The Northern Cricket League Review
It is the 5th round of matches for the Northern Premier Cricket League. Champions Blackpool win against Chorley and move to top of the league, There were also wins for Fulwood & Broughton, Garstang, Lancaster, Leyland and St Annes
Blackpool v Chorley
Blackpool won the toss at Stanley Park and invited the visitors to bat first. Andrew Holdsworth and Will Moulton opened but Moulton was bowled by Matthew Grindley for 0 (3 balls) 3-1
Harry Barclay came in at three but was caught behind off Alex Ryder for 4 (8 balls), 8-2. Andrew Holdsworth was caught and bowled by Matthew Grindley for 4 (24 balls), 8-3
Roshen Silva and Alfie Dobson began the repair work but with there partnership on 18 Dobson was bowled by Matthew Grindley for 8 (18 balls) 26-4, Edwin Moulton replaced Dobson but soon became Grindley's fourth victim lbw for 1 (17 balls) 28-5
Chorley's woes increased with Joseph Tiffin caught behind by Ben Howarth for 0 (6 balls) giving Matthew Grindley his fifth wicket, 30-6. Roshen Silva was battling at one end and with incoming batsman Sam Steeple took the score to 44 when Steeple fell caught behind by Ben Howarth off Grindley for 13 (19 balls) 44-7
Louis Johnson fought to stay with Silva but with 8 runs added he was caught by Kasim Munir off Steven Mercer for 2 (33 balls) 52-8.Keiran McCullagh joined Silva and they put on forty runs when McCullagh was out lbw to Arran Lewin for 21 (34 balls) 92-9
Gaurav Dhar came in at eleven and continued the fight but was out caught by Arran Lewin off Dylan Henshall for 15 (18 balls) as Chorley were 121 all out in 49.2 overs with Roshen Silva 48no (114 balls)
Matthew Grindley had the remarkable figures of 15 overs 9 maidens 17 runs 6 wickets, the other wicket takers were Steven Mercer 1-15 from 15 overs, Dylan Henshall 1-22 off 4.2, Alex Ryder 1-23 from 6 and Arran Lewin 1-40 off 9
Tomas King and Kasim Munir opened for the hosts but lost King bowled by Edwin Moulton for 4 (5 balls) 4-1. Dylan Henshall came in at three and with Munir slowly moved the score onto 36 when Henshall was caught by Keiran McCullagh off Sam Steeple for 24 (46balls) 36-2
Stuart Ashford replaced Henshall and they kept the scorebaord ticking over but with 42 runs added Munir was lbw to Keiram McCullagh for 30 (77 balls) 78-3, Jake Munsater came in a four but lost Ashford caught behind by Harry Barclay off Louis Johnson for 21 (52 balls) 88-4
Keiran McCullagh had Jake Muncaster caught for 3 (10 balls) 92-5, The visitors had a glimmer of hope improved when two wickets fell on 98, Arran Lewin was bowled by Louis Johnson for 0 (9 balls) 98-6 followed by Matthew Grindley caught behind by Harry Barclay off Johnson for 0 (5 balls) 98-7
The game was evenly poised but Ben Howarth and Alex Ryder dug in and had taken the score within sight of victory when Howarth was lbw to Sam Steeple for 22 (49 balls) 119-8. Alex Ryder 8no (23 balls) and Paul Danson 2no (3 balls) saw the hosts home on 122-8 in 47 overs
The Chorley wicket takers were Louis Johnson 3-8 from 7 overs, Sam Steeple 2-30 off 11, Keiran McCullagh 2-36 from 8 and Edwin Moulton 1-23 from 11
Lancaster v Kendal
Lancaster won the toss at Lune Road and put the visitors in to bat with immediate success, Danny Lamb did the hat-trick having Darren Nightingale caught behind by Lee Sparks for 5 (6 balls), 6-1, next ball Rongsen Jonathan was out lbw for 0, 6-2, and his hat-trick was completed having Paul Dodds lbw for 0, 6-3
Lamb took his fourth wicket David Batty caught Irfan Khan for 0 (6 balls), 7-4, Things went from bad to worse with Harry Lee caught behind by Lee Sparks off Liam Moffat for 0 (6 balls) 12-5.
Chris Miller had been stranded at one end watching the collapse but was joined by Sam Fletcher and they battled to retrieve the situation, with the total on 46 Fletcher fell caught by David Steinson off Ben Simm for 14 (48 balls) 46-6
Two more runs had been added when Miller was bowled by David Seinson for 18 (91 balls) 48-7, Kuldeep Singh and Matthew Park continued the fight but with their partnership on 14 Park was caught behind by Lee Sparks off Irfan Khan for 7 (42 balls) 62-8
Alec Carradus replaced Park but fell caught by Jamie Heywood off Irfan Khan for 1 (11 balls) 70-9. Kuldeep Singh was last out caught and bowled by Ben Simm for 17 (73 balls) resulting in the visitors being 76 all out in 48.5 overs with Andrew Dugalde 1no (11 balls)
Danny Lamb took 4-18 from 8 overs, Irfan Khan 2-13 off 6, Ben Simm 3-14 from 13.5, David Steinson 1-5 off 10 and Liam Moffat 1-17 from 11
In reply the hosts were going to have to fight for their runs, they lost Steven Fisher bowled by Kuldeep Singh for 0 (8 balls) 1-1. Danny Lamb joined Jamie Heywood but the partnership was broken with Heywood bowled by Kuldeep Singh for 11 (24 balls) 19-2
Irfan Khan replaced Heywood but with the score on 22 two wickets fell, Danny Lamb was caught by Darren Nightingale off Harry Lee for 8 (33 balls), 22-3, next ball Lee bowled David Steinson for 0, 22-4
Irfan Qayyum joined Khan and they moved the score to 36 when Kuldeep Singh took his third wicket Qayyum lbw for 3 (3 balls), 36-5, Laurie Atkinson joined Khan and they steadied the ship but on 64 Atkinson was bowled by Kuldeep Singh for 8 (34 balls), 64-6
Kieran Moffat was next in and with Khan saw the hosts home for 79-6 in 25.3 overs, Irfan Khan was undefeated on 36 (45 balls) as was Kieran Moffat 9 (11 balls)
Kuldeep Singh took 4-29 from 13 overs with Harry Lee 2-28 off 7
Leyland v Vernon Carus
Vernon Carus won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and invtied the hosts to bat first, Nasir Nawaz and James Rounding opened but were soon parted Rounding caught by Jamie Rigby off Matthew Timms for 1 (4 balls) 6-1
Kurtis Watson came in at three and with Nawaz put on 38 when Watson was bowled by Matthew Timms for 11 (16 balls) 44-2, James Critchley came in at four but lost Nawaz caught by James Airey off Matthew Timms for 44 (52 balls) 59-3,
Critchley soon followed caught behind by Bob Bridges off Max Livesey for 2 (33 balls) 65-4, Andrew Makinson joined Karl Cross and they kept the scoreboard ticking over, twenty one runs had been added when Makinson was caught by Jamie Rigby off David Sullivan for 11 (16 balls) 86-5
Karl Cross fell one run later caught behind by Bob Bridges off Max ivesey for 17 (36 balls) 87-6, The hosts were in trouble and Iain Critchley and Ben Weaver dug in and put on 95 runs when they both fell on the same score.
First to go was Iain Critchley lbw to David Sullivan for 43 (63 balls) 182-7, then Weaver was bowled by Jacob Holland for 41 (70 balls) 182-8. Alex Williams 9no (6 balls) and Joe Shackleton 2no (4 balls) saw the hosts to the close finnishing on 197-8 in their 50 overs
The Vernon Carus wicket takers were Matthew Timms 3-50 from 15 overs, Max Livesey 2-32 off 10, David Sullivan 2-42 from 10 and Jacob Holland 1-63 off 15
Matthew Stevenson and Wes Royle opened for the visitors and got them off to a good start until Stevenson was caught by Nasir Nawaz off Kurtis Watson for 26 (37 balls) 44-1, Jamie Rigby joined Royle but with only 14 runs added Royle was bowled by Kurtis Watson for 25 (39 balls) 58-2
Jack Airey replaced Royle but soon became Watson's third victim caught by James Critchley for 11 (23 balls) 72-3, James McDonagh came in at five but was out caught by Kurtis Watson off Iain Critchley for 0 (5 balls) 76-4
Jamie Rigby and Christian Ash settled thing down and their partnership was 31 when Rigby was caught behind by Alex Williams for 24 (46 balls) 107-5. Ash was out next caught by Kurtis Waton off Nasir Nawaz for 2 (28 balls) 115-6
Bob Bridges and Jacob Holland continued to make progress until Bridges was lbw to Nawaz for 6 (21 balls) 127-7, David Sullivan replaced Bridges and had made 9 (18 balls) when he was bowled by Kurtis Watson. 158-8
Watson took the final two wickets bowling Matthew Timms for 5 (12 balls) 170-9 then next ball bowling Max Livesey for 0 resuting in the visitors 170 all out in 45.3 overs with Jacob Holland undefeated on 33 (45 balls)
Kurtis Watson took 6-44 in 12.3 overs with Iain Critchley 2-30 from 10 and Nasir Nawaz 2-36 off 9
Longridge v Fulwood & Broughton
Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and elected to bat first, Matthew Rosbottom and Matthew Smith opened but Rosbottom was out lbw to Jonathan Millward for 2 (16 balls), 15-1
Mike Sambell came in at three but lost Smith caught behind by Thomas Turner off Jonathan Millward for 14 (29 balls) 21-2. Simon Kerrigan replaced Smith and with Sambell put on 41 runs when Sambell was run out for 24 (42 balls) 62-3.
Sonal Dinusha came in next and with Kerrigan had a partnership[ of 89 when Kerrigan was caught by Connor Rutland off Jake Durnell for 61 (104 balls) 151-4. Ben Parkinson was Dinusha's partner and they took the score to 191 when Dinusha was out hit wicket off Connor Rutland for 57 (55 ballls), 191-5
Zach Proctor came in but was lbw to Jake Durnell for 1 (3 balls) 194-6. Ben Parkinson fell lbw to Connor Rutland for 19 (20 balls) 196-7. Muhammed Zaid and Jon Fenton were the new batsmen. Durnell trapped Fenton lbw for 1 (4 balls) 201-8
Muhammed Zaid and Dom Jackson were in the last over when Zaid was bowled by William Vause for 37 (22 balls) 249-9, Dom Jackson 6no (11 balls) and Chris Brookes 0no (1 ball) saw the visitors close on 250-9 in their 50 overs.
The bowling for the home team was Jake Durnell 3-82 from 12 overs, Jonathan Millward 2-22 off 13, Connor Rutland 2-55 from 10 and William Vause 1-31 off 7
Luke Platt and Joshua Mullin opened for the hosts and gave them a good start reaching 37 when both were out, Mullin went first caught by Simon Kerrigan off Jon Fenton for 19 (29 balls), 37-1, Platt went lbw to Chris Brookes for 12 (22 balls) 37-2
Connor Rutland and Zac Christie were the new batsmen, the total was 49 when Chris Brookes took two wickets in two balls, first Christie caught behind by Mike Sambell for 2 (18 balls) 49-3, then next ball James Whitehead lbw for 0 49-4
Simon Kerrigan trapped THomas Turner lbw for 0 (4 balls) 50-5, Chris Brookes bowled William Vause for 0 (8 balls) 51-6. Rhys Morgan became Simon Kerrigan's second victim caught by Matthew Smith for 0 (10 balls) 54-7
Connor Rutland was wicket number eight caught by Dom Jackson off Sonal Dinusha for 15 (37 balls) 58-8, Jake Durnell went two balls later bowled by Dinusha for 0 58-9.
Matt Greenall hit Sonal Dinusha for two sixes but was then bowled by him, he made 12 (7 balls) Jon Fenton was 1no (11 balls) as Longridge were 71 all out in 24.4 overs
The Fulwood & Broughton wicket takers were Chris Brookes 4-11 from 11 overs, Sonal Dinusha 3-13 off 1.4, Simon Kerrigan 2-4 from 6 and Jon Fenton 1-35 off 6
Penrith v Garstang
Penrith won the toss at Tynefield Park and invited the visitors to bat first, Michael Wellings and Michael Walling opened, the total was 13 when Wellings was out lbw to Greg Hall for 5 (14 balls) 13-1
Punit Bisht was in at three but on 4 (17 balls) he was bowled by Jack White,30-2, Mark Walling replaced Bisht and with Michael Walling had doubled the score when he was caught behind by Alister Craig off Bruce Glendinning for 18 (21 balls) 60-2
Ryan Pearson was Michael Walling's next partner and with their partnership on 82 Walling was caught behind by Alister Craig off Jack White for 68 (98 balls), 142-4, Tom Wells came in at 6 but lost Pearson caught James Ellis off Greg Cameron for 43 (69 balls) 162-5
Danny Gilbert joined Wells but with only four runs added Wells was caught behind by Alister Craig off Greg Hall for 16 (18 balls) 166-6, Ian Walling was next in but was soon out bowled by Greg Cameron for 0 (6 balls) 173-7
Matthew Crowther became Gilbert's next partner and they took the score to 201 when Gilbert was caught and bowled by Jack White for 27 (32 balls) 201-8, White next ball had Ben Woodruff lbw for 0 201-9
Jack White closed the innings on 216 in 49.2 overs by bowling Matthew Crowther for 21 (20 balls) with Jacob Proctor 0no (2 balls)
The Penrith wicket takers were Jack White 5-31 from 12.2 overs, Greg Cameron 2-47 off 12, Greg Hall 2-63 from 13 and Bruce Glendinning 1-35 off 4
The visitors reply got off to a disastrous start losing three wickets with the total on 1, Ian Walling was the destroyer having Eddie Robson lbw for 0 (9 balls) 1-1, next Ollie Greenwood bowled for 0 (4 balls) 1-2 and finally trapping James Bowman lbw for 0 (2 balls) 1-3
Asher Hart and Jack White began the task of rebuilding the innings and had taken the score to 55 when White was bowled by Punit Bisht for 23 (49 balls) 55-4, Greg Cameron was in next but fell lbw to Punit Bish for 1 (13 balls) 61-5
Punit Bisht then accounted for next man in Greg Hall bowled for 2 (4 balls) 69-6, Penrith were staring defeat in the face when Alister Craig joined Hart but the two battled to save the match. Their partnership was 62 when Craig was bowled by Punit Bisht for 32 (45 balls) 131-7
Danny Gilbert was brought back into the attack and finished off the Penrith innings with a hat-trick, first Asher Hart was caught by Punit Bisht for 65 (126 balls) 131-8, next ball James Ellis lbw for 0 131-9 and the hat-trick ball Bruce Glendinning lbw for 0 131 all out in 42.3 overs
For Garstang Punit Bisht took 4-33 from 11 overs, Danny Gilbert 3-26 off 11.3 (hat-trick) and Ian Walling 3-29 from 10
St Annes v Netherfield
Netherfield won the toss at Vernon Road and put the hosts into bat, Tom Higson and Luke Jardine opened with a partnership of 31 when Jardine was bowled by Louis Backhouse for 14 (24 balls) 31-1
In at three was Yohan De Silva but he lost Higson caught by Bradley Earl off Samuel Medhurst for 32 (43 balls) 51-2, Lukman Vahaluwala replaced Higson but when he had made 15 (33 balls) he was stumped by Finlay Richardson off Ashutosh Singh, 78-3
Nathan Bolus came in at 4 and with De Silva moved the total to 121 when De Silva was caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Ashutosh Singh for 44 (91 balls) 121-4, Andy Drake joined Bolus and they took the score to 142 when both were out, Drake was bowled by Daniel Bermet for 11 (23 balls), 142-5, then Bolus bowled by Ashutosh Singh for 24 (47 balls) 142-6
The new batsmen were Nathan Bend and Alex Bradley, Breadley was run out by Josh Dixon for 8 (8 balls) 161-7, Mitch Bolus quickly followed caught and bowled by Ashutosh Singh for 3 (5 balls) 172-8
Ashutosh Singh claimed his fifth wicket that of Nathan Bend 26 (22 balls) caught by Samuel Medhurst 185-9. James Bradley 1no (4 balls) and Matthew Yeadon 1no (1 ball) saw the hosts close on 186-9 in their 50 overs

Daniel Bernet replaced Earl but was bowled by Lukman Vahaluwala for 0 (5 balls) 76-6, Ollie Wileman was next in but fell lbw to Tom Higson for 4 (5 balls) 81-7
