The Northern Cricket League Review

It is the 17th round of matches for the Northern Premier Cricket League.
There were wins for Blackpool, Chorley, Fulwood & Broughton, Longridge and St Annes but league leaders Garstang only managing a wiining draw against Kendal

Fulwood & Broughon v Netherfield

Netherfield won the toss at the Highfield ground and chose to bat first, Jack Edgar and Josh Dixon opened and gave the visitors a brilliant start with a partnership of 98 broken by Sonal Dinusha bowling Edgar for 60 (77 balls) 98-1

Bradley Earl came in at three but on reaching 17 (23 balls) he was bowled by Jon Fenton , 126-2, Ben Barrow joined Dixon and their partnership off 66 was broken when Barrow was run out by Sonal Dinusha for 22 (39 balls) 188-3

Finlay Richardson replaced Barrow but was soon out stumped by Mike Sambell off Sonal Dinusha for 1 (3 balls) 189-4, Daniel Bernet joined Dixon and they kept the scoreboard ticking over until Sonal Dinusha claimed his third victim Josh Dixon for 89 (136 balls) 206-5

The new batsman was Ollie Wileman but he lost his partner Daniel Bernet caught by Ewen Mansford off Dom Jackson for 19 (14 balls) 216-6, next in was Louis Backhouse, Ollie Wileman was out caught by Matthew Smith off Sonal Dinusha for 3 (5 balls) on the last ball of the innings resulting in the visitors making 218-7 in their 50 overs with Louis Backhouse 1no (4 balls)

Sonal Dinusha took 4-63 off 15 overs, Jon Fenton 1-38 off 11 and Dom Jackson 1-67 from 15

The hosts opening pair of Ewen Mansford and Matthew Smith got the hosts off to a very good start with a partnership of 78 broken when Daniel Bernet had Mansford caught by Louis Backhouse for 19 (5 0 balls) 78-1

Coming in at three was Sonal Dinusha and with Matthew Smith put the hosts in a good positon until Louis Backhouse had Smith caught by Ben Barrow for 98 (110 balls) 161-2, Ben Rosbottom was next in but fell caught by Louis Backhouse off Daniel Bernet for 2 (19 balls) 167-3

Mike Sambell replaced Rosbottom, in the 40th over Louis Backhouse gave the hosts a fright taking three wickets in the over, first to go was Mike Sambell bowled for 3 (13 balls) 172-4. next ball he bowled Zach Proctor for 0 172-5 with the last ball of the over he took the prize wicket of Sonal Dinusha bowled for 45 (53 balls) 173-6

Muhammad Zaid and Lewis Wellings were the new batsmen, Backhouse claimed his fifth wicket having Lewis Wellings caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 1 ( 9 balls) 197-7. Jon Fenton joined Zaid, Muhammad Zaid took control and went on the attack to see the hosts home closing on 221-7 in 48 overs, he was 37no (27 balls) (3x4, 2x6) Jon Fenton was 9no (8 balls)

Louis Backhouse took 5-60 from 12 overs with Daniel Bernet 2-43 off 14

Footnote: Louis Backhouse was involved in all the wickets to fall the bowler in five and caught the other two

Kendal v Garstang

Kendal won the toss at Shap Road and invited the visitors to bat first, Michael Wellings and Michael Walling opened, Kuldeep Singh struck early bowling Michael Walling for 3 (17 balls) 13-1, he then had no3 Punit Bisht caught behind by Sam Fletcher for 7 (22 balls) 34-2

Mark Walling joined Wellings but soon lost his partner Wellings out caught behind by Sam Fletcher off Chris Miller for 22 (30 balls) 42-3, Ryan Pearson was Mark Walling's next partner and they slowly began to rebuild the innings, on 111 Pearson was bowled by Matthew Park for 24 (47 balls) 111-4

Matthew Crowther came to the wicket but soon lost Mark Walling caught and bowled by Rongsen Jonathan for 51 (112 balls) 119-5. Dan Curwen joined Crowther, they were both out cheaply, Matthew Crowther bowled by Rongsen Jonathan for 8 (20 balls) 126-6

Dan Curwen quickly followed caught by Rongsen Jonathan off Kuldeep Singh for 0 (4 balls) 127-7, Danny Gilbert and Ian Walling were the new batsmen and the were scoring nearly a run a ball until Ian Walling fell in the last over caught by Oliver Tyson off Toby Tyson for 17 (24 balls) 164-8

Danny Gilbert 30no (25 balls) saw the visitors to the close on 174-8 in their 50 overs, Joel Anthony Derham was 0no

The Kendal wicket takers were Kuldeep Singh 3-36 from 14 overs, Rongsen Jonathan 2-18 off 4, Matthew Park 1-31 from 6, Chris Miller 1-34 off 15 and Toby Tysaon 1-44 from 11

David Batty and Chris Miller opened for the hosts but lost David Batty caught by Michael Wellings off Ian Walling for 0 (5 balls) 8-1. Rongsen Jonathan was in at three and with Miller were steadily building the score

The score was 33 when disaster struck for the home team losing three wickets, first to go was Rongsen Jonathan lbw to Ian Walling for 14 (31 balls), 33-2, next to go was Chris Miller caught by Punit Bisht of Joel Anthony Derham for 17 (41 balls) 33-3

Joel Anthony Derham then had Terry Hunte caught by Mark Walling for 0 (3 balls) 33-4. Oliver Tyson and Sam Fletcher were given the task of stopping the rot but Joel Anthony Derham had other idea's, having Sam Fletcher caught by Dan Curwen for 0 (6 balls) 43-5, then bowling Harry Lee for 4 (11 balls) 49-6

The hosts were staring defeat in the face but Oliver Tyson and new batsman James Fleming battled to save the game, they had added 55 runs when Oliver Tyson was out lbw to Punit Bisht for 47 (78 balls) 104-7

Joel Anthony Derham claimed his fifth victim Kuldeep Singh caught by Ian Walling for 0 (6 balls) 111-8, Punit Bisht bowled Matthew Park for 2 (11 balls) 120-9.

There were nine overs remaing for the visitors to claim victory but the last pair of James Flemming 42no (76 balls) and Toby Tyson 11no (34 balls) saw the hosts to close on 146-9 in their 50 overs

Joel Anthony Derham took 5-55 from 15 overs, Punit Bisht 2-12 off 8 and Ian Walling 2-27 from 12

Lancaster v Chorley

Chorley won the toss at Lune Road and elected to bat first, Andrew Holdsworth and Will Moulton opened for the visitors, Andrew Holdsworth was out lbw to Liam Moffat for 6 (22 balls) 16-1

Roshen Silva came in at three and with Will Moulton steadily took the score to 85 when Will Moulton was bowled by Laurie Atkinson for 53 (103 balls) 88-2, Harry Barclay joined Silva but soon became Atkinson's second wicket caught by Eddie Steinson for 3 (13 balls) 103-3

Alfie Dobson replaced Barclay but was soon out caught and bowled by Liam Moffat for 1 (11 balls) 106-4, Alexander Howarth was Silva's next partner but on 5 (10 balls) he became Atkinson's third victim caught by David Steinson, 113-5

Next in was Edwin Moulton and with Roshen Silva saw the visitors close their innings in 159-5 in their 50 overs, Roshen Silva was undeated on 58 (128 balls) and Edwin Moulton 22no (21 balls)

Laurie Atkinson took 3-31 from 10 overs with Liam Moffat 2-46 off 15

The hosts had a terrible start losing three quick wickets and they never recovered. Laurie Atkinson was the first to go stumped by Harry Barclay off Edwin Moulton for 1 (10 balls) 2-1, fellow opener Steven Fisher quickly followd bowled by Edwin Moulton for 1 (21 balls) 3-2

Irfan Khan was in at three and was soon out becoming Edwin Moulton's third victim bowled for 5 (21 balls) 11-3, Eddie Steinson and Drupad Parmar were the new batsmen but were quicly separated by Ian Oakes having Drupad Parmar lbw for 0 (4 balls) 15-4

Ben Simm joined Steinson but with only ten runs added he was caught by Andrew Holdsworth off Ian Oakes for 7 (21 balls) 25-5, things did not improve for the hosts as Kieran Moffat was trapped lbw by Ian Oakes for 0 (2 balls) 28-6

Ian Oakes then claimed the wicket of the fighting Eddie Steinson caught behind by Harry Barclay for 10 (45 balls) 29-7, Sam Steeple bowled Liam Moffat for 0 (6 balls) 30-8

David Steinson and Lee Sparks showed some reisistence but Ian Oakes had Steinson caught behind by Harry Barclay for 6 (31 balls) 38-8, Edwin Moulton closed the hosts innings on 47 in 31 overs by bowling Chris Beales for 1 (7 balls), Lee Sparks was 9no (16 balls)

The Chorley wicket takers were Edwin Moulton 5-14 from 10 overs, Ian Oakes 4-6 off 7 and Sam Steeple 1-10 from 7

Longridge v Vernon Carus

Vernon Carus won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and invited the hosts to bat first. Luke Platt and Joshua Mullin were the openers, they had an opening partnership of 24 broken with Mullin caught behind by Bob Bridges off Jacob Holland for 8 (21 balls) 24-1

Tom Howarth was next in and with Platt they steadily took the score to 91, Tom Howarth was then caught by Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage off Ben Thomas for 26 (53 balls) 91-2. Zac Christie was the incoming batsman

Ben Thomas then accounted for Luke Platt having him caught behind by Bob Bridges for 56 (104 balls) 102-3. James Whitehead joined Zac Christie but on making 20 (24 balls) he was caught behind by Bob Bridges off Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage, 129-4

Tom Turner replaced Whitehead and his partnership with Christie was broken when he was caught by Matthew Timms off Jacob Hlland for 7 (13 balls) 164-5, disaster struck for the hosts with Zac Christie run out by Kashif Jamil for 37 (55 balls) 168-6

There were only five overs remaining and the hosts went after the runs, Rhys Morgan and William Vause came together but Vause was run out by Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage for 2 (4 balls) 171-7, Jake Durnell was the next man in and fell stumped by Bob Bridges off Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage for 7 (9 balls) 183-8

Rhys Morgan was out next lbw to Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage for 6 (10 balls) 188-9, the innings closed on 190 allout in 49.5 overs with Matt Greenall bowled by Jacob Holland for 2 (5 balls), Caleb Bradford was 1no (2 balls)

For Vernon Carus Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage took 3-37 from 13 overs, Jacob Holland 3-52 off12.5 and Ben Thomas 2-32 from 7

Jack Airey and Wes Royal opened for the visitors batting steadily they took the score to 24, Jake Durnell broke the partnership by bowling Jack Airey for 6 934 balls) 24-1, Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage was in at three and with Royle continued the steady progress until Jake Durnell had Wes Royle caught by Luke Platt for 26 (63 balls) 54-2

Bob Bridges was the next man in and had made 16 (29 balls) when he was caught behind by Tom Turner off Matt Greenall, 74-3, Christian Ash replaced Bridges but lost partner Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage lbw to Matt Greenall for 31 (44 balls) 89-4

Jamie Rigby joined Christian Ash but was soon out caught by Tom Howarth of Caleb Bradford for 1 (7 balls),94-5, Ben Duerden was the new batsman but lost Christian Ash caught by Tom Howarth off Matt Greenall for 12 (20 balls) 102-6

Jacob Holland was next in but only lasted three balls caught by Joshua Mullin off Caleb Bradford for 1, 103-7, things did not improve for the visitors with new batsman Ben Thomas bowled by Caleb Bradford for 1 (8 balls)105-8

Ben Duerden was the next to go caught behind by Tom Turner off Jake Durnell for 7 (9 balls) 113-9, the last pair of Matthew Timms and Kashif Jamil were going down fighting with Timms scoring the runs and Jamil staying with him until Jamil was run out by Luke Platt for 0 (28 balls) giving victory to the hosts with the visitors 139 all out in 46.4 overs. Matthew Timms was undefeated on 31 (37 balls)

The wickets were shared amongst the Longridge bowlers, Caleb Bradford 3-34 from 13 overs, Matt Greenall 3-35 off13.4 and Jake Durnell 3-43 from 9

Penrith v Blackpool

Penrith won the toss at Tynefield Park and invited the visitors to bat first, Blackpool made 251-3 in their 50 overs thanks to Kasim Munir with 103no supported by Joshua Boyne 58 and Dylan Henshall 57no

The two Penrith wicket takers were Greg Cameron 2-79 from 14 overs and James Ellis 1-11 off 4

In reply Penrith were bowled out for 176 in 41.1 overs, James Bowman top scored with 67 and there were contributions from Greg Cameron 34, Ollie Greenwood 26 and Asher Hart 17

The wikets were spread amonst the Blackpool bowlers, Steven Mercer 3-47 from 13.1 overs, Jamie Thomson 2-10 off 3, Naushad Shafi Shaikh 2-33 from 10, Matthew Grindley 1-26 off 8 and Alex Ryder 1-52 from 7

St Annes v Leyland

St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and invited the visitors to bat first, Jacob Wright and James Rounding opened but were soon parted James Rounding bowled by Lukman Vahaluwala for 8 (6 balls) 16-1

Nasir Nawaz came in at no3 but only made 5 (8 balls) bowled by Harry Birkman, 23-2, Kurtis Watson was next in but fell to Harry Birkman bowled for 7 (7 balls) 31-3, Karl Cross joined Jacob Wright but on 4 (19 balls) he was bowled by Tom Higson 52-4

Andrew Makinson replaced Cross but was bowled by Tom Bradley for 1 (16 balls) 59-5, James Critchley was in next but lost Jacob Wright who had been watching the collapse at the other end out caught by Yohan De Silva off Tom Bradley for 30 (60 balls) 60-6

Iain Critchley joined his son James and they kept the scoreboard ticking over until James Critchley was run out by Harry Birkman for 5 (21 balls) 74-7, Ben Weaver came in and went on the attack but fell caught by Lukman Vahaluwala off Tom Higson for 22 (20 balls) 105-8

Lukman Vahaluwala returned to the attack and bowled Alex Williams for 3 (13 balls), 110-9, last man in was Joe Shackleton but with only five runs added Iain Critchley was run out for 21 (47 balls) by Tom Bradley throwing down the stumps from near the boundary, 115 all out in 37.3 overs with Joe Shackleton 3no (9 balls)

The wickets were shared equally amongst the St Annes bowlers, Tom Bradley 2-19 from 8 overs, Lukman Vahaluwala 2-23 off 9, Harry Birkman 2-33 from 7 and Tom Higson 2-35 off 13.3

Tom Higson and Yohan De Silva opened, Tom Higson was caught behind by Alex Williams off Joe Shackleton for 12 (11 balls) 28-1. That was the only success for the visitors as Lukman Vahaluwala 39no (30 balls) and Yohan De Silva 59no (49 balls) saw the host home reaching 117-1 in only 15 overs

Joe Shackleton took 1-21 from 4 overs
