The Northern Cricket League Review

Today was a day of surprises, the top two lose and Kendal win again to keep their hopes alive for avoiding the drop

Kendal, Chorley, Fulwood & Broughton and Fleetwood win with Longridge and Blackpool having winning draws

Barrow v Chorley

Chorley won the toss at the Ernest Pass Memorial ground and put Barrow into bat, The hosts got off to a bad start losing Justin Pringle caught by Will Moulton off Edwin Moulton for 0 (9 balls), 2-1

Dineth Thimodya Hewathanthre joined Toby Mowat but soon became Edwin Moulton's second victim caught by Gaurav Dhar for 12 (15 balls), 17-2. Glen Kermode was next in and with Mowat fought to rebuild the Barrow innings

Their partnership of 56 was broken when Kermode was bowled by Chamikara Edirisinghe for 15 (62 balls), 72-3, Only three runs had been added when Matthew Adams was bowled by Kieran McCullagh for 2 (4 balls), 75-4

No 6 was Daryl Wearing but when he had scored 5 he was caught by Gaurav Dhar off Will Moulton, 86-5, The sixth wicket fell three runs later Jack Hill-Eades caught by Stuart Naden off Kieran McCullagh for 2 (6 balls), 89-6

Unfortunately for Barrow Toby Mowat's fighting innings came to an end caught by Alexander Howarth off Kieran McCullagh for 53 (99 balls) 90-7. Jordan Nicholson was out for 0 (2 balls) lbw to Will Moulton 90-8

Sam Henderson and Lewis Bayman did what they could to build a score but with the total on 117 Bayman was run out by Chamikara Edirisinghe for 6 (16 balls) 117-9

The innings closed when Henderson was bowled by Edwin Moulton for 21 (31 balls) as Barrow were all out for 117 in 44.3 overs

Kieran McCullagh took 3-28 from 15 overs, Edwin Moulton took 3-28 off 7.3, Will Moulton tokk 2-13 from 6 and Gaurav Dhar 1-27 off 7

Fleetwood v Netherfield

Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater and invited the visitors to bat, Netherfield made 141-9 in their 50 overs, Ben Barrow leading the way with 55 with Bevan Small 27

Declan Clerkin took 4-31 from 13 overs, Neels Bergh 3-22 off 13, Scott Whittaker 1-10 from 7 and Alex Ryder 1-40 off 10

Fleetwood knocked off the runs in 47 overs reaching their target 142-8 thanks to Adam Sharrocks 36, Neels Bergh 24, Declan Clerkin 24 and 25 extras.

Matt Jackson took 3-31 from 17 overs, Isaac Medhurst 3-33 off 11 with Marc Hadwin 2-27 from 7

Fulwood & Broughton v Leyland

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss in a reduced over game at the Highfield ground and decided to bat making 150-7 in their 37 overs

Simon Kerrigan lead the way with 65no (42 balls) supported by Rob Dingle 35 (42 balls) and Matthew Smith 22 (36 balls). Ross Bretherton took 3-53 from 17 overs

Leyland were bowled out for 123 in 34.1 overs. Nathan McDonnell making 50 and Ross Bretherton 33, Simon Kerrigan demolishing the visitors tail taking 4-34 on 10 overs, Matthew Smith 2-12 off 7, Jon Fenton 2-36 from 10 and Dominic Jackson the match winning wicket 1-12 from 2.1

Kendal v Garstang

Kendal won the toss at Shap Road in a must win match and chose to bat, the overs had been reduced due to bad weather. Tom Benn and Shane Hyland got them off to a steady start reaching 34 when Benn was stumped by Matthew Crowther off Travis Pieters for 17 (47 balls), 34-1

James Price joined Hyland and they had added 20 runs when Hyland was caught by Dan Curwen off Travis Pieters for 19 (83 balls), 54-2. Without further addition to the score Ian Walling trapped James Price lbw for 14 (32 balls), 54-3

Travis Pieters took his third wicket having Terry Hunte caught by Michael Wellings for 3 (8 balls) 59-4,

Ian Walling then took charge bowling Ben Phillips for 2 (17 balls), 63-5. Saeed Bariwala was Walling's next victim lbw for 5 (4 balls) 64-6, he then bowled Saif Vohra for 0 (1 ball) 65-7

Ryan Shepherd and Chris Miller battled to save the innings but with the total on Walling struck bowling Chria Miller for 6 (16 balls) 72-8, next ball he had Toby Tyson lbw for 0 (1 ball) 72-9

The innings closed in 39.1 overs for 79 with Walling taking his seventh wicket bowling Ryan Shepherd for 9 (25 balls). Kuldeep Singh remained unbeaten on 0

Ian Walling took 7-17 from 11 overs with Travis Pieters 3-35 off 16

On a pitch with runs hard to come by Garstang were 13 when Mark Wallling was caught behind by Tom Benn off Toby Tyson for 8 (13 balls), 13-1

Kuldeep Singh struck trapping Michael Walling lbw for 3 (12 balls) 20-2, Toby Tyson took his second wicket having Michael Wellings caught by Terry Hunte for 7 (24 balls) 26-3

With 30 on the board Kendal took the vital wicket of Punit Bisht stumped by Tom Benn off Chris Miller for 5 (27 balls). 30-4. Miller struck again having Dan Curwen lbw for 2 (3balls), 34-5

Kendal were now on top and Danny Gilbert became Miller's third victim caught by Ben Phillips for 3 (11 balls) 38-6, Matthew Crowther and Naqib Rahman dug in to try and retrieve the situation.

Matthew Crowther had made 5 from 38 balls when he was trapped lbw by James Price, 46-7, Ian Walling joined in the fight but lost Rahman lbw to Chris Miller for 15 (36 balls) 60-8

The match was poised but with the score on 65 James Price ran out Ian Walling for 9 (44 balls) 65-9. The innings closed on 42 overs with Garstang 70 all out James Price running out Rohan Parekh 2 (16 balls)leaving Travis Pieters 4no (31 balls)

Chris Miller took 4-23 from 14 overs, Toby Tyson 2-10 off 7, James Price 1-15 from 8 and Kuldeep Singh 1-17 off 13

Longridge v Penrith

Penrith won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and invited the hosts to bat in a reduced over game, Longridge had reached 13 when they lost both openers, John Simpson lbw to Asher Hart 6 (28 balls) 13-1, then Tom Howarthj also lbw this time to Greg Hall for 5 (23 balls) 13-2

Asher Hart then had Zac Christie caught by Nicky Burns for 0 (3 balls) 13-3, Lachlan Bangs and James Whitehead played steadily and had taken the score to 41 when Bangs was caught by Jonathon Osborne off Greg Hall for 12 (22 balls) 41-4

Luke Platt joined Whitehead and they had a partnership of 39 when Platt became Hall's third victim caught by Jamie O'Brien for 16 (25 balls) 90-5

James Whitehead was next out caught by Greg Hall off Jamie O'Brien for 48 (71 balls) 101-6. Greg Hall trapped Ian Simpson lbw for 0 (5 balls) 107-7. Nick Wilkinson quickly followed caught behind by Alister Craig off Jamie O'Brien for 0 (2 balls) 108-8

That was the last Penrith success as Kyle Helm 17no (24 balls) and Jonathan Millward 18no (23 balls) saw the home team to the close reaching 140-8 in their 37 overs

Greg Hall took 4-40 in 17 overs, Jamie O'Brien 2-22 from 6 and Asher Hart 2-46 off 11

The Penrith reply followed the same course as the hosts, Alister Craig was bowled by Jonathan Millward for 2 (16 balls) 13-2, Asher Hart soon followed bowled by Jonathan Milward for 0 (9 balls) 14-2

Millward collected his third wicket bowling Henry Marshall for 3 (15 balls), 20-3. Nicky Burns was joined by Greg Hall and they battled to rebuild the visitor's innings.

They had taken the score to 84 when Burns was caught by James Whitehead off Ian Simpson for 42 (81 balls), 84-3. Daniel Wilson then trapped Samuel Hall lbw for 0 (1 ball) 88-5

Greg Hall was shielding his partners but lost Jonathan Osborne caught by James Whitehead off Ian Simpson for 1 (12 balls), 95-6. Ian Simpson took his third wicket with the last ball of the innings that of Nick Hodgson lbw 11 (17 balls) as Penrith closed on 126-7 with Greg Hall 51no (78 balls)

Jonathan Millward took 3-26 from 10 overs. Ian Simpson 3-38 off 13 and Daniel Wilson 1-38 from 11

St Annes v Blackpool

St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and invited the visitor's to bat, Blackpool lost both openers to Tom Bradley for 0 but recovered to make 221-7 in their 49 overs

The Blackpool run makers were Joshua Boyne 82no, Ciaran Johnson 37, Ockert Erasmus 35, Craig Brown 23 and Andy Furniss 18

Amar Ullah took 3-71 from 17 overs, Tom Bradley 2-49 off 13, Mohamed Nadeem 1-29 from 7 and Tom Higson 1-40 off 8

In reply St Annes made 163-6 thanks to Mohamed Nadeem 55 and Amar Ullah 50 with Tim Smithies 27.

Joshua Boyne took 2-18 from 7 overs Ockert Erasmus 2-49 off 17 and Matthew Grindley 2-53 from 16
