The Northern Cricket League Review

It is the 11th round of matches for the Northern Premier Cricket League and half way through the season.
Garstang win and extend their lead at the top, there are also wins for Leyland,Netherfield, Penrith and St Annes with Fulwood & Broughton having a winning draw at Lancaster

Blackpool v St Annes

St Annes won the toss at Stanley Park and invited the hosts to bat first, Tomas King and Kasim Munir opened, Munir was out in the second over of the match caught by Lukman Vahaluwala off Harry Birkman for 0 (4 balls) 3-1

Dylan Henshall came in at three but lost King caught by Yohan De Silva off Lukman Vahaluwala for 9 (11 balls) 16-2, Joshua Boyne joined Henshall and they had a partnership broken when Henshall was caught by Nathan Bend off Thomas Bradley for 33 (46 balls) 77-3

Sagar Trivadi was in next but only lasted four balls caught by Yohan De Silva off Tom Higson for 0 79-4, Ben Howarth replaced Trivadi and became Tom Higson's second victim bowled for 4 (12 balls) 85-5

Jake Muncaster was in at seven but soon fell caught by Yohan De Silva off Thomas Bradley for 0 (6 balls) 86-6, Tom Higson claimed his third wicket trapping Alex Ryder lbw for 1 (11 balls) 91-7

Lukman Vahaluwala returned to the attack and in his first over mopped up the tail, first bowling Joshua Boyne for 31 (64 balls) 97-8, two balls later Paul Danson was caught by Yohan De Silva for 0 96-9 and he trapped Steven Mercer lbw for 0 (2 balls) 96 all out in 28.5 overs

The St Annes wicket takers were Lukman Vahaluwala 4-22 from 6.5 overs, Tom Higson 3-18 off 8, Thomas Bradley 2-32 from 10 and Harry Birkman 1-18 off 4

Tom Higson and Ashton Charles opened for the visitors, with 15 on the board Tom Higson was caught behind by Ben Howarth off Sagar Trivadi for 15, 15-1, Yohan De Silva was No 3 and with Charles put on 41 runs when Charles was out lbw to Steven Mercer for 17 (51 balls) 56-2

Nathan Bend came in at 4 but with only three runs added Matthew Grindley struck, firstly he had Bend caught by Alex Ryder for 1 (11 balls) 56-3, next ball he had Lukman Vahaluwala caught behind by Ben Howarth for 0 56-4

Nathan Bolus replaced Vahaluwala but lost De Silva for 29 (55 balls) caught by Tomas King off Matthew Grindley 64-5, Andy Drake joined Bolus and they saw the visitors home on 97-5 in 33.4 overs with Nathan Bolus 16no (48 balls) and Andy Drake 16no (21 balls)

For Blackpool Matthew Grindley took 3-38 from 15 overs, Steven Mercer 1-19 off 10 and Sagar Trivadi 1-28 from 7

Chorley v Leyland

Leyland won the toss at Windsor Park and chose to bat first making 175-9 in their 50 overs. Kurtis Watson top scored with 61 (76 balls) ably supported by Karl Cross 47 (74 balls) with James Rounding 23 (46 balls) and Jacob Wright 22 (52 balls)

The main wicket taker was Roshen Silva 5-9 from 5 overs with Will Moultgon 3-42 off 15 and James Lee 1-45 from 14

Chorley were bowled out for 67 in 29.2 overs with only three players reaching double figures, Will Moulton 21 (29 balls), Roshen Silva 18no (37 balls) and Harry Barclay 12 (37 balls)

Nathan McDonnell did the damage taking 5-13 from 9.2 overs with Andrew Jacques 2-19 off 7, Kurtis Watson 1-13 from 8 and Karl Cross 1-21 off 5

Garstang v Longridge

Longridge won the toss at the Riverside Spots ground and elected to bat first, They were bowled out for 142 in 46.1 overs thanks to the lower order with no 8 Thomas Turner top scoring with 54 and contributions of 24 from William Vause and 21 Tom Turner

Opening bowlers Rizwan Patel 4-30 from 12overs and Ian Walling 3-20 off 15 doing the damage with Joel Anthony Derham taking 2-23 from 11.1 and Danny Gilbert 1-50 off 8

The league leaders took 47.5 overs to reach their target of 143-6 with Punit Bisht 52 and Michael Wellings 33 leading the way, Danny Gilbert 22no and Matthew Crowther 14no saw the hosts over the line

Jake Durnell 3-40 from 15 overs and Matt Greenall 2-17 made life difficult for the home team

Kendal v Netherfield

Kendal won the toss at Shap Road and invited the vistitors to bat first, Ben Barrow and Josh Dixon opened, Josh Dixon was the first to go lbw to Toby Tyson for 0 (5 balls) 4-1,

Finlay Richardson came in at three but on 5 (18 balls) he was bowled by Kuldeep Singh, 13-2, Bradley Earl was the new batsman but became Toby Tyson's second victim lbw for 0 (8 balls) 16-3

Tyson struck again two balls later having Sagar Udeshi caught by Chris Miller for 0 16-4, things went from bad to worse, John Mason joined Ben Barrow who was the next wicket to fall caught behind by Sam Fletcher off Toby Tyson for 18 (41 balls) 25-5

Daniel Bernet replaced Barrow but fell first ball to Chris Miller for 0 26-6, only sixteen overs had been bowled so new batsman Oli Wileman knuckled down with Mason to try and retrieve the situation, their partnership was broken by Toby Tyson claiming his fifth wicket bowling Wileman for 26 (76 balls) 91-7

As often happens with long partnerships when one goes so does the other, John Mason fell caught by Harry Lee off Toby Tyson for 44 (96 balls) 98-8, Samuel Medhurst and Louis Backhouse were the new batsmen but were parted by Kuldeep Singh bowling Backhouse for 8 (9 balls) 113-9

Kuldeep Singh closed the innings four balls later trapping Matt Jackson lbw for 0 the visitors 113 all out in 46.5 overs, Samuel Medhurst was undefeated on 5 (21 balls)

Toby Tyson had figures of 6-36 from 15 overs, Kuldeep Singh taking 3-22 off 9.5 and Chris Miller 1-23 from 15

The Kendal reply was nearly a mirror image of the first innings, Sam Fletcher and Harry Lee opened, Fletcher was out on the first ball of the innings caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Sagar Udeshi for 0 0-1

Incoming batsman David Batty did not last long lbw to Matt Jackson for 1 (12 balls) 9-2, without a run being added Harry Lee was bowled by Sagar Udeshi for 4 (11 balls) 9-3, Oliver Tyson was next out caught by Josh Dixon off Matt Jackson for 0 (6 balls) 10-4

Chris Miller joined Rongsen Jonathan but was soon out lbw to Matt Jackson for 2 (6 balls) 16-5, Joseph Dodds replaced Miller but was run out by Bradley Earl for 5 (6 balls) 23-6

Paul Dodds was Jonathan's next partner and they moved the score to 46 when Sagar Udeshi took over, he trapped Dodds lbw for 4 (14 balls) 46-7, he then had Matthew Park stumped by Finlay Richardson for 0 (5 balls) 48-8

Keldeep Singh was in at 10 but fell lbw to Udeshi for 1 (11 balls) 52-9, Sagar Udeshi rapped things up having Toby Tuson lbw for 5 (21 balls) as Kendal were 81 all out in 28.5 overs with Rongsen Jonathan 53no (85 balls)

Netherfield can thank Sagar Udeshi who took 6-25 from 14.5 overs with Matt Jackson 3-29 off 8

Lancaster v Fulwood & Broughton

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at Lune Road and chose to bat first, Ewen Mansford and Matthew Smith opened but with the score on 22 Smith was lbw by Liam Moffat for 19 (21 balls)

Ben Parkinson was in at three but lost Mansford bowled by Liam Moffat fro 1 (16 balls) 25-2, Next in was Simon Kerrigan and with Parkinson took the score to 69 when Kerrigan was caught behind by Lee Sparks off Liam Moffat for 29 (50 balls) 69-3

Sonal Dinusha joined Parkinson and they were going well until the introduction of Jamie Heywood into the attack, in his first over Ben Parkinson was run out by David Steinson for 23 (74 balls) 95-4, four balls later new batsman Zach Proctor was caught by Kieran Moffat off Heywood for 0, 95-5

James Lupton came to the wicket but soon lost his partner Sonal Dinusha caught by Laurie Atkinson off Jamie Heywood for 27 (27 balls) 112-6, Ben Simm bowled James Lupton for 9 (8 balls) 112-7

The new batsmen Jon Fenton and Muhammad Zaid dug in and keeping the scoreboard ticking over until Fenton fell to the Atkinson/Heywood combination out for 8 (36 balls) 136-8, which quickly became 136-9 with Dom Jackson being caught behind by Lee Sparks off Jamie Heywood for 0 (2 balls)

The innings came to a close when Jamie Heywood claimed his fifth wicket bowling Chris Brookes for 0 (4 balls) as the visitors were 148 all out in 46.2 overs with Muhammad Zaid 28no (36 balls)

Jamie Heywood took 5-22 from 8.2 overs with Liam Moffat 3-38 off 15 and Ben Simm 1-53 from 12

Irfan Khan and Faizan Khan opened for the hosts and took the score to 30 when Faizan Khan was out lbw to Sonal Dinusha for 4 (25 balls), 30-1, Laurie Atkinson was in next but fell to the same fate as Khan lbw to Sonal Dinusha for 2 (19 balls) 40-2

No4 was Jamie Heywood but with only fifteen runs added he was out bowled by Simon Kerrigan for 2 (9 balls) 55-3, Sonal Dinusha cliamed his third wicket bowling Eddie Steinson for 1 (11 balls) 58-4.

Irfan Khan was watching the wickets fall at the other end, he was joined by Steven Fisher, Dom Jackson was introduced into the attack and with his second ball bowled Irfan Khan for 57 (86 balls) 75-5,

Dom Jackson claimed his second victim David Steinson caught by Matthew Smith for 1 (8 balls) 77-6, Kieran Moffat joined Fisher and they worked to turn the innings around, there were 14 overs remaining when Moffat was bowled by Simon Kerrigan for 28 (30 balls) 115-7

The pendulum swung in the visitors favour with the loss of Liam Moffat bowled by Simon Kerrigan for 3 (7 balls) 119-8, Ben Simm replaced Moffat but fell caught behind by Ben Parkinson off Jon Fenton for 5 (15 balls) 128-9

There were just over seven overs remaining with the hosts requiring 18 runs and the visitors 1 wicket, eight runs were required off the last over but only four were scored as Lancaster finished on 145-9 in 53 overs with Steven Fisher undefeated on 30 (95 balls) and Lee Sparks undefeated on 3 (13 balls)

The wicket takers were Sonal Dinusha 3-27 from 15 overs, Simon Kerrigan 3-40 off 17, Dom Jackson 2-19 from 4 and John Fenton 1-27 off 9

Penrith v Vernon Carus

Penrith won the toss at Tynfield Park and put the visitors into bat first, Jack Airey and Wes Royle opened but Airey was out caught and bowled by James Ellis for 6 (19 balls) 7-1

Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage came in at three and with Royle they carefully moved the score along but on 43 Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage was trapped lbw by Bruce Glendinning for 20 (35 balls) 43-2

Next in was Christian Ash but on 2 (21 balls) he was caught by Asher Hart off Mohit Kale, 56-3, Ben Duerden replaced Ash but was soon out caught by James Ellis off Bruce Glendinning for 0 (3 balls) 57-4

Wes Royle had kept one end going but he was the next to go caught and bowled by Mohit Kale for 29 (73 balls) 67-5. Daniel Cairns and Jacob Holland set about getting some runs on the board, they were going well until Daniel Cairns was run out by Asher Hart for 23 (62 balls) 96-6

Irshad Desai was in next and continued were Cairns left off but lost partner Jacob Holland caught by Greg Cameron off Mohit Kale for 15 (40 balls) 111-7, David Sullivan replaced Holland but was soon out the same way caught Cameron bowled Kale for 8 (11 balls) 120-8

Matthew Timms lasted four balls caught by Mohit Kale off James Ellis for 1, 128-9, the innings closed on 129 from 49.1 overs when Irshad Desai was caught by Samuel Hall off Greg Cameron for 15 (25 balls). Scott Fisher was 1no (2 balls)

Mohit Kale took 4-35 from 15 overs, Bruce Glendinning 2-24 off 15, James Ellis 2-25 from 7 and Greg Cameron 1-39 off 12.1

The Penrith reply got off to a disastrous start with a Jacob Holland hat-trick in the first over, first out was Alister Craig bowled for 0 (2 balls), next ball Owen Jones was caught behind by Jack Airey for 0, the hat-trick ball saw Mohit Kale bowled for 0, 0-3

Asher Hart was watching from the non-strikers end had a new partner in James Bowman who had made 7 (21 balls) when he was bowled by Matthew Timms, 16-4, victory seemed along way off, new batsman Greg Cameron dug in but with the total on 41 he was caught by Matthew Timms off Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage for 19 (26 balls), 41-5

Sanmuel Hall joined Hart and they had doubled the score when Hall was trapped lbw by Irshad Desai for 13 (44 balls) 85-6, Ben Ellis was next in and kept one end going while Asher Hart made the runs, these two saw the hosts home on 130-6 in 40.3 overs

Asher Hart was undefeated on 78 (96 balls) with Ben Ellis 8no (54 balls)

The Vernon Carus wicket takers were Jacob Holland 3-42 from 15 overs, Irshad Desai 1-17 off 6, Kasun Ekanayake Mudiyanselage 1-22 from 6, Matthew Timms 1-31 off 8
