The Northern Cricket League Review

It is the 12th round of matches for the Northern Premier Cricket League.
Leaders Garstang win again as do Blackpool, Fulwood & Broughton, Longridge and St Annes with Chorley having a winning draw in a high scoring game at Vernon Carus

Fulwood & Broughton v Kendal

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and chose to bat first, Ewen Mansford and Matthew Smith opened but on 14 Matthew Smith was caught by Matthew Park off Harry Lee for 3 (15 balls) 14-1

Sonal Dinusha came in at three and with Mansford kept the scoreboard ticking over, their partnership was broken when Mansford was caught by Matthew Park off Chris Miller for 18 (46 balls) 39-2,

Mike Sambell was next in but was soon out caught by Rongsen Jonathan off Chris Miller for 1 (8 balls) 45-3, Ben Parkinson replaced Sambell and was going along nicely until he was out to the Jonathan/ Miller combination for 18 (21 balls) 67-4

Zach Proctor came to the wicket but became Chris Miller's fourth victim stumped by Sam Fletcher for 1 (6 balls) 82-5, Jon Fenton was Dinusha's next partner but was out for 4 (14 balls) lbw to Rongsen Jonathan 92-6

Muhammad Zaid joined Dinusha but lost him for 47 (41 balls) caught by Matthew Park off Rongsen Jonathan, 113-7. Dom Jackson was in at nine and with Zaid put on 31 runs when he was caught and bowled by Kuldeep Singh for 11 (26 balls) 144-8

James Lupton was Zaid's next partner but became Kuldeep Singh's second victon caught behind for 10 (15 balls) 164-9, Muhammad Zaid decided to go onto the attack hitting five sixes before he was caught by David Batty off Chris Miller for 67 (46 balls) (2x4)(8 x6) as the hosts were 199 all out in 41.5 overs with Chris Brookes 2no (14 balls)

Chris Miller was the visitors leading wicket taker with 5-72 from 14.5, Kuldeep Singh took 2-28 off 10, Rongsen Jonathan 2-46 from 9 and Harry Lee 1-23 off 6

The visitors got off to a terrible start, Harry Lee fell in Chris Brookes second over bowled for 0 (7 ballls) 1-1, David Batty joined Paul Dodds but after facing only five balls he was caught by Ben Parkinson off Jon Fenton for 1, 2-2

Rongsen Jonathan was in at four but with only fourteen runs added he lost Dodds caught by Dom Jackson off Chris Brookes for 3 (33 balls) 16-3, Chris Brookes claimed his third wicket bowling new batsman Oliver Tyson for 1 (8 balls) 34-4

Sam Fletcher joined Jonathan but disaster struck for the visitors as Chris Brookes bowled Rongsen Jonathan for 42 (44 balls) 59-5, Kuldeep Singh replaced Jonathan, three runs had been added when Singh was caught behind by Mike Sambell off Sonal Dinusha for 1 (14 balls) 62-6

Chris Brookes claimed his fifth wicket having Sam Fletcher caught behind by Mike Sambell for 6 (21 balls) 66-7, Chris Miller had made 14 (21 balls) when he was caught by Ewen Mansford off James Luton, 82-8

The end came with two wickets falling in two balls, firstly Matthew Park was run out by Zach Proctor for 1 (3 balls), 83-9, the next ball Sonal Dinusha bowled Alec Carradus for 0, Kendal were 83 all out in 29.4 overs with James Flemming 6no (21 balls)

Chris Brookes took 5-23 from 12 overs, Sonal Dinusha 2-17 off 6.4, James Lupton 1-7 from 3 and Jon Fenton 1-28 off 8

Leyland v Blackpool

Blackpool won the toss at the Stanning Memorial Ground and invited the hosts to bat first, James Rounding and James Critchley opened, their partnership was broken with Alex Ryder bowling James Rounding for 11 (20 balls) 24-1

Nasir Nawaz came in at three and with Critchley took the score to 52 whch saw the fall of James Critchley lbw to Matthew Grindley for 23 (48 balls) 52-2, Kurtis Waston was in next but lost partner Nawaz caught behind by Ben Howarth off Matthew Grindley for 21 (38 balls) 59-3

Matthew Grindley accounted for new batsman Karl Cross caught behind by Ben Howarth for 0 (6 balls), 63-4, next in was Andrew Makinson, he and Kurtis Watson battled to turn the innings around but on 12 (51 balls) Watson was caught by Naushad Shafi Shaikh off Jamie Thomson, 87-5

Nathan McDonnell replaced Watson but with only eleven runs added he was caught and bowled by Naushad Shafi Shaikh for 8 (19 balls) 98-6, Andrew Jacques was Makinson's next partner and they had put 37 runs when Makinson was caught by Jamie Thomson off Dylan Henshall for 48 (78 balls) 135-7

Iain Critchley came in next and continued the fight until the last over when they were both out stumped Ben Howarth off Naushad Shafi Shaikh, Jacxques first 21 (28 balls) 165-8, the two balls later Critchley for 22 (10 balls) 166-9

Leyland's innings closed on 167-9 in their 50 overs with Ben Weaver 1no (1 ball) and Alex Williams 1no (1 ball)

Matthew Grindley had the remarkable figues of 3-18 from 15 overs with Naushad Shafi Shaikh 3-43 off 8, Dylan Henshall 1-17 from 2, Jamie Thomson 1-24 off 8 and Alex Ryder 1-35 from 8

The openers Tomas King and Kasim Munir gave the visitors a brilliant start with a partnership of 107 broken when Munir was lbw to Nathan McDonnell for 48 (78 balls) 107-1, King followed ten runs later bowled by Iain Critchley for 63 (51 balls) (12 x4) 117-2

Joshua Boyne 34no (38 balls) and Naushad Shafi Shaikh 22no (21 balls) saw the visitors to victory reaching 170-2 in 30.5 overs.

For Leyland Nathan McDonnel took 1-43 from 10.5 overs with Iain Critchley 1-57 off 10

Longridge v Lancaster

Lancaster won the toss at the Newsham Memorial Cricket ground and elected to bat first, Irfan Khan and Eddie Steinson opened, unfortunately for the visitors Khan was bowled by Matt Greenall for 1 (4 balls) in the second over of the match. 1-1

Jack Lord came in at three but quickly fell bowled by Jonathan Millward for 0 (15 balls) 2-2, Jamie Heywood replaced Lord and with Steinson batted carefully and took the score to 35 when disaster struck for the visitors with the loss of three wickets without addition.

First to go was Jamie Heywood stumped by Tom Turner off Caleb Bradford for 18 (46 balls), 35-3, Eddie Steinson was out caught by Luke Platt off Jonathan Millward for 18 (44 balls) 35-4, Steven Fisher was run out by Luke Platt for 0 (9 balls) 35-5

The new batsmen were Kieran Moffat and Ben Simm, they fought to try and rebuild the innings, with the scopre on 57 Kieran Moffat fell caught by Luke Platt off Matt Greenall for 10 (30 balls) 57-6, Lee Marshall came in but was soon out bowled by Caleb Bradford for 1 (12 balls) 62-7

Liam Moffat joined Ben Simm and they continued the fight until Moffat was caught by Joshua Mullin off Jonathan Milward for 16 (24 balls) 99-8, in came Lee Sparks and was scoring at a run a ball until he was caught by Luke Platt off Matt Greenall for 23 (21 balls) 132-9

Ben Simm was the last man out for 44 (76 balls) stumped by Tom Turner off Tom Howarth as Lancaster were 138 all out in 47.3 overs with Chris Beales 0no (5 balls).

The Longridge wicket takers were Matt Greenall 3-27 from 14 overs, Jonathan Millward 3-44 off 15, Caleb Bradford 2-42 from 15 and Tom Howarth 1-19 off 3.3

Joshua Mullin and Rhys Morgan opened for the hosts and lost Morgan bowled by Kieran Moffat for 7 (14 balls) 11-1, Tom Howarth joined Mullin and they had a partnership of 103 which was broken with Howarth being caught and bowled by Ben Simm for 52 (63 balls) 114-2

That was the last success for the visitors as Joshua Mullin 59no (80 balls) and Tom Turner 14no (7 balls) saw the hosts home on 141-2 in 27.2 overs

Kieran Moffat took 1031 from 6.2 overs and Ben Simm 1-36 off 5

Netherfield v Garstang

Garstang won the toss at Parkside Road and invited the hosts to bat first, Netherfield got off to a disastrous start losing the top three early, Ben Barrow was bowled by Ian Walling for 0 on the fourth ball of the innings, 0-1, next ball Finlay Richardson was caught by Michael Wellings off Walling for 0, 0-2

Ian Walling bowled opener Reece Irving for 5 (10 balls) 5-3, Bradley Earl and C J Van Der Walt were left to pick up the pieces, Ian Walling was not finnished however, he bowled Van Der Walt for 8 (19 balls) 30-4, then he claimed his fifth wicket bowling John Mason for 3 (7 balls) 42-5

Daniel Bernet joined Earl and they set about rebuilding the innings, their partnership was 70 when Danny Gilbert bowled Daniel Bernet for 20 (73 balls) 112-6, Ian Walling took the vital wicket of Bradley Earl bowling him for 76 (100 balls) 125-7

Punit Bisht trapped Samuel Medhurst lbw for 0 (2 balls) 126-8. The Netherfield no8 and no 10 were not finished and they saw the hosts to 171-8 in their 50 overs with Oli Wileman undefeated on 33 (56 balls) and Louis Backhouse undefeated on 19 (28 ba;;s)

Ian Walling had figures of 6-38 from 15 overs, Punit Bisht 1-17 off 6 and Danny Gilbert 1-64 from 15

Michael Wellings and Michael Walling opened for the visitors and lost Walling caught C J Van Der Walt off Matt Jackson for 5 (10 balls),14-1.

No 3 was Punit Bisht and had made 39 (46 balls) when he was caught and bowled by John Mason, 75-2. Mark Walling joined Wellings and they took the score to 99, Wellings was caught by Louis Backhouse off C J Van Der Walt for 35 (79 balls) 99-3

Ryan Pearson replaced Wellings but was out for 6 (17 balls) caught by Reece Irving off Daniel Bernet, 118-4, next in was Matthew Crowther and with Walling looked to be heading for 15points until Louis Bachouse bowled Walling for 42 (78 balls) 150-5

Tom Wells was Crowther's next partner but with victory in sight Backhouse had Crowther caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 19 (40 balls) 162-6, Danny Gilbert was the new batsman and with Wells saw the visitors over the line on 171-6 in 47.1 overs, Tom Wells was 10no (12 balls) and Gilbert 5no (3 balls)

The Netherfield wicket takers were Louis Backhouse 2-35 from 8 overs, Daniel Bernet 1-13 off 4, John Mason 1-25 from 6, Matt Jackson 1-29 off 10.1 and C J Van Der Walt 1-36 from 13

St Annes v Penrith

St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and chose to bat first, their opening pair of Tom Higson and Ashton Charles had an opening partnership of 81 when Higson was caught and bowled by Greg Cameron for 50 (56 balls) 81-1

Yohan De Silva came in at three but with his score on 5 (11 balls) he was caught by Ollie Greenwood off Greg Cameron, 87-2, Lukman Vahaluwala was in next but was run out by Asher Hart for 12 (15 balls) 108-3

Nathan Armstrong joined Charles, Charles was next out caught by Greg Camereon off Mohit Kale for 42 (107 balls) 119-4, Alex Bradley replaced Charles and was scoring at a run a ball when he was caught by Bruce Glendinning off Finlay Hansford for 39 (36 runs) 184-5

Asher Hart acoounted for No7 batsman Nathan Bend stumped by Alister Craig for 2 (3 balls) 189-6, and new batsman Harry Birkman bowled for 0 ( 1 ball) 189-7, Tom Bradley joined Nathan Armstrong but was soon out caught by Nathan Ellwood off Finlay Hansford for 0 (3 balls) 191-8

James Bradley replaced Tom Bradley but was run out by Mohit Kale for 0 (5 balls) 196-9, The innings closed on 200 all out in 50 overs with Curtis Fletcher bowled by Asher Hart for 1 (4 balls) with Nathan Armstrong undefeated on 31 (60 balls)

The wickets were shared amongst the Penrith bowlers Asher Hart 3-39 from 10 overs, Finlay Hansford 2-31 off 6, Greg Cameron 2-53 from 15 and Mohit Kale 1-42 off 13

Nicky Burns and Asher Hart got the visitors off to a good start with an opening partnership of 31 broken by Lukman Vahaluwala bowling Burns for 6 (16 balls) 31-1, Ollie Greenwood was in at three but lost partner Hart bowled by Tom Higson for 40 (53 balls) 49-2

The new batsman was Mohit Kale but was soon out caught behind by James Bradley off Lukman Vahaluwala for 3 (2 balls) 52-3, Alister Craig replaced Kale but on 16 (19 balls) he was caught and bowled by Tom Higson, 77-4

Greg Cameron joined Greenwood and they were going along nicely until Tom Higson struck taking two wickets in two balls, firstly he had Ollie Greenwood stumped by James Bradley for 23 (60 balls),100-5, next ball he trapped Ben Ellis lbw for 0 100-6

Finlay Hansford was next in but on reaching 11 (19 balls) he was run out by Yohan De Silva, 116-7, Lukman Vahaluwala took the vital wicket of Greg Cameron bowled for 31 (51 balls) 135-8

One run had been added to the total when Vahaluwala bowled James Ellis for 6 (13 balls) 136-9, Curtis Fletcher bowled Bruce Gledinning for 6 (13 balls) to give victory to the hosts with Penrith 146 all out in 42.5 overs, Nathan Ellwood was 4no (10 balls)

Lukman Vahaluwala took 4-30 from 12 overs with Tom Higson 4-53 off 15 and Curtis Fletcher 1-13 from 3.5

Vernon Carus v Chorley

Vernon Carus won the toss at the Vernon Carus Sports and Social club and invited the visitors to bat first, Openers Alexander Howarth and Will Moulton gave Chorley a fantastic start with a partnership of 160 broken by Matthew Timms having Will Moulton caught behind by Jack Airey for 80 (93 balls) 160-1

Roshen Silva joined the run fest, Alexander Howarth reached his century but fell shortly afterwards bowled by Scott Fisher for 119 (121 balls) (20x4, 1x6) 235-2, Harry Barclay replaced Howarth and went on the attack and was bowled by Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage scoring 45 (19 balls) (1x4, 5x6)

The visitors closed their innings on 332-3 in their 50 overs with Roshen Silva 49no (55 balls) and Alfie Dobson 28no (11 balls)

The three wicket takers were Matthew Timms 1-56 from 15 overs, Scott Fisher 1-60 off 5 and Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage 1-74 from 15

The Vernon Carus openers scored the second century partnership of the match reaching 114 when Wes Royle was trapped lbw by James Lee for 67 (92 balls), 114-1, Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage was in at three but was out for 22 (30 balls) bowled by Edwin Moulton 171-2

Jack Airey replaced Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage, the reintroduction of Gaurav Dhar saw him have Airey caught by Will Moulton for 5 (10 balls) 185-3, it soon became four wickets down with Ben Duerden caught behind by Harry Barclay off Sam Steeple for 0 (3 balls) 186-4

Matthew Stevenson's long innings came to an end when he was caught by Roshen Silva off Gaurav Dhar for 86 (131 balls) 192-5, Christian Ash 21no (17 balls) and Jacob Holland 9no (18 balls) saw the hosts close on 228-5 in their 50 overs

The Chorley wicket takers were Gaurav Dhar 2-53 from 11 overs, Sam Steeple 1-26 off 8, James Lee 1-37 from 7 and Edwin Moulton 1-52 off 13
