The Northern Cricket League Review

Once again the sun was shining for Round 9 of the Northern Premier League.
Blackpool won the top two clash against Longridge and go top of the league,
There were also wins for Fleetwood, Lancaster and Leyland.
The other games were winning draws for Garstang v Kendal and Fulwood & Broughton v Morecambe.

Fleetwood v St Annes

Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater and chose to bat first, Charlie Clark and Jeremy Davies gave the hosts a good start with an opening partnership of 44, Clark fell caught by Luke Jardine off Tom Bradley for 12, 44-1

Adam Sharrocks was no 3 but lost Davies for 33 trapped lbw by Tom Bradley, 53-2. Dyllan Matthews joined Sharrocks and they had added 82 runs when Matthews was caught behind by Alex Bradley off Tom Higson for 35, 135-2

Higson struck again shortly afterwards having Declan Clerkin caught by Nathan Bolus for 5, 143-4, Tom Wilson was next in and 18 runs had been added when Sharrocks was out caught by Tom Higson off Curtis Fletcher for 50 161-5

The return of Harry Birkman to the attack saw him have James Gregson caught by Luke Jardine for 1, 164-6. Curtis Fletcher took his second wicket Tom Wilson caught by Andy Drake for 14, 165-7.

Ben Reader became Curtis's third victim lbw for 5, 172-8. The ninth wicket fell when Joseph Warwick was run out for 5 177-9. Harry Birkman ended the Fleetwood innings on 178 (48.2overs) when he bowled Scott Whittaker for 0. Jack Wilkinson was 2no.

Curtis Fletcher took 3-27 from 12 overs, Harry Birkman 2-24 off 9.2, Tom Bradley 2-35 from 7 and Tom Higson 2-57 off 15.

St Annes got off to a bad start with Alex Bradley out caught and bowled by Jeremy Davies for 2 4-1, No 3 Gurman Bains was trapped lbw by Declan Clerkin for 6, 19-2.

Clerkin struck again having Tom Higson caught by Scott Whittaker for 5 29-3. Nathan Bolus made 7 caught by Jeremy Davies off Dyllan Matthews. Andy Drake and Nathan Armstrong fought to rebuild the St Annes innings.

Drake was out caught by Declan Clerkin off Matthews for 39 and Armstrong caught behind by Charlie Clark off Declan Clerkin for 35

Dyllan Matthews then went through the remainder of the St Annes batting as they were bowled out for 113 (39.1 overs)

Dyllan Matthews figures were 6-35 from 11.1 overs, Declan Clerkin 3-32 off 13 and Jeremy Davies 1-21 from 6

Kendal v Garstang

Garstang won the toss at Shap Road and elected to bat first. Michael Wellings and Michael Walling got them off to a good start reaching 44 when Wellings was caght by Harry Lee off Chris Miller for 26 (28 balls). 44-1

Mohammed Yusuf came in at no3 but lost Walling caught by Darren Nightingale bowled Chalana De Silva for 19 (42 balls) 48-2. Punit Bisht joined Yusuf and they had a partnership of 57 when Yusuf was trapped lbw by Matthew Park for 19 (51 balls) 105-3

Mark Walling was Bisht's next partner and they took the score to 141 when Walling was caught by Chris Miller off Matthew Park for 7 (28 balls) 141-4. Bisht who was scoring at a run aball was out next caught by Chris Miller off Kuldeep Singh for 70 (71 balls) 143-5

Matthew Park ran out Matthew Crowther 0 (3 balls) without any addition to the score, 143-6. Three runs had been added when Kuldeep Singh bowled Dan Curwen for 2 (14 balls) 146-7.

Danny Gilbert and Toby Lush set about restoring the innings and took the total to 177 when Gilbert was bowled by Kuldeep Singh for 15 (37 balls). 177-8 Toby Lush followed on the same score caught and bowled by Chalaana De Silva for 16 (22 balls) 177-9

Kuldeep Singh closed the innings on 179 (49.2 overs) taking his fourth wicket bowling Ian Walling 1. (5 balls) Thomas Speake was 1no (2 balls).

Kuldeep Singh took 4-27 from 9.2 overs, Matthew Park 2-21 off 8, Chalana De Silva 2-44 from 15 and Chris Miller 1-48 off 12

Kendal got off to a diastrous start losing two wickets in the first over with no runs on the board, Ian Walling had Chris Miller caught by Punit Bisht off the first ball 0-1, then he trapped Tom Aspinwall lbw first ball 0-2

Chalana De Silve at three only lasted 11 balls being caught by Thomas Speake off Danny Gilbert for 2. 19-3.

Darren Nightingale was keeping one end going and was joined by Ben Phillips, they had nearly doubled the score when Phillips was caught by Michael Walling off Mohammed Yusuf for 10 (28 balls) 36-4. Nightingale's fighting innings came to an end when he was bowled by Mohammed Yusuf for 47 (64 balls) 63-5

The Kendal tail were now fighting a rear guard action to try and get something out of the game, David Batty and Joseph Dodds started the fight back, Their partnership was 36 when Batty was caught by Toby Lush off Michael Waling for 25 (55 balls) 99-6

Harry Lee joined Dodds and they battled on and took the total to 120 when Lee was trapped lbw by Danny Gilbert 8 (26 balls) 120-7. Joseph Dodds 23no (86 balls) and Richard Dakin 4 (28 balls) saw the hosts to the close ending on 129-7

Danny Gilbert took 2-13 from 11 overs, Mohammed Yusuf 2-37 off 17, Ian Walling 2-37 from 11 and Michael Walling 1-26 from 6

Lancaster v Chorley

Chorley won the toss at Lune Road and decided to bat first, Only three balls had been bowled when Andrew Holdsworth was caught behind by Lee Sparks off Damar Graham 0-1

Alfie Dobson joined Ben Simpkins and they took the score to 24 when both men were out, Dobson caught and bowled by Atharva Taide for 7 (41 balls) 24-2, Simpkins followed caught by Ben Simm bowled Damar Graham 14 (33 balls) 24-3

Siddesh Lad and Harry Barclay set about rebuilding the innings, they doubled the score when Barclay was trapped lbw by Irfan Qayyum for 3 (33 balls), 48-4, Joseph Tiffin joined the battle and their partnership of 43 was broken when Siddesh Lad was caught behind by Lee Sparks off Damar Graham for 38 (52 balls) 91-5

Eleven runs later Joseph Tiffin was out caught Atharva Taide off Damar Graham for 24 (34 balls) 102-6. Runs were hard to come by and Keiran McCullagh fell Laurie Atkinson bowled Ben Simm for 11 (11 balls) 106-7.

Louis Johnson and Gaurav Dhar put on 30 runs when Johnson became Simm's second victim caught Damar Graham for 16 (34 balls) 136-8. Gaurav Dhar was 21 (33 balls) when he was caught by Laurie Atkinson off Ben Simm 146-9

Samuel Steeple 15no (21 balls) and James Lee 2no (6 balls) saw the Chorley innings to the close on 161-9

Damar Graham took 4-28 from 14 overs, Ben Simm 3-42 off 9, Ifan Qayyum 1-27 from 11 and Atharva Taide 1-53 from 15

Andrew Chubb and Sandy Richards got the visitors off to a good start reaching 30 when Richards was trapped lbw by Samuel Steeples 14 (29 balls), 30-1

Seventeen runs had been added by Chubb and Atharva Taide when Chubb was caught behind by Harry Barclay off Louis Johnson for 24 (67 balls), 47-2. Laurie Atkinson in at no4 and was on 20 (34 balls) when he was out lbw to Gaurav Dhar, 82-3

Faizan Khan was Taide 's next partner and their partnership was 50 when Khan was caught behind by Harry Barclay off Siddesh Lad for 15 (56 balls) 132-4. Irfan Qayyum was next in but only made 9 (8 balls) when he was lbw to Siddesh Lad 144-5

Ben Simm soon followed caught by Joseph Tiffin off James Lee for 1 (2 balls) 149-6. Then disaster for Lancaster Taide was out for 52 (76 balls) caught by Andrew Holdsworth off James Lee, 150-7

Twelve runs required or three wickets who would win, David Steinson and Damar Graham had added 9 runs to the total when Steinson became the fourth player to be out lbw this time to Siddesh Lad for 8 (15 balls) 159-8

Damar Graham gave the visitors victory hitting a four to close the innings on 163-8, Graham 5no (6 balls) and Lee Spaks 0no (1 ball)

Siddesh Lad took 3-47 from 14 overs, James Lee 2-28 off 11.4, Samuel Steeples 1-20 from 7 and Louis Johnson 1-22 off 7

Leyland v Netherfield

Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial Ground and chose to bat first. They were bowled out for 132 in 47.1 overs with Lukman Vahaluwala top scoring with 37 and Jacob Wright 27

For Netherfield Oli Wileman took 3-17 from 7 overs, Richie Forsyth 3-22 off 10.1, Matt Jackson 2-40 from 13, Shrikant Mundhe 1-23 off 9 and Robbie Dwyer 1-19 from 5

In reply the Netherfield batsmen had no answer ot Lukman Vahaluwala and Karl Cross being bowled out for 47 only James Bowman 11 reaching double figures.

Vahaluwala took 5-19 from 14 overs and Cross 5-24 off 13.3

Longridge v Blackpool

Blackpool won the toss at Stanley Park and invited the visitors to bat first, Luke Platt and Joshua Mullin opened for Longridge but with the score on 17 Platt was caught by Ciaran Johnson off Matthew Grindley for 8 (7 balls) 17-1

James Whitehead came in at 3 but with only four runs added the visitors lost two wickets, firstly Mullin was caught by Sam Dutton off Jamie Thomson for 8 (17 balls) 21-2, then Matthew Grindley had James Whitehead caught behind by Ben Howarth for 0 (8 balls) 21-3

Zac Christie and Daniel Wilkinson Jnr dug in and battled to rebuild the innings, Their partnership had reached 57 when Wilkinson Jnr was bowled by Matthew Siddall for 33 (41 balls) 78-4. Thomas Turner joined Christie and continued the fight back.

They had put on 37 runs when Christie was bowled by Matthew Grindley for 37 (72 balls), 125-5. Nick Wilkinson came in at no7

Fifteen runs were added to the score when again two wickets fell on the same score, Thomas Turner was trapped lbw by Shivam Chauhan for 35 (53 balls) 140-6, then Nick Wilkinson was bowled by Matthew Siddall for 9 (18 balls) 140 7

Ian Simpson and Caleb Bradford had a partnership of 27 when Bradford was run out by Dylan Henshall for 5 (34 balls) 167-8. one run later Simpson was bowled by Shivam Chauhan for 22 (33 balls) 168-9

The last wicket partnership of William Vause and Matt Greenall put on 19 when Longridge were bowled out for 187 (48.4 overs) with Vause being stumped by Ben Howarth off Matthew Grindley for 9 (8 balls), Greenall was 7no (5 balls)

Matthew Grindley took 4-54 in 14.4 overs, Matthew Siddall 2-34 off 15, Shivam Chauhan 2-34 from 9 and Jamie Thomson 1-34 off 8

In reply Tomas King and Sam Dutton had moved on to 26 when King was bowled by Matt Greenall for 12 (8 balls) 26-1.

Ciaran Johnson joined Dutton and they took control of the game, their partnership was 145 when Dutton was caught by Thomas Turner off William Vause for 94 (50 balls) including 15 fours and 4 sixes, 171-2

Johnson took over from Dutton as Blackpool romped home reaching 190-2 in 22.5 overs, Johnson 73no (82 balls) with 10 fours and 2 sixes, Shivam Chauhan was 0no (3 balls)

Morecambe v Fulwood & Broughton

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at Woodhill Lane and chose to bat first, Mark Smith was 4 (11 balls) when he was caught behind by Reuben Orr off Liam Moffat, 4-1

Matthew Smith came in at no3 and with Ewen Mansford took the score to 35 when Mansford was caught behind by Reuben Orr off Jamie Cassidy for 8 (44 balls) 35-2

Simon Kerrigan joined Smith and they had the scoreboard ticking over at nearly a run a ball, their partnership was 67 when Matthew Smith gave Orr his third catch off the bowling Jamie Cassidy for 60 (67 balls) 102-3

Jamie Cassidy took his third wicket bowling Abhay Negi for 0 (7 balls) 110-4. Ben Parkinson was Kerrigan's next partner and they moved the score onto 198 when Parkinson was trapped lbw by Charlie Swarbrick for 32 (44 balls) 198-5

Mike Sambell was no7 and had made 11 (11 balls) when he was caught Ryan Pearson off Liam Moffat, 213-6, Lewis Wellings was bowled by Louis Backhouse for 6 (11 balls) 230-7

Simon Kerrigan's patient innings came to a close caught by Luke Pearson off Charlie Swarbrick for 82 (97 balls), 230-8. The innings closed without further addition on 230-8. Jon Fenton 2 (5 balls) and Chris Brookes 0no (6 balls)

Jamie Cassidy took 3-66 from 13 overs, Charlie Swarbrick 2-21 off 4, Liam Moffat 2-63 from 15 and Louis Backhouse 1-16 off 7

In reply chasing a big score Morecambe got off to the worst start losing three early wickets, Luke Pearson was bowled first ball by Jon Fenton for 0 4-1, Charlie Swarbrick was bowled by Fenton for 2 (3 balls) 6-2 then Rongsen Jonathan was bowled by Abhay Negi for 8 (15 balls) 19-3

Ryan Pearson joined Gareth Pedder and they began the enormous task of trying to get something out of the game, they had taken the total to 63 when Pedder was caught behind by Mike Sambell off Matthew Smith for 29 (55 balls) 63-4

Alex Briggs was next in but when he had made 9 (19 balls) he was trapped lbw by Ewen Mansford, 99-5. Three runs later and Kieran Moffat was bowled by Simon Kerrigan for 1 (8 balls), 102-6.

Victory for the home side was now out of the question but the object was to get as many runs as possible without losing wickets, the score was 129 when the seventh wicket fell Reuben Orr run out fot 7 (16 balls)

In the 47th over Simon Kerrigan struck having Ryan Pearson caught by Ben Parkinson for 84 (135 balls) 159-8 then four balls later trapping Jamie Cassidy lbw for 0 (4 balls) 159-9

Liam Moffat 12no (41 balls) and Louis Backhouse 1no (3 balls) saw the innings to the close without further loss ending on 166-9

Simon Kerrigan had 3-44 from 15 overs, Jon Fenton 2-24 off 7, Ewen Mansford 1-14 from 4, Matthew Smith 1-23 off 5 and Abhay Negi 1-40 from 15
