The Northern Cricket League Review

Round 10 of the Northern Premier League saw Blackpool win and extend their lead at the top.
There were also wins for Fleetwood, Lancaster and Kendal and nail biting win for Morecambe.
The other game were winning draw for Leyland v St Annes.

Chorley v Fleetwood

Fleetwood won the toss at Windsor Park and invited the home side to bat first. Chorley were bowled out in 21.4 overs for 76

Andrew Holdsworth opened the innings and saw the innings collapse around him, Siddesh Lad top scored with 17 (9 balls) with Joseph Tiffin 13, Holsworth made 12 (51 balls)

Dyllan Matthews cleared up the Chorley tail taking 4-5 in 2.4 overs, James Amor 2-22 from 11, Jeremy Davies 2-21 off 4 and Scott Whittaker 2-21 from 4

In reply Fleetwood lost James Gregson 0 (6 balls) and Jeremy Davies for 9 (19 balls), Charlie Clark made 16 (26 balls), Dyllan Matthews came to the wicket and destroyed the Chorley attack hitting 44no in 13 balls including 5 fours and 3 sixes to see the visitors home on 77-3 in 12 overs

For Chorley Louis Johnson took 2-46 from 6 overs and James Lee 1-31 off 6

Fulwood & Broughton v Lancaster

Lancaster won the toss at the Highfield ground and decided to bat first, Openers Jamie Heywood and Sandy Richards gave the visitors a steady start taking the score to 42 when Richards was run out by wicketkeeper Mike Sambell for 11 (26 balls) 24-1

Atharva Taide was in at 3 but soon lost his partner Heywood who was caught behind by Mike Sambell off Jon Fenton for 16 (33 balls), 28-2

Laurie Atkinson came in next and with Taide had a partnership of 55 when Atkinson became Fenton's second victim caught behind by Mike Sambell for 19 (43 balls) 83-3

Taide had a new partner in Steven Fisher and they put the visitors into a strong position with a partnership of 97 when Fisher was bowled by Simon Kerrigan for 33 (80 balls) 180-4

Ifan Qayyum continued to support Taide and they had moved the total to 235 when Qayyum was 32 (17 balls) he gave Mike Sambell his third catch behind the wicket off Abhay Negi, 235-6

Six runs had been added when Taide's innings came to an end caught by Ben Parkinson off Jon Fenton for 122 (85 balls) with 9 fours and 9 sixes, 241-7.

New batsman David Rippengal was run out by Abhay Negi for 6 (7 balls) 253-7, one run later Uzair Shah was bowled by Jon Fenton for 7 (7 balls) 254-8, Fenton took his fifth wicket two balls later bowling Lewis McGinley for 0 (2 ballsL 254-9

The Lancaster innings closed on 257-9 with Damar Graham 2no (1 ball) and Faizan Khan 1no (2 balls).

Jon Fenton took 5-55 from 14 overs Abhay Negi 1-56 off 15 and Simon Kerrigan 1-98 from 13.

In reply the Fulwood and Broughton openers batted carefully and had taken the score to 33 when Ewen Mansford was bowled by Irfan Qayyum for 6 (21 balls) 33-1.

Matthew Smith camie in at 3 but fell caught by Atharva Taide off Uzair Shah 0 (5 balls) 46-2. Simon Kerrigan joined Rosbottom and they moved the total to 74 when Kerrigan was caught by Taide off Damar Graham for 11 (26 balls) 74-3

Mark Smith became Robottom's next partner and they began to give the home side hope, but with their partnership on 44 Rosbottom was trapped lbw by Atharva Taide for 54 (93 balls) 115-4

Taide struck with two quick wickets, Abhay Negi caught by Damar Graham for 0 (2 balls) 115-5 followed by Mark Smith again lbw for 20 (44 balls) 116-6.

The home side were fighting to keep in the game, Mike Sambell and Ben Parkinson had put on 20 when Parkinson was out bowled by Taide for 11 (17 balls) 136-7.

Irfan Qayyum put the visitors in a strong position when he bowled Lewis Wellings for 4 (6 balls) 149-8,

Damar Graham finished off the tail bowling Jon Fenton for 0 (8 balls) 156-9, then having Dominic Jackson caught by David Rippengal for 1 (13 balls) 167 all out in 46.1 overs. Mike Sambell was unbeaten on 26 (43 balls)

Atharva Taide took 4-30 from 13 overs, Damar Graham 3-25 off 11.1, Irfan Qayyum 2-54 from 11 and Uzair Shah 1-17 off 7

Garstang v Morecambe

Morecambe won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and elected to bat first, The first thee batsmen reached double figures, Gareth Pedder 21 (32 balls), Luke Pearson 30 (58 balls) and Charlie Swabrick 13 (26 balls)

What followed was a diaster as the Morecambe innings collapsed to be saved by Liam Moffat at no 10 scoring 31 (50 balls), they were bowled out for 138 in 38.3 overs

Ian Walling was the destroyer in chief with 7-40 from 14 overs with Mohammed Yusuf 1-23 off 11 and Danny Gilbert 1-33 from 7.2

Garstang were bowled out for 137 in 39.2 overs with Punit Bisht with 69 (99 balls) top scoring, Mohaamed Yusuf was the only other home batsman to reach double figures 11 (28 balls)

Jamie Cassidy took the wicket to give the visitors victory by 1 run, Liam Moffat with 6-45 from 15 overs set up the win with Jamie Cassidy 3-24 off 8.2 and Louis Backhouse 1-29 from 11

Longridge v Kendal

Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial Ground and chose to bat first, openers Luke Platt and Joshua Mullin faced tight Kendal bowling.

The total was 12 when Toby Tyson struck with two qucik wickets, firstly having Luke Platt caught by Chris Miller for 1 (20 balls) 12-1, four balls later he trapped James Whitehead lbw 0 (4 balls) 12-2

Things did not improve for the home side Zac Christie became victim number three for Tyson bowled for 0 (6 balls) 20-3,

Then disaster two wickets fell on the same score, Daniel Wilkinson Jnr was caught by Chalana De Silva off Chris Miller for 6 ( 12 balls) 29-4 folowed by Joshua Mullin trapped by Tyson for 19 (29 balls) 29-5

Daniel Wilson and Thomas Turner dug in and tried to rebuild the innings but with the score on 48 both were dismissed, Wilson lbw to Chalana De Silva for 6 (38 balls) 48-6 then Turner bowled by Kuldeep Singh for 11 (32 balls) 48-7

Nick Wilkinson and Ian Simpson continued the fight but with only eleven runs added Wlkinson was bowled by Kuldeep Singh for 8 (21 balls) 59-8. Jonathan Millward fought but became Singh's third wicket bowled for 5 (22 balls) 87-9

Kuldeep Singh wrapped up the home innings bowling William Vause for 4 (3 balls) 91 all out in 38.4 overs with Ian Simpson 26no (49 balls)

Toby Tyson had the remarkable figures 4-6 from 9 overs, Kuldeep Singh had 4-42 off 13.4, Chris Miller 1-19 from 6 and Chalana De Silva 1-20 off 10

The Kendal reply got off to a bad start with Darren Nightingale caught and bowled by Jonathan Millward for 0 (1 ball) 5-1.

Harry Lee joined Chris Miller and they steadily built their partnership, it had reached 51 when Miller was caught behind by Thomas Turner off Ian Simpson for 34 (36 balls) 56-2

Chalana De Silva replaced Miller and dominated the host's bowling hitting 37 in ten balls to give the visitors victory on 97-2 in only 13.4 overs, Harry Lee was 23no (45 balls)

Ian Simpson had 1-13 from 2 overs with Jonathan Millward 1-18 off 5

Netherfield v Blackpool

Netherfield won the toss at Parkside Road and elected to bat first, Josh Dixon and Richie Forsyth opened but were soon parted when Dixon was caught by Shivam Chauhan off Jamie Thomson for 0 (10 balls) 1-1

Shrikant Mundhe joined Forsyth and they had taken their partnership to 25 when Mundhe was run out by Tomas King for 9 (29 balls) 26-2. Ben Barrow was next in but lost Forsyth bowled by Jamie Thomson for 22 (51 balls) 39-3

The Blackpool attack were making life difficult for the home batsmen No5 James Bowman had made 6 (30 balls) when he was caught by Matthew Grindley off Shivant Chauhan, 55-4, Finlay Richardson scored 1 (5 balls) before falling to the same combination caught Grindley bowled Chauhan 58-5

Bradley Earl was Barrow's next partner but the partnership was only 9 when Earl was caught by Sam Dutton off Matthew Siddall for 6 (17 balls) 67-6.

Lewis Richardson came in and battled with Barrow to set a score to defend but with the total on 98 he was caught by Sam Dutton off Shivam Chauhan for 15 (32 balls) 98-7.

Oli Wileman made 3 (3 balls) when he was caught by Joshua Boyne off Matthew Siddall, 101-8. Isaac Medhust stuck around but was out caught by Ciaran Johnson off Matthew Siddall for 4 (21 balls) 107-9

The Netherfield innings closed on 107 all out in 45.4 overs with Ben Barrow caught by Matthew Grindley off Shivam Chauhan for a fighting 35 (78 balls)

Shivam Chauhan took 4-26 from 12.4 overs, Matthew Siddall 3-28 off 13 and Jamie Thomson 2-33 from 10

The Blackpool reply got off to a bad start Tomas King caught by Isaac Medhurst off Shrikant Mundhe for 0 (2 balls) 0-1

Ciaran Johnson joined Sam Dutton and they took the score to 28 when Dutton was caught by Lewis Richardson off Matt Jackson for 16 (14 balls) 28-2

That was the last Netherfield success, Shivam Chauhan 44no (24 balls) and Johnson 43no (41 balls) took control and reached their target 108-2 in 13.3 overs

The Netherfield wicket takers were Shrikant Mundhe 1-20 from 3 overs with Matt Jackson 1-22 off 4

St Annes v Leyland

St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and invited the visitors to bat first, Jacob Wright and James Rounding opened and had reached 20 when James Rounding was bowled by Harry Birkman for 13 (17 balls) 20-1

Kurtis Watson was no 3 but lost Wright bowled by Harry Birkman for 11 (32 balls) 33-2. Next in was Andrew Makinson and with Watson took the score to 58 when Makinson was trapped lbw by Nathan Bolus for 12 (22 balls) 58-3

Kurtis Watson was joined by Karl Cross and they slowly moved the score on reaching 109 when Cross was lbw to Tom Higson for 14 (50 balls) 109-4.

Lloyd Tennant came in and had made 4 (13 balls) when he was caught by Luke Jardine off Curtis Fletcher, 114-5. Iain Critchley replaced Tennant and with Watson added 40 runs, Watson was next out caught by Nathan Bolus off Harry Birkman for 79 105 balls) 154-6

Iain Critchley 22no (48 balls) and Joe Wallwork-Woods 6no (13 balls) saw Leyland close on 167-6 in their 50 overs

Harry Birkman took 3-37 from 10 overs, Tom Higson 1-32 off 13, Nathan Bolus 1-33 from 8 and Curtis Fletcher 1-41 from 15

The St Annes reply got off to a slow start with Andy Drake and Alex Bradley, their partnership was 20 when Bradley was caught and bowled by Kurtis Watson for 7 (31 balls) 20-1

Nathan Bolus was no 3 but lost his partner with the score on 35 Andy Drake bowled by Ben Weaver for 15 (56 balls), 35-2. Weaver took the next wicket Tom Higson caught by Karl Cross for 11 (17 balls) 47-3

Luke Jardine joined Bolus and they began to give the home side hope and had taken the total to 89 when Jardine was out lbw to Kurtsi Watson for 9 (36 balls) 89-4. Watson struck again bowling Nathan Bend for 5 (9 balls) 97-5

Diaster struck for St Annes when four balls after the Bend dismissal Nathan Bolus was caught by Ben Weaver off Kurtis Watson for 36 (71 balls) 98-6. Nathan Armstrong was Watson's fifth wicket lbw for 9 (12 balls) 108-9

Mitch Bolus took on the Leyland attack but when he was 19 (22 balls) he was trapped lbw by Michael Birchall, 129-8. The St Annes batsmen were fighting to hold out but James Bradley was bowled by Ben Weaver for 3 (32 balls) 129-9

Curtis Fletcher at no 11 was 0no (4 balls) and Harry Birkman 8no (10 balls ) saw St Annes to the close on 137-9

Kurtis Watson 5-34 from 15 overs, Ben Weaver 3-10 off 7 and Michael Birchall 1-30 from 11
