The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 14 of the Northern Premier League saw Covid effect the fixtures for the first time with two games being postponed Fleetwood v Leyland and St Annes v Netherfield.

On a glorious sunny day League leaders Blackpool played their first game at Stanley Park and came away with a win to increase their lead over closest rivals Longridge

There were also wins for Lancaster and Chorley. The Chorley victory takes them out of the relegation zone.

Garstang had a winning draw with Longridge

Blackpool v Kendal

Blackpool were playing their first game of the season at Stanley Park after gound work, Kendal won the toss and chose to bat first

Chris Miller and Darren Nightingale opened for the visitors but were parted with the total on 11, Matthew Grindley trapped Darren Nightingale lbw for 2 (15 balls), four balls later and Harry Lee was bowled by Grindley for 0 (4 balls) 11-2

Miller and Chalana De Silva battled to turn the game around but with the score on 51 Miller was trapped lbw by Joshua Boyne for 15 (57 balls) 51-3. Saeed Bariwala continued were Miller had left off but on making 5 (31 balls) he was run out by Ben Howarth, 70-4

The introduction of Steven Mercer to the attack resulted in him having Chalana De Silva caught by Sam Dutton for 54 (75 balls) in his first over, 80-5. Terry Hinte followed shortly afterwards caught by Shivam Chauhan off Matthew Siddall for 4 (17 balls) 84-6

Steven Mercer took his second wicket having Kuldeep Singh stumped by Ben Howarth for 2 (15 balls) 89-7, Richard Dakin and Paul Dodds put on seventeen runs when Dakin was trapped lbw by Mercer for 13 (31 balls), 106-8

Wicket number four for Steven Mercer having Matthew Park lbw for 2 (13 balls) 116-9. He the wrapped up the innings having Toby Tyson stumped by Ben Howarth for 2 (9 balls) 120 all out in 47.5 overs, Paul Dodds was 18no (25 balls)

Steven Mercer took 5-33 from 8.5 overs, Matthew Grindley 2-25 off 9, Matthew Siddall 1-20 from 15 and Joshua Boyne 1-39 off 15

Tomas King and Sam Dutton opened for the hosts and had a partnership of 41 when King was caught by Toby Tyson off Chalana De Silva for 14 (26 balls) 41-1.

That was last success for the visitors with Dutton 70no (72 balls) and Ciaran Johnson 26no (54 balls) seeing the leaders home on 121-1 in 25.1 overs

Chalana De Silva took the only wicket for 31 in 9 overs

Fleetwood v Leyland

This Match was postponed due to Covid

Fulwood & Broughton v Chorley

Chorley won the toss at the Riverside ground and invited the hosts to bat first, Mark Smith and Matthew Rosbottom opened and took took the score 19 when Rosbottom was caught behind by Harry Barclay off Samuel Steeple for 7 (29 balls) 19-1

The introduction of Gaurav Dhar into the attack had an immediate effect as he trapped Mark Smith lbw for 15 (42 balls) 35-2. he then bowled Lewis Wellings for 2 (0 balls) 41-3

Matthew Smith and Ben Parkinson began the fight back, their partnership was 42 when Smith was trapped lbw by Ian Oakes for 29 (39 balls) 83-4. Disaster struck for the home team when Abhay Negi was run out by Andrew Holdsworth for 8 (16 balls) 91-5

Nineteen runs had been added when they lost two wickets, Mike Sambell bowled by Ian Oakes for 11 (15 balls) 110-6, then Ben Parkinson was caught behind by Harry Barclay off Gaurav Dhar for 28 (88 balls) 110-7

Dhar took his third wicket bowling Jon Fenton for 2 (8 balls) 115-8, Siddesh Lad caught and bowled Zac Proctor for 3 (8 balls) 122-9. Dominic Jackson 30no (37) and Chris Brookes 14no (17 balls) saw the home team to the close reaching 161 for 9 in their 50 overs

Gaurav Dhar took 4-46 from 15 overs, Ian Oakes 2-36 off 13, Samuel Steeple 1-28 from 7 and Siddesh Lad 1-42 off 15

The visitors got off to a bad start losing Gaurav Dhar for 1 (7 balls) bowled by Abhay Negi, 5-1. Harry Barclay joined Siddesh Lad and they had a partnership of 101 when Barclay was caught behind by Mike Sambell off Abhay Negi for 31 (73 balls) 106-2

Negi took his third wicket Andy Flear caught and bowled for 4 (18 balls) 118-3, Alfie Dobson soon followed caught by Zac Proctor off Abhay Negi for 1 (6 balls) 124-4

Siddesh Lad was controlling the game and supported by Ben Simpkins 6no (26 balls) saw the visitors over the line on 164-4 in 36.4 overs, he was 114no (90 balls) with 13 fours and 4 sixes

Abhay Negi took 4-52 in 13.4 overs

Longridge v Garstang

Garstang won the toss at the Newsham Memorial Ground and elected to bat first, they made 297-6 in their 50 overs thanks to Punit Bisht 106 supported by Michael Walling 78 and Mark Waling 57.

The Longridge wicket takers were Caleb Bradford 2-102 from 15 overs, Matt Greenall 1-42 off 11, William Vause 1-51 from 9 and Daniel Wilson 1-81 off 15

In reply Danny Gilbert and Ian Walling destroyed the Longridge top order and only no 6 Daniel Wilson 85 with Thomas Turner 35 and Matt Greenall 36 gave the home side a respectable score with William Vause 4no and Caleb Bradford 0no seeing them to the close on 197-9

Danny Gilbert took 5-33 from 15 overs with Ian Walling 4-48 off 15

Morecambe v Lancaster

This was the first derby match between the sides since 2017, Lancaster won the toss at Woodhill Lane and decided to bat first. Jamie Heywood and Eddie Steinson got them off to a good start reaching 43 when Heywood was trapped lbw by Rongsen Jonathan for 19 (40 balls) 43-1

Atharva Taide joined Steinson and they put on 51 when Taide was caught by Ryan Pearson off Joel Derham for 23 (21 balls) 94-2, Lancaster lost their third wicket with Rongsen Jonathan trapping Eddie Steinson lbw for 46 (66 balls) 98-3

Laurie Atkinson was no5 but was caught and bowled by Joel Derham for 5 (9 balls) 102-4. David Rippengal and David Steinson played steadily taking the total to 131 when Rippengal was bowled by Joel Derham for 18 (33 balls) 131-5

Steinson was next out bowled by Louis Backhouse for 13 (44 balls) 144-6, Ben Simm and Uzair Shah kept the scoreboard ticking over but on 173 Shah fell caught by Ryan Pearson off Louis Backhouse for 16 (27 balls) 173-7

Irfan Qayyum carried on the progess until he was bowled by Charlie Swarbrick for 16 (12 balls), Lee Sparks was the bowled by Louis Backhouse for 5 (8 balls). Ben Simm was last out for 25 (38 balls) with Lancaster 204 all out in 49.4 overs, Damar Graham was 1no (1 ball)

Joel Graham took 3-46 from 10, Louis Backhouse 3-49 off 12, Charlie Swarbrick 2-38 from 6.4 and Rongsen Jonathan 2-40 off 15

Morecambe got off to a bad start losing Gareth Pedder lbw to Irfan Qayyum for 0 (3 balls) 0-1, Luke Pearson soon followed bowled by Damar Graham for 6 (8 balls) 19-2

Rongsen Jponathan and Charlie Swarbrick began to rebuild the innings but with score on 51 Swarbrick fell lbw to Damar Graham for 22 (25 balls) 51-2, Jonathan lost his partner Ryan Pearson lbw to Atharva Taide for 8 (10 balls) 76-4

No 6 Alex Briggs had scored 9 (25 balls) when he was caught by Damar Graham off Ben Simm, 95-5, Things were looking bad for the home team when on 115 Kieran Moffat was bowled by Atharva Taide for 8 (22 balls) 115-6

Morecambe had reached 134 when all seemed to be lost with the loss of two wickets, Reuben Orr lbw to Ben Simm for 4 (12 balls) 134-7, Ben Simm then had Liam Moffat caught by Laurie Atkinson for 0 (3 balls) 134-8

Morecambe now required 70 runs with only 2 wickets in hand, Rongsen Jonathan was cotrolling the innings and victory looked in sight but with his score on 124 (155 balls) (13 fours and 6 sixes) he was out caught by Laurie Atkinson off Damar Graham, 201-9

Irfan Qayyum bowled Louis Backhouse for 7 (25 balls) 201 all out in 48.2 overs giving the visitors victory by 3 runs. Joel Derham was 0no (3 balls)

Damar Graham yook 3-45 from 12 overs, Ben Simm 3-95 off 15, Irfan Qayyun 2-20 from 6.2 and Atharva Taide 2-29 off 15

St Annes v Netherfield

This Match was postponed due to Covid
