The Northern Cricket League Review
Round 6 of the Northern Premier League threw up a shock with bottom club Penrith defeating leaders Kendal, Longridge won to go top of the league, there were also wins for Chorley, Fleetwood, Garstang and Netherfield
Blackpool v Chorley
Blackpool won the toss at Stanley Park and elected to bat first, They made 212-3 in their 50 overs, Shavim Chaudhary top scored with 72 (63 balls), Kasim Munir retired on 70no (127 balls) with Ali Munir 28 (77 balls).
Dylan Hebshall was the other wicket to fall for 2 (3 balls), Josh Boyne 20 (21 balls) and Jake Muncaster 16 (9 balls) were the not out batsmen
The Chorley bowling was Matt Dawson 2-52 from 8 overs, Will Moulton 1-36 off 15, James Dunn 0-33 from 8, Joshua Pistorius 0-36 off 9 and Ian Oakes 0-54 from 10
Will Moulton and Alfie Dobson opened for the visitors but with the score on 37 Will Moulton was caught by Jake Muncaster off Shavim Chaudhary for 11 (29 balls), 37-1, Roshen Silva came in at number three and the partnership with Alfie Dobson was approaching 50 when Alfie Dobson was caught by Josh Boyne off Alex Ryder for 43 (61 balls) 82-2
The new man in was Joshua Pistorius and with Silva kept the scorebaord tiicking over, Their partnership was broken by Josh Boyne having Pisorius lbw for 29 (57 balls), 133-3, Zayn Wadiwala joined Silva but Shivam Chaudhary had Roshen Silva caught by Ali Munir for 54 (74 balls), 167-4
The next batsman in was Alexnder Howarth to partner Wadilwala, the hosts needed wickets and Josh Boyne struck removing both batsmen, Zayn Wadiwala went first caught by Dylan Henshall for 23 (36 balls), 173 -5, fifteen runs later Alexander Howarth fell lbw for 13 (14 balls), 188-6
The two new batsmen were Edwin Moulton 12no (17 balls) and Andrew Holhsworth 14 no (13 balls) who saw the visitors home on 213-6 in 49.1 overs
For Blackpool Josh Boyne took 3-49 from 12.1 overs, Shavim Chaudhary 2-51 off 15, Alex Ryder 1-36 from 7, Ali Munir 0-14 off 3 and William Vause 0-55 from 12
Fleetwood v Fulwood & Broughton
Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at Broadwater and decided to bat first, Matthew Smith and Jon Fenton opened, Their partnership was quickly broken Jon Fenton bowled by Jeremy Davies for 0 (2 balls) 4-1
Number three for the visitors was Ben Parkinson and with Smith were scoring steadily until Matthew Smith was caught by Adam Sharrocks off Declan Clerkin for 12 (29 balls), 39-2. Simon Kerrigan was in next but was soon out caught behind by Harry McAleer off Tiaan Van Vuuren for 0 (6 balls) 44-3
Hareen Buddila joined Parkinson, their partnership was 20 when Buddila was caught behind by Harry McAleer off Declan Clerkin for 10 (26 balls,) 64-4, The new batsman was Ben Rosbottom and with Parkinson took the total past the hundred only for Parkinson to fall caught behind by Harry McAleer off Tiaan Van Vuuren for 65 (106 balls), 109-5
Muhammad Zaid became Rosbottom's partner and they were keeping the scoreboard ticking over until Jeremy Davies bowled Ben Rosbottom for 30 (69 balls), 142-6,
Tiaan Van Vuuren took four wickets with only six runs added to the total, firstly he had Muhammad Zaid caught by Charlie Clark for 16 (23 balls), 158-7, two balls later he bowled James Lupton for 0 (2 balls), 158-8.
James McWilliam was next out caught behind by Harry McAleer for 9 (16 balls) 161-9, Van Vuuren closed the innings on 164 all out in 49.3 overs having Dom Jackson caught by Andy Drake for 4 (16 balls) with Chris Brookes 1no (3 balls).
Tiaan Van Vuuren's figures were 6-45 off 14.3 overs, Declan Clerkin took 2-27 from 13, Jeremy Davies 2-41 off 9 and Rizwan Patel 0-38 from 13
Andy Drake and Jeremy Davies opened for the hosts and got them off to a good start, their partnership was broken by Jon Fenton having Jeremy Davies caught by Hareen Buddila for 30 (30 balls), 41-1, Harry McAleer was in at three but lost his partner Andy Drake caught behind by James McWilliam off Hareen Buddila for 12 (39 balls), 48-2
Tiaan Van Vuuren replaced Drake but soon became Hareen Buddila's second victim caught by Ben Parkinson for 4 (12 balls), 54-3. Charlie Clark joined McAleer and they took the hosts in sight of victory when Harry McAleer was caught behind by James McWilliam off Hareen Buddila for 30 (71 balls) 154-4
New batsman Declan Clerkin 9no (6 balls) and Charlie Clark 75no (96 balls) saw Fleetwood home on 168-4 in 42.2 overs
The Fulwood & Broughton bowling was Hareen Buddila 3-41 from 13.2 overs, Jon Fenton 1-26 off 6, Chris Brookes 0-14 from 3, Dom Jackson 0-15 off 3, James Lupton 0-15 from 2 and Simon Kerrigan 0-49 off 15
Kendal v Penrith
Penrith won the toss at Shap Road and invited the hosts to bat first, Freddie Fallows and Oliver Tyson opened and gave the hosts a good start taking the score to 52 when Fallows was caught by Jack White off James Bowman for 29 (30 balls) 52-1
The Kendal number three was Finlay Richardson who quickly became James Bowman's second victim caught by James Ellis for 2 (9 balls) 67-2, Rongsen Jonathan was next in but lost Oliver Tyson lbw to Harsha Vithana for 32 (25 balls), 83-3
Next in was Bradley Earl, Harsha Vithana claimed his second victim Rongsen Jonathan lbw for 9 (16 balls), 88-4. Sam Fletcher joined Bradley Earl and they saw the total passed the hundred, Harsha Vithana trapped Bradley Earl lbw for 8 (24 balls) 105-5
Four runs had been added to the score when the hosts lost two wickets, firstly new batsman Lewis Richardson was run out by Alister Craig for 0 (1 ball), 109-6, then Harsha Vithana claimed his fouth wicket Sam Fletcher lbw 15 (26 balls), 109-7
The two new batsmen Chris Miller and Toby Tyson knuckled down and kept the scoreboard ticking over until both men were out with the score on 148, Jack White bowled Chris Miller for 22 (24 balls), 148-8. Toby Tyson followed caught behind by Alister Craig off Harsha Vithana for 17 (32 balls), 148-9
The innings closed on 153 all out in 32.3 overs with Jack White having Kuldeep Singh lbw for 5 (5 balls), Matthew Park was 0no (3 balls).
Harsha Vithana's figures were 5-27 from 9 overs, James Bowman 2-26 off 6, Jack White 2-44 from 8.3, James Ellis 0-24 off 3 and greg Cameron 0-26 from 6
The visitors reply did not get off to a good start losing both openers cheaply to Toby Tyson, Ben Ellis went first bowled by Tyson for 0 (3 balls), 0-1, Ollie Greenwood followed caught by Chris Miller off Tyson for 2 (24 balls), 11-2
Harsha Vithana and James Bowman were the new batsmen, Toby Tyson claimed his third wicket bowling James Bowman for 1 (26 balls), 21-3. Greg Cameron joined Vithana and they steadily moved the score on until Harsha Vithana was caught by Toby Tyson off Kuldeep Singh for 30 (50 balls), 69-4
Greg Cameron's new partner was James Ellis and they took the score past the hundred, James Ellis fell caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Kuldeep Singh for 12 (33 balls), 119-5, Jack White was next in but lost Cameron bowled by Kuldeep Singh for 82 (91 balls) 138-6
Owen Jones 16no (9 balls) replaced Cameron and with Jack White 3no (15 balls) saw the visitors to victory on 154-6 in 41.4 overs.
For Kendal Toby Tyson took 3-32 from 12.4 overs, Kuldeep Singh 3-40 off 8, Matthew Park 0-8 from 3, Chris Miller 0-29 off 5 and Freddie Fallows 0-37 from 13
Leyland v Netherfield
Netherfield won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and chose to bat first, Josh Dixon and Ben Barrow opened and gave them a good start, the partnership was broken with Josh Dixon being run out by James Rounding for 17 (53 balls), 47-1
Reece Irving was the visitors number three, but on reaching 11 (35 balls) he to was run out by Zak Willox for 11 (35 balls), 68-2, Steven Fisher came in but four runs later lost Ben Barrow caught by Kurtis Watson off Andrew Jacques for 35 (8 balls), 72-3
The next batsman in was Aryan Varsani, Andrew Jacques claimed his second wicket that of Steven Fisher caught by James Rounding for 4 (14 balls), 85-4. Sagar Udeshi joined Varsani but was soon out lbw to Iain Critchley for 9 (16 balls), 110-5
Wiil Beeden was Varsani's next partner but with their partnership on 32 he was caught and bowled by Kurtis Watson for 13 (22 balls), 142-6.
The score was 169 and the visitors lost their last four wickets without addition, Ollie Wileman was run out by Andrew Makinson for 5 (11 balls), 169-7, enter the last over, Aryan Varsani is caught by Karl Cross off Kurtis Watson for 60 (72 balls), 169-8, Samuel Medhurst is caught behind by Adam Sexton off Kurtis Watson for 0 (1 ball) 169-9. two balls later Kurtis Watson bowls Matt Jackson for 0 (2 balls) 169 all out in 49.5 overs with Isaac Medhurst 0no (1 ball)
Kurtis Watson took 4-40 from 9.5 overs, Andrew Jacques 2-41 off 15, Iain Critchley 1-39 from 15 and Kerwin Mungroo 0-42 off 10
Jacob Wright and James Rounding gave the hosts a good start with an opening partnership of 46 broken by Samuel Medhurst having Jacob Wright caught behind by Will Beeden for 12 (27 balls), 46-1, number three for Leyland was Zak Willox and with Rounding had added twenty five runs when Rounding was bowled by Oli Wileman for 52 (48 balls), 71-2
The new batsman was Kurtis Watson who was quickly out stumped by Will Beeden off Sagar Udeshi for 2 (9 balls), 80-3. James Critchley joined Willox and they took the score passed the hundred only to see four wickets fall for eight runs.
Sagar Udeshi started the rot having James Critchley caught by Josh Dixon for 19 (21 balls), 104-4, he then had Karl Cross caught by Josh Dixon for 0 (5 balls), 104-5, Andrew Makinson joined Willox but saw Willox fall caught behind by Will Beeden off Samuel Medhurst for 22 (57 balls), 108-6.
Adam Sexton was in next but was run out by Ben Barrow for 2 (18 balls), 112-7, Iain Critchley was Makinson's new partner and they were edging the total higher until Samuel Medhurst turned the game in the visitors favour by getting them both out, Iain Critchley went first lbw for 15 (15 balls), 137-8, three runs later Makinson was also lbw for 13 (37 balls), 140-9
Kerwin Mungroo and Andrew Jacques fought to save the game but Matt Jackson broke the partnership having Kerwin Mungroo caught by Ben Barrow for 10 (35 balls) as Leyland were 158 all out in 47.4 overs with Andrew Jacques 8no (14 balls).
The Netherfield bowling was Samuel Medhurst 4-37 from 15 overs, Sagar Udeshi 3-25 off 15, Oli Wileman 1-29 from 6, Matt jackson 1-34 off 8.4 and Isaac Medhurst 0-30 off 3
Longridge v Exxleston (Chorley)
Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial Cricket gound and decided to bat first, James Whitehead and Joshua Mullin opened, Reece Thomas made early inroads to the hosts innings by taking two quick wickets, he bowled James Whitehead for 8 (7 balls), 8-1, then had Matthew De Villiers caught behind by Adam Norris for 0 (2 balls) 8-2
Zac Christie was next in and with Mullin began to rebuild the innings, Reece Thomas broke the partnership bowling Joshua Mullin for 29 (38 balls), 39-3. Luke Platt was the new batsman but lost his patner Zac Christie lbw to Cameron Smith for 17 (30 balls), 55-4
Zach Proctor joined Luke Platt and they took control of the match with a partnership of 115 broken by Nick Fowler who had Zach Proctor caught behind by Adam Norris for 58 (91 balls), 170-5
Tom Turner came in next and continued the run fest, The visitors had no further success and Longridge closed on 236-5 in their 50 overs with Luke Platt 85no (114 balls) and Tom Turner 36no (18 balls) (5x4, 1x6)
The bowling figures were Reece Thomas 3-78 from 13 overs, Cameron Smith 1-27 off 10, Nick Fowler 1-55 from 7, Nathan McDonnel 0-7 off 5, Thomas Wilkinson 0-30 from 8 and Thomas Foster 0-37 off 7
The Eccleston reply got off to a disastrous start with Jonathan Millward taking three wickets, he had Reece Thomas caught by James Whitehead for 0, 1-1, next Martyn James Brieley was bowled for 0 6-2, followed by Thomas Wilkinson caught by Matthew De Villiers for 0, 6-3
The new batsmen Thomas Foster and Matthew Ashcroft settled down to try and get back into the game but with the score on 32 Matthew Ashcroft became Jonathan Millward's fourth victim caught by Zach Proctor for 10 (32 balls), 32-4
Adam Norris joined Foster but lost his partner caught behind by Tom Turner off Caleb Bradford for 30 (64 balls) 46-5, Nathan McDonnell was the new batsman but on reaching 12 ( 9 balls) he was out caught by Matthew De Villiers off Matt Greenall, 59-6
Caleb Bradford accounted for Joran Bentham caught by Luke Platt for 2 (13 balls) 62-7.
David Hewson joined Adam Norris but became Jonathan Millward's fifth wicket caught by Tom Howarth for 16 (24 balls), 83-8. Adam Norris had battled away but it he was next out bowled by Caleb Bradford for 21 (65 balls), 95-9
The Eccleston (Chorley) innings closed on 108 all out in 41.5 overs when Nick Fowler was caught behind by Tom Turner off Matthew De Villiers for 0 (20 balls) with Cameron Smith 9no ( 9 balls).
Jonathan Millward took 5-26 from 14 overs, Caleb Bradford 3-41 off 15, Matthew De Villiers 1-0 from 0.5, Matt Greenall 1-21 off 10 and Tom Howarth 0-13 from 2.
St Annes v Garstang
Garstang won the toss at Vernon Road and elected to bat first, Michael Walling and Joseph Pearson opened and were going well until the introduction of Curtis Fleming who bowled Joseph Pearson for 31 ( 49 balls), 56-1, New man Tom Wells quickly followed bowled by Fleming for 0 (10 balls), 60-2
Mark Walling was the new batsman but was soon out caught behind by James Bradley of Yohan De Silva for 2 (12 balls), 67-3, Hugo Croft joined Michael Walling and they took the score past the hundred, Yohan De Silva struck bowling Hugo Croft for 13 (22 balls),110-4
Ashton Charles was Walling's next partner and their partnership was 71 broken by Tom Higson bowling Michael Walling for 89 (116 balls), 181-5, Tom Higson claimed his second wicket bowling new batsman Danny Gilbert for 1 (4 balls), 187-6
Ian Walling was in next but was caught by Luke Jardine off Mitch Bolus for 11 (8 balls), 203-8, Mitch Bolus then bowled Ashton Charles for 49 (57 balls), 204-8. Yohan De Silva claimed the last two wickets, Joel Anthony Derham caught by Nathan Armstrong for 7 (8 balls), 222-9, He then had Waris Khan caught by Curtis Fletcher for 10 (11 balls) as Garstang were 225 all out in 49.4 overs with Samuel Hayward 1no (1 ball).
Yohan De Silva was St Annes leading wicket taker with 4 from 13.4 overs supported by Curtis Fletcher 2-32 off 8, Mitch Bolus 2-48 from 11, Tom Higson 2-57 off 13 and Keith Reid 0-12 from 4
Tom Higson and Yohan De Silva opened for the hosts and were going along nicely until one over from Waris Khan changed things, He had Tom Higson caught by Joseph Pearson for 30 (22 balls), 34-1, next ball he trapped Luke Jardine lbw for 0 (1 ball), 34-2, he claimed his hat-trick by having Nathan Bolus caught by Mark Walling first ball for 0, 34-3.
Nathan Armstrong was in next but was out caught by Mark Walling off Joel Anthony Derham for 10 (16 balls), 53-4. The St Annes innings went from bad to worse with Danny Gilbert claiming three wickets on the same score, Yohan De Silva was caught behind by Samuel Hayward for 11 (26 balls), 55-5, he bowled Alex Urquhart first ball for 0, 55-6 and finally having Mitch Bolus caught by Michael Walling for 0 (5 balls), 55-7
James Bradley had watched the collapse at the other end and was joined by Ryan Birkman who was not going down without a fight but was stumped by Samuel Hayward off Joel Anthony Derham for 23 (12 balls), (3x4, 1x6), 84-8
Curtis Fletcher was Bradley's next partner and their partnership was 40 broken by Ian Walling bowling Curtis Fletcher for 20 (34 balls), 124-9. the tail end fight back ended with James Bradley lbw to Michael Walling for 37 (92 balls) as St Annes were 165 all out in 40.4 overs with Keith Reid 30 no (34 balls)(6x4)
For Garstang Danny Gilbert took 3-21 from 8, Waris Khan 3-43 off 8 (Hat-trick), Joel Anthony Derham 2-54 from 14, Michael Walling 1-4 off 2.4 and Ian Walling 1-40 from 8
