The Northern Cricket League Review

It is the 3rd round of matches for the Northern Premier Cricket League and Chorley with the only 100% record go top with their win over Kendal, there were wins for Blackpool, Netherfield and Lancaster.
At Vernon Road St Annes Longridge had a winning draw with both sides on 156- 9.
Fulwood & Broughton had a winning draw at Vernon Carus

Blackpool v Garstang

Garstang won the toss at Stanley Park and invited the hosts to bat first, Tomas King and Kasim Munir opened but with only six on the board Tomas King was bowled by Ian Walling for 4 (14 balls) 6-1

Joshua Boyne replaced King but he lost Munir bowled by Ian Walling for 15 (30 balls), 21-2. Richard Gleeson was in next and with Boyne they had to work hard for their runs.

When the score reached 46 disaster struck for the home side as they lost three wickets, firstly Boyne was bowled by Rizwan Patel for 11 (65 balls) 46-3, followed next ball by Patel bowling Jake Muncaster for 0, 46-4. Richard Gleeson was next lbw to Danny Gilbert for 13 (42 balls) 46-5

Blackpool were in trouble and Ben Howarth and Matthew Grindley dug in and they endeavoured to turn the game around, their partnership was 28 when Howarth was trapped lbw by Rizwan Patel for 19 (44 balls) 74-6

Alex Ryder joined Grindley but with only seven more runs added Grindley was caught by Ian Walling off Joel Anthony Derham for 12 (41 balls) 81-7.
Arran Lewin joined the fight and with Ryder moved the score onto 107 when Ryder was caught by Michael Wellings off Joel Anthony Derham for 18 (39 balls), 107-8

Paul Danson came in at 10 and with Lewin saw the hosts to the close finnishing on 114-8 in their 50 overs, Lewin undefeated on 13 (27 balls) and Danson on 3 (5 balls)

Rizwan Patel took most wickets with 3-36 from 15 overs supported by Ian Walling 2-24 off 15, Joel Anthony Derham 2-25 from 8 and Danny Gilbert 1-26 off 12

Michael Wellings and Michael Walling opened and had reached 17 when Walling was trapped lbw by Richard Gleeson for 0 (18 balls), 17-1. Punit Bisht joined Wellings.

The visitors were going very nicely until the introduction of Jamie Thomson into the attack, He took the prize wicket of Punit Bisht caught by Joshua Boyne for 13 (37 balls) 50-2, next he bowled Mark Walling first ball for 0, 50-3

The problems for Garstang were compounded with Michael Wellings falling caught by Kasim Munir off Alex Ryder for 36 (56 balls) 50-4. Ryder struck two runs later bowling Tom Wells for 1 (10 balls) 52-5

Jamie Thomson took his third wicket that of Ryan Pearson caught by Joshua Boyne for 1 (10 balls) 52-6. Things went from bad to worse with only five runs added Thomson claimed three wickets.

He trapped Matthew Crowther lbw for 4 (5 balls) 57-7, next he bowled Danny Gilbert for 0 (2 balls) 57-8 then bowled Joel Anthony Derham for 0 (3 balls) 57 9

Ian Walling and Rizwan Patel were fighting a losing battle and with the score on 74 the visitors were all out for 74 in 28.1 overs, Walling bowled by Thomson for 10 (18 balls) with Rizwan Patel 8no (7 balls)

Jamie Thomson's figures were 7.1 overs 4 maidens 8 runs 7 wickets with Alex Ryder 2-16 from 5 and Richard Gleeson 1-28 off 9

Chorley v Kendal

Kendal won the toss at Windsor Park and decided to bat first, Joseph Dodds and Darren Nightingale opened but were separated on 13 with Dodds being run out by Sam Steeple for 2 (15 balls), 13-1

Harry Lee replaced Dodds and with Nightingale took the score to 32 when he was caught by Roshen Silva for 1 (19 balls) 32-2. Rongsen Jonathan came in at four but lost Nightingale lbw to Will Moulton for 23 (43 balls) 48-3

Next in was Sam Fletcher who fell lbw to Will Moulton for 0 (7 balls) 60-4, Sam Steeple then bowled Rongsen Jonathan for 12 (28 balls) 60-5.

Two runs were added then the wheels came off for the visitors as they lost four wickets without addition, first Chris Miller was caught by Keiran McCullagh off Will Moulton for 2 (6 balls) 62-6, next James Park was bowled by Sam Steeple for 0 (3 balls), 62-7, Paul Dodds was next out caught by Andrew Holdsworth off Will Moulton for 0 (6 balls) 62-8. the fourth man to be out was Kuldeep Singh lbw to Sam Steeple for 0 (6 balls) 62-9

Kendal were bowled out for 65 in 24.4 overs when Matthew Park was caught and bowled by Sam Steeple 3 (10 balls) with Mike Dugdale 0no (6 balls).

The Kendal destroyers were Will Moulton 4-8 from 4 overs, Sam Steeple 4-17 off 5.4 and Edwin Moulton 1-13 from 7

Andrew Holdsworth and Louis Johnson opened for the home side but had to work hard for any runs, with the total on 13 Holdsworth was caught behind by Sam Fletcher off Kuldeep Singh for 5 (25 balls) 13-1

Kuldeep Singh struck again bowling Louis Johnson for 2 (39 balls) 14-2, the two new batsmen Harry Barclay and Roshen Silva took over but with the score on 32 Silva was caught by Paul Dodds off Matthew Park for 13 (27 balls), 32-3

Alfie Dobson replaced Sila but lost his partner Barclay caught behind by Sam Fletcher off Kuldeep Singh 4 (39 balls). 36-4. Edwin Moulton was the next batsman in and with Dobson were made to fight for every run by the Kendal attack. with victory in sight Chris Miller trapped Edwin Moulton lbw for 9 (7 balls) 58-5

Joseph Tiffin joined Dobson and they saw the hosts home on 66-5 in 38.5 overs with Dobson 14no (55 balls) and Tiffin 2no (3 balls)

Kuldeep Singh took 3-22 from 15 overs with Matthew Park 1-12 off 15 and Chris Miller 1-13 from 7

Leyland v Netherfield

Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and invited the visitors to bat first, Ben Barrow and Josh Dixon opened with a partnership of 25 when Barrow was bowled by Kurtis Watson for 17 (27 balls) 25-1

Lee Hogg came in at three and with Dixon moved the total to 52 when he was caught by James Critchley off Karl Cross for 14 (32 balls) 52-2, next in Ashutosh Singh and with Dixon took the score to 103 when Dixon was caught by James Rounding off Iain Critchley for 34 (84 balls) 103-3

John Mason joined Singh but when he had made 13 (20 balls) he was trapped lbw by Iain Critchley, 130-4, Bradley Earl was at five but was soon out caught by Nasir Nawaz for 0 (7 balls) 138-5.

Nasir Nawaz took the proze wicket of Ashtosh Singh caught by Ian Farrington for 53 (74 balls) 141-6, Daniel Bernet and Isaac Medhurst put on 21 when Bernet became Critchley's next victim caught by Joe Shacleton for 15 (15 b aslls) 162-7

The last two wickets to fall were by Iain Critchley, Isaac Medhurst stumped by Alex Williams for 10 (27 balls) 187-8, then having Aaron Stephens lbw on the last ball of the innings for 0 (2 balls), Netherfield 189-9 in 50 overs

Iain Critrchley took 6-41 from 13overs, Kurtis Watsoon 1-18 off 6, Nasir Nawaz 1-31 from 5 and Karl Cross 1-41 off 15

James Rounding anf James Critchley got the hosts off to a good start with 42 on the board when Critchley was caught by Bradley Earl off John Mason for 15 (30 balls) 42-1

John Mason then took two quick and important wickets, firstly Kurtis Watson lbw for 4 (24 balls) 64-2, two balls later Nasir Nawaz caught by Ben Barrow for 0, 64-3. Ashtosh Singh then had James Rounding caught behind by Aaron Stephens for 45 (59 balls) 66-4

Karl Cross and Andrew Makinson tried to regain some momentum but Daniel Bernet had Makinson caught behind by Aaron Stephens for 6 (20 balls) 85-5. Ian Farrington joined Cross and they tried to save the game but on 101 Cross was lbw to Oli Wileman for 19 (54 balls) 101-6

Iain Critchley was in next but became Wileman's second victim caught by Lee Hogg for 4 (3 balls) 107-7, Michael Birchall was next out caught and bowled by Daniel Bernet for 6 (16 baslls) 124-8.

The visitors sensed victory when Ian Farrington was caught by Isaac Medurst off Ashtosh Singh fo 23 (72 balls), 124-9. Victory came two runs later when Leyland were all out for 126 in 49.1 overs with James Shackleton being caught by Ben Barrow off Ashtosh Singh for 2 (5 balls). Alex Williams was 0no

The wickets were shared by the Netherfield bowlers, John Mason 3-13 from 7 overs, Ashtosh Singh 3-27 off 12.1, Oli Wileman 2-14 from 5 and Daniel Bernet 2-18 from 14

Penrith v Lancaster

Lancaster won the toss at Tynefield Park and asked the hosts to bat first, Penrith got off to a terrible start losing both openers early on, Nicky Burns was bowled by Danny Lamb for 0 (7 balls) 0-1, his partner Asher Hart followed by the same route bowled by Lamb for 0 (9 balls) 1-2

Alister Craig and Greg Cameron started the repair job but when their partnership reached 37 Cameron was caught by Danny Lamb off Tom Rose for 21 (45 balls), 38-3, James Bowman joined Craig and they had the scoreboard ticking over until Bowman was caught by David Steinson off Irfan Qayyum for 32 (78 balls) 104-4

Owen Jones was in next but on 5 (5 balls) he was stumped by Lee Sparks off David Steinson, 117-5. Two runs later disaster for the home side Alister Craig was bowled by Irfan Qayyum for 54 (110 balls) 119-6

David Steinson quickly accounted for new batsman Ollie Greenwood bowling him for 2 (7 balls) 121-7, James O'Brien was run out by Drupad Parmar for 4 (11 balls) 134-8. Tom Rose had Finlay Hansford caught by Danny Lamb for 11 (13 balls) 137-9

The final pair of James Ellis 3no (5 balls) and Bruce Glendinning 6no (10 balls) saw the home side to the close finnishing on 150-9 in their 50 overs

The Lancaster wicket takers were Danny Lamb 2-19 from 10 overs, Irfan Qayyum 2-27 off 12, David Steinson 2-41 from 15 and Tom Rose 2-52 off 13

The Lancaster reply was a bad one losing three quick wickets, Irfan Qayyum got a first baller out for 0 1-1, Steven Fisher was run out by James Bowman for 1 (13 balls) 10-2, James Ellis quickly made that 10-3 having Eddie Steinson caught by Finlay Hansford for 4 (16 balls)

New batsmen Danny Lamb and Laurie Atkinson took charge and steadily took the visitors to victory without further loss, Lamb was undefeated on 93 (96 balls) and Atkinson 35 (90 balls) finnishing on 151-3 in 35.3 overs.

James Ellis finnished with 2-10 from 7 overs

St Annes v Longridge

Longridge won the toss at Vernon Road and chose to bat first, Luke Platt and Joshua Mullin opened, There was only two runs on the board when Mullin was caught behind by James Bradley off Harry Birkman for 1 (8 balls) 2-1

Connor Rutland was in at three and had made 4 when he was bowled by Harry Birkman for 4 (6 balls)), 6-2. Zac Christie repaced Rutland but was soon out caught by Tom Higson off Lukman Vahaluwala for 0 (9 balls) 9-3

Luke Platt was joined by James Whitehead and the began the task of rebuilding the innings, batting sensibly they began to put the visitors in a strong position but Harry Birkman was brought back intothe attack and had immediate results having Luke Platt caught by Alex Brad.ley for 59 (127 balls) 117-4

Birkman struck two balls later taking the wicket of Thomas Turner caught and bowled for 0 (2 balls), 117-5. Tom Howartrh was in next but with twelve runs added he became Harry Birkman's fifth victim (his first 5 wicket haul in the league) caught by Tom Bradley for 5 (19 balls) 129-6

Rhys Morgan joined James Whitehead who was battling away, the took the score to 140 when Morgan was bowled by Lukman Vahaluwala for 3 (6 balls) 140-7. James Whitehead's long and fighting innings came to an end when he was caught by Andy Drake off Harry Birkman for 62 (108 balls) 147-8

Two runs had been added when Jake Durnell was run out by Nathan Bend for 1 (3 balls) 149-9. William Vause 4no (12 balls) and Jonathan Millward 2no (4 balls) saw the visitors close on 156-9 in their 50 overs

Harry Birkman took 6-36 from 13 overs with Lukman Vahaluwala 2-43 off 15

Tom Higson and Luke Jardine opened but were soon separated when Higson was caught by Joshua Mullin off William Vause for 4 (10 balls) 5-1. Vause struck again bowling Luke Jardine for 13 (24 balls) 23-2

Nathan Bolus became William Vause's third victim caught and bowled for 0 (2 balls) 29-3, Yohan De Silva and Lukman Vahaluwala had the task of getting the home side back in the match but with sixteen runs added Vahaluwala was caught by Jake Durnell off Connor Rutland for 5 (20 balls) 39-4

Rutland struck five runs later bowling De Silva for 19 (32 balls) 44-5. things did not improve for the home side when Alex Bradley was caught by Zac Christie off Connor Rutland for 1 (20 balls) 49-6

One run had been added when Rutland had Andy Drake caught by Rhys Morgan for 4 (13 balls), 50-7. Nathan Bend was Connor Rutland's fifth victim caught by Zac Christie for for 10 (18 balls), 65-8

St Annes were now staring defeat in the face with over ninety runs required and only nine, ten jack remaining, Tom Bradley and James Bradley set about their task keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Their achievement was to take the score to within ten runs of their goal.

Tom Bradley fell caught by Zac Christie off William Vause for 49 (76 balls), 146-9. Harry Birkman came in at no11 , the last over was bowled by William Vause, three runs or one wicket to claim victory, Birkman took one off the first ball, there were four dots then Bradley took an single off the last ball to close the innings on 156-9

James Bradley was undefeated on 34 (83 balls) and Harry Birkman 7 (4 balls). The result was a winning draw to the visitors. (A tie is when the scores are level but the team batting second are all out)

The Longridge wicket takers were Connor Rutland 5-33 from 15 and William Vause 4-48 off 12

Vernon Carus v Fulwood & Broughton

Fulwood and Broughton batted first at Factory Road, Rob Dingle and Mike Sambell opened with a partnership of 17 when Dingle was caught behind by Bob Bridges off Matthew Timms for 13 (27 balls), 17-1

Lewis Wellings joined Sambell, Sambell fell bowled by Max Livesey for 8 (28 balls), 21-2, Zach Proctor replaced Sambell and had a partnership of 40 when he was out caught behind by Bob Bridges off Ben Thomas for 14 (24 balls), 61-3

Lewis Wellings was the next to fall lbw to Ben Thomas for 35 (61 balls), 72-4, Sonal Dinusha and Jon Fenton knuckled down and moved the score onto 142 when Fenton was trapped lbw by Matthew Timms for 30 (55 balls) 142-5

Matthew Timms bowled Lewis Dingle first ball for 0, 142-6, Chris Brookes joined Dinusha and they put on 27 runs when Brookes fell caught by Christian Ash off Max Liversey for 19 (17 balls) 169-7

Dom Jackson was in next but was run out by Bob Bridges for 5 (6 balls) 177-8, Muhammed Zaid came in at 10 but lost his partner Dinusha run out by Jamie Rigby for 54 (64 balls) 201-9

James Lupton joined Zaid and they saw the visitors to the close of their innings on 227-9 in 50 overs with Muhammed Zaid 39no (17 balls)(3x4 3x6) and Lupton 2no (5 balls)

Matthew Timms took 3-52 from 15 overs, Ben Thomas 2-52 0ff 11 and Max Livesey 2-77 from 15

Yasin Patel and Wes Royle opened, Patel fell lbw to Chris Brookes for 0 (3 balls) 0-1, Jamie Rigby replaced Patel and with Royle took the score to 42 when he was caught by Dom Jackson off Sonal Dinusha for 13 (44 balls) 42-2

Christian Ash came in next but lost Wes Royle caught by James Lupton off Dom Jackson for 39 (64 balls) 56-3, James McDonagh joined Ash and they put on 18 runs when Ash was caught by Dom Jackson off Sonal Dinusha for 8 (29 balls) 74-4

Bob Bridges joined McDonagh and their partnership was 23 when Bridges was caught by Sonal Dinusha off Dom Jackson for 9 (26 balls) 97-5. Dom Jackson claimed his third victim bowling James McDonagh for 30 (41 balls) 106-6,

Ben Duerden was out on the same score caught by Sonal Dinusha off Zach Proctor for 7 (12 balls) 106-7, Ben Thomas was run out by Mike Sambell for 1 (8 balls). There were nearly twelve overs to go so David Sullivan and Matthew Timms dug in to try and save the game.

Timms fell bowled by Jon Fenton for 25 (28 balls) 142-9, Max Livesey joined Sullivan and they saw the home team to the close of their innings on 159-9 in their 50 overs

The Fulwood & Broughton wicket takers were Dom Jackson 3-44 from 15 overs, Sonal Dinusha 2-48 off 15, Chris Brookes 1-154 from 8 and Zach Proctor 1-22 off 3
