The Northern Cricket League Review

It is the 7th round of matches for the Northern Premier Cricket League. Penrith celebrate their first win of 2022, there are also wins for Blackpool, Fulwood & Broughton, Garstang, Longridge and St Annes

Fulwood & Broughton v Leyland

Leyland won the toss at the Highfield ground and chose to bat first, Nasir Nawaz and Jacob Wright opened, Wright was out caught by Jon Fenton off Chris Brookes for 0 (2 balls) 8-1

James Rounding came in at 3 and with Nasir they took the score to 25 when two wickets fell, firstly Nasir was bowled by Chris Brookes for 19 (33 balls) 25-2, then next ball Kurtis Watson was caught by Jon Fenton for 0 25-3

Nathan McDonnell fell next another victim for Chris Brookes bowled for 2 (4 baalls), 27-4, Things were not improving for the visitors with James Rounding bowled by Dom Jackson for 10 (39 balls) 32-5

Dom Jackson took two more wickets, Andrew Makinson bowled for 2 (30 balls) 33-6 followed by Michael Pallet bowled for 0 (7 balls) 34-7. Iain Critchley and Ben Weaver tried to rebuild the innings but on 52 Ben Weaver was out lbw to Sonal Dinusha for 13 (32 balls), 52-8

Chris Brookes had been brought back into the attack and finished off the Leyland innings, he bowled Alex Williams for 0 (7 balls) 53-9 followed next ball trapping Joe Shackleton lbw for 0, Leyland 53 all out in 30.5 overs with Iain Critchley 7no (29 balls)

The hosts can thank Chris Brookes with figures off 10.5 overs 5 maidens 9 runs and 6 wickets supported by Dom Jackson 3-8 from 5 overs and Sonal Dinusha 1-8 off 8

Matthew Smith and Muhammad Zaid opened and were soon parted Smith caught by James Rounding off Nathan McDonnell for 2 (10 balls) 5-1. Mike Sambell joined Zaid but on 22 Zaid was run out by Alex Williams for 3 (28 balls) 22-2

Simon Kerrigan replaced Zaid and with Mike Sambell saw the hosts to victory reaching their target 56-2 in 19.5 overs, Kerrigan was 25no (26 balls) and Sambell 24no (56 balls)

Nathan McDonnell took the only wicket 1-24 from 10 overs

Kendal v Blackpool

Blackpool won the toss at Shap Road and invited the hosts to bat first, Joseph Dodds and Darren Nightingale opened but Dodds was bowled in the first over by Matthew Grindley for 0 (2 balls) 0-1

Chris Miller came in at 3 but lost Darren Nightingale caught by Dylan Henshall for 11 (28 balls), 13-2. Rongsen Jonathan joined Miller and they battled away until on 51 Jonathan was bowled by Jamie Thomson for 9 (32 balls) 51-3

Oliver Tyson was in next and with Miller took the score to 70 when Tyson was caught by Matthew Grindley off Arran Lewin for 6 (15 balls) 70-4. Chris Miller's battling innings came to an end trapped lbw by Arran Lewin for 32 (113 balls), 71-5

Sam Fletcher and Kuldeep Singh fought to rebuil the innings but on 88 both were out, first Kuldeep Singh caught by Dylan Henshall off Joshua Boyne for 4 (22 balls) 88-6. next Fletcher was bowled by Matthew Grindley for 13 (31 balls) 88-7

Paul Dodds and Matthew Park were the new batsmen and they took the total to 96 when Dodds was bowled by Joshua Boyne for 4 (13 balls) 96-8. Richard Dakin replaced Dodds but lost Park stumped by Ben Howarth off Matthew Grindley for 10 (21 balls) 104-9

The Kendal innings came to a close on 109 all out in 49.5 overs when Toby Tyson was stumped by Ben Howarth off Joshua Boyne for 2 (11 balls) with Richard Dakin 4no (12 balls)

Matthew Grindley had Blackpool's best figures with 4-15 from 13 overs with Joshua Boyne 3-20 off 11.5, Arran Lewin 2-10 from 5 and Jamie Thomson 1-12 off 7

Tomas King and Kasim Munir opened for the visitors but with the score on 20 Munir was caught by Darren Nightingale off Chris Miller for 4 (20 balls) 20-1. No 3 was Joshua Boyne and with King had a partnership of 24 when Miller bowled King for 26 (51 balls) 44-2

The new batsman was Jake Muncaster and with Boyne they batted steadily until with the score on 71 Muncaster was bowled by Matthew Park for 18 (33 balls) 71-3, next in was Ben Howarth but fell caught by Joseph Dodds off Matthew Park for 2 (10 balls) 79-4

Dylan Henshall joined Boyne and they took the score with one run required for victoy when Henshall was bowled by Toby Tyson for 5 (20 balls) 109-5. Joshua Boyne hit the winning run to see the visitors home on 110-5 in 35.3 overs, with Boyne 45no (77 balls) and Lewin 0no (2 balls)

The Kendal wicket takers were Matthew Park 2-24 from 7 overs, Chris Miller 2-43 off 13.3 and Toby Tyson 1-10 from 4

Lancaster v Garstang

Garstang won the toss at Lune Road and put the hosts into bat first, Lancaster were bowled out for 92 in 45.4 overs with runs from Irfan Khan 25 (43 balls), Liam Moffat 21 (33 balls) and Jack Lord 19 (110 balls)

The wickets taken by Garstang were Danny Gilbert 5-17 from 10 overs, Rizwan Patel 2-31 off 10, Michael Walling 1-5 from 2.4, Ian Walling 1-13 off 12 and Joel Anthony Derham 1-15 from 9

In reply Garstang knocked off the runs in 21.3 overs closing on 93-1, Michael Walling was undefeated on 32 (64 balls) along with Punit Bisht 35 (41 balls). Michael Wellings was the only wicket to fall caught and bowled by Ben Simm for 35 (41 balls)

Ben Simm took 1-30 from 5 overs

Longridge v Netherfield

Netherfield won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and invited the hosts to bat first, Luke Platt and Joshua Mullin opened and had made 18 when Platt was bowled by Matt Jackson for 8 (23 balls) 18-1

Connor Rutland came in at 3 but lost Mullin caught by Bradley Earl off Louis Backhouse for 9 (26 balls) 24-2, Zac Christie replced Mullin but lost his partner Rutland caught by Lee Hogg off Ashutosh Singh for 13 (22 balls) 39-3

Caleb Bradford was in next but was soon out caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Samuel Medhurst for 3 (23 balls) 46-4, Christie's next partner was Thomas Turner and they put on 99 runs when Turner was caught by Ben Barrow off Ashutosh Singh for 46 (53 balls) 145-5

Rhys Morgan replaced Turner and had made 16 (19 balls) when he was caught by Reece Irving off Ashutosh Singh, 174-6. William Vause joined Christie soon to see his partner fall bowled by Daniel Bernet for 83 (112 balls) 199-7

Vause was trapped lbw by Samuel Medhurst for 18 (20 balls) on the last ball of the visitors innings as they finnished on 209-8 in thier 50 overs with Jake Durnell 3no (4 balls)

The Netherfield wicket takers were Ashutosh Singh 3-56 from 15 overs, Samuel Medhurst 2-20 off 8, Daniel Bernet 1-33 from 6, Louis Backhouse 1-35 off 10 and Matt Jackson 1-42 from 9

Ben Barrow and Bradley Earl opened for the visitors and got them off to a good start reaching 60 when Barrow was out lbw to Caleb Bradford for 27 (63 balls) 60-1, Reece Irving was no3 but lost Bradley Earl lbw to Caleb Bradford for 45 (48 balls) 77-2

Irving was out stumped by Thomas Turner off Rory McDowell for 1 (11 balls) 79-3, the two new batsmen Ashutosh Singh and Finlay Richardson knuckled down and kept the scoreboard ticking over until on 119 Singh was caught by Rhys Morgan off Caleb Bradford for 23 (26 balls) 119-4

Lee Hogg was Richardson's next partner and they had added 25 runs when Hogg was caught by Connor Rutland off Jake Durnell for 7 (22 balls) 144-5, Daniel Bernet replaced Hogg but with only eight runs added two wickets fell, Finlay Richardson lbw to Jake Durnell for 39 (52 balls) 152-6, Bernet was bowled by Connor Rutland for 1 (7 balls) 152-7

The visitors were now looking to save the game but two wickets by Caleb Bradford swung the game in the hosts favour, he bowled Louis Backhouse for 7 (8 balls) 159-8, then had Oli Wileman caught by Luke Platt for 0 (16 balls) 160-9

William Vause claimed victory for the hosts bowling Matt Jackson for 8 (11 balls) and the visitors were 169 all out in 46.4 overs with Samuel Medhurst 1no (18 balls)

Caleb Bradford took 5-35 from 15 overs, Jake Durnell 2-3 off 4, Connor Rutland 1-27 from 6 and William Vause 1-27 off 4.4

Penrith v Chorley

Penrith won the toss at Tynefield Park and asked the visitors to bat first, Andrew Holdsworth and Will Moulton opened for the visitors but were soon parted as Holdsworth was caught behind by Alister Craig off James Ellis for 2 (14 balls) 14-1

Harry Barclay joined Moulton and they had taken the score to 54 when Barclay was bowled by James Bowman for 14 (30 balls) 54-2, Roshen Silva came in next but lost Moulton caught behind by Alister Craig off Bruce Glendinning for 36 (64 balls) 60-3

Alfie Dobson replaced Moulton, Bruce Glendinning struck bowling Roshen Silva for 10 (21 balls) 77-4, Asher Hart had Alfie Dobson caught by Owen Jones for 9 (35 balls) 79-5

Three runs had been added when the visitors lost three wickets, Alexander Howarth caught and bowled by Asher Hart for 1 (6 balls) 82-6 Edwin Moulton caught and Bowled by Bruce Glendinning for 3 (9 balls) 82-7, finally Sam Steeple lbw to Bruce Glendinning first ball for 0, 82-8

Asher Hart then cleaned up the tail, first he had Louis Johnson caught behind by Alister Craig for 1 (13 balls), finally having Joseph Tiffin caught behind for 2 (13 balls) meaning the visitors were 86 all out in 35.2 overs. Ian Oakes was 0no (6 balls)

The wicket takers were Asher Hart 4-13 from 12.2 overs, Bruce Glendinning 4-20 off 11, James Bowman 1-18 from 5 and James Ellis 1-28 off 7

Nicky Burns and Asher Hart opened for the hosts and got off to a disatrous start losing two wickets in the first over, Burns the first to go caught behind by Harry Barclay off Edwin Moulton for 0 (3 balls)0-1 next ball Greg Cameron bowled for 0 0-2

Mohit Kale joined Hart and they had to fight for every run but with 24 on the board Kale was caught by Andrew Holdsworth off Sam Steeple for 5 (42 balls) 24-3, James Bowman replaced Kale and carried on the fight but with 14 runs added Hart was bowled by Sam Steeple for 23 (66 balls) 38-4,

Owen Jones was Bowman's next partner but with the total on 69 the hosts lost two wickets, firstly Jones bowled by Ian Oakes for 2 (34 balls) 69-5, three balls later Oakes had Alister Craig caught behind by Harry Barclay for 0 (3 balls) 69-6

That was the last success for the visitors as James Bowman 38no (78 balls) and Ollie Greenwood 1no (22 balls) saw the hosts home to their first victory of 2022 closing on 87-6 in 41 0vers

For Chorley Ian Oakes took 2-2 from 3 overs, Sam Steeple 2-17 off 10 and Edwin Moulton 2-30 from 11

St Annes v Vernon Carus

St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and invited the visitors to bat first, Matthew Stevenson and Bob Bridges made a watchful start but lost Bridges lbw to Lukman Vahaluwala for 0 (17 balls) 15-1

Jamie Rigby came in at 3 and with Stevenson added 42 runs when he was caught by Alex Bradley off Tom Higson for 8 (37 balls) 57-2, Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage came in next but was run out by Nathan Bend for 0 (3 balls) 59-3

Yasin Patel was in next but was quickly out caught behind by James Bradley off Nathan Bolus for 2 (14 balls) 62-4, Alan Maguire replaced Patel but lost Stevenson caught by Tom Higson off Harry Birkman for 60 (100 balls) 81-5

Jack Ashworth joined Maguire and they both became victims of Lukman Vahauwala first Maguire bowled for 2 916 balls) 86-6 followed by Ashworth bowled for 4 (8 balls) 87-7

Vahaluwala claimed his fourth victim Ben Thomas caught behind by James Bradley for 0 (5 balls) 97-8, Matthew Timms was lbw to Ryan Birkman for 1 (2 balls) 98-9. The innings closed on 105 in 37.2 overs when Vahaluwala claimed his fifth wicket bowling Max Livesey for 1 (3 balls), Jacob Holland was 17no (19 balls)

The St Annes wicket takers were Lukman Vahaluwala 5-16 from 10.2 overs, Ryan Birkman 1-17 off 2, Nathan Bolus 1-19 from 7, Tom Higson 1-21 off 8 and Harry Birkman 1-22 from 10

Tom Higson and Alex Bradley opened with a stand of 32 when Bradley was caught behind by Bob Bridges off Matthew Timms for 14 (23 balls) 32-1, Yohan De Silva joined Higson and they took the visitors attack apart taking 23 runs off the 17th over to reach their target of 110-1 in 17 overs

Tom Higson was undefeated on 65 (10x4 2x6) a along with Yohan De Silva 29 (28 balls). Matthew Timms took 1-31 from 6 overs
