The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 10 of the Northern Premier League saw Chorley go top on their own after a winning draw against close rivals Longridge.

Kendal lost to Fulwood & Broughton,

There were also wins for Blackpool, Fleetwood and Garstang. Netherfield had a winning draw against St Annes.

Eccleston v Blackpool

Eccleston (Chorley) won the toss at Doctors Lane and chose to bat first, openers Thomas Wilkinson and David Hewson were slowly moving the score along until Thomas Wilkinson was run out by Shivam Chaudhary for 8 (19 balls), 21-1

Thomas Foster was the hosts number three but soon lost his partner David Hewson caught by Jake Muncaster off Izatullah Stankzai for 11 (54 balls), 37-2, The new batsman was Martyn James Brierley and with Foster were looking good, their partnersship was broken by Shivam Chaudhary bowling Martyn James Brierley for 46 (62 balls), 121-3

Nathan McDonnell replaced Brierley and continued the momentum, their partnership was 41 broken by Matthew Grindley taking the prize wicket of Thomas Foster caught by Jake Muncaster for 57 (111 balls), 162-4. Reece Thomas came in but was soon out caught and bowled by Matthew Grindley for 2 (8 balls), 166-5

Jordan Bentham joined Nathan McDonnell but was soon out stumped by Ben Howarth off Shivam Chaudhary for 4 (8 balls), 155-5. New batsman Michael Atkinson 9no (7 balls) and Nathan McDonnell 30no (34 balls) saw the hosts close on 184-6 in their 50 overs

For Blackpool Matthew Grindley took 2-27 from 15 overs, Shivam Chaudhary 2-49 off 10, Izatullah Stankzai 1-29 from 6, William Vause 0-10 off 3, Dylan Henshall 0-19 from 2 and Jamie Thomson 0-41 off 14

The visitors got off to a bad start losing Tomas King off the second ball of the innings caught by Martyn James Brierley off Reece Thomas for 0 (2 balls), 0-1. The in form Shivam Chaudhary was in next and with Kasim Munir kept the scoreboard ticking over,

Cameron Smith struck with two wickets, he had Kasim Munir caught behind by David Hewson for 8 (29 balls) 40-2, then he had new man Dylan Henshall caught by Thomas Wilkinson for 2 (3 balls) 42-3, Jake Muncaster replaced Henshall and was supporting Shivam Chaudhary, Michael Atkinson broke the stand having Jake Muncaster stumped by David Hewson for 33 (57 balls), 126-4

Ben Howarth joined Chaudhary and with victory in sight Shivam Chaudhary was out for his fifth century of the season caught by Jordan Bentham off Reece Thomas for 106 (140 balls), 178-5, Izatullah Stankzai 6no (9 balls) came in and with Ben Howarth 20no (52 balls) saw the visitors home closing on 185-5 in 48.1 overs

The Eccleston (Cholrey) bowling was Cameron Smith 2-34 from 12, Reece Thomas 2-50 off 10.1, Michael Atkinson 1-14 from 7, Nathan McDonnell 0-17 off 4, Nick Fowler 0-18 from 6, Thomas Wilkinson 0-19 off 4 and Thomas Foster 0-25 from 5

Fleetwood v Penrith

Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater and elected to bat first, They made 226-9 in their 50 overs, Tiaan Van Vuuren lead the way with 78 supported by Jeremy Davies 67, Harry McAleer 39 and Adam Sharrocks 20

Harsha Vithana took 4-60 from 15 overs, Finlay Hansford 3-58 off 13, Finn Harrison 1-22 from 4, Marcus Todd 1-26 off 8. James Bowman 0-15 from 4 and Greg Cameron 0-41 off 6

In reply Penrith were bowled out for 121 in 45.2 overs, James Bowman top scored with 34, there were contributions from Harsha Vithana 17, Sulosan Thiru 15, Eddie Robson 12 and Finlay Hansford 12no

Declan Clerkin did the damage for the hosts with 4-35 form 15 ably supported by Rizwan Patel 3-27 off 10, Tiaan Van Vuuren 2-24 from 13.2, Jack Wilkinson 1-14 off 3 and Jeremy Davies 0-11 from 4

Fulwood & Broughton v Kendal

Kendal won the toss at the Highfield ground and chose to bat first, they got off to a disastrous start losing Freddie Fallows first ball caught by Simon Kerrigan off Jon Fenton for 0, 0-1. Max Winskill came in at three but lost his partner Oliver Tyson caught by Ben Rosbottom off Khalil Patel for 3 (8 balls), 14-2

Chirag Khurana came in next but unfortunately for the visitors was run out by Ben Rosbottom for 11 (22 balls), 30-3, Bradley Earl joined Winskill and were keeping the scoreboard ticking over until Khalil Patel had Max Winskill caught Lewis Wellings for by 16 (35 balls), 51-4

Finlay Richardson was the incoming batsman but with only ten runs added Khalil Patel claimed his third wicket Bradley Earl caught by Ewen Mansford for 21 (18 balls), 61-5. Lewis Richardson was next in and with Finlay Richardson looked to be rebuilding the innings, Hareen Buddila broke the partnership having Lewis Richardson caught by Simon Kerrigan for 20 (30 balls), 95-6

Chris Miller was Finlay Richardson's new partner, the partnership was blossoming until disaster struck for the visitors losing three wickets for two runs, Chris Miller was the first to go lbw to Jon Fenton for 17 (26 balls), 128-7, next out was Finlay Richardson also lbw to Hareen Buddila for 39 (64 balls), 130-8. new batsman Toby Tyson was bowled by Jon Fenton for 1 (10 balls), 130-9

The innings closed when James McWilliam stumped Louis Backhouse off Hareen Buddila for 4 (12 balls) with Kendal 134 all out in 37.5 overs, Kuldepp Singh was 0no (3 balls)

The wickets were shared amongst the Home bowlers, Jon Fenton took 3-27 from 11 overs, Hareen Buddila 3-33 off 9.5, Khalil Patel 3-47 from 9 and Simon Kerrigan 0-27 of 8

Ewen Mansford and Matthew Smith opened for the hosts and gave them a steady start broken by Kuldeep Singh having Matthew Smith caught by Lewis Richardson for 25 (24 balls), 34-1. Ben Parkinson was in at three but fell lbw to Chris Miller for 12 (18 balls), 55-2

Simon Kerrigan joined Ewen Mansford and they were begining to look dangerous until Freddie Fallows bowled Ewen Mansford for 23 (80 balls), 96-3, Hareen Buddila was the new man in but was soon out lbw to Freddie Fallows for 15 (14 balls), 118-4

That was the last success for the visitors as Simon Kerrigan 37no (49 balls) and new batsman Ben Rosbottom 11no (20 balls) saw the host home on 135-4 in 32.5 overs

Freddie Fallows took 2-26 from 10.5 overs, Kuldeep Singh 1-21 off 6, Chris Miller 1-27 from 7, Toby Tyson 0-21 off 3 and Loius Backhouse 0-35 from 6

Leyland v Garstang

Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial groung and invited the visitors to bat first, openers Michael Walling and Luke Smith got them off to a good start, their partnership broken by Iain Critchley having Michael Walling caught by Alex Sutcliffe for 23 (56 balls), 59-1

The Garstang number three was Matthew Crowther and with Luke Smith they had a partnership of 61 ended with Matthew Crowther out lbw to Kurtis Watson for 30 (78 balls) 126-2. the new batsman was Michael Walling who fell stumped by Adam Sexton off Iain Critchley for 10 (15 balls), 154-3

Luke Smith was scoring at a good rate but lost his next partner Ryan Pearson caught by Kerwin Mungroo for 11 (10 balls), 168-4. the innings was coming to a close and going for the runs new batsman Ian Walling was bowled by Kerwin Mungroo 10 (8 balls), 189-5.

The next wicket to fall was Luke Smith, he had just reached his century when he was bowled by Kerwin Mungroo for 101 (126 balls) 202-6. Hugo Croft 8no (6 balls) and Ashton Charles 5no (4 balls) saw the vistitors close on 209-6 in their 50 overs

The Leyland bowling was Iain Critchley 3-57 from 15 overs, Kerwin Mungroo 2-62 off 12, Kurtis Watson 1-51 from 13 and Andrew Jacques 0-32 off 10

Alex Sutcliffe and James Rounding were the host openers, James Rounding was the first to go caught by M Walling off Ian Walling for 4 (11 balls), 11-1, Zak Willox was in at three but lost his partner Alex Sutcliffe bowled by Ian Walling for 17 (37 balls), 34-2,

Ian Walling claimed his third victim Zak Willox caught behind by Matthew Crowther for 12 (28 balls), 35-3, James Critchley and Andrew Makinson were the new batsmen. only fourteen runs had been added when the host lost two wickets without addition, James Critchley was caught by M Walling off Joel Anthony Derham for 10 (13 balls), 49-4, two balls later he bowled Kurtis Watson for 0 (2 balls), 49-5

Karl Cross came to the wicket but was soon out caught by Hugo Croft off Gregour Carr for 7 (19 balls), 62-6. Things went from bad to worse with the loss of two quick wickets, Iain Critchley was lbw to Joel Anthony Derham for 0 (3 balls), 63-7, followed by Gregour Carr having Andrew Makinson lbw for 12 (42 balls), 63-8

Adam Sexton and Kerwin Mungroo dug in and tired to rebuild the innings, their partnership was broken by Matthew Crowther stumping Adam Sexton off Joel Anthony Derham for 4 (27 balls). Andrew Jacques joined Kerwin Mungroo and they had a partnership of thirty, Kerwin Mungroo fell caught by M Walling off Hugo Croft for 23 (38 balls) as Leyland were bowled out for 101 in 38.2 overs. Andrew Jacques was 10no (10 balls)

Joel Anthony Derham took 4-27 from 13 overs, Ian Walling 3-28 off 11, Gregour Carr 2-27 from 9, Hugo Croft 1-0 off 0.2, Waris Khan 0-7 from 2 and Michael Walling 0-10 off 3

Longridge v Chorley

Third placed Longridge entertained joint league leaders Chorley at the Newsham Memorial ground, Chorley won the toss and chose to bat first, Will Moulton and Alfie Dobson opened and gave the visitors a good start, their partnership broken with Matt Greenall having Alfie Dobson caught by Matthew De Villiers for 22 (25 balls), 41-1

Roshen Silva came in next and with Will Moulton began to dominate the home bowling, Will Moulton had reached his hundred when he was caught by Tom Howarth off Jonathan Millward for 104 (93 balls), 199-2, Joshua Pistrorius was the new batsman but soon became Jonathan Millward second wicket caught by Joshua Mullin for 11 (11 balls). 208-3,

Zayn Wadiwala joined Roshen Silva and they continued the run fest until last over when Jonathan Millward bowled Roshen Silva for 92 (136 balls), Harry Barclay 7no (2 balls) and Zayn Wadiwala 27no (34 balls) saw the visitors close on 281-4 in their 50 overs

The Longridge bowling figures were Jonathan Millward 3-50 from 12 overs, Matt Greenall 1-37 off 9, Caleb Bradford 0-15 from 4, Matthew De Villiers 0-35 off 11, Zach Proctor 0-35 from 6 and Jake Durnell 0-87 off 8

Joshua Mullin and Tom Howarth opened and had taken the score to 37 when Edwin Moulton caught and bowled Joshua Mullin for 10 (22 balls), 37-1, Matthew De Villiers came in and took up the challenge, they were doing well until Alfie Dobson ran out Tom Howarth for 46 (69 balls), 87-2

Zac Christie was the new man in but was out bowled by Joshua Pistorius for 6 (14 balls), 119-3, Chorley made a big break through with the dismissal of Matthew De Villiers caught behind by Harry Barclay off Matt Dawson for 53 (55 balls), 121-4

Luke Platt and Zach Proctor took on the chase, their partnership was broken by James Dunn having Zack Proctor caught behind by Harry Barclay for 36 (46 balls), 176-5, Tom Turner came to the wicket with the hosts needing over one hundred runs with only ten overs remaining, Edwin Moulton struck bowling Luke Platt for 31 (57 balls), 207-6

The target for the incoming batsman was to score as many runs as possible without losing wickets, in the last over of their innings Tom Turner was caugth by Sam Steeple off Matt Dawson for 24 (22 runs), 220-7, Jonathan Millward 8no (17 balls) and Jake Durnell 1no (1 ball) saw the home team close on 225-7 in their 50 overs

For Chorley Matt Dawson took 2-28 from 8 overs, Edwin Moulton 2-50 off 11, James Dunn 1-31 from 4, Joshua Pistorius 1-44 off 13, Will Moulton 0-26 from 8 and Sam Steeple 0-39 off 6

Netherfield v St Annes

St Annes won the toss at the Parkside Road ground and asked the hosts to bat first, Aryan Varsani and Reece Irving opened with Varsani scoring at a run a ball until he was caught behind by James Bradley off Mitch Boluus for 30 (29 balls), 37-1

Lee Hogg was number three but was soon out caught and bowled by Alex McGloughlin for 9 (14 balls), 49-2, Ben Barrow joined Reece Irving, their partnership was 146 broken by Lukman Vahaluwala bowling Reece Irving for 57 (141 balls), 195-3

The Netherfield innings was coming to a close and Lukman Vahaluwala took advantage bowling having Will Beeden caught by Nathan Armstrong for 1 (7 balls), 200-4, one run later he had Ben Barrow caught by Luke Jardine for 91 (107 balls), 201-5.

On the last ball of the innings Sagar Udeshi was run out by Mitch Bolus for 8 (4 balls) as Netherfield closed on 212-6 in their 50 overs with Josh Charles 2no (4 balls)

Lukman Vahaluwala took 3-59 from 15 overs, Mitch Bolus 1-39 off 10, Alec McGloughlin 1-41 from 6, Yohan De Silva 0-25 off 7 and Tom Higson 0-40 from 12

The St Annes reply got of to a very bad start losing Tom Higson caught by Josh Charles off Samuel Medhurst for 0 (2 balls), 10-1, James Bradley was in at three and was tied down until he was caught by Reece Irving off Harry Lee for 2 (33 balls), 35-2

Nathan Armstrong was the new batsman and with De Silva seemed to be turning the game round, Sagar Udeshi broke the partnership having Nathan Armstrong lbw for 32 (48 balls), 86-3. Sagar Udeshi then accounted for new man Luke Jardine lbw for 3 (7 balls), 90-4

Alec McGloughlin joined De Silva and they took the score past the hundred, Sagar Udeshi claimed the vital wicket of Yohan De Silva caught by Oli Wileman for 51 (97 balls), 109-5, Lukman Vahaluwala was next in but became Udeshi's fourth victim caught by Ben Barrow for 10 (17 balls), 125-6

Harry Birkman came in next but fell to the Barrow/Udeshi combination, caught Ben Barrow bowled Sagar Udeshi (fifth wicket) for 5 (10 balls), 133-7. Mitch Bolus joined Alec McGoughlin and they fought to save the match, Oli Wileman made the break through having Mitch Bolus caught by Aryan Varsani for 8 (21 balls), 133-8

Ryan Birkman was in at ten and held his end up until the last ball of the innings when he was caught by Lee Hogg off Oli Wileman for 11 (9 balls). St Annes closed on 170-9 in their 50 overs with Alec McGloughlin 34no (63 balls)

The Netherfield bowling was Sagar Udeshi 5-16 from 15 overs, Oli Wileman 2-48 off10, Harry Lee 1-26 from 4, Samuel Medhurst 1-34 off 8 Matt Jackson 0-13 from 8 and Reece Irving 0-26 off 5
