The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 18 of the Northern Premier League saw the top three continue on their winning ways along with Netherfield. Garstang had a winning draw aganst St Annes and the Leyland v Morecambe match was abandoned.

The championship looks to be heading to Blackpool but all eyes are now looking at the relegation zone

The teams in danger are Fleetwood, Chorley Fulwood & Broughton and St Annes with Morecambe not safe either.

Fleetwood play St Annes, Fulwood & Broughton and Chorley in their last three games so will have some say in who stays in the League.

Blackpool v Fleetwood

Fleetwood won the toss at Stanley Park and chose to bat first, the openers Jeremy Davies and James Gregson were very watchful of the Blackpool attack but both fell to Jamie Thomson

The first to go was Jeremy Davies trapped lbw for 1 (19 balls) 11-1, followed by James Gregson caught by Joshua Boyne for 4 (22 balls) 13-2. Thomson took his third wicket that of Dyllan Matthews caught by Matthew Grindley for 3 (15 balls) 22-3

Charlie Clark and Tom Wilson dug in and slowly began to rebuild the innings, but disaster struck when Clark was run out by Matthew Siddall for 30 (83 balls) 62-4. Declan Clerkin joined Wilson but on reaching 10 (7 balls) he was out lbw to Matthew Siddall, 80-5

Incoming batsman Adam Sharrocks lasted only 6 balls out caught behind by Ben Howarth off Shivam Chauhan for 1 83-6. Harry McAleer was Wilson's next partner and they battled away until their partnership of 21 was broken by Matthew Siddall bowling Tom Wilson for 29 (63 balls) 104-7

Matthew Siddall took his third wicket that of Alex Ryder lbw for 5 (10 balls) 112-8.

Shivam Chauhan closed the innings taking the last two wickets bowling Wayne Clarke for 2 (6 balls) 117-9 and having James Amor caught by Joshua Boyne for 2 (7 balls) Fleetwood 129 all out in 47.3 overs. Harry McAleer was undefeated on 30no (49 balls)

The Blackpool wicket takers were Jamie Thomson 3-17 from 8 overs, Shivam Chauhan 3-24 off 7.3 and Matthew Siddall 3-51 from 15

In reply the Blackpool openers Tomas King and Sam Dutton had an opening partnership of 110 when King was bowled by Dyllan Matthews for 49, 110-1, Dylan Henshall joined Dutton and saw the hosts home on 130-1 in 24.1 overs. Sam Dtton was 61no (92 balls) and Henshall 9no (7 balls)

Garstang v St Annes

Garstang won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and elected to bat first, In a reduced overs game they made 255-5 in their 45 overs with all the top oder reaching double figures.

Punit Bisht top scored with 62 supported by Michael Walling 39, Mark Walling 39, Michael Wellings 34, Dan Curwen 24no and Toby Lush 23.

The St Annes wicket takers were Curtis Fletcher 2-53 from 10 overs, Tom Higson 1-54 off 11 and Mitch Bolus 1-62 from 12.

The St Annes reply was cut short by the weather and were 120-7 in 35 overs thanks to Nathan Armstrong 60 and Alex Bradley 38no.

Danny Gilbert took 4-17 from 9 overs with Ian Walling 2-26 off 10 and Michael Walling 1-10 from 5

Lancaster v Kendal

Kendal won the toss at Lune Road and decided to bat first, Openers Chris Miller and Toby Tyson had reahed 17 when Miller was caught by Atharva Taide off Irfan Qayyum for 9 (7 balls) 17-1.

Tom Aspinwall replaced Miller but lost Toby Tyson lbw to Qayyum for 12 (22 balls) 28-2, Aspinwall fell 10 runs later caught behind by Lee Sparks off Damar Graham for 15 (20 balls) 38-3

Oliver Tyson and Chalana De Silva kept the scoreboard ticking over and had taken the score to 100 when Tyson was caught by Ben Simm off Atharva Taide for 20 (48 balls), 100-4

Terry Hunte took over from Tyson and with De Silva had put on 28 runs when De Silva was out lbw to Ben Simm for 63 (51 balls) 128-5. David Batty was next in with Hunte took the score to 148 when Hunte was trapped lbw by Atharva Taide for 23 (24 balls) 148-6

The total was 156 when Taide took two wickets in two balls firstly Kuldeep Singh caught by Damar Graham for 4 (6 balls) 156-7, then Joseph Dodds lbw for 0 (1 ball) 156-7.

The Lancaster Pro Atharva Taide took his fifth and sixth wickets to close the innings on 169 in 42.2 overs. Wicket number five A Carradus bowled for 4 (12 balls) 166-9 followed by David Batty caught by Jamie Heywood for 17 (41 balls) 169 all out

Taide took 6-60 from 14.2 overs, Irfan Qayyum 2-36 off 10, Damar Graham 1-25 from 7 and Ben Simm 1-45 off 11

In reply the Lancaster openers Jamie Heywood and Steven Fisher took the score to 58 when Heywood was caught by Toby Tyson off Chalana De Silva for 32 (58 balls) 58-1

Atharva Taide joined Fisher and they took control and took no chances seeing Lancaster to victory on 170-1 in 49.4 overs. Taide was 77no (100 balls) and Steven Fisher 52no (143 balls)

Leyland v Morecambe

Morecambe won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and put the hosts into bat, Leyland got off top a bad start losing both openers early, Liam Moffat removing both, Jacob Wright was bowled for 2 (18 balls) 6-1. James Rounding soon followed caught behind by Reuben Orr for 4 (11 balls) 9-2.

This brought Zain Abbas and Kurtis Waton together and they took the score to 70 when Watson was caught by Rongsen Jonathan off Kieran Moffat for 27 (41 balls) 70-3

In Kieran Moffat's next over he had Karl Cross caught by Joel Derham for 0 (5 balls) 73-4. There had been one run added to the score when Iain Critchley was trapped lbw by Rongsen Jonathan for 0 (5 balls) 74-4.

Abbas was keeping the scoreboard moving but lost his next partner Andrew Makinson lbw to Rongsen Jonathan for 1 (8 balls) 86-6, Joe Wallwork-Woods joined Abbas and the total was 114 when Wallwork-Woods was bowled by Jonathan for 8 (27 balls) 114-7

Ian Farrington replaced Wallwork-Woods and put on 48 with Abbas before he fell caught by Gareth Pedder off Jonathan for 9 (20 balls) 162-8. Louis Backhouse returned to the attack and bowled Michael Birchall for 4 (5 balls) 175-9

Zain Abbas was the last man out for 119 (141 balls) (including 15x4 1x6) caught by Alex Briggs off Rongsen Jonathan as Leyland were bowled out for 177 in 46.5 overs

Rongsen Jonathan took 5-56 from 13.5 overs, Kieran Moffat 2-20 off 7 Liam Moffat 2-32 from 10 and Louis Backhouse 1-55 off 13

The Morecambe reply was curtailed by the rain only facing 1.4 overs closing on 4-1, Luke Pearson out caught behind by Joe Wallwork-Woods off Kurtis Watson for 0 (4 balls), Kieran Moffat was 4no (6 balls)

Longrigde v Fulwood & Broughton

Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and invited the visitors to bat first, The hosts had early success, Jonathan Millward bowling Mark Smith for 4 (6 balls) 4-1, the other opener James McWilliam fell in the next over bowled by William Vause for 0 (2 balls) 4-2

Matthew Smith and Mike Sambell started the fight back and put on 43 runs when Smith was caught behind by Thomas Turner off Jonathan Millward for 20 (24 balls) 47-3. Millward struck again bowling Ben Parkinson for 4 (11 balls) 51-4

Jonathan Millward took his fourth wicket bowling Abhay Negi for 8 (15 balls) 62-5. Things went from bad to worse when Lewis Wellings was bowled by Damiel Wilson for 0 (6 balls) 63-6.

Jon Fenton joined Mike Sambell battled to retrieve the situation but with the score on 86 Mike Sambell was bowled by Jake Durnell for 36 (96 balls) 86-7. Durnell struck again two balls later having James Lupton caught by Joshua Mullin for 0 (2 balls) 86-8

Dominic Jackson took on the battle and with Fenton had a partnership of 37 taking the score to 123 when Fenton was caught behind by Thomas Turner off William Vause for 17 (63 balls) 123-9

Jonathan Millward closed the visitors innings on 128 all out in 45 overs taking his fifth wicket Dominic Jackson caught by Zac Christie for 26 (44 balls), Chris Brookes was 0no (4 balls)

Jonathan Millward took 5-41 in 15 overs, William Vause 2-34 off 11, Jake Durnell 2-35 from 9 and Daniel Wilson 1-9 off 12

Luke Platt and Joshua Mullin opened for the home side but were parted by Jon Fenton bowling Joshua Mullin for 4 (9 balls) 8-1. Kyle Helm came in at three but gave Jon Fenton his second wicket caught by Dominic Jackson for 8 (18 balls) 20-2

Zac Christie joined Luke Platt and they moved the total on to 48 when Platt was trapped lbw by Abhay Negi for 21 (46 balls) 48-3, Daniel Wilson came in next and backed up Zac Christie but he was out lbw to Chris Brookes for 0 (32 balls) 64-4

That was the last success for the visitors as Zac Christie 61no (79 balls) and Rhys Morgan 29 (43 balls) saw Longridge home on 132-4 in 38.1 overs

The Fulwood & Broughton wicket takers were Jon Fenton 2-58 from 10 overs, Chris Brookes 1-24 off 6 and Abhay Negi 1-29 from 13.1

Netherfield v Chorley

Chorely won the toss at Parkside Road and asked the hosts to bat first, Netherfield made 233-7 in their 50 overs thanks to Josh Dixon 71 supported by Shrikant Mundhe 55, Ben Barrow 43 and Bradley Earl 31

Will Moulton took 3-51 from 11 overs, Guarav Dhar 1-26 off 3 and Samuel Steeple 1-77 from 14

In reply Chorley were bowled out for 57 in 23.2 overs with Andrew Holdsworth 27 and no 11 Chris Harty 14no the only batsmen to reach double figures.

Matt Jackson was the man who destroyed the Chorley innings taking 7-34 in 12 overs with Samuel Medhurst 2-10 from 5.2 overs and Shrikant Mundhe 1-12 off 6
