The Northern Cricket League Review

Once again we had a glorious sunny day for round 2 of the Northern Premier League. There were wins for Chorley, Kendal, Blackpool, Longridge and Netherfield. The St Annes v Lancaster game was a winning draw for St Annes

Chorley v Morecambe

Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and chose to bat first scoring 222-6 in their 50 overs. Siddesh Lad was the hero with 113 with support from Joseph Tiffin 45.

Liam Moffat was the pick of the Morecambe bowlers with 2-29 from 15 overs, Jack White took 2-45 off 15 with Louis Backhouse 1-49 from 10 and Charlie Swarbrick 1-69 off 7

In relpy Morecambe batted steadily but were bowled out in 47.3 overs for 187. Charlie Swarbrick 69 was again their top scorer with Kieran Moffat 35, Ryan Pearson 28 and Luke Pearson 24

James Lee did the damage for Chorley taking 4-36 from 15 overs with Siddesh Lad 3-36 off 11, Kieran McCullagh had 1-7 from 4.3 and Samuel Steeple 1-43 off 5

Fulwood & Broughton v Kendal

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at Highfield and elected to bat. Mark Smith and Matthew Rosbottom opened and were made to fight for their runs, Lukman Vahaluwala made the opening strike bowling Smith for 8 (26 balls), 16-1

Ben Parkinson came in at no3 but lost his partner Matthew Rosbottom another Vahaluwala wicket caught by Chris Miller for 18 (40 balls), 34-2. Eleven runs had been added when Matthew Park took two wickets trapping Ben Rosbottom lbw for 6 (5 balls), 45-3, then had Abhay Negi caught by Chris Miller for 0 (3 balls) 45-4

Mike Sambell joined Ben Parkinson and they settled in to retrieve the situation, their partnership had reached 47 when Ben Parkinson fell lbw to Lukman Vahaluwala for 40 (86 balls) 92-5.

That was the last Kendal success as No6 Sam Berry 40no (42 balls) and Mike Sambell 88no (98 balls) took the hosts to 216-5 in their 50 overs.

The Kendal wicket takers were Lukman Vahaluwala 3-69 from 15 overs and Matthew Park 2-33 off 10.

Chris Miller and Darren Nightingale were the Kendal opening pair, Their's was a cautious start and with the score on 43 Chris Miller was trapped lbw by Abhay Negi for 8 (19 balls) 43-1.

Edward Price was Nightingale's next partner and they added 28 when Price was caught behind by Mike Samball off Abhay Negi for 11 (35 balls), 71-2. Lukman Vahaluwala came in and with Nightingale the partnership was starting to look dangerous but Chris Brookes bowled Nightingale for 80 (84 balls), 124-3

No 5 was Saeed Bariwala who had made 13 (30 balls) when he became Abhay Negi's third victim bowled, 153-4. Lukman Vahaluwala and Joseph Dodds 10no (19 balls) took charge and saw the visitors home reaching 217-4 in 43 overs, Vahaluwala was 80no (78 balls) with 13 fours and 2 sixes.

The Fulwood & Broughton wicket takers were Abhay Negi 3-39 from 14 overs and Chris Brookes 1-30 from 7

Garstang v Blackpool

Blackpool won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and chose to bat first, Garstang got off to a flyer with Danny Gilbert having Tomas King caught behind by Matthew Crowther for 0 (5 balls) in the first over 0-1

Ciaran Johnson was no3 and with Sam Dutton began to rebuild the Blackpool innings, their partnership was 97 when Sam Dutton was stumped by Matthew Crowther off Michael Walling for 54 (58 balls), 97-2

Ciaran Johnson fell one run later to the same combination, caught Crowther bowled Michael Walling 37 (66 balls), 98-3. Sagar Trivadi was next out lbw to Brett Pesler for 5 (16 balls), 113-4.

Joshua Boyne was out one run later for 11 (30 balls) giving Matthew Crowther his fourth victim off Brett Pesler, 114-5. Jake Muncaster and Ben Howarth dug in and added 53 runs when Howarth was trapped lbw by Danny Gilbert for 24 (42 balls), 167-6.

Matthew Grindley was next in but lost his partner Muncaster for 42 (67 balls) with the total on 191, 191-7. The innings closed shortly afterwards with Blackpool 194-7 in their 50 overs, Matthew Grindley 7no (14 balls) and Paul Danson 0no (2 balls)

Brett Pesler was the best of the bowlers with 2-30 from 15 overs, Michael Walling 2-44 off 15, Danny Gilbert 2-54 from 10 and Waris Khan 1-36 off 6. Matthew Crowther had 4 victims behind the stumps.

The Garstang reply was as bad as that of the visitors, Sagar Trivadi bowled Michael Walling for 1 (11 balls) 8-1. The other opener Michael Wellings soon followed caught by Tomas King off Matthew Grindley for 5 (13 balls) 11-2

Like the visitors the home side dug in and fought back with Brett Pesler and Mark Walling, they took the score to 87 when Pesler was caught and bowled by Joshua Boyne for 52 (55 balls) 87-3.

Mark Walling soon followed bowled by Matthew Siddall for 27 (57 balls) 91-4, Siddall struck again trapping Dan Curwen lbw for 8 (11 balls) 100-5. Matthew Crowther was no6 and tried to hold the innings together.

Danny Gilbert was the next wicket to fall bowled by Sagar Trivadi for 1 (6 balls), 104-6, The Blackpool score looked along way off when Mark Winstanley was caught by Joshua Boyne off Matthew Siddall for 1 (13 balls) 119-7

Matthew Crowther and Ben Woodruff battled to get back in the game but the return of Matthew Grindley was the end of Crowther caught by Matthew Siddall for 21 (39 balls), 159-8. The end was nigh Waris Khan was caugt behind by Ben Howarth off Grindley for 0 (4 balls) 159-9

The innings ended and victory for Blackpool when Sagar Trivadi bowled Thomas Peake for 1 (4 balls) 161 all out. Ben Woodruff was undefeated on 27 (38 balls)

For Blackpool Sagar Trivadi 3-28 from 10.3 overs, Matthew Siddall 3-34 off 13 and Matthew Grindley 3-37 from 8

Longridge v Leyland

Leyland won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and chose to bat, They were bowled out for 205 in 47 overs, Their top scorer was Kurtis Watson 82 with assists Iain Critchley 36, Andrew Makinson 20 and 19 from Joe Wallwork-Woods

The Longridge wicket takers were Jonathan Millward 4-37 from 14.5 overs, Daniel Wilson 4-49 off 15 and Caleb Bradford 2-53 from 8

Longridge lost Luke Platt early for 1 but Joshua Mullin 69 (101 balls) and James Whitehead 57 (106 balls) put the home side in a strong position, but when Kurtis Watson bowled Mullin and ran out Whitehead the game was on.

The Longridge hero was Thomas Turner 28no in 13 ballls which saw the hosts home on 208-6 in 50.4 overs

David Makinson took 3-62 from 13.2 overs and Kurtis Waton 2-50 off 15

Netherfield v Fleetwood

Netherfield won the toss at Parkside Road and decided to bat first, Ben Barrow was the first out trapped lbw by Alex Ryder for 16, 16-1, Josh Dixon and Shrikant Mundhe had a partnership of 75 when Ben Reader bowled Josh Dixon for 26 91-2

Bradley Earl joned Mundhe and they took the score to 180-3 when Earl was run out for 47. Shrikant Mundhe was next out for 102 caught by Will Reader off Emilio Gray, 226-4. Finlay Richardson 59no and James Bowman 29no saw Netherfield to the close of their innings without further loss finishing on 287-4 in their 50 overs.

The Fleetwood reply never got off the ground, Emilio Gray was caught by Josh Dixon off Shrikant Mundhe for 4, 4-1, Adam Sharrocks soon followed lbw to Mundhe for 0, 8-2

Ben Reader was caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Matt Jackson for 4, 16-3. Jackson took two quick wickets having Tom Wilson caught by Isaac Medhusrt for 0 16-4, then Alex Ryder caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 0, 18-5

Charlie Clark and Jeremy Davies worked hard to turn it round, Clark fell bowled by Richie Forsyth for 23, 56-6, Davies was out next for 19 caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Oli Wileman. 62-7

Zac Coultas was run out by Isaac Medhurst for 8, 77-8, The return of Shrikant Mundhe saw the end of James Gregson lbw 6, 83-9. the end came when Lewis Richardson trapped Jack Wilkinson lbw for 2. Fleetwood all out for 107 in 36 overs. Will Reader was undefeated on 16

Shrikant Mundhe took 3-26 from 8 overs, Matt Jackson 3-26 off 9, Richie Forsyth 1-6 from 5, Oli Wileman 1-17 off 7 and Lewis Richardsin 1-17 from 3

St Annes v Lancaster

St Annes batted first at Vernon Road and were bowled out for 237 in 49.1 overs, Luke Jardine top scored with 76 with contributions from Alex Bradley 58,Nathan Bolus 27, Tom Higson 27, with 19 from Mitch Bolus.

Ben Simm took 6-68 from 15 overs with Irfan Qayyum 2-66 off 14.1Faizan Khan 1-11 from 2

In reply Lancaster were 222-8 in their 50 overs thanks to Laurie Atkinsomn with 103no, David Rippengal 39, Stuart Els 28 and Ben Simm 19no

Harry Birkmam had the best bowling figures 3-30 from 13 overs, Mitch Bolus 2-40 off 8, Matthew Yeadon 2-57 from 10 and Tom Higson 1-66 off 14
