The second round of matches in Northern Premier League 2023 season saw newcomers to the League Eccleston (Chorley) lose to St Annes in their first completed match.
There were also wins for Chorley, Fulwood & Broughton, Garstang, Kendal and Longridge
DIVISION ONE:
Eccleston (Chorley) v St Annes
Today is the day when Eccleston begin their journey in the Northern Premier Cricket League, Their oppents are St Annes at Doctors Lane.
The hosts won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first. Tom Higson and Yohan De Silva opened with a partnership of 25 when Tom Higson was caught by Iain Bradley off Cameron Smith for 14 (31 balls), 25-1.
Coming in at number three was Lukman Vahaluwala but on reaching 3 (11 balls) he was bowled by Reece Thomas, 30-2, Luke Jardine was next in and with De Silva were keeping the scoreboard ticking over.
Disaster struck for the visitors with the score on 74, both batsmen were out, Luke Jardine went first bowled by Nick Fowler for 23 (32 balls) 74-2, followed by Yohan De Silva caught and bowled by Thomas Foster for 34 (80 balls) 74-4
Nathan Bolus and Nathan Armstrong were the new batsmen but with only 9 runs added Nathan Armstrong was bowled by Nick Fowler for 6 (16 balls) 83-5, Gurman Bains was in next but with the core on 100 he lost Nathan Bolus caught by Nick Fowler off Nathan McDonnel for 11 (31 balls) 100-6
Harry Birkman joined Gurman Bains and they were approaching the fifty partnership when Reece Thomas bowled Harry Birkman for 26 (38 balls), 146-7. Mitch Bolus replaced Birkman but was soon out caught by Thomas Wilkinson off Thomas Foster for 1 (6 balls) 150-8
James Bradley 2no (3 balls) was next in and with Gurman Bains 30no (54 balls) saw the visitors close on 154-8 in their 50 overs
For Eccleston (Chorley) Nick Fowler took 2-20 from 8 overs, Thomas Foster 2-33 off 12, Reece Thomas 2-46 from 11.5, Cameron Smith 1-7 off 7, Nathan McDonnell 1-20 from 5.1 and Thomas Wilkinson 0-27 off 6
Thomas Wilkinson and Martyn James Brierley opened, Harry Birkman broke the partnership bowling Thomas Wilkinson for 7 (15 balls) 10-1, David Hewson was in at three but lost his partner Martyn James Brieley bowled by Lukman Vahaluwala for 5 (26 balls) 12-2
Thomas Foster was next but with only eight runs added Harry Birkman claimed his second victim bowling David Hewson for 4 (22 balls) 20-3, things did not improve for the hosts with new batsman Adam Norris bowled by Mitch Bolus for 0 (22 balls) 27-4
Nathan McDonnell replaced Norris but soon became Mitch Bolus's second wicket being bowled for 8 (22 balls) 47-5, Reece Thomas joined Thomas Foster but with only sixteen runs added Harry Birkman struck having Reece Thomas caught by Luke Jardine for 11 (15 balls) 63-6
Jordan Bentham became Thomas Foster's next partner, but any hope of a positive outcome dissappeared when Harry Birkman bowled Thomas Foster for 30 (83 balls) 73-7, new batsman Iain Bradley became Harry Birkmans fifth victim bowled for 3 (10 balls), 91-8
Coming in at number 10 was Nick Fowler, Jordan Bentham had been fighting a rearguard action but was next out bowled by Yohan De Silva for 30 (39 balls) 107-9, Harry Birkman closed the hosts innings on 108 all out in 44.5 overs by bowling Cameron Smith for 0 (6 balls). Nick Fowler was undefeated on 6 (9 balls)
Harry Birkman lead the St Annes attack with 6-36 from 13.5 overs supported by Mitch Bolus 2-20 off 7, Yohan De Silva 1-11 from 3, Lukman Vahaluwala 1-21 off 12 and Tom Higson 0-18 from 9
Fleetwood v Garstang
Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater and put the visitors into bat, Ashton Charles and Michael Walling opened for Garstang but were soon one down, Ashton Charles bowled by Jeremy Davies for 1 (6 balls) 1-1
The number three batsman was Mark Walling who was Jeremy Davies's second victim lbw for 2 (9 balls) 3-2, Ryan Pearson was next in and had made nine (20 balls) when he was trapped lbw by Tiaan Van Vuuran, 17-3
Matthew Crowther joined Michael Walling and they set about rebuilding the Garstang innings, their partnership was broken by Declan Clerkin having Matthew Crowther caught by Adam Sharrocks for 15 (52 balls) 85-4
No further runs had been added when disaster struck for the visitors with Michael Walling the foundation of the innings so far, out caught behind by Harry McAleer off Rizwan Patel for 49 ((91 balls), 85-5
The two new batsmen were Tom Wells and Hugo Croft, Declan Clerkin claimed his second wicket having Hugo Croft caught by Rizwan Patel for 0 (8 balls) 87-6.
Danny Gilbert came to the wicket and with only five runs added the visitors lost three wickets on the same score, first to go was Tom Wells caught and bowled by Declan Clerkin for 5 (15 balls) 92-7, next new batsman Ian Walling bowled by Declan Clerkin for 0 (6 balls) 92-8
Declan Clerkin claimed the third wicket and his fifth trapping Joel Anthony Derham lbw for 0 (2 balls) 92-9, Waris Khan was Danny Gilbert's next partner, the innings came to a close on 108 all out in 40.4 overs with Danny Gilbert lbw to Tiaan Van Vuuran for 8 (23 balls), Waris Khan was 4no (13 balls)
For Fleetwood Declan Clerkin took 5-25 from 14 overs, Jeremy Davies 2-18 off 6, Tiaan Van Vuuran 2-23 from 10.4 and Rizwan Patel 1-31 off 10
Andy Drake and Harry McAleer opened and with the total on 15 Ian Walling struck bowling Harry McAleer for 4 (10 balls) 15-1, he then had new batsman Declan Clerkin lbw for 2 (3 balls) 21-2.
Tiaan Van Vuuran joined Andy Drake but on 39 the host's followed the vistitors in losing three wickets without addition, Tiaaan Van Vuuran was the first to go bowled by Ian Walling for 12 (28 balls) 39-3, Andy Drake was next lbw to Danny Gilbert for 16 (56 balls), Adam Sharrocks completed the trio once agan lbw to Danny Gilbert for 0 (5 balls) 39-5
Charlie Clark and Jeremy Davies began the rebuild, Joel Anthony Derham took two wickets in two balls to swing the game in the visitors favour, he had Charlie Clark stumped by Matthew Crowther for 7 (43 balls) 68-6, next ball he bowled Nathan Bend for 0 (1 ball) 68-7
William Haddow was in next but was quickly out caught by Mark Walling off Danny Gilbert for 0 (5 balls) 73-8, Joel Anthony Derham claimed the last two wickets, Joshua Heaney lbw for 6 (2 balls) 86-9, he then bowled the battling Jermey Davies 26 as Fleetwood were 92 all out in 38 overs. Rizwan Patel was 4no.

Fulwood & Broughton v Penrith
The hosts won the the toss at the Highfield ground and invited the visitors to bat first, The Penrith start to the match was disastrous with two run outs in the first three overs, Ollie Greenwood and Alister Craig opened, Craig was run out by Richard Turner without facing for 0, 5-1
New batsmen Harsha Vithana was run out by Lewis Wellings on the second run for 1 (1 ball) 6-2, Greg Cameron joined Ollie Greenwood only to see Jon Fenton bowl Greenwood for 4 (18 balls), 7-3, new man James Bowman quickly followed bowled by Chris Brookes for 1 (12 balls) 12-4
Things did not improve for the visitors Owen Jones fell lbw to Jon Fenton for 5 (3 balls) 17-5,Dan Jones was next in but became Chris Brookes's second victim bowled for 0 (17 balls) 24-6.
The visitors innings had been a disaster and it was compounded by losing three wickets with the score on 39, Greg Cameron had battled but was next out caught by Muhammad Zaid off James Lupton's last ball of the over for 22 (44 balls) 39-7,
The next over was bowled by Hareen Buddila who took two wickets with his first two balls, he bowled James Ellis for 1 (10 balls) 39-8 then had Jamie OBrien caught by Ben Parkinson for 0 (1 ball) 39-9
Hareen Buddila claimed his third wicket having Dylan Simpsom caught behind by James McWilliam for 1 (5 balls) as Penrith were bowled out for 44 in 19.1 overs, Finlay Hansford was 6no (6 balls)
The Fulwood & Broughton wicket takers were Hareen Buddila 3-5 from 2.1 overs, Jon Fenton 2-9 off 6, Chris Brookes 2-14 from 7 and James Lupton 1-15 off 4
The hosts reply got off to a shaky start losing Jon Fenton bowled by James Ellis for 3 (13 balls) 15-1, James Ellis then had number three Hareen Buddila caught by Finlay Hansford for 0 (7 balls) 17-2
That was the last success for the visitors as Richard Turner 25no (41 balls) and Muhammad Zaid 7no (14 balls) saw the hosts home on 46-2 in 12.3 overs
James Ellis took 2-13 from 5 overs with Greg Cameron 0-13 off 6.3 and Finlay Hansford 0-10 from 1
Leyland v Kendal
Kendal won the toss at the Stanning Memorial Ground and asked the hosts to bat first, Leyland were bowled out for 121 in 49.5 overs.
Andrew Makinson top scored with 31 (50 balls) with support from Kurtis Watson 26 (43 balls), Karl Cross 18 (55 balls) Zac Willox 16 (39 balls) and Jacob Wright 12 (33 balls)
The wickets were shared amongst the Kendal bowlers, Toby Tyson took 3-15 from 10.5 overs, Kuldeep Singh 2-18 off 11, Matthew Park 2-34 from 15, Chris Miller 1-25 off 8 and Freddie Fallows 1-27 from 5
In reply Kendal knocked off the runs in 28.4 overs closing on 124-5, Rongsen Jonathan guided the vistiors home with 39no (65 balls) ably assisted by Finlay Richardson 33 (48 balls) Lewis Richardon 22no (13 balls) and Freddie Fallows 20 (29 balls)
For Leyland Kurtis Watson took 4-43 from 10 overs, Iain Critchley 1-20 off 3.4, Andrew Jacques 0-24 from 7 and Kerwin Mungroo 0-37 off 8

Longridge v Blackpool
Blackpool won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and invited the hosts to bat first, Longridge made 129-8 in their 50 overs.
Luke Platt was their top scorer with 39 (96 balls), Joshua Mullin made 38 (106 balls) with Matthew De Villiers 15 (30 balls) and Tom Howarth 12 (14 balls)
For Blackpool William Vause took 3-45 from10 overs, Arran Lewin 2-17 off 5, Matthew Grindley 2-22 from 14, Shivam Chaudhary 1-25 off 15 and Jamie Thomsob 0-19 from 6
In reply Blackpool were bowled out seven runs short of victory for 122 in 40.2 overs, Tomas King lead the way making 43 (47 balls)
The middle order Dylan Hanshall 23 (25 balls), Stan Howarth 16 (20 balls), Matthew Gridley 15 (39 balls) an Arran Lewin 11 (53 balls) fought for the win but fell just short
The Longridge bowlers who did the damage were Matthew De Villiers 4-29 from 8.2 overs and Caleb Bradford 4-35 off 12 ably supported by Matt Greenll 2-11 from 9 with Zach Proctor 0-12 off 5 and Jonathan Millward 0-26 off 6

Netherfield v Chorley
Netherfield won the toss at Parkside Road and put the visitors into bat, Will Moulton and Alfie Dobson opened with a partnership of 21, Alfie Dobson was first out bowled by Isaac Medhurst for 9 (31 balls) 21-1
Roshen Silva came in at three and with Moulton were begining to look dangerous, Sagar Udeshi broke the partnership having Roshen Silva caught by Isaac Medhurst for 25 (57 balls) 83-2.
The batsman in next was Joshua Pistorius, the score was on 97 when the visitors lost two wickets without addition, Will Moulton was caught by Louis Backhouse off Oli Wileman for 49 (87 balls) 97-3
Harry Barclay replaced Moulton and was trapped lbw by Sagar Udeshi for 0 (6 balls) 97-4. Sagar Udeshi accounted for the new batsman Alexander Howarth having him caught and bowled for 7 (12 balls) 113-5
Edwin Moulton joined Joshua Pistorius and they were taking control on the match until Joshua Pistorius was caught by Lee Hogg off Louis Backhouse for 67 (74 balls) 183-6.
James Dunn came to the wicket with seven balls of the innings remaining and was run out on the last ball of the innings for 4 (4 balls) as Chorley closed on 191-7 in their 50 overs with Edwin Moulton 21no (29 balls)
For Netherfield Sagar Udeshi took 3-40 from 15 overs, Isaac Medhurst 1-24 off 7, Oli Wileman 1-36 from 7, Louis Backhouse 1-49 off 14 and Matt Jackson 0-34 from 7.
In reply Netherfield were bowled out for 152 in 41.5 overs, Aryan Varsani top scored with 52 (40 balls), 6 players made double figures but none made twenty or over, Steven Fisher 18 (39 balls), Josh Dixon 16 (37 balls), Will Beeden 15 (28 balls), Sagar Udeshi 14 (22 balls), Lee Hogg 14 (22 balls) and Louis Backhouse 10no (11 balls)
For Chorley Edwin Moulton took 4-22 from 10 overs, Joshua Pistorius 4-26 off 9.5, Ian Oakes 2-12 from 4, Will Moulton 0-20 off 4, James Dunn 0-34 from 4 and Matt Dawson 0-37 off 10
