The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 12 of the Northern Premier League saw big wins for Chorley and St Annes. There are also wins for Lancaster, Leyland and Longridge.
League leaders Blacckpool given a fright but come through with 2 wicket win

Chorley v Kendal

Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and invited the visitors to bat first

Chris Miller and Darren Nightringale opened and had taken the score to 22 when Samuel Steeple struck, first he trapped Miller lbw 12 (23 balls), 22-1 then two balls later bowled David Batty 0 (2 balls) 22-2.

Chalana De Silva joined Nightingale and they steadily built a partnership of 131 when history repeated its self with the visitors losing two wickets on the same score

Darren Nightingale was caught by Ben Simpkins off Keiran McCullagh for 76 (85 balls) 153-3, Oliver Tyson was then caught by Keiran Mc Cullagh off Gaurav Dhar for 0 (3 balls) 153-4

Things did not improve for the visitors when Saeed Bariwala was run out by Alfie Dobson for 2 (5 balls) 156-5, Chalana De Silva quickly followed caught by Keiran McCullagh off Gaurav Dhar for 47 (52 balls) 157-6

For the third time in the innings Kendal lost two wickets on the same score, Joseph Dodds trapped lbw by Gaurav Dhar for 4 (3 balls) 162-7, then in the next over Oliver Killiner out lbw to Keiran McCullagh for 1 (5 balls) 162-8

Kendal were bowled out for 175 in 34.1 overs when for the fourth time two wickets fell on the same score, firstly Paul Dodds was bowled by Keiran McCullagh for 1 (13 balls) 175 -9 then Kuldeep Singh caught by Siddesh Lad off Gaurav Dhar for 12 (13 balls) 175 all out. Toby Tyson was 0no (2 balls)

Gaurav Dhar took 4-23 off 6.1 overs, Keiran McCullagh 3-43 from 8, Samuel Steeple 2-26 off 7

The opening pair of Siddesh Lad and Louis Johnson batted carefully and had taken the total to 72 when Johnson was trapped lbw by Kuldeep Singh for 22 (68 balls) 72-1

Harry Barclay came in at 3 and had made 11 (22 balls) when he was caught by Toby Tyson off Chalana De Silva, 107-2, Keiran McCullagh joined Lad but became De Silva's second victim caught by Chris Miller for 4 (17 balls) 120-3

Siddesh Lad then suffered the same fate of McCullagh out caught by Chris Miller off Chalana De Silva for 81 (96 balls) 135-4, Alfie Dobson and Ben Simpkins knuckled down and had taken the side insight of victory when Simpkins was lbw to De Silva for 7 (16 balls) 161-5

Will Moulton joined Dobson and they saw Chorley home reaching 176-5 in 45 overs, Dobson was 29no (45 balls) and Moulton 8no (8 balls)

Chalana De Silva took 4-46 from 14 overs and Kuldeep Singh 1-50 off 10

Fulwood & Broughton v Blackpool

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and elected to bat first in a reduced 92 over match, Mark Smith and Ewan Mansford opened but were soon parted, Mansford out caught behind by Ben Howarth off Jamie Thomson for 2 (14 balls) 6-1

Matthew Smith joined Mark Smith and they slowly moved the score on to 30 when Mark Smith was caught behind by Ben Howarth off Matthew Grindley for 9 (41 balls) 30-2. Lewis Wellings was next in and continued the steady progress

The partnership was 36 when Smith was cauht by Joshua Boyne off Jamie Thomson for 36 (53 balls) 66-3, No 5 Ben Parkinson became Jamie Thomson's next victim bowled for 6 (6 balls) 78-4

Lewis Welling's watchful innings came to an end bowled by Matthew Grindley for 26 (60 balls) 86-5, Jamie Thomson took his fourth wicket bowling Anupam Tripathi for 2 (14 balls) 99-6

Abhay Negi was joined by Dominic Jackson and they had moved the score on to 139 when Jackson was caught by Shivam Chauhan off Matthew Siddall for 5 (17 balls) 139-7.

James Lupton and Abhay Negi added a further 15 runs when Negi became Thomson's fifth victim caught by Ciaran Johnson for 58 (48 balls), 154-8, Zac Proctor became Thomson's sixth wicket caught behind by Ben Howarth for 1 (3 balls) 165-9

The innings closed after 46 overs with Fulwood & Broughton on 175-9, with James Lupton 20no (13 balls) and Chris Brookes 2no (7 balls)

Jamie Thomson took 6-52 from 14 overs, Matthew Grindley 2-44 off 14 and Matthew Siddall 1-45 from 12

The Blackpool openers Sam Dutton and Ben Howarth followed the the home teams example and steadily built the score to 34 when Howarth was caught by Anupam Tripathi off Abhay Negi for 14 (35 balls) 34-1

Ciaran Johnson was Dtton's next partner and they took the total to 91 when Dutton was bowled by Zac Proctor for 47 (52 balls) 91-2.

Chris Brookes then took two wickets in the same over first Shivam Chauan bowled for 0 (4 balls) 96-3 then bowling Joshua Boyne next ball for 0 96-4

Dylan Henshall and Ciaran Johnson began the rebuild but with the score on 127 Chris Brookes struck having Ciaran Johnson stumped by Mark Smith for 44 (48 balls) 127-5.

The game was evenly poised but with the total 143 the visitors lost two wickets, Jake Muncaster caught by Dominic Jackson off Matthew Smith for 6 (12 balls) 143-6, then Henshaal was bowled by Abhay Negi for 22 (38 balls) 144-7

Negi struck again bowling Paul Danson for 2 (11 balls) 147-8. Blackpool required 30 runs with two wickets in hand, Matthew Grindley 17no (36 balls) and Jamie Thomson 16no (35 balls) saw the visitors over the line on 176-8 in 45.2 overs

Chris Brookes had 3-51 from 9 overs, Zac Proctor 1-35 off 7.2 and Matthew Smith 1-40 from 11

Garstang v Leyland

Garstang won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and invited the visitors to bat first in a reduced 84 over match, Leyland made 166-8 in their 42 overs with Kurtis Watson their top scorer with 80 and 21 from Karl Cross

Ian Walling took 3-40 from 13 overs, Waris Khan 2-19 off 8, Mohammed Yusuf 2-27 from 10 and Danny Gilbert 1-69 off 11

In reply Garstang were bowled out for 125 in 37.5 overs with Punit Bisht 69 and Mark Walling 14 the only batsmen to reach double figures

Saliya Saman did the damage with 5-26 in 10.5 overs, Iain Critchley took 2-18 from 6, Michael Birchall 1-24 off 5 and Karl Cross 1-26 from 13

Longridge v Fleetwood

Fleetwood won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and put Longridge in to bat, Longridge were bowled out for 210 in 42.2 overs thanks to Joshua Mullin 52, Zac Christie 50 and Luke Platt 24

Dyllan Matthews took 4-57 from 12.2 overs, Declan Clerkin 2-42 off 13, Jack Wilkinson 1-23 from 6 and Jeremy Davies 1-27 off 6

In reply Fleetwood were bowled out for 45 in 12.5 overs with Dyllan Matthews 17 the only batsman to reach double figures

The Longridge opening bowlers had impressive figures William Vause 6-18 from 6 overs with Jonathan Millward taking 4-22 off 6.5

Netherfield v Lancaster

Netherfield won the toss at Parkside Road and invited the visitors to bat first, Jamie Heywood and Eddie Steinson opened but soon lost Heywood caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Shrikant Mundhe for 4 (17 balls) 5-1

Atharva Taide joined Steinson and they kept the scoreboard ticking over until they had reached 43 when Steinson was caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Richie Forsyth for 27 (54 balls) 43-2

Steven Fisher was next in and supported Taide taking the score to 98 when Fisher was caught by Shrikant Mundhe off Isaac Medhurst for 15 (45 balls) 98-3.

Four runs had been added when Taide's iinings came to a close caught by Lewis Richardson off Isaac Medhurst for 51 (55 balls) 102-4

Laurie Atkinson made 33 (26 balls) caugth behind by Finlay Richardson off Richie Forsyth, Finlay Richardson took his fourth victim stumping David Steinson 11 off Oli Wileman

Oli Wileman bowled Damar Graham for 13, Richie Forsyth accounted for Irfan Qayyum 8 caught by Oli Wileman and Ben Simm stumped by Finlay Richardson 0.

Lee Sparks was run out ny Finlay Richardson for 3 with Uzair Shah 3no as Lancaster were bowled out for 181 in 36 overs

The Netherfield wicket takers were Richie Forsyth 4-44, Isaac Medhurst 2-16, Oli Wileman 2-27 and Shrikant Mundhe 1-29

In reply openers Bradley Earl and Daniel Gaunt got them off to a good start with an opening partnership of 44 when Earl was trapped lbw by Damar Graham for 25 (25 balls) 44-1

Graham struck again having Shrikant Mundhe caught by Atharva Taide for 3 (6 balls) 51-2. Richie Forsyth joined Gaunt and they had put on 26 runs when Forsyth was caught behind by Lee Sparks off Ben Simm for 13 (22 balls) 77-3

Ten runs had been added to the score when Sparks had his second victim stumping Finlay Richardson off Ben Simm for 6 (12 balls) 87-4. Simm brought Daniel Gaunt's innings to an end having him caught by Atharva Taide for 34 (67 balls) 100-5

Josh Dixon and James Bowman steadily added to the score but on 132 Bowman was caught by David Steinson off Damar Graham for 19 (30 balls) 132-6, five runs later Graham struck again having Lewis Richardson caught behind by Lee Sparks for 2 (9 balls) 137-7.

The match swung in Lancaster's favour when Josh Dixon was bowled by Damar Graham for 31 (60 balls) 140-8.

Netherfield required 42 runs for vitory with only two wickets in hand, Oli Wileman and Isaac Medhurst went for the win, Wileman was out caught by Atharva Taide off Ben Simm for 15 (6 balls) including 2 sixes, 168-9

Victory for Lancaster came when Atharva Taide bowled Isaac Medhurst for 7 (6 balls) closing the Netherfield innings on 174 in 41.1 overs. Matt Jackson was 3no (4 balls)

Damar Graham took 5-49 in 12 overs, Ben Simm 4-55 from 13 and Atharva Taide 1-33 off 12.1

St Annes v Morecambe

St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and elected to bat first, Tom Higson and Luke Jardine got hosts off to the best start of the season with an opening partnership of 147, Higson the first to go caught by Louis Backhose off Rongsen Jonathan for 74 (97 balls) including 12 fours, 147-1

Jardine soon followed his opening partner run out by Alex Briggs for 56 (115 balls) 154-2, Nathan Armstrong joined Nathan Bolus and they took the score to 189 when Bolus was caught by Charkie Swarbrick off Liam Moffat for 33 (33 balls) 189-3

Nathan Bend was next in and pushed the score along, with the total on 223 Armstrong was caught by Liam Moffat off Louis Backhouse for 8 (22 balls) 223-4. Nathan Bend was next out caught behind by Alex Briggs off Liam Moffat for 33 (26 balls) including 6 fours 231-5

The St Annes innings closed shortly afterwards on 238-5 in their 50 overs with Mitch Bolus 6no (4 balls) and Alex Bradley 2no (2 balls)

The Morecambe wicket takers were Liam Moffat 2-74 from 10 overs, Louis Backhouse 1-25 off 7 and Rongsen Jonathan 1-43 from 15

Morecambe got off to a bad start losing both openers with the scopre on 17, first Gareth Pedder caught behind by Alex Bradley off Mitch Bolus for 13 (14 balls) then Harry Birkman bowling Luke Pearson for 4 (12 balls) 17-2

Birkman struck again soon after bowling Charlie Swarbrick for 6 (12 balls) 24-3, Ronsen Jonathan and Ryan Pearson began to slowly rebuild the Morecambe innings but Tom Higson struck having Jonathan caught by Curtis Fletcher for 21 (35 balls) 52-5

Alex Briggs fell to the same combination caught Fletcher bowled Higson for 2 (10 balls) 58-5, Tom Bradley joined in the Morecambe demolition having Kieran Moffat caught by Andy Drake for 0 (6 balls) 69-6

Ryan Pearson and Liam Moffat put on 20 when Moffat was out caught by Mitch Bolus off Curtis Fletcher for 3 (6 balls) 89-7. The return of Harry Birkman to the attack saw the end of Joel Derham bowled for 0 (19 balls) 98-8

The Morecambe skipper Ryan Pearson had been fighting a rear guard action but it all ended when he was caught by Tom Higson off Harry Birkman for 67 (83 balls) 117-9.

St Annes got their much needed victory when Curtis Fletcher bowled Jamie Cassidy for 3 (9 balls) resulting in Morecambe being bowled out for 120 in 35 overs, Louis Backhouse was 0no (4 balls)

The St Annes wicket takers were Harry Birkman 4-28 from 9 overs, Tom Higson 2-19 off 4, Curtis Fletcher 2-33 from 6, Tom Bradley 1-15 off 8 and Mitch Bolus 1-24 from 8
