The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 11 of the Northern Premier League saw Blackpool win the derby match and extend their lead at the top.
There were also wins for Fulwood & Broughton, Garstang, Longridge, Leyland and Netherfield in the Kendal derby.

Blackpool v St Annes

The match was moved to Vernon Road because the Blackpool gound was not fit to play the fixture. St Annes won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first

Openers Tomas King and Sam Dutton got off to a good start with a partnership of 54 when Dutton was bowled by Mitch Bolus for 27 (32 balls) 54-1

Ciaran Johnson joined King and they added fifteen runs when King was caught behind by Alex Bradley off Tom Bradley for 26 (44 balls) 69-2.

Shivam Chauhan was in at four and with Johnson were looking to dominate the St Annes attack, the introduction of Curtis Fletcher changed things, he removed Chauhan caught and bowled for 45 (39 balls) 157-3

Mitch Bolus was brought back and with Fletcher the slowed down the run rate. Ten runs had been added when two wickets fell on the same score. Curtis Fletcher caught and bowled Joshua Boyne for 6 (4 balls) 167-4 then Johnson was caught by Nathan Bend off Mitch Bolus for 51 (66 balls) 167-5

Jake Muncaster and Ben Howarth were made to work for their runs, Howarth was next out caught behind by Alex Bradley off Curtis Fletcher for 3 (14 balls) 172-6. Matthew Grindley joined Muncaster and they slowly moved to 192 when Muncaster was caught by Nathan Bend off Fletcher for 19 (37 balls) 192-7

Paul Danson was out lbw to Tom Higson for 0 (1 ball) 192-8. Tom Higson struck again bowling Matthew Siddall for 0 (8 balls) 194-9. Blackpool were all out for 214 in 49.4 overs when Harry Birkman ran out Jamie Thomson for 7 (21 balls). Matthew Grindley was undeated on 15 (35 balls)

Curtis Fletcher took 4-54 from 13 overs, Tom Higson 2-42 off 9.4, Mitch Bolus 2-44 from 15 and Tom Bradley 1-40 off 7

The St Annes openers Andy Drake and Alex Bradley were parted when Bradley was bowled by Matthew Grindley for 5 (12 balls) 9-1. Grindley had Andy Drake caught by Tomas King for 6 (47 balls)) 16-2

Tom Higson joined Nathan Bolus and they batted carefully and they took the score to 40 when Higson was caught by Joshua Boyne off Shivam Chauhan for 9 (26 balls) 40-3.

Chauhan struck again trapping Luke Jardine lbw for 1 (19 balls) 47-4. Nathan Bolus's next partner was Nathan Armstrong and they had added 43 when Armstrong was caught by Joshua Boyne off Matthew Grindley for 10 (27 balls) 90-5

New batsman Nathan Bend faced three balls bowled by Joshua Boyne for 5, 100-6, The home team's chance of saving the match went when Nathan Bolus was caught by Jamie Thomson off Matthew Siddall for 60 (103 balls) 111-7

Matthew Grindley took his fourth wicket trapping Harry Birkman lbw for 1 (7 balls) 112-8, Matthew Siddall had Mitch Bolus caught and bowled for 7 (19 balls) 114-9. Siddall had Tom Bradley caught by Shivam Chauhan for 0 (8 balls) as St Annes were 115 all out in 45.5 overs, Curtis Fletcher was 1no (4 balls)

Matthew Grindley took 4-21 from 14 overs, Matthew Siddall 3-34 off 11.5, Shivam Chauhan 2-19 from 7 and Joshua Boyne 1-21 off 4

Fleetwood v Fulwood & Broughton

Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater and elected to bat first. They were bowled out for 156 in 41.5 overs.

Charlie Clark top scored with 57 supported by Declan Clerkin 40, Simon Kerrigan did the damage for the visitors taking 7-60 from 12.5 overs

In reply the visitors reached their total of 157 for 4 in 42.2 overs, The runs were shared amongst the batsmen, Mark Smith 32, Simon Kerrigan 32 Matthew Smith 31, Ben Parkinson 19no and Matthew Rosbottom 17

Kendal v Netherfield

Netherfield won the toss at Shap Road in the derby match and decided to bat first, openers Ben Barrow abd Bradley Earl gave them a great start with a partnership of 66 when both were out o the same score.

Ben Barrow was out caught behind by Richard Dakin off Chalana De Silva for 22 (55 balls), 66-1, De Silva then bowled Earl for 46 (53 balls) 66-2

Daniel Gaunt came in at 3 but lasted only 12 balls caught by Oliver Killiner off De Silva for 1, 71-3. Shrikant Mundhe was next in and he made 11 (21 balls) when he was caught behind by Richard Dakin off Kuldeep Singh, 83-4

Chalana De Silve took his third wicket having Ritchie Forsyth caught by Oliver Killiner for 0 (9 balls), 95-5. Finlay Richardson and James Bowman steadied the ship, they had taken the score to 119 when Richardson was trapped lbw by Chris Miller for 27 (25 balls), 119-5

Bowman was the next man out caught by Joseph Dodds off Chris Miller for 18 (32 balls) 132-7, five runs had been added when Kuldeep Singh had Oli Wileman caught behind by Richard Dakin for 1 (3 balls) 137-8

Eight wickets down became nine when Chris Miller bowled Lewis Richardson for 5 (24 balls) 139-9. The innings closed shortly afterwards with the total on 142 in 42.2 overs, Matt Jackson was caught by Chalana De Silva off Kuldeep Singh for 5 (10 balls), Isaac Medhurst was 0no (11 balls)

Chalana De Silva took 4-52 from 15 overs, Kuldeep Singh 3-28 off 12.2 and Chris Miller 3-39 from 9

The Kendal reply got off to a bad start losing two early wickets, Chris Miller was caught by Ben Barrow off Matt Jackson for 0 (10 balls) 2-1, fellow opener Harry Lee went for 6 (16 balls) caught by Ben Barrow off Shrikant Munde, 8-2

Edward Price and Chalana De Silva batted steadily their partnership was 18 when Price became Jackson's second victim caught by Daniel Gaunt for 6 (25 balls), 26-3. Shrikant Mundhe then struck having Chalana De Silva caught by Lewis Richardson for 17 (20 balls) 32-4

Ben Phillips came in at 5 but was soon out caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Matt Jackson for 1 (7 balls) 37-5, Kendal were now fighting a rearguard action and with the score on 47 they lost two more wickets.

Matt Jackson was the man he had Oliver Killiner caught by Bradley Earl for 4 (24 balls) 47-6, he then had Joseph Dodds caught by Ben Barrow for 0 (7 balls) 47-7.

David Batty had kept one end going and with Richard Dakin they had a partnership of 38 when again Kendal lost two wickets on the same score. First Dakin was bowled by Isaac Medhurst for 7 (29 balls) 75-8, then Batty was bowled by Oli Wileman for 28 (51 balls) 75-9

Oli Wileman closed the Kendal Innings on 86 in 35.1 overs when he had Kuldeep Singh caught by Ben Barrow for 10 (13 balls), Matthew Park was 1no (9 balls)

Matt Jackson took 5-19 from 13 overs, Oli Wileman 2-18 off 4.1, Shrikant Mundhe 2-25 from 9 and Isaac Medhurst 1-10 off 5

Lancaster v Garstang

Lancaster won the toss at Lune Road and chose to bat first, the opening pair Jamie Heywood and Steven Fisher found runs hard to come by and with 13 on the board Heywood was bowled by Ian Walling for 2 (19 balls) 13-1

Atharva Taide joined Fisher and they took the score to 48 when Fisher was caught by Michael Walling for 21 (48 balls) 48-2,

The total reached 59 when two wickets fell, Taide caught by Dan Curwen of Ian Walling for 24 (38 balls) 59-3, then Danny Gilbert had Eddie Steinson caught by Dan Curwen for 9 (19 balls) 59-4

Lancaster were in trouble when David Steinson was caught by Mark Walling off Ian Walling for 1 (7 balls) 60-5. Things went from bad to worse Danny Gilbert trapping Uzair Shah lbw for 1 (2 balls) 63-6

Gilbert bowled Ben Simm for 4 (6 balls) 67-7. Laurie Atkinson was joined by Irfan Qayyum and they dug in and had put on 24 runs when Atkinson was caught behind by Matthew Crowther off Waris Khan for 19 (47 balls) 91-8

Mohammed Yusuf finnished off the innings firstly having Damar Graham caught by Punit Bisht for 0 (2 balls) 92-9, then Irfan Qayyum was caught behind by Matthew Crowther for 12 (34 balls) 99 all out in 37.2 overs. Lee Sparks was 0no (3 balls)

Michael Wellings and Michael Walling opened for the visitors and had a partnership of 63 when Wellings was caught and bowled by Atharva Tiade for 42 (42 balls) 63-1

Michael Walling then took control supported by Mohammed Yusuf as they claimed victory without further loss ending on 100-1 in 22.2 overs, Walling 52no (78 balls) and Yusuf 1no (14 balls)

Leyland v Chorley

Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial Ground and chose to bat first. Runs were not easy to come by and they were bowled out for 145 in 49.3 overs

James Rounding top scored with 38 (83 balls) with support from Kurtis Watson 31 (58 balls), Saliya Saman 25 (56 balls) and Karl Cross 19 (36 balls)

Samuel Steeple was Chorley's most successful bowler with 7-46 from 15 overs wirh James Lee 2-42 off 13 and Louis Backhouse 1-30 from 11.3

In reply Chorley were bowled out for 105 in 41 overs. Andy Flear 29 (69 balls) was the only top order batsman to make double figures.

The tail gave the score a more respectable look thanks to Samuel Steeple 18 (24 balls), Ian Oakes 17 (19 balls) and Andrew Holdsworth 10 (32 balls)

For Leyland Kurtis Watson took 4-35 from 13 overs with Saliya Saman 2-17 off 8, Michael Birchall 2-17 from 5 and Karl Cross 2-24 off 15.

Morecambe v Longridge

Morecambe won the toss at Woodhill Lane and were bowled out for 71 in 28.4 overs, Only four players reached double figures, Ryan Pearson 12, Gareth Pedder 11, Like Pearson 11 and Alex Briggs 11

The opening bowlers for Longridge did the damage, William Vause taking 5-15 from 7.4 overs, Jonathan Millward 4-38 off 13 with Daniel Wilson 1-9 from 7

In reply Longridge knocked off the runs reaching 72-5 in 23.2 overs, Like Morecambe the visitors did not find batting easy.

The top scorer for Longridge was extras 23 wit Luke Platt 17 and Zac Christie 12 and Daniel Wilson 12no

Rangsen Jonathan took 2-12 from 5.2 overs, Louis Backhouse 2-16 off 6 and Jamie Cassidy 1-19 from 7
