The Northern Cricket League Review

Congratulations to Garstang CC Champions of the Northern Premier Cricket League 2022

It is the 20th round of matches for the Northern Premier Cricket League.
The win by Garstang at Longridge gives them the title, There were wins for Blackpool, Chorley, Fulwood & Broughton and Netherfield.
Vernon Carus have a winning draw against Penrith

The teams fighting to avoid relegation are Penrith and Lancaster with the outcome in Penrith's own hands

Fulwood & Broughton v Lancaster

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and chose to bat first, Matthew Rosbottom and Matthew Smith opened, They had an opening stand of 48 broken by Kieran Moffat having Matthew Smith stumped by Lee Sparks for 23 (24 balls), 48-1

Sonal Dinusha came in at three and with Matthew Rosbottom steadily moved the score on until Matthew Rosbottom was caught behind by Lee Sparks off Dilshan Lahiru for 28 (63 balls) 92-2, Zach Proctor was in next but on reaching 11 (8 balls) he was lbw by Ben Simm, 105-3

Mike Sambell joined Dinusha and became Ben Simm's next victim caught by Dilshan Lahiru for 10 (23 balls) 121-4, Muhammad Zaid replaced Sambell but soon became another wicket for Ben Simm caught by Liam Moffat for 5 (7 balls) 134-5

Sonal Dinusha's next partner was Ben Parkinson and they moved the total to 175 when two wickets fell, Ben Parkinson was bowled by Dilshan Lahiru for 28 (26 balls), 175-6, new batsman Lewis Wellings lasted only three balls being lbw to Dilshan Lahiru for 0, 175-7

Jon Fenton came to the wicket but soon became wicket number four for Ben Simm caught behind by Lee Sparks for 1 (4 balls), 176-8, Sonal Dinusha had been accumalating steadily and in Khalil Patel found a partner to take the score past the two hundred mark, however in the final over Khalil Patel was stumped by Lee Sparks off Dilshan Lahiru for 6 (25 balls) 213-9

Dom Jackson was in at number eleven and took a single off the last ball to see the hosts close on 214-9 in their 50 overs with Jackson 1no and Sonal Dinusha 85 no (111 balls)

For Lancaster Dilshan Lahiru took 4-50 from 15 overs with Ben Simm 4-70 off 15 and Kieran Moffat 1-31 from 10

Laurie Atkinson and Steven Fisher opened for the visitors and got them off to a good start, their partnership was broken when Laurie Atkinson was stumped by Mike Sambell off Sonal Dinusha for 37 (57 balls) 71-1

Dilshan Lahiru came in at three but fell to Sonal Dinusha caught by Khalil Patel for 12 (16 balls) 89-2, Jamie Heywood joined Steven Fisher, disaster struck for the visitors with Steven Fisher run out by Jon Fenton for 45 (89 balls) 102-3

Eddie Steinson was in next and was one of two wickets that fell on 106, he was the first to go caught by Muhammad Zaid off Dom Jackson for 0 (4 balls) 106-4, next out was Jamie Heywood caught by Khalil Patel off Lewis Wellings for 11 (16 balls) 106-5

The two new batsmen were Kieran Moffat and Ben Simm, they worked together and took the score to 149 when Kieran Moffat was bowled by Khalil Patel for 14 (26 balls), 149-6, Lee Sparks joined Ben Simm but with only five runs added Sparks was caught by Matthew Smith 0ff Sonal Dinusha for 2 (4 balls) 154-7

Jack Lord replaced Lee Sparks, Khalil Patel then removed any hope of a Lancaster recovery by bowling Ben Simm for 32 (37 balls) 154-8, Liam Moffat was next in but Khalil Patel bowled him second ball for 0, 154-9,

Chris Beales was last man and quickly fell caught by Zach Proctor off Sonal Dinusha for 0 (9 balls) as Lancaster were bowled out for 155 in 44.4 overs with Jack Lord 1no (8 balls)

Sonal Dinusha lead the way taking 4-36 from 12.4 overs, Khalil Patel 3-33 off 9, Lewis Wellings 1-15 from 3 and Dom Jackson 1-46 off 13

Leyland v Chorley

Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and invited the visitors to bat first, Andrew Holdsworth and Will Moulton opened, Kurtis Watson claimed an early wicket Andrew Holdsworth caught behind by Alex Williams for 5 (18 balls) 10-1

Will Moulton was not far behind his fellow opener caught by LLoyd Tennant off Ross Bretherton for 8 (31 balls), 14-2, Roshen Silva and Harry Barclay were the new batsmen but on reaching 37 Roshen Silva was caught behind by Alex Williams off Ben Weaver for 7 (44 balls) 37-3

Alexander Howarth joined Harry Barclay and they were made to work hard for their runs, their partnership was 76 broken by Iain Critchley having Harry Barcley caught by James Rounding for 43 (102 balls) 113-4

Edwin Moulton was next in only to be trapped lbw by Iain Critchley for 8 (14 balls) 128-5, Joseph Tiffin replaced Moulton and suffered the same fate lbw to Iain Critchley for 1 (3 balls) 130-6. Sam Steeple was Howarth's next partner but lost Howarth caught by Ross Bretherton off Iain Critchley for 65 (67 balls) 153-7

James Dunn joined Sam Steeple and they saw the visitors to 182-7 in their 50 overs with Steeple 10no (17 balls) and Dunn 10no (11 balls)

The wicket takers for Leyland were Iain Critchley 4-54 from 11 overs, Kurtis Watson 1-14 off 12, Ross Bretherrton 1-27 from 15 and Ben Weaver 1-37 off 5

James Rounding and James Critchley opened for the hosts but both fell to Edwin Moulton, James Rounding was bowled for 0 (5 balls) 0-1, Crictchley was trapped lbw for 2 (7 balls) 5-2,

Kurtis Watson amd Lloyd Tennant were the two new batsman, Edwin Moulton calimed his third victim Lloyd Tennant bowled fo 0 (6 balls) 13-3. Ross Bretherton joined Watson and their partnership was 60 when Sam Steeple had Kurtis Watson lbw for 41 (77 balls) 73-4

Karl Cross replaced Watson and with Bretherton took the score passed the hundred only for Ross Bretherton to be caught and bowled by Sam Steeple for 47 (87 balls) 109-5, Andrew Makinson was next in but on 7 (16 balls) he was caught behind by Harry Barclay off James Dunn, 130-6

Iain Critchley was Karl Cross's next partner but the return of Edwin Moulton into the attack saw him claim his fourth victim Karl Cross caught behind by Harry Barclay for 31-(42 balls) 135-7,

The hosts were now trying to save the game with only ten overs remaining but Sam Steeple swung the game in the visitors way taking two wickets, first one out was Iain Critchley caught by Andrew Holdsworth for 5 (8 balls) 139-8, Andrew Jacques followed caught behind by Harry Barclay for 6 (7 balls 145-9

Ian Oakes claimed victory for the visitors by bowling Ben Weaver for 2 (15 balls) as Leyland were 145 all out in 44.3 overs with Alex Williams 0no

For the visitors Edwin Moulton took 4-28 from 10 overs, Sam Steeple 4-36 off 11, Ian Okes 1-15 from 4.3 and James Dunn 1-23 off 4

Longridge v Garstang

Garstang won the toss at the Newsham Memorial Ground and put the hosts into bat, Luke Platt and Joshua Mullin opened for the hosts but on 14 Ian Walling bowled Luke Platt for 9 (6 balls) 14-1,

Tom Howarth came in at number three, Ian Walling struck again having Joshua Mullin caught by Matthew Crowther for 10 (17 balls). next in was Zac Christie, runs were hard to come by and the introduction of Danny Gilbert into the attack resulted in him trapping Tom Turner lbw for 10 (22 balls)

The new batsman was Hugo Croft but unfortunately for the hosts he was run out by Matthew Crowther for 0 (15 balls) 42-4, things did not imprrove for the home side with Zac Christie bowled by Danny Gilbert for 14 (34 runs) 45-5

James Whitehead replaced Christie and battled until Danny Gilbert bowled him for 2 (27 balls) 50-6, Tom Turner's new partner was Ollie Mullin and they fought to rebuild the hosts innings and took the score past the hundred when Ollie Mullin was run out for 11 (50 balls) 102-7

Jake Durnell joined Turner, as often happens after a long stand when one partner goes the other quickly follows as in this case with Tom Turner caught behind by Punit Bisht off Ian Walling for 45 (41 balls) 102 8, Jonathan Millward came to the wicket but was soon out lbw to Joel Anthony Derham for 0 (6 balls) 106-9

Last man in was Caleb Bradford who was bowled by Ian Walling for 0 (4 balls) as Longridge were bowled out for 107 in 39-5 overs with Jake Durnell 5no (7 balls)

The wicket takers were Ian Walling 4-38 from 13.1 overs, Danny Gilbert 3-17 off 10 and Joel Anthony Derham 1-31 from 12

Garstang went out to bat knowing if they won today they would be League Champions, they did not get off to a good start losing both openers early, Michael Wellings was caught by Luke Platt off Jonathan Millward for 8 (11 balls) 9-1

Michael Walling followed lbw to Ollie Mullin for 0 (!2 balls) 13-2, Punit Bisht and Mark Walling took on the task to push for victory, things were going nicely until Mark Walling was caught behind by Tom Turner off Jake Durnell for 26 (42 balls) 64-3

Ryan Pearson joined Punit Bisht and they took the visitors within three runs of victory when Punit Bisht was stumped by Tom Turner off Caleb Bradford for 51 (53 balls),105-4. Matthew Crowther Ono came to the wicket to witness Ryan Pearson 15no (25 balls) hit the winning runs and claim the Northern Premier League Championship as Garstang closed on 109-4 in 24.3 overs

Jake Durnell took 2-13 from 4 overs, Ollie Mullin 1-23 off 6 and Jonathan Millward 1-30 from 10

Netherfield v Kendal

Netherfield won the toss at Parkside Road and asked the visitors to bat first, Paul Dodds and Chris Miller opened, Paul Dodds was the first to go lbw to Isaac Medhurst for 2 (17 balls) 8-1, Chris Miller followed by the same route lbw to Isaac Medhurst for 6 (20 balls) 13-2

Rongsen Jonathan and Oliver Tyson were the new batsmen, Matt Jackson broke the partnership bowling Oliver Tyson for 6 (17 balls), 30-3, Sagar Udeshi was brought into the attack and he bowled Jonathan Rongsen for 18 (32 balls) 44-5

Sam Fletcher and James Fleming dug in but were parted by Sagar Udeshi having Fleming caught by Isaac Medhurst for 3 (22 balls) 52-5, Joseph Dodds and Sam Fletcher battled to rebuild the innings until Sam Fletcher was stumped by Ben Barrow off Sagar Udeshi for 23 (54 balls) 70-6

Kuldeep Singh replaced Fletcher and was Sagar Udeshi's fourth victim bowled for 0 (6 balls) 70-7, Joseph Dodd's fighting innings came to a close stumped by Ben Barrow off Daniel Bernet for 6 (53 balls) 74-8

Daniel Bernet took his second wicket Matthew Park lbw for 3 (18 balls) 75-9, Sagar Udeshi claimed his fifth wicket Toby Tyson lbw for 0 (6 balls) as Kendal were all out for 75 in 40 .5 overs with Alec Carradus 0no (2 balls)

The Netherfield hero was Sagar Udeshi with 5-10 from 12.5 overs, Daniel Bernet took 2-11 off 7, Isaac Medhurst 2-15 from 6 and Matt Jackson 1-21 off 8

The hosts reply did not get off to a good stsrt, Bradley Earl was caught by Rongsen Jonathan off Kuldeep Singh for 4 (11 balls), 4-1, Ben Barrow came in next but Toby Tyson had him lbw for 5 (8 balls) 12-2

Lee Hogg joined Josh Dixon and were going along nicely until Josh Dixon was bowled by Matthew Park for 25 (67 balls), 57-3, Luke Atkinson replaced Dixon and with Hogg saw the host's home on 79-3 in 25.3 overs. Lee Hogg was undefeated on 36 (57 balls) with Luke Atkinson 2no (10 balls)

The three Kendal wicket takers were Toby Tyson 1-15 from 8 overs, Matthew Park 1-20 off 4.3 and Kuldeep Singh 1-23 from 8

St Annes v Blackpool

St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and invited the visitors to bat first, Tomas King and Jake Muncaster gave Blackpool a good start with a partnership of 69 broken by Tom Higson having Tomas King caught by Ryan Birkman for 44 (39 balls) 69-1

Joshua Boyne came in at three but soon lost his partner Jake Muncaster lbw to Yohan De Silva for 27 (60 balls) 81-2, Okert Erasmus replaced Muncaster but on reaching 19 (26 balls) he was caught behind by James Bradley off Lukman Vahaluwala , 109-4

Dylan Henshall was the new batsman and with Boyne took the score to 130 when Lukman Vahaluwala struck again bowling Boyne for 25 (42 balls) 130-4, Ben Howarth joined Henshall, Nathan Bolus was brought into the attack and in his third over had Ben Howarth caught by Yohan De Silva for 12 (24 balls) 160-5

Matthew Grindley came in next but on 10 (16 balls) he was bowled by Curtis Fletcher, 173-6, Alex Ryder was Dylan Henshall's next partner, Lukman Vahaluwala returned to the attack and with his second ball bowled Dylan Henshall for 54 (56 balls) 199-7

Paul Danson joined Alex Ryder, the next wicket to fall was Alex Ryder caught by Yohan De Silva off Curtis Fletcher for 10 (121 balls) 207-8, Steven Mercer replaced Ryder and was Lukman Vahaluwal's fourth victim bowled for 5 (5 balls) 217-9

Curtis Fletcher closed the Blackpool innings on 222 all out in 49.3 overs by bowling Jamie Thomson for 1 (5 balls), Paul Danson was 10no (13 balls)

Lukman Vahaluwala took 4-79 from 15 overs, Curtis Fletcher 3-50 off 13.3, Yohan De Silva 1-24 from 5, Tom Higson 1-32 off 11 and Nathan Bolus 1-33 from 5

Tom Higson and Yohan De Silva opened for the hosts and gave them a good start until Okert Erasmus had Tom Higson caught behind by Ben Howarth for 37 (68 balls) 53-1, Lukman Vahaluwala came in at three but lost Yohan De Silva bowled by Joshua Boyne for 26 (62 balls), 65-2

The incoming batsman was Nathan Bolus and with Lukman Vahaluwala put on 34 runs, unfortunately for the home side Nathan Bolus was run out by Jake Muncaster for 9 (22 balls) 99-3,

Nathan Armstrong replaced Bolus and the partnership was blossoming, but the introduction of Steven Mercer into the attack changed things quickly, Nathan Armstrong was caught by Dylan Henshall off Mercer for 19 (23 balls), 131-4, then he bowled Nathan Bend for 0 (2 balls) 132-5

Andy Drake joined Vahaluwala but disaster for the home team as Lukman Vahaluwala was bowled by Steven Mercer for 41 (52 balls) 134-6, Alex Bradley was next in but on reaching 9 (13 balls) he was caught and bowled by Joshua Boyne, 155-7

There were only four overs to go when Joshua Boyne had Andy Drake caught by Dylan Henshall for 21 (30 balls) 164-8, Curtis Fletcher and James Bradley took the match into the final over when Okert Erasmus bowled James Bradley for 1 (9 balls) 168-9

Last man in was Ryan Birkman who was out first ball bowled Okert Erasmus for 0 to give victory to the visitors with three balls to go as St Annes were 168 all out

The Blackpool wicket takers were Steven Mercer 3-24 from 5 overs, Okert Erasmus 3-38 off 14.3 and Joshua Boyne 3-44 from 14

Vernon Carus v Penrith

Penrith won the toss at the Vernon Carus Sports and Social club and asked the hosts to bat first, Jack Airey and Wes Royle opened and on reaching 34 Jack Airey was caught behind by Alister Craig off Shrikant Mundhe for 13 (40 balls) 34-1

Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage was in at three and with Royle were moving the score along until Wes Royle was caught by Shrikant Mundhe off Asher Hart for 32 (59 bslls) 80-2, Matthew Stevenson was next in and thirty two runs had been added when Stevenson was caught by Greg Cameron off Asher Hart for 23 (29 balls) 112-3

Christian Ash replaced Stevenson but lost his partner Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage caught by James Bowman off Asher Hart for 41 (41 balls) 112-4, Bob Bridges joined Christian Ash and they took the score to 148 when Ash was lbw to Shrikant Mundhe for 20 (14 balls) 148-5

Jamie Rigby was next in and became Asher Hart's fourth victim caught by Greg Cameron for 0 (6 balls) 151-6, Jacob Holland came in but lost Bob Bridges caught behind by Alister Craig off Greg Cameron for 23 (41 balls) 160-7

No 9 was Ben Thomas and with Jacob Holland added thirty runs their stand broken by Dylan Simpson bowling Ben Thomas for 4 (24 balls) 190-8, Kashif Jamil joined Holland and they saw the hosts to close on 234-8 in their 50 overs with Jacob Holland 51no (34 balls) and Kashif Jamil 10no (15 balls)

Asher Hart took 4-59 from 14 overs, Shrikant Mundhe 2-55 off 15, Dylan Simpson 1-22 from 5 and Greg Cameron 1-66 off 10

The visitors got off to a disastrous start losing both openers with olny four runs on the board, Nicky Burns was the first to go caught behiond by Bob Bridges off Jacob Holland for 4 (8 balls) 4-1, his opening partner Asher Hart was also caught behind by Bob Bridges but off the bowling of Matthew Timms for 0 (7 balls) 4-2

Owen Jones and Shrikant Mundhe set about rebuilding the innings, they were progressing nicely until Owen Jones became Matthew Timms second victim caught by Wes Royle for 26 (59 balls) 82-3, James Bowman was in next.

The introduction of Ben Thomas into the attack swung the game in the hosts favour, he had James Bowman caught by Wes Royle for 26 (33 balls) 129-4, Alister Craig joined Shrikant Mundhe and they kept the scoreboard ticking over until Ben Thomas bowed Craig for 11 (16 balls) 151-5

Greg Cameron was next in but soon became victim number three for Ben Thomas caught by Jamie Rigby for 2 (4 balls) 161-6, Sulosan Thiru joined Mundhe lasting only four balls lbw to Ben Thomas for 0 173-7

Dylan Simpson was Mundhe's next partner but was run out for 0 (5 balls) 179-8, There were four overs to go when disaster struck for the visitors as Shrikant Mundhe was caught by Christian Ash off Jacob Holland for 105 (138 balls) (15x4, 2x6), 194-9

James Ellis and Nathan were given the task to see the game out, they succeeded and Penrith closed on 204-9 in their 50 overs with James Ellis 7no (15 balls) and Nathan Ellwood 0no (12 balls)

Ben Thomas took 4-30 from 10 overs with Jacob Holland 2-44 off 15 and Matthew Timms 2-50 from 15
