The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 21 of the Northern Premier League saw Blackpool win and become Champions of the League, Fulwood & Broughton defeated Fleetwood which resulted in Fleetwood being relegated and Fulwood & Broughton safe from relegation

There were wins for Garstang, Longridge and Netherfield, The winning draw for Chorley against Leyland means they are in a three way tie for the final relegation spot

Chorley v Leyland

Leyland won the toss at Windsor Park and invited the hosts to bat first. Chorley made 251-7 in their 50 overs, Siddesh Lad leading the way with 144 (14x4, 8x6) supported by No 9 Samuel Steeple 42no and Harry Barclay 28

The Leyland wicket takers were Iain Critchley 5-77 from 13 overs, David Makinson 1-32 off 6 and Karl Cross 1-44 from 13

In rpley Leyland were 162-8 at the close, Karl Cross 44no top scored with Jacob Wright 37, Nathan McDonnell 27 and Andrew Makinson 22

Will Moulton took 4-31 from 13 overs, Samuel Steeple 2-32 off 8, Keiran McCullagh 1-30 from 8 and Louis Johnson 1-36 off 13.

This result keeps Chorley's hopes of avoiding relegation alive with the chance of victory in the last match when they play bottom club Fleetwood

Fulwood & Broughton v Fleetwood

Fleetwood won the toss at the Highfield ground and put the hosts into bat, Matthew Rosbottom and Jon Fenton opened and were very watchful of the Fleetwood attack, the score was 23 when Jon Fenton was out caught behind by Harry McAleer off Jeremy Davies for 9 (33 balls) 23-1

Matthew Smith came in at 3 and with Rosbottom took the score to 48 when Rosbottom was trapped lbw by Dyllan Matthews for 17 (52 balls) 48-2. Mike Sambell joined Smith but was soon out caught by Declan Clerkin off Dyllan Matthews for 4 (11 balls) 68-3

Abhay Negi was next in and with Smith kept the scorebaord ticking over until Dyllan Matthews trapped Matthew Smith lbw for 40 (55 balls) 105-4. Negi scoring at a run a ball was the next wicket to fall caught by Tom Smith off Dyllan Matthews for 36 (36 balls). 130-5

Ben Rosbottom was keepng one end going but lost Ben Parkinson caught and bowled by Declan Clerkin for 4 (11 balls) 141-6, Dyllan Matthews took his fifth and sixth wickets firstly that of James McWilliam caught and bowled for 1 (7 balls) 144-7 then two balls later having Dominic Jackson caught behind by Harry McAleer for 0 (2 balls) 144-8

Chris Brookes joined Ben Rosbottom and their partnership was 33 when Rosbottom was run out by Declan Clerkin for 49 (74 balls) 177-9. The hosts innings closed on 180-9 in their 50 overs with Brookes 8no (20 balls) and James Lupton 1no (3 balls)

Dyllan Matthews took 6-56 from 15 overs, Declan Clerkin 1-6 off 3 and Jeremy Davies 1-40 from 10

In a match the visitors needed to win they got off to a bad start losing Joseph Davis bowled by Abay Negi for 3 (9 balls) 9-1, Harry McAlleer and Jeremy Davies took on the task but on 33 McAleer was out lbw to Jon Fenton for 10 (33 balls) 33-2

Four runs had been added to the total when Jeremy Davies was bowled by Abhay Negi for 22 (19 balls) 37-3. Abhay Negi struck again trapping Dyllan Matthews lbw for 0 (8 balls), 49-4. Tom Wilson was the next wicket to fall caught by Dominic Jackson off Matthew Smith for 14 (25 balls) 60-5

Adam Sharrocks and Declan Clerkin dug in and began to rebiuld the innings but the introduction of Dominic Jackson into the attack changed everything, in his first over he had Adam Sharrocks stumped by Mike Sambell for 22 (74 balls) 106-6

There had been no further addition to the score when Declan Claerkin was caught by Dominic Jackson off Abhay Negi for 23 (36 balls) 106-7. The wheels then came off the Fleetwood innings as Dominic Jackson cleaned up the tail.

He bowled Alex Ryder for 1 (9 balls) 110-8, then trapped Jack Wilkinson lbw for 0 (5 balls) 110-9, He ended the visitors innings having James Gregson caught by Ben Rosbottom for 3 (18 balls) with Fleetwood 111 all out in 39.1 overs with Scott Whittaker 0no (0 balls)

Dominic Jackson took 4-1 in 3.1 overs, Abhay Negi 4-40 from 14, Jon Fenton 1-17 off 7 and Matthew Smith 1-21 from 6

This victory means that Fulwood & Broughton are nolonger in danger of being relegated and that Fleetwood are relegated to the Palace Shield

Garstang v Lancaster

Garstang won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and elected to bat first, The hosts were bowled out for 129 in 34.2 overs thanks to Michael Walling 38 and Danny Gilbert 36

For Lancaster Irfan Qayyum took 4-30 from 13 overs, Atharva Taide 3-39 off 9.2 and Damar Graham 3-52 from 11

In reply Lancaster were bowled out for 112 in 34.1 overs, the main contributors being Jamie Heywood 30 and Irfan Qayyum 22.

The Garstang wicket takers were Mohammed Yusuf 4-42 from 13 overs, Danny Gilbert 3-32 off 6.1 and Ian Walling 1-35 from 15

The two other wickets to fall were the openers both run out

Longridge v Morecambe

Morecambe won the toss at the Newsham Memorial Cricket gound and invited the hosts to bat first, Longridge made 235-6 in their 50 overs with Zac Christie 104 and Daniel Wilson 92

Liam Moffatt took 4-70 from 15 overs with Joel Derham 2-44 off 13

Morecambe in reply were bowled out for 165 in 40.5 overs with Ryan Pearson 32 and Keiran Moffat 21 of the top order and three of the last four scoring over twenty, Liam Moffat 23, Stefan Dixon 25 and Andy Bird 20no

Doing the damage for Longridge were Jake Durnell 4-52 from 11 overs, William Vause 3-30 off 8.5 and Daniel Wilson 3-38 ftom 13

This result leaves Morecambe in danger of being relegated in a fight with Chorley and St Annes on the last day of the season

Netherfield v Kendal

In the Cumbrian derby at Parkside Road Netherfield won the toss and chose to bat first, Openers Ben Barrow and Josh Dixon got the hosts off to a brilliant start with an opening partnership of 106 ended when Ben Barrow was stumped by Shane Hyland off Chris Miller for 64 (97 balls) 106-1

Shrikant Mundhe joined Dixon and had added 44 runs when Miller struck again, having Mundhe caught by Paul Dodds for 20 (26 balls) 150-2, Soon afterwards Chalana De Silva had Finlay Richardson caught behind by Shane Hyland for 4 (8 balls) 158-3

The total was 167 when Kendal struck a double blow taking two wickets, firstly Bradley Earl was bowled by Chris Miller for 8 (8 balls) 167-4, then Chalana De Silva had Josh Dixon caught by Matthew Park for 65 (121 balls) 167-5

Chris Miller took his fourth wicket Lewis Richardson lbw for 1 (6 balls) 168-6. James Bowman had made 4 (6 balls) when he to was out lbw this time to Chalana De Silva, 172-7. Richie Forsyth was run out by Matthew Park in the last over for 9 (12 balls) 191-8

Netherfield closed their innings on 195-8 with Oli Wileman 13no (16 balls)

Chris Miller took 4-57 from 15 overs and Chalana De Silve 3-54 off 15

The Kendal repy got off to a bad start losing Darren Nightingale for 4 (9 balls) caught by Richie Forsyth off Shrikant Mundhe,12-1, things got worse with the loss of a further two quick wickets, opener Chris Miller was caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Samuel Medhurst for 16 (36 balls) 24-2, quickly followed by Harry Lee caught behind off Matt Jackson for 4 (27 balls) 26-3

Chalana De Silve took most of the strike and with Oliver Tyson moved the score to 65 when Tyson was caught behind off Samuel Medhurst for 7 (10 balls) 65-4, Paul Dodds replaced Tyson but fell for 1-(6 balls) caught by Ben Barrow off Samuel Medhurst, 75-5

Any chance of winning or saving the game went when Chalana De Silva was bowled by Shrikant Mundhe for 48 (44 balls), 92-6, Shane Hyland and Toby Tyson dug in but were separated when Tyson was caught by Samuel Medhurst off Oli Wileman for 8 (21 balls) 105-7

Matthew Park replaced Tyson and battled away,Shane Hyland was next out lbw to Matt Jackson for 20 (62 balls) 124-8, Samuel Medhurst removed the remaining tail, first bowling Alec Carradus for 0 (7 balls) 125-9, then closing the innings on 131 in 43.2 overs by bowling Kuldeep Singh for 4 (11 balls), Matthew Park was undefeated on 12no (32 balls)

Samuel Medhurst took 5-21 from 9.2 overs, Shrikant Mundhe 2-19 off 7, Matt Jackson 2-27 from 11 and Oli Wileman 1-19 off 8

St Annes v Blackpool

In an important game for both sides, for Blackpool win and be champions, for St Annes win and be safe from relegation. St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and decided to bat first

Tom Higson and Luke Jardine opened the batting and had reached 23 when Jamie Thomson bowled Higson for 16 (14 balls), 23-1. Nathan Bolus came in at 3 but lost Luke Jardine bowled by Jamie Thomson for 6 (22 balls) 31-2

Alex Bradley replaced Jardine and with Bolus they made steady progress, but on reaching 54 Matthew Grindley bowled Alex Bradley for 9 (21 balls) 54-3. Matthew Siddall was introduced into the attack and in his third over had Ashton Charles caught by Sam Dutton for 5 (11 balls) 68-4

Matthew Siddall took three wickets in two overs, the first Nathan Bolus caught by Ockert Erasmus for 30 (69) 75-5, the second Nathan Bend caught behind by Ben Howarth for 0 (2 balls)75-6, the third Harry Birkman bowled for 0 (4 balls) 75-7

Andy Drake dug in to try and stabilize the home teams innings, he was joined by Tom Bradley and they slowly added to the score, however with the total on 95 Tom Bradley was caught behind by Ben Howarth off Matthew Siddall for 15 (29 balls) 95-8

James Bradley came to the crease and fought to keep the scorebaord ticking over, he however lost Andy Drake lbw to Joshua Boyne for 9 (55 balls) 115-9. Matthew Siddall claimed his sixth wicket and closed the St Annes innings on 116 in 44.4 overs by trapping Curtis Fletcher lbw for 0 (4 balls), James Bradley was undefeated on 11 (37 balls)

The Blackpool hero was Matthew Siddall taking 6-26 from 14.4 overs, Jamie Thomson took 2-20 off 7, Joshua Boyne 1-4 from 1 and Matthew Grindley 1-31 off 8

Blackpool got off to a bad start losing Sam Dutton caught by Nathan Bend off Harry Birkman for 4 (4 balls) 5-1, Tomas King was next bowled by Harry Birkman for 8 (14 balls) 20-2, two wickets then fell with the score on 22, Ockert Erasmus bowled by Harry Birkman for 1 (10 balls) 22-3 then Ciaran Johnson lbw to Tom Higson for 9 (29 ) 22-4

Joshua Boyne and Jake Muncaster dug in and started to rebuild the visitors innings, Tom Higson struck trapping Joshua Boyne lbw for 7 (32 balls) 41-5, Ben Howarth replaced Boyne and knuckled down to the task ahead. they had added 21 runs when Muncaster was caught by Nathan Bend off Tom Higson for 19 (56 balls) 62-6

Matthew Grindley was next in and continued the fight, they had taken the visitors within sight of victory when Nathan Bolus bowled Matthew Grindley for 18 (58 balls) 111-7. Ben Howarth 37no (71 balls) saw Blackpool home and the championship closing on 117-7 in 45.5 overs. Paul Danson was 0no (2 balls)

The St Annes wicket takers were Harry Birkman 2-20 from 8 overs, Tom Higson 3-22 off 15 and Nathan Bolus 1-5 from 1.5

Blackpool are Champions and St Annes have to take 6 points from their final game to be certain of saftey
