The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 11 of the Northern Premier League and we are half way through the season.

Kendal win as rivals Chorley (losing draw v Leyland) and Longridge (winning draw v Penrith) drop points. There are were wins for Blackpool, Garstang and St Annes.

Blackpool v Fulwood & Broughton

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at Stanley Park and invited the hosts to bat first, Tomas King and Kasim Munir opened and got off to a quick start but lost Kasim Munir stumped by James McWilliam off Simon Kerrigan for 4 (18 balls), 23-1

Shivam Chaudhary came in at three and with King took the score past the fifty, the introduction of Hareen Buddila to the attack had quick results in his second over he bowled Tomas King for 36 (48 balls), 54-2, Josh Boyne was in next but soon became Buddila's second victim caught behind by James McWilliam for 1 (12 balls),64-3

Dylan Henshall joined Shavim Chaudhary and they had nearly doubled the score when Hareen Buddila struck bowling Dylan Henshall for 37 (36 balls), 127-4, Buddila removed next man in Jake Muncaster stumped by James McWilliam for 0 (12 balls) 129-5

Shavim Chaudhary was out next to the McWilliam/Buddila combination caught behind James McWilliam bowled Hareen Buddila for 46 (69 balls), 130-6. Ben Howarth and Matthew Grindley were the new batsmen and had talen the score to 140 when the wheels came off losing four wickets for three runs

Hareen Buddila claimed three of the four wickets, Matthew Grindley was the first to go caught by Ben Parkinson off Buddila for 3 (7 balls), 140-7, Ben Howarth was next caught by Dom Jackson off Buddila for 9 (18 balls),141-8

Izatullah Stankzai and William Vause were the new batsmen, Simon Kerrigan bowled William Vause for 0 (4 balls) 142-9, Hareen Buddila claimed his eighth wicket and closed the Blackpool innings having Jamie Thomson caught by Ben Parkinson for 1 (3 balls), 143 all out in 39.1 overs

Hareen Buddila's figures were 8-37 from 13.1 overs with Simon Kerrigan 2-40 off 12, Dom Jackson 0-8 from 4, Khalil Patel 0-24 off 6 and James Lupton 0-31 from 4

Ewen Mansford and James McWilliam opened for the visitors but were soon parted Matthew Grindley had James McWilliam caught by Dylan Henshall for 9 (13 balls), 12-1, number three Ben Parkinson quickly became Grindley's next victim caught by Shivam Chaudhary for 0 (7 balls), 12-2

Matthew Grindley took his third wicket bowling Simon Kerrigan for 0 (3 balls), 16-3, Hareen Buddila was the next batsman but went the way off his previous colleagues caught behind by Ben Howarth bowled by Matthew Grindley for 4 (17 balls), 23-4

Ewen Mansford was out next to give Grindley his fifth wicket caught by Shivam Chaudhary for 4 (39 balls), 27-5. Ben Rosbottom and Muhammad Zaid were the new batsmen but once again Matthew Grindley broke the partnership Muhammad Zaid caught by Dylan Henshall for 5 (13 balls), 37-6

Next in was Richard Turner who fell first ball caught by Kasim Munir off Matthew Grindley for 0, 39-7, Dom Jackson came to the wicket but was quckly out caught by Josh Boyne off Jamie Thomson for 1 (6 balls), 40-8, Thomson trapped James Lupton lbw first ball for 0, 40-9.

Ben Rosbottom and Khalil Patel had the highest partnership of the innings broken by Matthew Grindley claiming his eighth wicket bowling Khalil Patel for 2 (15 balls) as the visitors were bowled out fot 57 in 26.2 overs, Ben Rosbottom was undefeated on 25 (44 balls)

Matthew Grindley took 8-16 from 13.2 overs, Jamie Thomson 2-19 off 7, Izatullah Stankzia 0-2 from 1 and William Vause 0-16 off 5.

Chorley v Leyland

Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and asked the visitors to bat first, Alex Sutcliffe and Jacob Wright opened with a partnership of 22 broken with Alex Sutcliffe caught by James Lee off James Dunn for 11 (21 balls), 22-1

Zak Willox was in at three but lost his partner Jacob Wright lbw to James Lee for 14 (19 balls), 31-2, next in was Lloyd Tennant, Edwin Moulton made the break through trapping Zak Willox lbw for 14 (19 balls), 46-3. James Critchley joined Tennant and they took the score past the hundred, James Lee claimed his second wicket Lloyd Tennant caught by Ben Simpkins for 33 (55 balls), 112-4

The new batsman was Kurtis Watson but with only twenty runs added he was bowled by Matt Dawson for 13 (18 balls), 132-5, Karl Cross joined Critchley and they kept the scoreboard ticking over until Matt Dawson had James Critchley caught behind by Harry Barclay for 57 (84 balls), 165-6

Iain Critchley came in but lost his partner Karl Cross lbw to Matt Dawson for 22 (35 balls), 180-7, Adam Sexton was the new batsman but lost his partner Iain Critchley run out by Ben Simpkins for 12 (21 balls), 191-8. Kerwin Mungroo was next but soon out bowled by Ian Oakes for 2 (5 balls), 195-9

The innings came to a close on 200 in 49.1 overs with Matt Dawson bowling Andrew Jacques for 5 (4 balls). Adam Sexton was 9no (16 balls)

All the Chorley bowlers took a wicket lead by Matt Dawson with 4-55 from13.1 overs, James Lee 2-55 off 12, Edwin Moulton 1-25 from 8, Ian Oakes 1-29 off 10 and James Dunn 1-32 from 6

Ben Simpkins and Alfie Dobson opened for the hosts, Kerwin Mungroo made the break through bowlng Ben Simpkins for 8 (16 balls), 15-1). Roshen Silva was the Chorley number three and with Alfie Dobson were going along nicely until two wickets fell on 56, Roshen Silva was lbw to Andrew Jacques for 15 (23 balls), 56-2. Alfie Dobson followed bowled by Kerwin Mungroo for 29 (43 balls), 56-3

Zayn Wadiwala and Harry Barclay were the new batsmen and were making steady progress, their partnership was broken by Kurtis Watson having Zayn Wadiwala caught by Zak Willox for 13 (24 balls), 73-4, Edwin Moulton joined Harry Barclay and they took the hosts past the hundred, Andrew Jacques took centre stage taking 4 wickets with only four runs added to the total

He trapped Harry Barclay lbw for 24 (30 balls), 107-5, four runs later he bowled Andrew Holdsworth for 2 (15 balls), 111-6, three runs later he had James Dunn lbw for 1 (6 balls), 114-7, followed four balls later by James Lee caught by Jacob Wright for 0 (4 balls), 114-8

Edwin Moulton had been battling and was joined by Ian Oakes, their partnership was twenty four runs when Andrew Jacques claimed his sixth wicket Ian Oakes lbw for 15 (16 balls), 138-9. Matt Dawson 5no (28 balls) came in at eleven with ten overs remaing, he and Edwin Moulton 32no (96 balls) saw the hosts close on 157-9 in their 50 overs

Andrew Jacques took 6-50 from 15 overs, Kerwin Mungroo 2-36 off13, Kurtis Watson 1-54 from 11 and Iain Critchley 0-8 off 11

Garstang v Eccleston (Chorley)

Eccleston (Chorley) won the toss at the Riverside sports ground and invited the hosts to bat first, Michael Walling and Luke Smith opened for the home team and gave them a good start broken by Cameron Smith having Luke Smith caught by Jordan Bentham for 33 (33 balls), 47-1

Joseph Pearson came in at three and with Walling took the score past the hundred, Cameron Smith once again made the break through, Michael Walling was the man out caught by Jordan Bentham for 41 (68 balls), 105-2, Matthew Crowther was in next, the score moved along at a steady rate until Joseph Pearson was caught by Tom Potter off Nathan McDonnell for 40 (61 balls), 123-3

Mark Walling was the new batsman but lost his partner Matthew Crowther caught by Thomas Wilkinson off Nathan McDonnell for 19 (42 balls), 152-4. Nathan McDonnell struck for the visitors having Ryan Pearson caught by Martyn James Brierley for 0, 153-5, he then had Mark Walling lbw for 23 (32 balls), 162-6

There were only nine overs to go so Hugo Croft and Ian Walling raised the run rate taking the score past two hundred, Michael Atkinson broke the partnership having Hugo Croft caught by Tom Potter for 22 (21 balls), 204-7. Danny Gilbert came in next and kept up the momentum until Nathan McDonnell claimed his fifth wicket Ian Walling caught by Reece Thomas for 42 (24 balls), 249-8

Joel Anthony Derham 7no (6 balls) joined Danny Gilbert 16no (13 balls) and they saw the hosts close on 249-8 in their 50 overs

Nathan McDonnell took 5-84 form 10 overs, Cameron Smith 2-51 off 15, Michael Atkinson 1-42 from 10, Reece Thomas 0-25 off 5 and Thomas Wilkinson 0-43 from 10

The visitors reply got off to a disastrous start Waris Khan destroying the top order, He bowled Adam Norris for 1 (13 balls), 3-1, three balls later he trapped Alex Brooks lbw for 0 (3 balls), 3-2. He than bowled new batsman Martyn James Brierley for 3 (8 balls), 7-3

Opener Thomas Wilkinson had been watching the collapse but he now fell victim to Khan bowled for 4 (14 balls), 8-4. Nathan McDonnell and Reece Thomas had the task of rebuilding the innings, Ian Walling had other idea's bowling Nathan McDonnell for 0 (7 balls), 14-5

Michael Atkinson joined Reece Thomas, they doubled the score but once again Ian Walling struck with two wickets in two balls, Reece Thomas was caught by Luke Smith for 18 (14 balls), 29-6, next ball he bowled Jordan Bentham for 0, 29-7.

Tom Potter was the new batsman and with Atkinson battled away until Ian Walling made the break through bowling Michael Atkinson for 16 (30 balls), 48-8, number ten Nick Fowler was soon out lbw to Joel Anthony Derham for 6 (14 balls), 69-9

Danny Gilbert closed the innings bowling Cameron Smith for 5 (7 balls) as Eccleston (Chorley) were 74 all out in 24.1 overs with Tom Potter 20no (34 balls).

The main destroyers were Ian Walling 4-26 from 9 overs, Waris Khan 4-28 off 9 supported by Joel Anthony Derham 1-6 from 3 and Danny Gilbert 1-13 off 3.1

Kendal v Netherfield

Netherfield on the toss at Shap Road and put the hosts into bat and achieved early success, Freddie Fallows was caught by Ben Barrow off Sagar Udeshi for 0 (3 balls), 0-1. with only ten on the board two wickets fell, fellow opener Oliver Tyson was bowled by Samuel Medhurst for 4 (19 balls), 10-2. then number three Max Winskill was bowled by Matt Jackson for 5 (23 balls), 10-3

Things went from bad to worse, with only three runs added two wickets again fell on the same score, Bradley Earl went first bowled by Samuel Medhurst for 2 (4 balls), 13-4. next ball he had Finlay Richardson caught behind by Will Beeden for 0, 13-5.

Chirag Khurana was stood watching the collapse, his next partner was Lewis Richardson and they began to rebuild the innings, Oli Wileman broke the partnership with Lewis Ricardson caught by Harry Lee for 21 (57 balls), 54-6, Chris Miller took over scoring at a run a ball until Samuel Medhurst claimed his fourth wicket Miller lbw for 10 (10 balls), 69-7

Toby Tyson replaced Miller and with Khurana turned the game in a more positive light for the hosts, Samuel Medhurst once again breaking the partnership bowling Toby Tyson for 13 (49 balls), 146-8. Kuldeep Singh was the new batsman but he lost his partner Chirag Khulana run out by Oli Wileman for 95 (129 balls), 159-9. Number eleven Louis Backhouse was bowled by Matt Jackson on the last ball of the innings for 0 (1 ball) closing the Kendal innnings on 159 all out in 50 overs

For Netherfield Samuel Medhurst took 5-48 from 14 overs, Matt Jackson 2-48 off 13, Sagar Udeshi 1-19 from 15 and Oli Wileman 1-40 off 8

Josh Dixon and Aryan Varsani opened for the visitors and all seemed to be going well until on reaching twenty seven three wickets fell, Toby Tyson bowled Aryan Varsani for 21 (20 balls), 27-1, next ball new batsman Josh Charles was caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 0 (1 ball), 27-2. In the next over Kuldeep Singh had Josh Dixon caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 5 (25 balls), 27-3

Ben Barrow and John Huck were the two new batsmen, only nine runs were added when disaster for the visitors two wickets fell on the same score, Ben Barrow was caught by Chirag Khurana off Kuldeep Singh for 2 (8 balls), 36-4, Two balls later Singh bowled Sagar Udeshi for 0 (2 balls), 36-5

Will Beeden joined John Huck but soon lost his partner caught by Bradley Earl off Freddie Fallows for 13 (42 balls), 48-6. Harry Lee was next in and with Beeden slowly moved the score along, Will Beeden was bowled by Freddie Fallows for 27 (54 balls), 78-7

Oli Wileman was the new batsman but with only two runs added once again two wickets fell on the same score, Harry Lee was bowled by Chris Miller for 9 (37 balls), 80-8, Oli Wileman quickly followed bowled by Freddie Fallows for 0 (2 balls), 80-9

The Netherfield innings closed on 84 all out in 33 overs with Freddie Fallows bowling Matt Jackson for 4 (5 balls) leaving Samuel Medhurst 0no (2 balls)

The wickets for Kendal were Freddie Fallows 4-14 from 9 overs, Kuldeep Singh 3-22 off 7, Toby Tyson 2-27 from 8, Chris Miller 1-3 off 4 and Louis Backhouse 0-16 from 5

Penrith v Longridge

Penrith won the toss at Tynfield Park and invited the visitors to bat first, the vistitors got off to a bad start losing both openers with the score on 8, Tom Howarth was caught behind by Alister Craig off James Ellis for 0 (3 balls), 8-1. Joshua Mullin followed caught by Greg Cameron off Jack White for 8 (10 balls), 8-2

Matthew De Villiers and Zac Christie were the new batsmen and they took control scoring at nearly a run a ball, James Ellis broke the partnership having Zac Christie caught by James Bowman for 78 (75 balls), 145-3, Luke Platt was next in and continued the momentum, he lost partner Matthew De Villiers bowled by Jack White for 74 (84 balls), 169-4

Zach Proctor joined Luke Platt and they scored quickly until in the final overs they both fell, Zach Proctor went first run out by Alister Craig for 36 (61 balls), 248-5, Luke Platt followed without addition to the score bowled by Harsha Vithana 48 (62 balls), 248-6. Tom Turner 1no (2 balls ) and Jonathan Millward 1no (3 balls) saw the visitors close on 254-6 in their 50 overs

The Penrith bowling was Jack White 2-48 from 15 overs, James Ellis 2-28 off 9, Harsha Vithana 1-56 from 12, Marcus Todd 0-28 off 4, Finlay Hansford 0-31 from 6 and Greg Cameron 0-35 off 4

The weather delayed the start of the Penrith innings and so there target was reduced to 243 to win in 46 overs. James Bowman and Ollie Greenwood opened with a partnership of 37 broken when James Bowman was caught by Caleb Bradford off Matt Greenall for 19 (39 balls), 37-1

Harsha Vithana came in at three but lost his partner Ollie Greenwood bowled by Jake Durnell for 24 (53 balls), 53-2, Alister Craig replaced Greenwood and with Vithana took the score to 122 when Craig was caught by Matthew De Villiers off Caleb Bradford for 22 (44 balls), 122-3

Greg Cameron joined Vithana and they had a partnership of 57 broken by Matthew De Villiers trapping Harsha Vithana lbw for 76 (74 balls), 179-4. Owen Jones was next in but was run out by Matthew De Villiers for 3 (4 balls), 189-5.

Jack White came to the wicket with 4.4 overs remaing and 54 runs required for victory, Greg Cameron went on the attack but lost Jack White lbw to Matt Greenall for 14 (11 balls), 223-6. James Ellis came to the wicket 20 runs off 8 balls were needed, 19 runs were scored leaving the hosts one run short of victory on 242-6 in the 46 overs. Greg Cameron was 77no (49 balls) (5x4, 6x6) and James Ellis 2no (2 balls)

The Longridge bowling was Matt Greenall 2-59 from 13 overs, Caleb Bradford 1-31 off 6, Matthew De Villiers 1-48 from 5, Jake Durnell 1-66 off 12 and Jonathan Millward 0-34 from 10

St Annes v Fleetwood

St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and decided to bat first. Yohan De Silva and Tom Higson opened and took the score to 42 when three wickets fell including both openers, Yohan De Silva was first caught behind by Harry McAleer off Tiaan Van Vuuren for 23 (33 balls), 42-1. in the next over Declan Clerkin bowled Tom Higson for 17 (45 ball)s, 42-2, two balls later he bowled Nathan Armstrong for 0 (2 balls), 42-3

Alex McGloughlin and Nathan Bolus were the new batsmen but with only six runs added McGloughlin was caught behind by Harry McAleer off Tiaan Van Vuuren for 6 (12 balls), 48-4. Lukman Vahaluwala was the next man in but was quickly out caught by Atiq Uz Zaman off Declan Clerkin for 1 (6 balls), 49-5

Declan Clerkin claimed his fourth victim James Bradley caught by Atiq Uz Zaman for 1 (22 balls), 51-6. Next in was Mitch Bolus who fell caught behind by Harry McAleer off Rizwan Patel for 2 (8 balls), 56-7, Ryan Birkman joined Nathan Bolus and they were just seeing the beginings of a rebuild when Bolus was run out by Declan Clerkin for 18 (57 balls), 77-8

Will Trohear was in at ten and with Ryan Birkman took the score to 90 when Birkman was caught by Adam Sharrocks off Tiaan Van Vuuren for 15 (35 balls), 90-9. Paul Wilks was number eleven but with the score on 100 he was trapped lbw by Rizwan Patel for 4 (16 balls) as St Annes were bowled out for 100 in 44.4 overs

Declan Clerkin took 4-18 from 15 overs, Tiaan Van Vuuren 3-45 off 15, Rizwan Patel 2-18 from 7.4 and Jack Wilkinson 0-12 off 7

Fleetwood reply got off to a bad start losing Charlie Clark bowled by Lukman Vahaluwala for 0 (2 balls), 0-1. Number three Harry McAleer soon became Lukman Vahaluwala's second wicket lbw for 4 (12 balls), 4-2, Opener Andy Drake was next out caught by Will Trohear off Vahaluwala for 2 (7 balls), 9-3

Things did not improve for the visitors with only eight runs added two wickets fell, Tiaan Van Vuuren was bowled by Alec McGloughlin for 9 (15 balls), 17-4, Lukman Vahaluwala had Atiq Uz Zaman caught by Yohan De Silva for 2 (11 balls), 17-5

Declan Clerkin and Adam Sharrocks were the new batsmen, Alec McGloughlin made matters worse for the the visitors bowling Clerkin for 6 (10 balls), 27-6. Nathan Bend joined Sharrocks and they looked to be swinging the game in the visitors favour until three wickets were lost witout any addition to the score.

Mitch Bolus had Adam Sharrocks caught behind by James Bradley for 23 (37 balls) 68-7, Nathan Bend was caught by Mitch Bolus off Alec McGoughlin for 20 (30 balls), 68-8, two balls later McGoughlin bowled Rizwan Patel fo 0 (2 balls), 68-9

Fleetwood were bowled out for 73 in 27.2 overs with Alec McLoughlin taking his fifth wicket bowling William Hadlow for 2 (19 balls), Jack Wilkinson was 3no (20 balls)

The St Annes bowling was Alec McGoughlin 5-23 from 10.2 overs, Lukman Vahaluwala 4-19 off 9, Mitch Bolus 1-13 from 6 and Tom Higson 0-17 off 2
