The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 20 of the Northern Premier League saw the battle of the top two end in a winning draw for Longridge leaving Blackpool needing only 6 points from the last two matches to be champions.

In the relegation battle there were wins for Fulwood & Broughton and St Annes.

There were also wins for Garstang,Lancaster and Netherfield

Chorley v Lancaster

Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and elected to bat first, they were bowled out for 132 in 46.5 overs.

Siddesh Lad top scored with 58, Joseph Tiffin 22no (42 balls) and Andrew Holdsworth 11 (21 balls) the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

The Lancaster wicket takers were Atharva Taide 4-36 from 15 overs, David Srienson 3-19 off 6.5, Ben Simm 2-28 from 6 and Irfan Qayyum 1-19 off 11

In reply the visitors lost Jamie Heywood for 1 (7 balls) and Steven Fisher for 17 (44 balls) then Atharva Taide 69no (79 balls) and Eddie Steinson 35no (44 balls) took control and saw Lancaster home reaching 135-2 in 28.5 overs

Louis Johnson took 1-14 from 6 overs and Gaurav Dhar 1-24 off 4

Fulwood & Broughton v Morecambe

Morecambe won the toss at the Highfield ground and invited the hosts to bat first, James McWilliam and Jon Fenton opened the batting, McWiiliam fell in the opening over lbw to Liam Moffat for 0 (5 balls) 0-1

Matthew Smith came in at no3, with the total on 25 Fenton was bowled by Liam Moffat fot 13 (21 balls), 25-2. Mike Smabell joined Smith but on reaching 7 (20 balls) he became Moffat's third victim caught by Alex Briggs, 41-3.

Abhay Negi was next in and with Smith had a partnership of 68, Negi was out for 36 (39 balls) caught by Joel Derham off Lewis Smith, 109-4. Ben Rosbottom took over from Negi and they kept the scoreboard ticking over, but with the score on 179 Smith's long and patient innings came to an end bowled by Stefan Dixon for 76 (92 balls) 179-5

Ben Parkinson replaced Smith and had made 5 (10 balls) when Dixon had him caught by Joel Derham 185-6. Lewis Wellings was Rosbottom's next partner and they were going along nicely until Rosbottom was run out by Ryan Pearson for 39 (70 balls) 218-7

Only one run had been added when Wellings was bowled by Joel Derham for 20 (22 balls) 219-8. James Lupton fell lbw to Stefan Dixon for 7 (8 balls) 225-9, Dominic Jackson 18no (7 balls) and Arbab Munir 4no (7 balls) saw the innings to the close on 248-9

For Morecambe Stefan Dixon took 3-55 from 9 overs, Liam Moffat 3-57 off 15, Lewis Smith 1-24 from 8 and Joel Derham 1-51 off 10

Morecambe got off to a disastrous start losing both openers early, Lewis Smith was the first to go bowled by Jon Fenton for 1 (10 balls) 1-1, Alex Briggs quickly followed bowled by Abhay Negi for 0 (2 balls) 1-2

Rongsen Jonathan and Ryan Pearson tried to retrieve the situation but with only 19 on the board Jonathan was out caught by Matthew Smith off Jon Fenton for 12 (38 balls) 19-3, things got worst for the visitors new batsman Gareth Pedder was out lbw to Negi for 1 (7 balls) 24-4

Abhay Negi struck again trapping Ryan Pearson lbw for 10 (29 balls) 29-5. Luke Pearson and Freddie Deeks dug in and had taken the total to 61 when Pearson was bowled by Dominic Jackson for 23 (41 balls) 61-6

Dominic Jackson then had Reuben Orr lbw for 4 (5 balls) 65-7, The hosts were now closing in on victory, Arbab Munir had Liam Moffat stumped by Mike Sambell for 7 (15 balls) 72-8. only four runs had been added when Joel Derham was caught by Lewis Wellings off Dominic Jackson for 0 (5 balls) 76-9

Victory came to Fulwwod & Broughton with Dominic Jackson having Stefan Dixon caught by Mattew Smith for 0 (6 balls) Morecambe were bowled out for 83 in 34 overs with Freddie Deeks 21no (47 balls)

Dominic Jackson took 4-31 from 8 overs, Abhay Negi 3-16 off 9, Jon Fenton 2-13 from 9 and Arbab Munir 1-19 off 8

Garstang v Kendal

Kendal won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and chose to bat first, the opening pair of Chris Miller and Darren Nightingale gave them a good start with a partnership of 52, Miller was bowled by Mohammed Yusuf for 22 (26 balls) 52-1

Harry Lee came in but was soon out caught by Michael Walling off Mohammed Yusuf for 0 (7 balls) 56-2, Chalana De Silva replaced Lee and with Nightingale moved the score along until Mohammed Yusuf had Darren Nightingale caught by Punit Bisht for 41 (52 balls) 83-5

Ben Phillips joined De Silva and looked to have turned the innings round but the reintroduction of Danny Gilbert into the attack changed everything. He bowled Chalana De Silva for 51 (37 balls) 130-4

One run had been added when he had Ben Phillips caught behind by Matthew Crowther for 13 (29 balls) 131-5. The wheels then came off the Kendal innings losing five wickets for three runs.

Shane Hyland was the first caught behind by Matthew Crowther off Gilbert for 2 (8 balls) 135-6, next Toby Tyson lbw to Gilbert for 0 (2 balls) 135-7. Gilbert then bowled Oliver Yarker for 0 (1 ball) 137-8.

Thomas Speake took the final two wickets, Chris Toward caught by Dan Curwen for 0 (5 balls) 138-9, then he had Kuldeep Singh caught and bowled for 0 (4 balls) as Kendal were bowled out for 138 in 32 overs. Oliver Tyson was 5no (15 balls)

Danny Gilbert finnished with 5-31 from 9 overs supported by Mohammed Yusuf 3-50 off 7 with Thomas Speake 2-1 from 1 over

Michael Wellings and Michael Walling opened for Garstang but lost Wellings bowled Chris Miller for 9 (13 balls) 18-1. Toby Lush came in at three and had made 13 (20 balls) when he was trapped lbw by Toby Tyson 39-2

Punit Bisht joined Walling and they took the score to 86 when Walling was bowled by Chalana De Silva for 30 (63 balls) 86-3. The visitors were given hope when they claimed two quick wickets, Punit Bisht was caught by Ben Phillips off Kuldeep Singh for 34 (44 balls) 88-4, Chalana De Silva trapped Dan Curwen lbw for 0 (8 balls) 89-5

Mark Walling steadied the ship and with Matthew Crowther moved the score onto 104 when Crowther fell lbw to Kuldeep Singh for 2 (19 balls). That proved to be the last success for the visitors, Danny Gilbert followed his exploits with the ball to see the hosts home on 141-6 in 47.1 overs, Gilbert was 25no (36 balls) and Mark Walling 23no (75 balls)

The Kendal wicket takers were Chalana De Silva 2-25 from 15 overs, Kuldeep Singh 2-43 off 14, Chris Miller 1-34 from 9.1 and Toby Tyson 1-34 off 9

Longridge v Blackpool

Longridge batted first at the Newsham Memorial ground and made 187-4 in their 50 overs thanks to Luke Platt 69 supported by Zac Christie 62 and Joshua Mullin 36.

For Blackpool Matthew Siddall took 1-28 from 15 overs, Joshua Boyne 1-38 off 15 and Matthew Grindley 1-74 from 14

In reply Blackpool were 177-9 at the close, Ben Howarth 43 top scoring with contributions from Paras Dogra 25 and Matthew Grindley 21

Jonathan Millward took 3-44 from 15 overs, Daniel Wilson 3-45 off 15 and William Vause 3-49 from 7

This result means Blacckpool need three points from the last two games to be champions

Netherfield v Leyland

Leyland won the toss at Parkside Road and chose to bat first, they were bowled out for 124 in 47.3 overs. James Rounding top scored with 32 (56 balls), Saliya Saman made 20 (44 balls) with Jacob Wright 18 (39 balls) and Karl Cross 14 (25 balls)

The Netherfield wicket takers were Richie Forsyth 5-31 from 15 overs, Matt Jackson 3-14 off 14 and Oli Wileman 2-16 from 6.3

In reply Netherfield knocked off the runs in 32.4 overs closing on 127-1, Josh Dixon was the man out for 30 (74 balls). Ben Barrow lead the way with 82no (90 balls) along with Richie Forsyth 15no (33 balls)

Nathan McDonnell was the Leyland wicket taker with 1-20 from 4 overs

St Annes v Fleetwood

In a match crucial to both sides in this relegation battle St Annes won the toss and elected to bat first at Vernon Road, Tom Higson and Luke Jardine opened but with the score on 22 Higson was out lbw to Declan Clerkin for 15 (20 balls) 22-1

Luke Jardine followed him shortly afterwards again lbw to Alex Ryder for 15 (33 balls) 31-2. Nathan Bolus and Nathan Armstrong batted on without taking any chances but when their partnership had reached 40 Bolus was caught and bowled by Dyllan Matthews for 18 (55 balls) 71-3

Andy Drake joined Armstrong and they put on 41 runs before Drake was bowled by Jeremy Davies for 19 (29 balls) 112-4, Nathan Armstrong's patient innings came to an end when he was stumped by Harry McAleer off Dyllan Matthews for 43 (103 balls) 118-5

Alex Bradley and Nathan Bend took over but Bend fell for 11 (12 balls) caught behind by Harry McAleer off Jeremy Davies, 139-6. Dyllan Matthews had Harry Birkman lbw for 0 (1 ball) 140-7

Alex Bradley 18no (34 balls) and Tom Bradley 18no (14 balls) saw St Annes reach 167-7 in their 50 overs

Dyllan Matthews took 3-44 from 15 overs, Jeremy Davies 2-31 off 7, Declan Clerkin 1-23 from 9 and Alex Ryder 1-31 off 7

Joseph Davis and Harry McAleer opened for the visitors but Davis fell caught by Nathan Bolus off Mitch Bolus for 0 (6 balls) 5-1. Adam Parker joined McAleer and they were making steady progress until McAleer was caught by Andy Drake off Mitch Bolus for 22 (27 balls) 42-2

Tom Wilson replaced McAleer and with Parker put on 48 runs when Parker was stumped by Alex Bradley off Tom Higson for 33 (62 balls) 90-3. Dyllan Matthew was next in but had only made 12 (14 balls) when he was bowled by Nathan Bolus 113-5

The fall of Tom Wilson's wicket swung the game in the hosts favour, he was bowled by Tom Hison for 35 (62 balls) 115-5, Adam Sharrocks was the next to go caught behind by Alex Bradley off Nathan Bolus for 7 (21 balls) 123-6

Four runs had been added when two wickets fell on the same score, Declan Clerkin lbw to Tom Higson for 5 (8 balls) 127-7, the next ball James Gregson was caught behind by Alex Bradley for 0 (! ball) 127-8

The end was near Jeremy Davies fell lbw to Nathan Bolus for 4 (8 balls) Tom Higson secured the victory having Jack Wilkinson caught by Tom Bradley for 3 (3 balls). Fleetwood were 134 all out in 35.2 overs with Alex Ryder 0no (1 ball)

Tom Higson lead fron the front taking 5-31 from 10.2 overs supported by Nathan Bolus 3-30 off 10 and Mitch Bolus 2-30 from 10

This victory gives St Annes hope to avoid relegation
