The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 22 of the Northern Premier League saw the final relegation place decided, three teams were involved Chorley, Morecambe and St Annes. Chorley defeated Fleetwood meaning St Annes had to gain 6 points from their match and Morecambe 5

St Annes gained 6 bonus points in their defeat at Leyland but Morecambe could only gain 2 in their loss v Garstang so Morecambe fill the final relegation spot

A Lancaster win against Fulwood & Broughton and defeat for Longridge at Kendal see Lancaster as Runner's up

The Champions Blackpool lost at home to Netherfield

Blackpool v Netherfield

Netherfield won the toss at Stanley Park and elected to bat first, their opening partnership was 14 when Josh Dixon was bowled by Jamie Thomson for 0 (15 balls) 14-1

James Bowman joined Ben Barrow and they batted steadily taking the score to 42 when Bowman was stumped by Ben Howarth off Matthew Siddall for 24 (42 balls) 42-2, Ben Barrow followed suffering the same fate stumped Howarth bowled Siddall for 22 (60 balls) 57-3

The visitors now had two new batsmen at the crease, Shrikant Mundhe and Finlay Richardson, they began to take control of the game but with the total on 155 Finlay Richardson became Matthew Siddll'a third victim bowled for 35 (53 balls) 155-4

Siddall struck again bowling Bradley Earl for 2 (9 balls) 163-5, Shrikant Mundhe was going along at a run ball but lost his next partner Thomas Anderton caught by Jamie Thomson to give Matthew Siddall his fifth wicket for 15 (13 balls) 199-6

The Nerthfield innings closed on 214-6 in their 50 overs with Shrikant Mundhe 107no (105 balls)(14x4 2x6) and Oli Wileman 3no (3 balls)

Matthew Siddall took 5-69 from 15 and Jamie Thomson 1-43 off 8

The Blackpool reply was the same as the visitors losing an early wicket, Sam Dutton lbw to Matt Jackson for 0 (4 balls) 11-1, Fellow opener Tomas King was next out caught by Ben Barrow off Shrikant Mundhe for 20 (27 balls) 28-2

Ciaran Johnson and Sachithra Serasinghe were watchful of the visitors attack but on 50 Johnson was bowled by Samuel Medhurst for 14 (28 balls) 50-3, Jake Muncaster replaced Johnson and had made 13 (36 balls) when he was caught by Josh Dixon off Reece Irving, 86-4

Serasinghe was next to fall caught by Bradley Earl off Oil Wileman for 36 (45 balls) 104-5, Ben Howarth and Joshua Boyne had put on 24 when Boyne was caught by Bradley Earl off Thomas Anderton for 12 (20 balls) 128-6

The champions were staring defeat in the face when Matthew Grindley was trapped lbw 3 (12 balls) by Oli Wileman 138-7, followed quickly by Ben Howarth caught by Bradley Earl off Oli Wileman for 34 (32 balls) 141-8

The Blackpool tail were fighting a rearguard action but Oli Wileman had other idea's, he had Jamie Thomson caught by Bradley Earl (his fourth catch) 13 (9 balls) 161-9, he then trapped Paul Danson lbw for 27 (27 balls) to close the innings on 186 in 43.4 overs. Matthew Siddall was 6no (16 balls)

The Netherfield wicket takers were Oil Wileman 5-42 from 11.4 overs, Shrikant Mundhe 1-22 off 7, Thomas Anderton 1-26 from 6, Samuel Medhurst 1-27 off 7, Reece Irving 1-29 from 4 and Matt Jackson 1-38 off 8

Fleetwood v Chorley

This was a match that Chorley must win to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive, Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater and chose to bat first, They were bowled out in 35.2 overs for 105 with Declan Clerkin top scoring with 20 and Alex Ryder making 19

The Chorley heroes were Will Moulton taking 5-38 from 13.2 overs and Samuel Steeple 5-42 off 15

In reply Chorley took just 24.4 overs to score the required runs ending on 107-1, Siddesh Lad was 65no and Ben Simpkins made 28

The visitors could now only wait for the results at Leyland and Morecambe to know their fate

Kendal v Longridge

Kendal won the toss at Shap Road and put the visitors into bat, Luke Platt and Joshua Mullin opened but Mullin was soon out lbw to Toby Tyson for 0 (4 balls) 8-1

Matt Joyce joined Platt and they steadily built the score until both were out with the score on 22, firstly Joyce was bowled by Toby Tyson for 11 (30 balls) 22-2, then Platt was bowled by Chalana De Silva for 9 (38 balls) 22-3

The introduction of Chris Miller into the attack saw him take two wickets in his first over, Daniel Wilson was bowled for 1 (10 balls) 27-4, followed two balls later by Jonathan Millward lbw for 0 27-5

Zac Christie and Thomas Turner battled to rebuild the visitors innings, with 13 runs added Chalana De Silva bowled Thomas Turner for 13 (41 balls) 48-6. Matt Greenall became Miller's third victim caught by Toby Tyson for 4 (11 balls) 57-7

Chris Miller then took the prize wicket of Zac Christie caught by Darren Nightingale for 25 (67 balls) 68-8, he also accounted for the last two Longridge wickets, bowling Nick Wilkinson for 2(19 balls) then trapping William Vause lbw for 5 (22 balls) as the visitors were bowled out fot 73 in 41.5 overs. Jake Durnell was 0no (7 balls)

The Kendal hero was Chris Miller taking 6-32 from 13.5 overs, Toby Tyson 2-9 off 7 and Chalana De Silva 2-14 from 15

Chris Miller and Darren Nightingale were the Kendal openers, Nightingale was the first to go bowled by William Vause for 5 (9 balls) 14-1, Harry Lee joined Miller and they were made to fight for their runs, Miller was run out by Joshua Mullin for 21 (43 balls) 33-2

Harry Lee followed bowled by Jake Durnell for 6 (31 balls) 46-3, Kendal then lost two quick wickets, Chalana De Silva 17 (6 balls) caught by LUke Platt off Daniel Wilson 56-4 followed by Wilson bowling Shane Hyland for 2 (13 balls) 59-5

That was the last success for the visitors as Oliver Tyson 14no (33 balls) and Toby Tyson 5no (19 balls) saw Kendal home on 76-5 in 26.4 overs

The Longridge wicket takers were Daniel Wilson took 2-26 from 8.4 overs, William Vause 1-9 off 4 and Jake Durnell 1-23 from 7

Lancaster v Fulwood & Broughton

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first, Steven Fisher was out in the first over bowled by Jon Fenton for 0 (2 balls) 2-1,

Atharva Taide joined Jamie Heywood and they had put on 41 runs when Heywood was caught behind by Mark Smith off James Lupton for 13 (22 balls) 43-2. Eddie Steinson replaced Heywood and with Taide took the score to 140 when Ewen Mansford was introduced into the attack and took two wickets in his first over

His first wicket was Eddie Steinson caught by Jon Fenton for 40 (68 balls) 140-3 then next ball bowling David Rippengal for 0 (1 ball) 140-4. Laurie Atkinson was Taide's next partner but became Mansford's third victim bowled for 6 (16 balls) 160-5

Mansford then accounted for David Steinson stumped by Mark Smith for 1 (6 balls) 166-5, Ben Simm joined Taide and they put on 39 runs when Simm became another Mansford victim caught by Ben Rosbottom for 20 (22 balls) 205-6. Mansford took his sith wicket trapping Irfan Qayyum for 0 (2 balls) 205-7

Atharva Taide had reached his century and was keeping one end going, Damar Grahm was the next to support Taide but was run out by |Mansford for 11 (19 balls) 232-9. Ewen Mansford closed the Lancaster innings bowling Lee Sparks for 6 (6 balls) with the total on for 247 in 46.4 overs. Atharva Taide was undefeated on 132 (117 balls) (14x4 1x6)

Ewen Mansford took 7-42 in 10.4 overs, James Lupton 1-60 off 8 and Jon Fenton 1-67 from 13

In reply the visitors had a disastrous start losing both openers on 3, James McWilliam was bowled by Damar Graham for 0 (4 balls) 3-1 followed by Mike Sambell lbw to Irfan Qayyum for 3 (3 balls) 3-2

Jon Fenton and Lewis Wellings started the rebuild, but on 20 Wellings was bowled by Damar Graham for 8 (15 balls) 20-3. Damar Graham struck again having Ben Rosbottom caught behind by Lee Sparks for 0 (8 balls) 28-4

Ben Parkinson was Fenton's next partner but soon fell caught by Damar Graham off Ben Simm for 10 (17 balls) 51-5, Ewen Mansford after his bowling heroics endeavoured to stay with Fenton but on making 16 (37 balls) he was trapped lbw by Atharva Taide, 80-6

Jon Fenton's fighting innings came to an end caught behind by Lee Sparks off Ben Simm for 38 (83 balls) 80-7, The visitors tail fought to stave off defeat but the end was in sight, James Lupton was bowled by Damar Graham for 8 (18 balls) 92-8

The hundred was reached but signalled the loss of another wicket Dominic Jackson bowled by Atharva Taide for 9 (12 balls) 103-9, Damar Graham took his fifth wicket and closed the visitors innings when he trapped Chris Brookes lbw for 2 (5 balls). Longridge were bowled out for 117 in 38.1 overs with Mark Smith 12no (37 balls).

Damar Graham took 5-33 from 12.1 overs, Atharva Taide 2-10 off 7, Ben Simm 2-24 from 7 and Irfan Qayyum 1-17 off 5

Leyland v St Annes

St Annes travelled to the Stanning Memorial Groubd knowing they needed six points to remain in the league. Leyland won the toss and decided to bat first, they were bowled out for 143 in 46.2 overs.

Saliya Saman top scored with 50 (78 balls) with Jacob Wright 20 (46 balls), Karl Cross 13 (23 balls) and vital contributions from No 9 Andrew Jacques 12 (47 balls) and no 10 Ian Farrington 19no (49 balls)

Tom Higson lead from the front taking 4-27 from 9.2 overs, Tom Bradley 4-33 off 12 and Harry Birkman 2-29 from 9.

St Annes in bowling out the hosts claimed 3 bonus points needing only three more for safety

In reply Tom Higson gave the visitors a chance with 47 (55 balls), Nathan Armstrong and Alex Bradley looked to have put St Annes in sight of victory but the introduction of Nathan McDonnell changed all that.

He had Nathan Armstorng lbw for 25 (35 balls) and Alex Bradley caught by Iain Critchley for 14 (47 balls) then took two more quick wickets as the visitors tail collapsed and they were bowled out for 139 in 36 overs

Nathan McDonnell took 4-8 from 5 overs, Iain Critchley 2-22 off 7, Michael Birchall 2-26 from 9 and Saliya Saman 1-17 off 7

St Annes may have lost the game but they gained 3 batting bonus points and so avoided any chance of being relegated

Morecambe v Garstang

Morecambe entered the match knowing that they needed five points from the game to avoid any chance of being relegated. Morecambe won the toss at Woodhill Lane and elected to bat first

The opening pair of Lewis Smith and Kieran Moffat had reached 21 when Danny Gilbert had Lewis Smith caught by Dan Curwem for 9 (33 balls) 21-1, two balls later he bowled Rongsen Jonathan for 0 (2 balls) 21-2

Things did not improve for the home side with Kieran Moffat falling to Ian Walling's first ball of the over caught behind by Matthew Crowther for 12 (30 baslls) 29-3. with his third ball of the over he had Luke Pearson caught by Mark Walling for 0 (2 balls) 29-4

Morecambe were in trouble Ryan Pearson and Andy Bird fought to rebuild the innings but with the total on 50 Morecambe for the third time lost 2 wickets on the same score. Andy Bird was bowled by Thomas Speake for 12 (27 balls) 50-5. Ryan Pearson was trapped lbw by Ian Walling for 9 (15 balls) 50-6

Reuben Orr quickly followed caught by Michael Wellings off Thomas Speake for 1 (4 balls) 51-7. Ian Walling claimed his fourth wicket trapping Liam Moffat lbw for 0 (8 balls) 59-8

The Morecambe innings was in disarray but no 9 Stefan Dixon and no 10 Joel Derham had other ideas and battled away with a partnership of 62 runs when Stefan Dixon was stumped by Matthew Crowther off Mohammed Yusuf for 36 (73 balls) 121-9.

Against all the odds Morecambe batted all their 50 overs and closed on 130-9 with Joel Derham 34no (89 balls) and Loius Backhouse 4no (18 balls)

The Garstang wicket takers were Ian Walling 4-20 from 15 overs, Thomas Speake 2-24 off 6, Danny Gilbert 2-42 from 13 and Mohammes Yusuf 1-15 from 9

Michael Wellings and Michael Walling gave the visitors a good start reaching 40 when Michael Wellings was run out by Lewis Smith for 28 (26 balls), 40-1, New batsman Toby Lush only lasted three balls bowled by Louis Backhouse for 0. 42-2

Paras Dogra joined Walling and they put on 41 when Walling was bowled by Rongsen Jonathan for 20 (44 balls) 83-3, Jonathan struck again with two wickets bowling Mark Walling for 0 (6 balls) 93-4, then trapping Paras Dogra lbw for 34 (54 balls) 98-5

Morecambe were fighting to stay in the league, Stefan Dixon took two wickets, Dan Curwen lbw for 2 (8 balls) 100-6, and Danny Gilbert caught behind by Reuben Orr for 3 (13 balls) 107-7.

Mohammed Yusuf and Matthew Crowther followed the lead of the Morecambe tail and dug in and were in sight of victory when Matthew Crowther fell caught by Kieran Moffat off Stefan Dixon for 8 (21 balls) 123-8

Ian Walling joined Mohammed Yusuf and they saw the visitors home reaching 133-8 in 37 overs with Yusuf 18no (41 balls) and Walling 4no !0 balls)

The Morecambe wicket takers were Stefan Dixon 3-15 from 6 overs, Rongsen Jonathan 3-30 off 14 and Louis Backhouse 1-19 from 5

Morecamb gained only two points from the match and with results from the other games meant that they were relegated
