The Northern Cricket League Review

It is the 8th round of matches for the Northern Premier Cricket League. Garstang win and go top of the league, there were also wins for Kendal, Lancaster, Longridge and Penrith with Netherfield having a winning draw against Chorley

Fulwood & Broughton v Penrith

Penrith won the toss at the Highfield ground and invited the hosts to bat first, Matthew Smith and Mark Smith opened with a partnership of 30 when Marck Smith was caught by Jack White off James Ellis for 10 (20 balls) 20-1

In at no 3 was Jon Fenton, with only five runs added Matthew Smith was bowled by Jack White for 24 (30 balls), 35-2. Simon Kerrigan was in next but when he had made three (29 balls) he was run out by Jack White, 41-3

Sonal Dinusha replaced Kerrigan but was soon out caught behind by Alister Craig off Finlay Hansford for 6 (6 balls) 48-4. New batsman Ben Parkinson and Jon Fenton started to rebuild the innings but with the score on 60 Fenton was bowled by Bruce Glendinning for 12 (49 balls) 60-5

Parkinson's new partner was Zach Procter, they had put on eleven runs when Procter was bowled by Jack White for 3 (7 balls) 71-6, Lewis Wellings was in next but on 4 (11 balls) he was bowled by Jack White, 91-7

Jack White took his fourth wicket that of Ben Parkinson lbw for 23 (48 balls) 92-8, one run had been added when Dom Jackson was trapped lbw by James Bowman for 0 (4 balls) 93-9

The hosts innings was closed on 101 in 38.1 overs when Jack White bowled Muhammad Zaid for 10 (17 balls) with Chris Brookes 0no (8 balls)

Jack White took 5-32 from 13.1 overs, James Bowman 1-2 off 3, Finlay Hansford 1-11 from 6. Bruce Glendinning 1-14 off 10 and James Ellis 1-21 from 4

Nicky Burns and Alister Craig opened for the visitors but soon lost Craig bowled by Chris Brookes for 5 (21 balls) 11-1. Owen Jones came in at three and with Burns had a partnership of 32 which was broken when Burns was caught off Chris Brookes bowling for 21 (41 balls) 43-2

Mohit Kale was next in but fell caught by Muhammad Zaid off Simon Kerrigan for 4 (20 balls) 63-3, Kerrigan claimed his second wicket bowling Owen Jones for 30 (37 balls) 68-4

The new batsmen James Bowman and Jack White accumulated steadily but with the score on 89 Bowman was caught by Zach Procter off Dom Jackson for 6 (39 balls) 89-5, Ollie Greenwood replaced Bowman but was soon out lbw to Jon Fenton for 4 (4 balls) 93-6

That was the last success for the hosts as Jack White 19no and Finlay Hansford 4no (7 balls) saw the visitors to the second victory in a row on 102-6 in 35.1 overs

The wicket takers were Chris Brookes 2-24 from 8 overs, Simon Kerrigan 2-26 off 10, Dom Jackson 1-11 from 3 and Jon Fenton 1-17 from 9.1

Leyland v Garstang

Garstang won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and chose to bat first, Michael Wellings and Michael Walling opened but were soon parted Wellings caught by Michael Birchall off Nasir Nawaz for 5 (8 balls) 5-1

Punit Bisht came in at three and with Walling had a partnership of 71 when Bisht was caught by James Rounding off Karl Cross for 38 (58 balls) 76-2, Mark Walling replaced Bisht and with Michael Walling took the score to 206 when Michael Walling fell caught behind by Alex Williams off Nasir Nawaz for 99 (98 balls (16x4) 206-3

Ryan Pearson was next in but lost Mark Walling bowled by Michael Birchall for 71 (78 balls) 222-4, the new batsman was Tom Wells and with Pearson moved the score to 255 when Pearson was run out by Iain Critchley for 30 (20 balls)

Wells followed caught by James Rounding off Ben Weaver for 6 (13 balls) 257-6, Ian Walling had made five when he was caught by Iain Critchley off Michael Birchall (4 balls) 262-6

Michael Birchall cliamed his third victim Danny Gilbert caught by Jacob Wright for 9 (8 balls) 281-8, Matthew Crowther 20n0 (11 balls) and Ben Woodruff 2no (3 balls) saw the visitors close on 297-8 in their 50 overs

The Leyland wicket takers were Michael Birchall 3-52 from 9 overs, Nasir Nawaz 2-83 off 13, Karl Cross 1-48 from 12 and Ben Weaver 1-55 off 7

The Leyland openers were Nasir Nawaz and Jacob Wright, they gave the hosts a good start with a partnership of 66 when Wright was caught by Punit Bisht off Danny Gilbert for 28 (38 balls) 66-1

James Rounding came to the crease but was out for 5 (11 balls) 91-2, Kurtis Watson replaced Rounding but with only ten runs added he was run out by Danny Gilbert for 1 (21 balls) 101-3

Nawaz's next partner was Karl Cross and they took the score to 162 when Cross was caught by Danny Gilbert off Ian Wallng for 26 (35 balls) 162-4.

Fourteen runs had been added when the visitors struck a damaging blow claiming two wickets, Nasir Nawaz fell bowled by Ian Walling for 108 (92 balls) (13x4, 2x6) 176-5. Andrew Makinson was caught by Punit Bisht off Danny Gilbert for 6 (8 balls) 176-6

The two new batsmen were Ben Weaver and Iain Critchley, their partnership was twenty five when Ben Weaver was bowled by Rizwan Patel for 14 (14 balls) 201-7, Patel claimed his second victim Iain Critchley caught by Michael Walling for 24 (29 balls) 218-8

Ian Walling cleaned up the tail having Michael Pallett caught by Punit Bisht for 0 (5 balls) 218-9, He then bowled Michael Birchall for 1 (2 balls) as Leyland were all out for 220 in 42.4 overs with Alex Williams 0no (2 balls)

The visitors wicket takers were Ian Walling 4-60 from 12.4 overs, Rizwan Patel 2-33 off 6, Danny Gilbert 2-63 from 11 and Michael Walling 1-29 off9

Longridge v Blackpool

Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and elected to bat first, Luke Platt and Joshua Mullin opened and put on 27 for the first wicket when Platt was bowled by Alex Ryder for 23 (34 balls) 27-1.

Tom Howarth was in at three and with Mullin had a partnership of 53 when both players were out, Mullin run out by Ben Howarth for 29 (73 balls) 80-2, then Tom Howarth was caught by Joshua Boyne off Matthew Grindley for 27 (52 balls) 80-3

Zac Christie and James Whitehead were the new batsmen and they moved the total to 119 when Whitehead was bowled by Joshua Boyne for 10 (38 balls) 119-4, Thomas Turner was next in but fell bowled by Boyne for 1 (6 balls) 135-5

Rhys Morgan was CHristie's next partner and they moved the score along until Morgan became Boyne's third victim caught by Kasim Munir for 39 (21 balls) 200-6. Zac Christie 72no (76 balls) and William Vause 0no (0 balls) saw the hosts to the close of their innings on 210-6 in their 50 overs

Joshua Boyne took 3-50 from 8 overs, Alex Ryder 1-29 off 8 and Matthew Grindley 1-33 from 15

The visitors got off to a bad start losing both openers and no3 early, Tomas King was bowled by Jonathan Millward for 4 (11 balls) 5-1, No3 Dylan Henshall was caught by Joshua Mulin off Jonathan Millward for 2 (5 balls) 7-2

Jonathan Millward accounted for opener Kasim Munir bowling him for 0 (18 balls) 21-3, the introduction of Rory McDowell was an instant success taking two wickets in his first over, first trapping Joshua Boyne lbw for 17 (31 balls) 34-4 then having Jake Muncaster stumped by Thomas Turner for 8 (15 balls) 35-5

Ben Howarth and Arran Lewin dug in and tried to rebuild the innings, but on 80 Lewin was bowled by William Vause for 19 (46 balls) 80-6, Alex Ryder joined Howarth but lost Howarth caught by James Whitehead off Jake Durnell for 37 (54 balls) 99-7

Matthew Grindley replaced Howarth but soon fell caught behind by Thomas Turner off William Vause for 1 (8 balls) 110-8. In Vause's next over he claimed the remaing two wickets firstly Alex Ryder caught by Zac Christie for 13 (25 balls) 111-9 , next ball he bowled Jamie Thomson for 0 111 all out in 36.2 overs with Paul Danson 0no (6 balls)

For Longridge William Vause took 4-26 from 12.2 overs, Jonathan Millward 3-46 off 12 Rory McDowell 2-11 from 3 and Jake Durnell 1-24 off 9

Netherfield v Chorley

Chorley won the toss at Parkside Road and invited the hosts to bat first, Ben Barrow and Josh Dixon opened, the hosts got off to a disastrous start losing Josh Dixon caught behind by Harry Barclay off Will Moulton for 0 (3 balls) 1-1

Reece Irving joined Barrow and they took the score to 55 when Irving was caught behind by Harry Barclay off Sam Steeple for 22 (60 balls) 55-2, Bradley Earl replaced Irving and had a partnership of 87 when he was out lbw to Ian Oakes for 55 (56 balls) 132-3

Next in was Sagar Udeshi he contributed 31 (29 balls) in a psrtnership of 67 when was caught by Louis Johnson off Edwin Moulton, 199-4, Ben Barrow was the next wicket to fall bowled by Sam Steeple for 91 (135 balls) 207-5

Edwin Moulton caught and bowled Finlay Richardson for 1 (6 balls) 207-6, only one run had been added when John Mason was out lbw to Edwin Moulton for 0 (1 ball) 208-7, Daniel Bernet 7no (7 balls) and Oli Wileman 7no (4 balls) saw the hosts to close their innings on 225-5 in their 50 overs

For Chorley Edwin Moulton took 3-44 from 12 overs, Sam Steeple 2-63 off 13, Will Moulton 1-29 from 9 and Ian Oakes 1-39 off 10

The Chorley openers Andrew Holdsworth and Will Moulton started steadily but on 18 Holdsworth was caught by Josh Dixon off John Mason for 11 (20 balls),18-1, in at three was Harry Barclay but soon lost his partner Will Moulton caught by Oli Wileman off Samuel Medhurst for 15 (42 balls) 32-2

Roshen Silva joined Barclay and they had a stand of 51 when Silva was stumped by Finlay Richardson off Reece Irving for 9 (41 balls) 73-3, Alfie Dobson was Barclay's next partner and they had nearly doubled the score when Barclay fell bowled by Samuel Medhurst for 76 (106 balls) 144-4

Samuel Medhurst struck again having Edwin Moulton caught by Ben Barrow for 1 (9 balls) 148-5, Sagar Udeshi looked like he had given the hosts a chance of victory when he took two wickets in two balls, firstly Alfie Dobson caught by John Mason for 47 (44 balls) 164-6, then next ball bowled Alexander Howarth for 0 165-7

There were only a few overs left with Joseph Tiffin and Sam Steeple at the wicket, Steeple was out caught by Josh Dixon off Sagar Udeshi for 6 (15 balls) 182-8, now in the last over Joseph Tiffin was out caught by Samuel Medhurst off Sagar Udeshi for 9 (19 balls) 184-9

Ian Oakes was the Choley's no 11 batsman and he played out the final three balls to remain undefeated on 0 as the match ended in a draw with Chorley 184-9 in their 50 overs with Louis Johnson 0no (3 balls)

Sagar Udeshi took 4-16 from 15 overs, Samuel Medhurst 3-51 off 10, John Mason 1-17 from 6 and Reece Irving 1-32 off 6

St Annes v Lancaster

Lancaster won the toss at Vernon Road and decided to bat first, Faizan Khan and Eddie Steinson opened taking the score to 23 when Seinson was caught behind by James Bradley off Lukman Vahaluwala for 6 (18 balls) 23-1

Laurie Atkinson came in at three and the partnership with Khan 32 when Khan was caught by Nathan Bolus off Tom Higson for 32 (56 balls) 55-2, Irfan Khan replaced Faizan Khan and kept the scoreboard ticking over, with the score on 113 Higson struck having Khan caught behind by James Bradley for 29 (34 balls) 113-3

St Annes suffered a blow when opening bat Luke Jardine had to leave the field with a serious hand injury, Lancaster supplied a substitute fielder for the rest of the innings

Jamie Heywood was next in but in Yohan De Silva's second over was caught by Nathan Bolus for 4 (6 balls) 118-4, Steven Fisher joined Atkinson and they were going along nicely when De Silva had Atkinson lbw for 65 (104 balls) 149-5

Two runs had been added when Harry Birkman had Steven Fisher caught by Yohan De Silva for 6 (21 balls) 151-6, Yohan De Silve claimed two quick wickets bowling David Steinson for 1 (4 balls) 156-7 followed by having Kieran Moffat caught by Nathan Bolus for 5 (12 balls) 161-8

Liam Moffat became Yohan De Silva's fifth wicket stumped by James Bradley for 12 (17 balls) 171-9, the innings came to a close with Harry Birkman bowling Lee Sparks for 9 (9 balls) Lancaster all out for 183 in 49.4 overs with Ben Simm 6no (9 balls)

Yohan De Silva took 5-42 from 10 overs, Harry Birkman 2-32 off 9.4, Tom Higson 2-59 from 15 and Lukman Vahaluwala 1-23 off 8

Tom Higson and Alex Bradley opened for the hosts and disaster, Tom Higson fell in the first over caught by Kieran Moffat off Liam Moffat for 0 (5 balls) 0-1, Yohan De Silva replaced Higson but lost Alex Bradley bowled by Ben Simm for 4 (5 balls) 4-2

Lukman Vahaluwala came in at four but wicket number three fell when De Silva was caught behind by Lee Sparks off Ben Simm for 4 (8 balls) 13-3, Nathan Bolus joined Vahaluwala and they tried to turn the game around but on 45 both were out, Vahaluwala was run out by Ben Simm for 27 (19 balls) 45-4, Bolus followed caught behind by Lee Sparks off Ben Simm for 6 (19 balls) 45-5

Liam Moffat accounted for Andy Drake caught by Kieran Moffat for 0 (1 ball) 47-6. Nathan Bend was next in and livened things up with two fours and two sixes, he lost his partner James Bradley caught by Irfan Khan off Liam Moffat for 0 (14 balls) 71-7

One run later and Nathan Bend was out caught behind by Lee Sparks off Liam Moffat for 23 (21 balls) 72-8, Mitch Bolus was joined by Harry Birkman who decided to go down fighting hitting four fours, he lost partner Bolus caught by David Steinson off Liam Moffat for 4 (16 balls) 93-9

Luke Jardine was unable to bat so St Annes were all out for 93 in 20.1 overs with Harry Birkman undefeated on 17 (13 balls)

Liam Moffat took 5-26 from 10.1 overs and Ben Simm3-59 off 10

Vernon Carus v Kendal

Kendal won the toss at the Vernon Carus Sports aand Social Club and invited the hosts to bat first, Yasin Patel and Wes Royle opened but with the score on eleven Patel was caught and bowled by Chris Miller for 6 (26 balls) 11-1

Jamie Rigby was in next and with Royle batted carefully and took the score to 29 when Royle was run out by Joseph Dodds for 13 (38 balls) 29-2, Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage came in at four and was quickly out caught behind by Sam Fletcher for 0 (11 balls) 31-3

Ben Duerden came in but lasted only two balls lbw to Chris Miller for 0, 31-4, Jack Airey joined Rigby but fell lbw to Matthew Park for 7 (11 balls) 44-5, Jamie Rigby's battling innings came to an end when he was caught by Darren Nightingale off Chris Miller for 12 (52 balls) 50-6

Matthew Park bowled Bob Bridges for 0 17 balls) 54-7, the Vernon Carus innings came to a quick end with three wickets falling on 63, Matthew Park trapped Jacob Holland lbw for 13 (31 balls) 63-8, next ball Park had Matthew Timms caught behind for 0, 63-9

Chris Miller brought the innings to a close with Irshad Desai caught and bowled for 0 (7 balls), Vernon Carus all out for 63 in 30.5 overs

Chris Miller took 5-19 from 13.5 overs and Matthew Park 4-11 off 8

Darren Nightingale and Joseph Dodds opened for the visitors and lost Dodds lbw to Matthew Timms for 0 (1 ball) 2-1, Chris Miller joined Nightingale and they took the score ot 24 when Nightingale was bowled by Matthew Timms for 20 (17 balls) 24-2.

Matthew Timms trapped Chris Miller lbw for 3 (17 balls) 28-3. That was the last success for the hosts as Rongsen Jonathan 17no (27 balls) and Oliver Tyson 20 (32 balls) saw the visitors to 65-3 in 14.3 overs

Matthew Timms took 3-24 from 6.1 overs
