The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 8 of the Northern Premier League on a glorious sunny day saw Lancaster end Longridge's unbeaten run and Leyland register their first win,
There were also wins for Blackpool, Morecambe, Garstang and St Annes

Chorley v Blackpool

Blackpool won the toss at Windsor Park and invited their hosts to bat first, The Blackpool opening bowlers put the Chorley opening batsmen under pressure resulting in Ben Simpkins falling caught behind by Sam Dutton off Matthew Grindley for 1 (13 balls) 10-1

Matthew Grindley struck two balls later having Alfie Dobson caught by Joshua Boyne for 0 (2 balls) without any further addition to the score. 10-2, Things went from bad to worse with Andrew Holdsworth trapped by Jamie Thomson for 0 (18 balls) 10-3

Siddesh Lad had only made two (14 balls) when he became Grindley's third victim caught by Jake Muncaster, 17-4. Harry Barclay and Joseph Tiffin fought to rebiuld the innings but Grindley ended the partnership bowling Tiffin for 2 (26 balls) 27-5

Louis Johnson joined Barclay and dug in to support his partner, they had taken to score to 53 when Johnson was caught by Jake Muncaster off Joshua Boyne for 2 (26 balls) 53-6, Barclay's new partner Keiran McCullagh made 6 (6 balls) when he was caught by Dylan Henshall off Matthew Siddall, 59-7

Gaurav Dhar came in at no 9 and added fourteen runs with Barclay when he gave Jake Muncaster his third catch off Matthew Siddall 3 (11 balls) 73-8, Sam Steeple was bowled by Shivam Chauhan for 4 (10 balls) 90-9

The Chorley innings closed on 106-9 with Harry Barclay 53no (142 balls) and James Lee 2no (6 balls).

Matthew Grindley had the remarkable figures of 15 overs 10 maidens 6 runs and 4 wickets. The other Blackpool wicket takers were Matthew Siddall 2-28 from 15 overs, Jamie Thomson 1-10 off 8, Chivam Chauhan 1-14 from 2 and Joshua Boyne 1-26 off 10

In reply Blackpool lost an early wicket Ciaran Johnson bowled by James Lee for 4, 8-1. Tomas King was joined by Dylan Henshall and their partnership had reached 37 when Henshall was trapped lbw by James Lee for 18 (16 balls), 45-2

Shivam Chauhan was no 4 but only made 3 (4 balls) when he was caught by Keiran McCullagh off Louis Johnson, 48-3. Joshua Boyne was King's next partner and they moved the total to 77 when Boyne fell to the McCullagh/Johnson combination for 14 (13 balls) 77-4

Chorley were given hope when Johnson took two wickets with the score on 80, first Tomas King 33 (41 balls) gave Keiran McCullagh his third catch, 80-5, Jake Muncaster followed caught behind by Harry Barclay for 0 (3 balls) 80-6

Sam Dutton was joined by Matthew Grindley and they batted steadily and had taken the visitors in sight winning the match when Grindley was caught by Alfie Dobson off Siddesh Lad for 9 (29 balls) 106-7

Blackpool claimed victory the next ball with Sam Dutton hitting the ball to the boundary the total 110-7 in 24 overs, Dutton was 21no (25 balls).

Louis Johnson took 4-24 from 7 overs, James Lee 2-32 off 7 and Siddesh Lad 1-9 from 1

Fulwood & Broughton v Leyland

The home team won the toss at the Highfield ground and chose to bat, Mark Smith and James McWilliam opened the batting, Smith was the first to go caught by James Rounding off Karl Cross for 5 (13 balls), 7-1

Matthew Smith was no 3 but with the total on 15 two wickets fell, Matthew Smith was caught by Kurtis Watson off Karl Cross for 4 (4 balls), 15-3. James McWilliam was trapped lbw by Saliya Saman for 6 (23 balls) 15-3

Ben Parkinson and Abhay Negi began the rebuild and slowly moved the total to 32 when Parkinson was caught behind by Joe Wallwork-Woods off Saliyi Saman for 4 (32 balls) 32-4

Runs were hard to come by and Negi and Mark Sambell had put on 20 runs when Sambell was caught behind by Joe Wallwork-Woods off Kurtis Waston for 1 (25 balls), 52-5.

The home side's task became more difficult when Abhay Negi was caught by David Makinson off Karl Cross for 34 (45 balls) 65-6. The hosts tail battled on but with 10 runs added Karl Cross took his fourth wicket having Ben Rosbottom caught by Saliya Saman for 10 (25 balls) 75-7

Jon Fenton followed one run later caught by David Makinson off Saman for 11 (19 balls) 76-8. Dominic Jackson and Ewen Mansford had a partnership of 31 when Kurtis Watson finished off the innings, firstly trapping Jackson lbw 25 (43 balls) 107-9, then bowling Olly Jackson first ball 0, 107 all out in 42.2 overs

Karl Croos took 4-24 from 15 overs. Kurtis Watson 3-19 off 5.2 and Saliyi Saman 3-31 from 13

The Leyland reply with openers Karl Cross and James Rounding took the score to 25 when Jon Fenton trapped Cross for 15 (19 balls), 25-1. Fenton struck one run later trapping Rounding lbw for 9 (12 balls) 26-2

Leyland now had Kurtis Watson and Saliya Saman at the wicket and they took control and steered the visitors to victory reachong 110-2 in 22.5 overs with Watson 39no (58 balls) and Saman 44 (48 balls)

Jon Fenton took 2-35 from 5 overs

Garstang v Fleetwood

Fleetwood won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and decided to bat, They made 198 all out in 48.1 overs with Dyllan Matthews top scoring with 48

He was supported by Declan Clerkin 40, Tom Wilson 40 and Adam Sharrocks 37.

Michael Walling was the Garstang hero taking 7-49 in 14.1 overs, Toby Lush 1-25 from 6 and Ian Walling 1-48 off 14 were the other wicket takers

In reply Garstang knocked off the runs reaching 204-4 in 43 overs thanks to Punit Bisht with 95 no with contributions from Michael Walling 33 and Mark Walling 31

The Fleetwood wicket takers were Declan Clerkin 2-60 from 14, Jack Wilkinson 1-19 off 3 and Dyllan Matthews 1-84 from 15

Longridge v Lancaster

Lancaster won the toss at the Newsham Memorial cricket ground and elected to bat first, They were bowled out in 47.1 overs for 193

The visitors can thank Atharva Taide who made 114. Laurie Atkinson 20 and Ben Simm 20 were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Daniel Wilson took 5-53 from 15 overs with Jonathan Millward 3-62 off 15, Matt Greenall 1-33 from 11 and Caleb Bradford 1-35 off 6.1

Luke Platt 44 and Joshua Mullin 20 looked to have given the hosts a good start but it all fell away and Nick Wilkinson 20no was the only other batsman to reach double figures as Longridge were bowled out for 122 in 41 overs

Ben Simm with 5-35 in 15 overs and Atharva Taide 3-23 off 13 did the damage with Damar Graham taking 1-19 from 6

Netherfield v Morecambe

Morecambe won the toss at Parkside Road and elected to bat, Gareth Pedder and Luke Pearson opened and had put on 25 runs when Pedder was bowled by Shrikant Mundhe for 7 (21balls) 25-1

Charlie Swarbrick was no 3 but lost his partner Luke Pearson one run later caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Shrikant Mundhe for 15 (34 balls), 26-2

Rongsen Jonathan joined Swarbrick and they had a partnership of 95 when Swarbrick was caught by Josh Dixon off Lewis Richardson for 56 (53 balls), 120-3

Ryan Pearson came in at 5 and with Rongsen Jonathan added fifty runs when Pearson was bowled by Samuel Medhurst for 18 (29 balls), 170-4

Alex Briggs took over from Pearson and with Jonathan had a partnership of 57 when Jonathan fell bowled by Samuel Medhurst for 97 (83 balls) 227-5

Kieran Moffat was next in and had made 6 (9 balls) when he became Medhust's third victim caught by Shrikant Munhe. 255-6, Reuben Orr replaced Moffat and was out caught by Josh Dixon off Matt Jackson for 5 (7 balls) 270-7

The Morecambe innings closed one over later on 271-7 with Alex Briggs 59 no with Jamie Cassidy not facing

It was hard day in the field for the Netherfield bowlers, their wicket takers were Samuel Medhurst 3-43 from 10, Shrikant Mundhe 2-23 off 10, Lewis Richardson 1-23 from 5 and Matt Jackson 1-52 off 11

Ben Barrow and Lewis Richardson got the hosts off to a good start with an opening partnership of 34 when Barrow was caught by Alex Briggs off Liam Moffat for 14 (12 balls) 34-1

No 3 was Shrikant Mundhe and with Richardson took the score to 50 when Richardson was bowled by Liam Moffat for 25 (32 balls) 50-2, Moffat struck again one run later having Mundhe caught by Kieran Moffat for 5 (14 balls) 51-3

Liam Moffat had his fourth victim having Josh Dixon caught behind by Reuben Orr for 1 (12 balls) 56-4. The game was slipping away for the home team, Bradley Earl and Finlay Richardson started the Netherfiedl fight back

Their partnership was 36 when Finlay Richardson was caught by Rongsen Jonathan off Louis Backouse for 19 (24 balls), 92-5. James Bowman replaced Richardson but lost Earl 19 (24 balls) caught by Louis Backhouse off Jamie Cassidy with only 17 runs added. 109-6

Bowman lost his next partner Oli Wileman bowled by Charlie Swarbrick for 11 (12 balls) 120-7, Any hope for the hosts seem to go when Isaac Medhurst was trapped by Rongsen Jonathan for 0 (12 balls) 125-8

Samuel Medhurst joined Bowman and the pair began to give the home team a glimpse of something positve happening with a partnership of 95 which came to an end with Bowman being bowled by Liam Moffat for 70 (83 balls) 220-9

Netherfield were now in the last over and from certain defeat was the possibility of a draw, Rongsen Jonathan secured victory for the visitors by bowling Matt Jackson for 6 (7 balls) with the total 239 all out 49.2 overs.

Samuel Medhurst remained undefeated on 24 (58 balls)

For Morecambe Liam Moffat took 5-72 from 14 overs, Rongsen Jonathan 2-29 off 7.2, Jamie Cassidy 1-24 from 8, Charlie Swarbrick 1-24 off 8 and Louis Backhouse 1-51 from 10

St Annes v Kendal

Kendal won the toss at Vernon Road and were soon in trouble, Darren Nightingale was bowled by Harry Birkman for 0 (15 balls) 3-1,

Mitch Bolus struck taking two wickets in an over, bowling Harry Lee for 4 (7 balls) 8-2. two balls later having Chalana De Siva caught by Tom Higson 0 (2 balls) 8-3

Tom Aspinwall joined Chris Miller and they had taken the score to 35 when Aspinwall was out lbw off Curtis Fletcher for 20 (27 balls) 35-4. Joseph Dodds was next out caught behind by Alex Bradley off Tom Bradley for 0 (19 balls) 52-5

Curtis Fletcher bowled William Price for 0 (5 balls) 53-6, one run had been added when Tom Bradley bowled Freddie Price for 0 (2 balls) 54-7

Richard Dakin joined Chris Miller and they were rebuilding the Kendal innings but the introduction of opening bowler Harry Birkman to the attack saw everything change, he bowled Chris Miller for 50 (119 balls) 98-8, then trapped Dakin lbw for 16 (35 balls) 99-9.

Kendal were bowled out for 105 in 40.5 overs when Birkman bowled Matthew Park for 0 (3 balls), Kuldeep Singh was 3 no (12 balls)

Harry Birkman had the brilliant figures of 4-13 from 9.5 overs, Curtis Fletcher 2-19 off 11, Tom Bradley 2-26 from 8 and Mitch Bolus 2-35 off 12

The St Annes reply was slow and they lost both openers woth the score on 13, Andy Drake was bowled by Tom Aspinwall for 4 (35 balls) 13-1, Alex Bradley was caught behind by Richard Dakin off Chris Miller for 8 (29 balls) 13-2

Tom Higson and Gurman Bains were the new batsmen and both fell with the total on 30, Bains was run out by Tom Aspinwall for 1 (4 balls) 30-3, Tom Higson was caught by William Price off Tom Aspinwall for 16 (14 balls) 30-4

Nathan Bolus and Nathan Armstrong took on the battle for St Annes and steered them into a promising position when Nathan Bolus was caught behind by Richard Dakin off Matthew Park for 28 (58 balls) 81-5

Luke Jardine joined Armstrong and they took the score to 90 when Jardine was caught by Matthew Park off Chris Miller 7 (25 balls) 90-6. One run later and Nathan Armstron fell caught by Chris Miller off Matthew Park for 18 (33 balls) 91-7

Mitch Bolus and Harry Birkman batted sensibly and the scores were level when Birkman was caught behind by Richard Dakin off Matthew Park for 1 (20 balls) 105-8

Tom Bradley came in no 10 and was out caught behind by Richard Dakin of Chris Miller for 0 (3 balls) 105-9

Last man in for St Annes Curtis Fletcher played a dot ball then scored a single to give St Annes victory with 106-9 in 40.4 overs. Mitch Bolus was 8no (22 balls) with Fletcher 1no (2 balls)

Matthew Park with 3-10 in 9 overs was the pick with Chris Miller 3-34 from 11.4 and Tom Aspinwall 2-14 off 6
