The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 20 of the Northern Premier League saw wins for the top four with the Championship down to three Chorley, Kendal and Garstang.

There were also wins for Blackpool over and Fleetwood.

Eccleston (Chorley) v Garstang

Eccleston (Chorley) won the toss at Doctors Lane and invited the visitors to bat first, Michael Walling and Luke Smith opened with a stand of 40 broken by Adam Norris stumping Luke Smith off Cameron Smith for 26 (16 balls), 40-1

Matthew Crowther came in at number three and had to work for his runs, he was bowled by Nick Fowler for 9 (46 balls), 65-2, Nick Fowler also accounted for new batsman Mark Walling caught by Jack McKenna for 2 (10 balls), 67-3

Joseph Pearson joined Michael Walling and they took control with a partnership of 121, Thomas Foster was the man to make the breakthrough having Joseph Pearson caught by Alex Brooks for 49 (63 balls), 188-4, as often happens in big stands once one partner goes the other quickly follows, Michael Walling went bowled by Thomas Foster for 99 (150 balls), 195-5.

Hugo Croft 9no (9 balls) and Ian Walling 5no (6 balls) saw the visitors close on 204-5 in their 50 overs.

The Eccleston bowling was Nick Fowler 2-15 from 11 overs, Thomas Foster 2-48 off 9, Cameron Smith 1-43 from 11, Jack McKenna 0-19 off 3, Reece Thomas 0-22 from 6, Rhys Simms 0-26 off 4 and Thomas Wilkinson 0-27 from 6

Michael Atkinson and Martyn James Brierley opened but were soon parted, Danny Gilbert bowled Martyn James Brierley for 0 (11 balls), 5-1, Ian Walling with his first ball of the next over trapped Michael Atkinson lbw for 3 (13 balls), 5-2

The two new batsmen were Nick Fowler and Thomas Foster, they were both out with the total on 15, Danny Gilbert bowled Nick Fowler for 2 (14 balls), 15-3, Ian Walling had Thomas Foster caught by Mark Walling for 6 (12 balls), 15-4.

Danny Gilbert then took over demolishing the hosts batting, Reece Thomas was caught behind by Matthew Crowther for 0 (4 balls), 19-5, he then caught and bowled Thomas Wilkinson for 5 (6 balls) 20-6, wicket number five was Alex Brooks lbw for 0 (4 balls), 21-7

Adam Norris was Danny Gilbert's next victim lbw for 1 (12 balls), 30-8, two runs later he wrapped up the Eccleston (Chorley)s innings bowling Cameron Smith for 4 (9 balls), 33-9. then wicket number eight bowling Jack McKenna for 0 (2 balls) as Eccleston (Chorley) were 33 all out in 15.3 overs. Rhys Simms was 3no (8 balls).

Danny Gilbert had the remarkable figures of 7.3 overs, 3 maidens 6 runs and 8 wickets with Ian Walling taking 2-20 off 8

Fleetwood v St Annes

St Annes won the toss at Broadwater and put the hosts into bat, Andy Drake and Jeremy Davies opened, Tom Higson made the breakthrough bowling Andy Drake for 0 (10 balls), 2-1, Cian Dickinson was the Fleetwood number three and with Jeremy Davies were looking good.

Nathan Bolus was introduced into the attack and with the first ball of his second over had Cian Dickinson caught behind by James Bradley for 57 (72 balls), 90-2. Jeremy Davies followed without addition to the score caught behind by James Bradley off Yohan De Silva for 29 (81 (balls), 90-3. Charlie Clark and Harry McAleer were the new batsmen, the score was on Nelson (111) when Charlie Clark was bowled by Alec McGoughlin for 12 (31 balls), 111-3

Declan Clerkin was the incoming batsman but with ten runs added Nathan Bolus trapped Harry McAleer lbw for 11 (25 balls), 121-5. Adam Sharrocks joined Clerkin, wicket number three for Nathan Bolus came with Declan Clerkin caught by Harry Birkman for 8 (23 balls), 126-6

William Haddow was next in and became victim number four for Nathan Bolus bowled for 2 (14 balls), 128-7. Will Reader replaced Haddow and lost Adam Sharrocks caught behind by James Bradley off Alec McGloughlin for 0 (5 balls), 128-8.

Number ten was Rizwan Patel who was run out by Nathan Armstrong for 1 (9 balls), 136-9. Tom Higson closed the Fleetwood innings on 138 all out in 48 overs by having Will Reader lbw for 6 (8 balls), Jack Wilkinson was 2no (10 balls).

For St Annes Nathan Bolus took 4-21 from 12 overs, Alec McGloughlin 2-17 off 14, Tom Higson 2-26 from 8, Yohan De Silva 1-37 off 8 and Rory Urquhart 0-16 from 6

Yohan De Silva and Luke Jardin opened for the visitors and like the hosts lost an early wicket, Yohan De Silva lbw to Jeremy Davies for 0 (7 balls), 1-1, Number three was Nathan Bolus who soon became wicket number two for Jeremy Davies bowled for 4 (18 balls), 11-2

New man in was Tom Higson but on reaching 12 (22 balls) he fell lbw to Declan Clerkin, 32-3, Nathan Armstrong joined Luke Jardine and they steadily kept the scoreboard ticking over until Cian Dickinson had Luke Jardine caught by Will Reader for 14 (60 balls), 51-4.

Rizwan Patel removed the new batsman Alec McGloughlin caught by Will Reader for 1 (4 balls), 54-5. St Annes were in trouble and things did not get any better with Harry Birkman out lbw to Cian Dickinson for 0 (9 balls), 62-7. Cian Dickinson claimed two wickets in three balls his first victim James Bradley caught behind by Harry McAleer for 2 (15 (balls), 65-8 his second being Alex Urquhart bowled for 0 (2 balls), 65-9

The St Annes innings closed on 67 all out in 34.3 overs with Ryan Birkman caught by Jeremy Davies off Declan Clerkin for 1 (21 balls) with Rory Urquhart 2no (3 balls).

Cian Dickinson was the Fleetwood leading wicket taker with 4-18 from 9 overs supported by Rizwan Patel 2-13 off 8, Jeremy Davies 2-17 from 9 and Declan Clerkin 2017 off 8.3

Fulwood & Broughton v Blackpool

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield gound and asked the visitors to bat first, Tomas King and Kasim Munir opened and took the score to 29 when Tomas King was caught by Muhammad Zaid off Khalil Patel for 24 (26 balls), 29-1

Shivam Chaudhary came in at three and with Munir took the score past the 50 mark, Jon Fenton broke the partnership with Kasim Munir caught by Muhammad Zaid for 7 (31 balls), 54-2. Josh Boyne was next in but was out quickly bowled by Jon Fenton for 0 (4 balls), 59-3

Dylan Henshall was next in, Hareen Buddila had him lbw for 9 (7 balls), 68-4, this brought Jake Muncaster to the wicket. Jon Fenton claimed the prize wicket of Shivam Chaudhary caught behind by James McWilliam for 27 (32 balls), 74-5. Ben Howarth was next in, both fell to Hareen Buddila, Jake Muncaster caught behind by James McWilliam for 5 (14 balls),80-6, quickly followed by Ben Howarth caught by Lewis Wellings for 0 (23 balls), 81-7

The new batsmen Matthew Grindley and William Vause dug in and battled to rebuild the innnings, they took the score past the hundred when Matthew Smith ran out Matthew Grindley for 9 (34 balls), 101-8, Paul Danson came in next and continued the progress, Hareen Buddila bowled him on 7 (18 balls), 125-9.

The Blackpool innings closed on 146 all out in 45.5 overs with James Lupton bowling William Vause for 46 (69 balls) with Jamie Thomson 4no (17 balls).

The Fulwood & Broughton bowling figures were Hareen Buddila 4-33 from 15 overs, Jon Fenton 3-41 off 11, James Lupton 1-6 from 0.5, Khalil Patel 1-34 off 11, Lewis Wellings 0-10 from 7 and Dom Jackson 0-16 off 1

Matthew Smith and Jon Fenton opened for the hosts but were soon parted, Jamie Thomson bowling Matthew Smith for 3 (25 balls), 11-1. Number three was Ben Rosbottom who lost his partner Jon Fenton caught by Dylan Henshall off Matthew Grindley for 6 (19 balls), 17-2.

Hareen Buddila was in next and with Rosbottom took the score past the 50 only for Jamie Thomson to bowl Hareen Buddila for 12 (27 balls), 51-3. James McWilliam joined Rosbottom and they continued the fight, Jamie Thomson to the fore once more breaking the partnership by having Ben Rosbottom caught by Dylan Henshall for 29 (84 balls), 72-4

Muhammad Zaid was the new batsman and was scoring at a run a ball until he was caught by William Vause off Shavim Chaudhary for 19 (17 balls), 97-5. Lewis Wellings came in and with only four runs added Matthew Grindley struck with two wickets in two balls, Lewis Wellings was caught by Jamie Thomson for 4 (13 balls),101-6. next ball Ben Parkinson was lbw for 0, 101-7

James McWilliam was running out of partners, his next partner James Lupton was bowled by Jamie Thomson for 0 (7 balls), 108-8. Khalil Patel replaced Lupton but was bowled by Shivam Chaudhary for 1 (6 balls), 121-9.

The end came in Chaudhary's next over James Mc William's fighting innings ended caught by Kasim Munir for 36 (59 balls) as Fulwood & Broughton were bowled out for 126 in 43.2 overs with Dom Jackson 2no (4 balls).

Jamie Thomson lead the way for the visitors woth 4-37 from 15 overs, Shavim Chaudhary 3-34 off 12.2, Matthew Grindley 3-39 from 14 and William Vause 0-4 off 2

Leyland v Chorley

Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and chose to bat first, Zak Willox and Karl Cross were the openers and were going well until Alfie Dobson ran out Karl Cross for 22 (45 balls), 55-1, Geeth Kumara came in at three but lost his partner Zak Willox bowled by Sam Steeple for 27 (73 balls), 61-2

Jacob Wright replaced Willox and with Kumara found runs hard to come by, Sam Steeple claimed both their wickets, Jacob Wright bowled for 8 (38 balls), 89-3, one run later Kumara was caught by Edwin Moulton for 19 (44 balls), 90-4.

Andrew Makinson and James Critchley were the new batsmen and also found it hard to score quickly, Sam Steeple claimed his fourth wicket James Critchley stumped by Harry Barclay for 2 (21 balls), 108-5. James Rounding was in next but on 6 (22 balls) was bowled by Ben Milnes 113-6.

Iain Critchley joined Andrew Makinson, Edwin Moulton struck having Andrew Makinson caught by Roshen Silva for 22 (40 balls), 128-7, without any addition to the score Iain Critchley was caught by Edwin Moulton off Ben Milnes for 5 (12 balls), 128-8

Andrew Sexton 3no (6 balls) and Andrew Jacques 6no (6 balls) saw the hosts close on 138-8 in their 50 overs.

The Chorley bowling figures were Sam Steeple 4-32 from 15 overs, Ben Milnes 2-23 off 7, Edwin Moluton 1-18 from 5, Will Moulton 0-11 off 6, James Dunn 0-21 from 5 and Joshua Pistorius 0-23 off 12

Will Moulton and Alfie Dobson opened for the leaders and took the score past the 50 when both were out, Will Moulton went first caught by James Critchley off Geeth Kumara for 24 (39 balls), 52-1, Alfie Dobson followed bowled by Iain Critchley for 28 (47 balls), 52-2

That was the only success for the hosts as Joshua Pistorius 63no (87 balls) and Roshen Silva 21no (75 balls) saw the visitors to victory on 141-2 in 41.2 overs

The Leyland bowling was Iain Critchley 1-35 from 14 overs, Geeth Kumara 1-35 off 12, Joe Shackleton 0-15 from 1.2, James Critchley 0-18 off 4 and Andrew Jacques 0-34 off 10.

Longridge v Penrith

Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and elected to bat first, Joshua Mullin and Tom Howarth opened, Tom Howarth was the first to go run out by Alister Craig for 1 (9 balls), 15-1.

The Longridge number three was Matthew De Villiers and with Mullin were going along quite nicely until both were out on the same score, Joshua Mullin was caught by James Ellis for 22 (22 balls), 47-2, Matthew De Villiers was lbw to James Ellis for 10 (16 balls), 47-3.

Zac Christie and Luke Platt were the new batsmen and kept the score moving along, James Bowman broke the partnership having Zac Christie lbw for 16 (22 balls), 73-4, next in was Zach Proctor who became James Bowman's second wicket caught by Harsha Vithana for 5 (23 balls), 80-5

Tom Turner came to the wicket and was the next man out bowled by Harsha Vithana for 7 (17 balls), 99-6. James Whitehead joined Luke Platt and they began to build a good score, James Ellis made the breakthrough Luke Platt caught by Finlay Hansford for 31 (96 balls), 128-7.

Jake Durnell was Whitehead's new partner and they kept the momentum going until in the last over of the innings Jake Durnell was caught and bowled by Harsha Vithana for 22 (19 balls), 179-8. Jonathan Millward came to the wicket and took a run off his first ball, James Whitehead facing then hit twelve runs off the remainging three balls finishing on 54no (77 balls) as Longridge closed their innings on 192-8 in their 50 overs with Jonathan Millward 1no (1 ball).

For Penrith James Bowman took 2-38 from 15 overs, Harsha Vithana 2-47 off 14, James Ellis 2-59 from 15 and Dylan Simpson 1-43 off 6.

Ollie Greenwood and Owen Jones were the Penrith openers, Jonathan Millward made the early breakthrough bowling Owen Jones for 4 (13 balls), 16-1, Harsha Vithana was in at three and with Greenwood were begining to build a score, the introduction of Jake Durnell into the attack had immediate results taking a wicket in his first over, Ollie Greenwood stumped by Tom Turner for 11 (51 balls), 43-2.

James Bowman was the new batsman and with Vithana continued to move the score along. Zach Proctor broke the partnership having James Bowman caught behind by Tom Turner for 7 (29 balls), 92-3.

Alister Craig joined Vithana, disaster struck for the visitors losing four wickets for five runs, Alister Craig was lbw to Matthew De Villiers for 8 (36 balls), 121-4, next in Nicky Burns was lbw to Jake Durnell for 1 (7 balls), 122-5. Jake Durnell bowled Dan Jones for 0 (8 balls) 125-6 and lastly Matthew De Villiers bowled James Ellis for 0 (4 balls), 126-7

Harsha Vithana was trying to hold the innings together and shield his partners, Matthew De Villiers broke the partnership between Vithana and Dylan Simpson bowling Dylan Simpson for 4 (16 balls), 150-8, Penrith's last chance went with the loss of Harsha Vithana lbw to Jacob Proctor for 106 (113 balls), 156-9

The Penrith innings closed on 157 all out in 47.2 overs with Finlay Hansford bowled by Jacob Proctor for 0 (13 balls) with Andrei Carp 1no (8 balls).

All the Longridge bowlers took a wicket, Jake Durnell took 3-39 from 15 overs, Matthew De Villiers 3-42 off 14, Jacob Proctor 2-40 from 9.2, Jonathan Millward 1-12 off 6 and Zach Proctor 1-17 from 3

Netherfield v Kendal

Netherfield won the toss at Parkside Road in the Kendal derby and chose to bat first, Josh Dixon and Theo Gallagher opened, Kuldeep Singh with his first ball had Theo Gallagher caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 0 (1 ball), 0-1

Aryan Varsani came in at three but soon lost his partner Josh Dixon as per Theo Gallagher caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Kuldeep Singh for 0 (11 balls), 12-2, Ben Barrow was next in and with Varsani began rebuilding the innings, Aryan Varsani was scoring at nearly a run a ball but on 39 (42 balls) he was caught by Max Winskill off Louis Backhouse, 54-3.

John Huck joined Ben Barrow but with the total on 79 both men were out, Ben Barrow was caught and bowled by Chris Miller for 31 (62 balls), 79-4, John Huck followed caught by Chris Miller off Freddie Falllows for 6 (26 balls), 79-5.

Isaac Medhurst and Will Beeden were the new batsmen and they dug in and had to fight for their runs, Kuldeep Singh broke their partnership having Will Beeden caught by Rongsen Jonathan for 19 (63 balls), 110-6. Oli Wileman came in next and took the score to 130 when Isaac Medhurst was caught by Lewis Richardson off Chris Miller for 15 (60 balls), 130-7

The Netherfield innings came to a dramatic end with Kuldeep Singh taking a Hat-Trick, his first victim was Oli Wileman caught by Louis Backhouse for 14 (19 balls), 132-8, next ball he had Bert Medhurst caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 0, he completed his Hat-Trick bowling Matt Jackson for 0 as Netherfield were bowled out for 132 in 47.4 overs. Sagar Udeshi was 2no (2 balls).

Kuldeep Singh's figures were 6-30 from 8.4 overs supported by Chris Miller 2-34 off 13, Freddie Fallows 1-18 from 15, Louis Backhouse 1-22 off 5 and Toby Tyson 0-24 from 6.

Kendal openers Freddie Fallows and Oliver Tyson were soon parted with Freddie Fallows caught and bowled by Matt Jackson for 5 (16 balls), 11-1. Max Winskill was Kendal's number three and saw two wickets fall on 15, Oliver Tyson was caught behind by Will Beeden off Sagar Udeshi for 10 (17 balls), New batsman Rongsen Jonathan fell caught by Ben Barrow off Sagar Udeshi for 0 (6 balls), 15-3.

The hosts innings went from bad to worse with only two runs added two further wickets fell, Max Winskill was caught by Ben Barrow off Matt Jackson for 2 (17 balls), 17-4. next man in Bradley Earl was caught by Matt Jackson off Sagar Udeshi for 0 (5 balls), 17-5.

Kendal had lost their top order and their title hopes looked to be fading, Finlay Richardson and Lewis Richardson were the batsmen with the task to turn the game around, they worked hard to keep the scoreboard ticking over, their partnership was 30 when Lewis Richardson was caught by Josh Dixon off Oli Wileman for 14 (40 balls), 47-6.

Chris Miller replaced Lewis Richardson and continued the fight, Their partnership took the score past one hundred only for Isaac Medhurst to bowl Chris Miller for 17 (53 balls), 102-7. Toby Tyson was next in and with Finlay Richardson leading the way they turned what was near certain defeat to a magnificent victory as they closed on 133-7 in 48.1 overs. Finlay Richardson was 66no (102 balls) and his partner Toby Tyson 9no (34 balls).

The Netherfield bowling was Sagar Udeshi 3-32 from 15 overs, Matt Jackson 2-44 off 14.1, Oli Wileman 1-17 from 6 and Isaac Medhurst 1-31 off 13.
