The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 15 of the Northern Premier League saw results close the gap for clubs in the relegation fight.

There were wins for Garstang, Kendal, Lancaster and Longridge

Leaders Blackpool were held to a winning draw at Leyland

St Annes had winning draw at Chorley with both fighting relegation

Chorley v St Annes

On another sunny day St Annes won the toss at Windsor Park and chose to bat first in a match that was important for both sides who are fighting to avoid relegation.

The opening partnership of Tom Higson and Luke Jardine was parted when Tom Higson was caught behind by Harry Barcly off Siddesh Lad for 9 (13 balls) 10-1

Nathan Bolus came in at 3 but when he had made 5 (14 balls) he was trapped lbw by Siddesh Lad, 20-2. Siddesh Lad took his third wicket that of Luke Jardine caught by Keiran McCullagh for 4 (24 balls) 21-3

Nathan Armstrong and Andy Drake began to rebuild the innings and had moved the score onto 75 when Ian Oakes struck, first he bowled Nathan Armstrong for 36 (44 balls), 75-4, then he had Nathan Bend caught by Siddesh Lad for 0 (2 balls) 75-5

Andy Drake was joined by Harry Birkman but with the addition of twelve runs Birkman was run out by Harry Barclay for 7 (11 balls) 87-6, the next ball Ian Oakes trapped Mitch Bolus lbw for 0 (1 bal) 87-7

St Annes were in terrible trouble Tom Bradley came in at no9 and with Andy Drake began to build a total that they could give them a chance of victory. their partnership was 76 when Bradley was bowled by Louis Johnson for 27 (57 balls) 163-8

Johnson struck again having James Bradley caught behind by Harry Barclay for 3 (8 balls) 173-9. Andy Drake 81no (117 balls) and Curtis Fletcher 6no (11 balls) saw the visitors close on 192-9

Siddesh Lad took 3-28 from 11 overs, Ian Oakes 3-32 off 9 and Louis Johnson 2-21 from 5

The Chorley reply got off to a disastrous start losing Siddesh Lad first ball caught by Tom Higson off Harry Birkman for 0, 0-1, Birkman struck again having the other opener Louis Johnson caught by Curtis Fletcher for 4 (15 balls) 21-2

Harry Barclay and Keiran McCullagh had the job of getting the home side back in the game, they had taken the score to 44 when Barclay was caught by Harry Birkman off Tom Bradley for 16 (35 balls) 44-3

Tom Bradley then had Ben Simpkins caught by Harry Birkman for 5 (9 balls) 52-4,, Keiran McCullagh was the next wicket to fall bowled by Tom Higson for 29 (24 balls), 57-5.

Things did not improve for the home team when Tom Bradley bowled Andrew Holdsworth for 2 (7 balls) in the 18th over, 67-6. St Annes looked to be favourites and the Chorely tail would have to work very hard just to get a draw

Joseph Tiffin and Will Moulton got their heads down and slowly moved the score along, their partnership was broken by Curtis Fletcher who trapped Tiffin lbw for 25 (61 balls) 113-7. Fletcher took his second wicket having Gaurav Dhar caught by Nathan Armstrong for 11 (17 balls) 133-8

In the 40th over Samuel Steeple fell caught and bowled by Fletcher for 6 (14 balls). 141-9, The Chorley last man was Ian Oakes and with Will Moulton saw the home team to the close finishing on 165-9 with Moultom 38no (83 balls) and Ian Oakes 9no (35 balls)

Tom Bradley took 3-35 from 11 overs, Curtis Fletcher 3-38 off 11, Harry Birkman 2-23 from 9 and Tom Higson 1-39 off 15.

Garstang v Fulwood & Broughton

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and elected to bat first, Mark Smith and Matthew Rosbottom opened with a partnership of 23 when Danny Gilbert bowled Mark Smith for 14 (30 balls) 23-1

Matthew Smith was in next and with Rosbottom put on 45 runs when Smith was caught by Michael Wellings off Mohammed Yusuf for 18 (36 balls) 68-2, Mohammed Yusuf struck again trapping Ben Parkinson lbw for 5 (11 balls) 84-3

Matthew Rosbottom had made 55 (103 balls) when he was caught by Michael Wellings off Punit Bisht, 122-4, Abhay Negi and Mike Sambell kept the scorebaord ticking over but with the total on 169 Sambell was caught by Mark Walling of Mohammed Yusuf for 15 (41 balls) 169-5

The visitors did not lose any further wickets and closed on 192-5 with Abhay Negi 74no (72 balls) and James Lupton 4no (7 balls)

The Garstang wicket takers were Mohammed Yusuf 3-49 from 13 overs, Punit Bisht 1-28 off 7 and Danny Gilbert 1-45 from 11

Garstang got off to a good start but then lost two wickets, Openers Michael Wellings and Tom Wells took the opening partnership to 37 when Wellings was bowled by Chris Brookes for 19 (27 balls) 37-1

Wells followed him one run later trapped lbw Chris Brookes for 17 (26 balls), 38-2. Matthew Crowther and Punit Bisht took on the baton and had taken the score to 91 when Crowther fell lbw to Abhay Negi for 12 (35 balls) 91-3

Mark Walling joined Punit Bisht and looked to be swinging the game in the home teams favour but Bisht was caught by Dominic Jackson off Matthew Smith for 72 (84 balls), 150-4. Ian Walling was in next and had made 12 (19 balls) when he was bowled by Jon Fenton, 174-5

Nineteen run required with five wickets in hand there seemed only one winner but Abhay Negi gave the home side food for thought when he took two quick wickets, firstly trapping Sam Haywood lbw for 0 (1 ball), 175-6 then having Mohammed Yusuf caught behind by Mike Sambell for 2 (8 balls) 179-7

The patient Mark Walling 31no (72 balls) and Danny Gilbert 10no (15 balls) saw Garstang home without further loss closing on 193-7 in 47.5 overs

Abhay Negi took 3-43 from 15 overs, Chris Brookes 2-29 off 8, Matthew Smith 1-32 from 7 and Jon Fenton 1-41 off 10.5

Kendal v Morecambe

Morecambe won the toss at Shap Road and decided to bat first, Lewis Smith and Luke Pearson opened and started slowly, with fourteen runs on the board Smith was caught by Chalana De Silva off Chris Miller for 8 (3o balls), 14-1

Luke Pearson fell for 9 (47 balls) lbw to Chalana De Silva with the total on 42, 42-2, Rongsen Jonathan's next partner was Charlie Swarbrick but with only ten runs added Swarbrick was caught by Chris Miller off De Silva for 8 (19 balls) 52-3.

De Silva struck two balls later trapping Ryan Pearson lbw for 0 (2 balls), 52-4, Alex Briggs steadied the ship but with the score on 80 Briggs was out lbw to Chris Miller, for 7 (45 balls) 80-5, Miller took his third wicket bowling Kieran Moffat for 0 (7 balls) 86-6

Things got worse for the visitors with Reuben Orr caught by Chris Miller off Matthew Park for 0 (1 ball) 89-7, Matthew Park struck again having Liam Moffat lbw for 0 (5 balls) 101-8

Rongsen Jonathan had held the innings together but he was the next to go lbw to Matthew Park for 66 (102) balls), 108-9, Chalana De Silva closed the innings on 108 in 44.5 overs when he bowled Louis Backhouse for 0 (6 balls), Joel Derham was 0no (5 balls)

Chalana De Silva took 4-23 from 12.5 overs, Matthew Park 3-16 off 9 and Chris Miller 3-44 from 15

Kendal got off to a disastrous start losing two quick wickets, firstly Chris Miller was run out by Rongsen Jonathan for 0 (7 balls) 1-1, then Darren Nightingale was caught by Alex Briggs off Liam Moffat for 0 (2 balls) 1-2

Edward Price and Chalana De Silva dug in and slowly rebuilt the innings, but on 49 De Silva fell caught by Ryan Pearson off Kieran Moffat for 33 (46 balls), 49-3, Oliver Tyson joined Price and they were moving toward victory when Price was caught by Alex Briggs off Rongsen Jonathan for 33 (93 balls)) 91-4

Tyson followed four runs later caught and bowled by Jonathan for 21 (48 balls) 95-5, Jonathan then had Kuldeep Singh caught by Louis Backhouse for 1 (8 balls) 101-6.

Terry Hunte took control and saw Kendal to victory closing on 112-6 in 36.5 overs, Hunte was 12no (14 balls) with Shane Hyland 0no (5 balls

The Morecambe wicket takers were Rongsen Jonathan 3-25 from 10.5 overs, Liam Moffat 1-27 off 10, Kieran Moffat 1-20 from 6

Lancaster v Fleetwood

Fleetwood won the toss at Lune Road and invited the hosts to bat first, the opening partnership was 10 when Jamie Heywood was out caught and bowled by James Amor for 1 (10 balls), 10-1

Eddie Steinson and Atharva Taide settled in and they took the score to 79 when Steinson was caught by Jack Wilkinson off Declan Clerkin for 29 (35 balls) 79-2. David Rippengal joined Taide and they continued to put on the runs.

The score reached 144 then the wheels came off for the home team losing five wickets on the same score, Alex Ryder took three wickets in one over, the first to go was David Rippengal caught by Wayne Clarke for 49 (26 balls) (including 6x4 3x6)144-3, Laurie Atkinson was out bowled for 0 (1 ball) 144-4 then two balls later Ryder trapped Drupad Parmar lbw for 0 (2 balls) 144-5

James Amor then took over in the next over taking two wickets, Atharva Taide was caught behind by Charlie Clark for 59 (67 balls), 144-6, three balls later Irfan Qayyum was trapped lbw for 0 (3 balls) 144-7.

Lee Sparks came in and scored a run but was then caught behind by Charlie Clark off Alex Ryder for 1 (2 balls) 145-8, Ben Simm joined David Steinson and they stedied the ship moving the total to 165 when Steinson was caught behind by Charlie Clark of James Amor for 6 (12 balls) 165-9

The inni9ngs closed with Lancaster 188 all out in 35.5 overs, Ben Simm was caught behind by Charlie Clark off James Amor for 29 (36 balls) with Damar Graham 8no (10 balls)

The Fleetwood wicket takers were James Amor 5-43 from 12.5 overs, Alex Ryder 4-62 off 11 and Declan Clerkin 1-39 from 5

Fleetwood got off to a bad start losing Matt Clark caught by Damar Graham off Irfan Qayyum for 2 ( 5 balls) 2-1, Qayyum struck again having Joseph Davis caught behind by Lee Sparks for 4 (10 balls), 20-2

Jeremy Davies was next out caught by Atharva Taide off Damar Graham for 11 (43 balls) 28-3, Charlie Clark and Declan Clerkin had nearly doubled their score when Clark was caught behind by Lee Sparks off Atharva Taide for 19 (29 balls) 52-4

Clerkin soon followed stumped by Lee Sparks off Atharva Taide for 20 (15 balls), 61-5, Taide took his third wicket that of Wayne Clarke caught by Jamie Heywood for 6 (26 balls), 74-6.

Lancaster could sense victory when Atharva Taide took two wickets in an over, first Joseph Warwick caught by Laurie Atkinson for 9 (14 balls) 89-7, then four balls later having Alex Ryder caught by Eddie Steinson for 0 (4 balls) 89-8

Adam Sharrocks added four then he was out caught by Jamie Heywood off David Steinson for 13 (32 balls) 93-9, Taide ended the innings trapping Jack Wilkinson lbw for 0 (12 balls) with the scoe 93 all out in 32 overs

Atharva Taide took 6-25 from 9 overs, Irfan Qayyum 2-20 off 7, David Steinson 1-0 from 1 and Damar Graham 1-20 off 7

Leyland v Blackpool

Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and invited the visitors to bat first, They had early success having Tomas King caught by Jacob Wright off Karl Cross for 4 (8 balls) 10-1

Sam Dutton was bowled by Michael Birchall with the score on 22 for 15 (17 balls), 22-2, Ciaran Johnson and Shivam Chauhan took complete control with a partnership of 204, they were parted when Chauhan was caught by James Rounding off Iain Critchley for 101 (85 balls) (15x4), 226-3

Joshua Boyne joined Johnson and they added fifty two runs when Johnson was caught by Iain Critchley off David Makinson for 108 (149 balls) (11x4 1x6) in the 48th over 278-4, Jake Muncaster was out caught by Ian Farrington off David Makinson for 6 (7 balls) in the last over 285-5

Blackpool's innings closed on 295-5 with Joshua Boyne 46no (42 balls) with Ben Howarth 0no

The Leyland wicket takers were David Makinson 2-79 from 12 overs, Karl Cross 1-52 off 15, Michael Birchall 1-65 from 10 and Iain Critchley 1-69 off 12

Jacob Wright and James Rounding gave the hosts a steady start reaching 37 when Rounding was lbw to Joshua Boyne for 28 (33 balls) 37-1, Wright's new partner was Kurtis Watson and they added 63 runs when Wright was trapped lbw by Shivam Chauhan for 27 (67 balls) 100-2

Karl Cross was no4 and with Watson took the score to 140 when Watson was caught by Matthew Siddall off Chauhan for 61 (73 balls) 140-3, Chauhan took his third wicket bowling Karl Cross for 28 (43 balls), 175-4.

Leyland lost Iain Critchley lbw to Matthew Grindley for 29 (41 balls)in the 46th over 195-5. The Leyland innings closed on 211-5 with Andrew Makinson 16no (37 balls) and Joe Wallwork-Woods 9no (9 balls)

Shivam Chauhan took 3 -32 from 10 overs, Joshua Boyne 1-33 off 7 and Matthew Grindley 1-59 from 15

Netherfield v Longridge

Longridge won the toss at the Parkside Road ground and made 209-6 in their 50 overs thanks to Zac Christie 70 and Rhys Morgan 69no

Shrikant Mundhe took 3-52 from 12 overs, Matt Jackson 1-24 off 9, Samuel Medhurst 1-33 from 7 and Oli Wileman 1-55 off 12

Netherfield were bowled out for 109 in 37.3 overs, Shrikant Mundhe top scored with 45 and Josh Dixon made 20

Daniel Wilson did the damage taking 5-32 from 13 overs supported by Jake Durnell 3-29 off 9.3, Matt Greenall 1-17 from 8 and William Vause 1-29 off 7
