The Northern Cricket League Review

On a cold blustery day Longridge gained their first Northern Premier win, there were also wins for Fleetwood, Blackpool, Kendal and Leyland with a winning draw for Netherfield

Barrow v Fleetwood

Fleetwood won the toss at the Ernest Pass Memorial ground and invited the hosts to bat, Barrow got off to a good start reaching 51 when Justin Pringle was caught off the bowling of Alex Ryder for 29, 51-1

Ryder struck again having Glen Kermode caught for 1, 65-2, Jordan Nicholson became Ryder's third victim caught for 7 79-3. Daryl Wearing joined Toby Mowat and they dug in and began to build a defendable total.

They had a partnership of 82 when Neels Bergh bowled Wearing for 43, 161-4. Bergh then took the valuable wicket of Toby Mowat bowling him for 81, 168-5, ten runs later and the sixth wicket fell Jack Hill-Eades caught by off Toby Lush for 4, 178-4

The innings closed 196-7 with Sam Henderson out on the last ball of the innings caught off Toby Lush for 14 with Rashid Ahmad 12no.

Alex Ryder took 3-28 from 8 overs, Neels Bergh 2-44 off 15 and Toby Lush 2-51 from 10

The Fleetwood reply had reached 24 when Daryl Wearing bowled Rana Singh for 14, 24-1, Keegan Armstrong joined Fraser Parr and had added 40 to the total when Parr was caught by Jordan Nicholson off Toby Mowat for 28, 64-2

Neels Bergh was Armstrong's next partner but with the score on 91 Bergh was bowled by Gary Collins for 14, 91-3, Declan Clerkin quickly followed caught by Rashid Ahmad off Justin Pringle for 0, 92-4

The taking of the fourth wicket proved to be Barrow's last success as Keegan Armstrong 72no and Adam Sharrocks 41no guided the visitors to victory in 39.2 overs closing on 197-4. Their unbeaten partnership was 105 in 116 balls

The wicket takers for Barrow were Daryl Wearing 1-36 from 12 0vers, Toby Mowat 1-33 off 8, Justin Pringle 1-20 from 4 and Gary Collins 1-32 off 7

Chorley v Netherfield

Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and put the visitors into bat, Netherfield made 193-6 in their 50 overs thanks to Bevan Small 83, Josh Dixon 39 and 21 from Lewis Edge

The wickets were shared out amongst the Chorley bowlers five taking a wicket each and Chamikara Edirisinghe taking 2

When Chorley replied Wian Van Zyl and Andrew Holdsworth put Chorley in a strong position but the fall of Van Zyl caught by Ben Barrow of Joel Blain 65 was to be the turning point

The introduction of Scott Clement into the attack saw the Chorley wickets tumble, Will Moulton made 20 but Chorley were 8 runs short of victory at the close on 186-7 with Andrew Holdsworth 61no

Scott Clement finished with 3-23 from 7 0vers, Matt Jackson, Marc Hadwin, Robbie Dwyer ans Joel Blain took a wicket each

Fulwood & Broughton v Longridge

Longridge won the toss at the Highfield ground and decided to bat, they made 125 in 44.1 overs thanks to Ian Simpson 42no with contributions from Luke Platt 27, John Simpson 17 and Lachian Bangs 13

Simon Kerrigan took 4-33 from 17, Chris Brookes 2-13 off 8. Jon Fenton 2-44 from 13 and Lewis Dingle 1-23 off 5

In reply Fulwood & Broughton were bowled out for 107 in 33.4 overs and only an innings of 83 by Matthew Smith prevented the hosts from being bowled out for a small score.

Daniel Wilson got the vital wicket of Smith and then he mopped up the tail finishing with 4-12 from 7.5 overs, Ian Simpson took 3-23 from 8. Jonathan Milward, Matt Greenall and Lachian Bangs took a wicket

Garstang v Blackpool

Blackpool won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and elected to bat, they got off to a good start but with the score on 51 Ian Walling struck taking three quick wickets, Ciaran Johnson was the first caught by Michael Waling for 14, 51-1

Joshua Boyne was bowled for 0, 51-2 followed by Craig Brown 0, Blackpool were now 51-3, Lahiru Madushanka joined Sam Dutton and they dominated the Garstang attack with a partnership of 180, Madushanka was bowled by Danny Gilbert for 110, 231-4

Andy Funiss soon followed bowled by Danny Gilbert for 1, 235-5, Matthew Grindley was run out by Dan Curwen for 0 and the innings closed on 242-6.

For Garstang Ian Walling took 3-51 from 14, Danny Wilson 2-86 off 13

In reply Garstang lost the top 5 batsmen without one reaching double figures, 34 from No 9 Danny Gilbert, 20 from Naqib Rahman and 16 from Matthew Crowther could not stop them being bowled out for 116 in 29.3 overs

Matthew Grindley took 4-44 from 13, Lahiru Madushanka 3-37 off 10, Matthew Siddall 1-9 from 3, Jamie Thomson 1-9 off 2 and Joshua Boyne 1-13 from 1.3

Kendal v St Annes

St Annes won the toss at Shap Road and invited the host to bat, on 21 Saeed Bariwala was bowled by Matthew Yeadon for 19, 21-1, Ryan Shepherd joined Wes Marshall but when he had scored 3 was trapped lbw by Tom Higson, 35-2

Ben Phillips came to the crease and with Marshall took the total to 114 when Phillips was out caught by Tom Higson off Amar Ullah for 34. 114-3

Dan Woods was next in and with Marshall took the score to 193 when both were out, Marshall caught by Andy Drake off the bowling of Mohamed Nadeem for 109, 193-4 Woods also fell to Nadeem stumped by Chris Baines 193-5

Nadeem took a further three wickets as Kendal closed on 225-8, Mohamed Nadeem took 5-55 from 13 overs with Matthew Yeadon, Tom Higson and Amar Ullah taking a wicket each

In reply St Annes lost Andy Drake caught by Dan Woods off Matthew Park for 0, 6-1, Tim Smithies 18, Mohamed Nadeem 17 and Amar Ullah 15 offered some resistance with Tom Higson last out for 15, St Annes crumbled to 86 all out in 34.1 overs

Wes Marshall had figures of 4-20 off 11 overs with Matthew Park 4-28 from 13 and Chris Miller 1-1from 3.1 overs

Leyland v Penrith

Penrith won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and invited Leyland to bat. Leyland made 218-6 in their 50 overs, Saif Badar top scored with 67no supported by Nathan McDonnell 42, Karl Cross 34 Henry Thompson 30 and Jacob Wright 21

Asher Hart took 3-52 from 13 overs Samuel Hall 2-37 off 8 and Jamie O'Brien 1-25 from 6

The Penrith innings never got off the ground with only no 11 batsman Jamie O'Brien 12 reaching double figures as they were bowled out for 41 in 26.1 overs

Will Jacques had figures off 13 overs, 5 maidens 16 runs 5 wickets, Karl Cross 12 overs 5 maidens 12 runs 4 wickets with Will Smith taking the final wicket 1-7 from 1.1 overs
