The Northern Cricket League Review

Another glorious sunny day for cricket, Garstang go top and Blackpool and Chorley share the spoils

DIVISION ONE:

Chorley v Blackpool

Blackpool travelled to Windsor Park with both sides winning their opening games, Chorley won the toss and put Blackpool into bat

Edwin Moulton carried on from were he left off last week having Ciaran Johnson out lbw for 1 and then the next ball repeating the action with Joshua Boyne lbw 0

Opener Matthew Houston battled with Jovaun Van Wyngaardt to rebuild the Blackpool innings, Van Wyngaardt fell to James Lee caught by Edwin Moulton for 7 off 28 balls, Ben Howarth soon followed caught behind by Harry Barclay off James Lee for 0

Andy Furniss joined Houston and had made 6 when he was out caught and bowled by Will Moulton, Jake Muncaster took on the challenge and batted patiently for 34 balls when he was bowled by Edwin Moulton for 7

Matthew Houston who had been holding the innings together was next out to the Barclay - Edwin Moulton combination caught behidn for 29 off 94 balls

Captain Paul Danson and Matthew Grindley knuckled down and slowly built a total they could defend, Danson was out for 26 off 47 balls caught by Stuart Naden off the bowling of Jamea Lee

The Blackpool innings closed after their 50 overs on 116-8 with Matthew Grindley 35no from 69 balls

Edwin Moulton took 4-35 off 14 overs, James Lee 3-26 from 14 and Will Moulton 1-12 off 7

After the problems the Blackpool batsmen had the Chorley players patiently tried to build their innings, Stuart Naden fell to Matthew Grindley lbw for 4 off 20 balls

Wian Van Zyl made 22 off 29 balls caught by Matthew Houston off the bowling of Jamie Thomson, it was a day when all the batsmen struggled Edwin Moulton 39 balls, Gayan Maneeshan 30 balls and Will Moulton 18 were all out for 5 runs each

Harry Barclay and Gaurav Dhar worked to get Chorley back in the game before both falling to Joshua Boyne, Barclay 12 from 60 balls and Dhar 16 from 43

Andrew Holdsworth was 21no from 35 at the close with the scores level 116-8 (including 19 extra's 10 no balls) giving Blackpool the winning draw

Jamie Thomson took 3-17 off 10 overs, Joshua Boyne 2-9 from 6, Jovaun Van Wyngaardt 2-29 from 13 Matthew Gringley 1-40 off 15

Fulwood & Broughton v Morecambe

It was another hot sunny day at Highfield, Fulwood & Broughton won the toss and put the visitors into bat.

Morecambe lost an early wicket with Mark Woodhead caught by Matthew Smith off the bowling of Chris Brookes for 0, fellow opener Sam Cooper became Brookes's second victim when he was out caught and bowled for 16

There followed a match winning stand between Luke Jongwe and Jamie Heywood both falling to Matthew Smith, Longwe bowled for 89 and Heywood lbw for 50

Smith and Richard Turner took two more wickets each and Morecambe were 193-8 after their 50 overs

Matthew Smith finnished with 4-33 off 10 overs, Chris Brookes 2-30 off 17 and Richard Turner 2-31 from 8

The Fulwood and Broughton innings mirrowed the Morecambe one, Mark Smith caught by Ryan Pearson off the bowling of Tommy Clough for 2

Charlie Rossiter quickly followed bowled by Clough for 0, Rana Pratap Singh Thakur Shiv 27 and professional Simon Kerrigan 26 fought to rebuild the innings

The introduction of Daniel Edwards into the attack changed the game in the visitors favour, He had Thur Shiv caught by Reuben Orr and took four further wickets supported by Tommy Clough adding two more to his earlier victims

Only Matthew Smith 28no showed any resistance to the Morecambe attack as they were bowled out for 116 in 48 overs

Daniel Edwards had figures of 5-31 from 16 overs and Tommy Clough 4-25 off 17

Garstang v Leyland

Garstang won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and invited their oppentents to bat

Tom Reece 16 was the only top order batsman to reach double figures, it was left to James Rounding 19, Will Monks 14, Alex Williams 12 and Andrew Jacques 22 to give the visitors something to bowl at, they were bowled out in 49.3 overs for 116

The pick of the Garstang bowlers was Fayaz Urghradar taking 5-33 off 11 overs supported by Ian Walling 2-19 off 15, Danny Gilbert 2-23 from 13.3 and Waris Khan Ahmadzai 1-17 from 6 overs

The Garstang reply faired no better but Michael Wellings 41 kept the hosts in the game, Travis Pieters 17 and Ian Walling 29 put Garstng insight of victory leaving the last pair of Naqib Rahman 8no and Waris Khan Ahmadzai 1no to see them over the line on 117-9 in 44.4 overs

For Leyland Andrew Jacques took 3-31 off 11 overs, Ross Bretherton 2-30 from 14, Karl Cross 1-35 off 17 and Will Jacques 1-20 from 2.4

Penrith v Netherfield

Penrith won the toss at Tynefield and invited the visitors to bat, Ben Barrow and Bradley Earl gave Netherfield a great start reaching 75 when Barrow was caught by Samuel Hall off the bowling of Greg Hall for 43

Twenty runs had been added when John Boyle was caught by Jonathon Osborne off the bowling Ashwin Hebbar for 2, 95-2, Bradfley Earl quickly followed 107-3 for 51 another victim for Ashwin Hebbar

John Huck was caught by Ashwin Hebbar bowled Greg Hall for 5 109-4, on 119 Netherfield lost their fifth wicket when Lewis Edge was caught by Samuel Hall off the bowling of Jonathon Osborne fo 4

Josh Dixon and Lewis Richardson took charge with a stand of 56, 175-6 Lewis Richardson lbw to Greg Hall for 26. Harrison Cox had made 1 when he became another Greg Hall victim caughtr by Alister Craig 181-7

Three runs had been added when Alister Craig ran out Nathan Chambers for 2, it became 198-9 when Greg Hall struck again when he bowled Matt Jackson for 3

The Netherfield innings came to an end on 210 from 46.3 overs with Greg Hall taking his sixth wicket Marc Hadwin caught and bowled for 4 leaving Josh Dixon 49no

Greg Hall bowled 15.3 overs and took 6-63, Ashwin Hebbar 2-16 from 8 and Jonathon Osborne 1-49 off 11

Penrith made a steady reply on 26 Nicky Burns was bowled by Matt Jackson for 15, wihout a run being scored Nick Hodgson was run out by Matt Jackson for 10, 26-2

Only three runs had been added when Matt Jackson struck again bowing Craig Cameron for 3, Ashwin Hebbar and Greg Hall retrieved the situation slightly taking the score to 59 when Hebbar was out for 2 caught by John Boyle off Nathan Chambers

Greg Hall had made 30 from 39 balls with 6 fours when he was out caught and bowled by Marc Hadwin, 65-5, Seven runs later it became 72-6 with Alister Craig out caught by Nathan Chambers off the bowling of Marc Hadwin

Mark Osborne and Samuel Hall came together and batted through the rest of the innings and at the close Penrith were 159-6 off 53 overs Hall 47 from 97 balls and Osborne 31 from 95

Marc Hadwin had 2-25 from 16 overs with Matt Jackson 2-41 off 10 and Nathan Chambers 1-39 from 10

Preston v Barrow

Barrow won the toss at West Cliff and decided to bat, Robin Adams and Ryan Gilmour gave them a good start, Adams making 54 and Gilmour 32 both falling to Mohammed llyas

Grant Roelofsen continued were the openers left off with 52, The Barrow innings closed on 200-5 in their 50 overs

Mohammed llyas took 2-48 with Asif Mahmood and Jitendra Kumar taking a wicket each

The Preston innings was a struggle from the start the top score was 15 by no 9 Mohammed Harish with three other batsmen scoring 11, Preston were bowled out for 83 in 47.4 overs

The wickets were shared between the Barrow bowlers, Ryan Gilmour taking 3-4 off 5.3 overs, Daryl Wearing 2-8 from 6, Sam Henderson 2-11 off 6, Toby Mowat 2-15 off 10 and Patrick Allington 1-10 off 6

St Annes v Fleetwood

On a glorious hot sunny day at Vernon Road Fleetwood won the toss and elected to bat

Matt Clark and Paul Willis got Fleetwood off to a quick start with Clark attacking the bowling, the introduction of Tom Higson into the attack brought St Annes some success

Fleetwood had reached 61 when Clark was caught at first slip by Amar Ullah off Higson's bowling for 41, one run later Higson struck again having Willis caught by Richard Staines for 14 62-2

Dean Bell and Neels Bergh were now at the wicket and they had a partnership of 85 Dean Bell was out trying to pull Tom Bradley and was caught by Amar Ullah for 42, 147-3.

Liam Castellas joined Bergh and they took the score to 174-3 when Bergh was bowled by Mohamed Needam for 52

Adam Shorrocks was next out caught by Richard Staines for 11 off 14 balls off the bowling of Mohamed Nadeem, 193-5, Nadeem struck again taking the wicket of Damien Hutchinson for 11 caught in the deep by Henry Higson 210-6

On 221 Fleetwood lost their seventh wicket that of Liam Castellas for 28 caught behind by Richard Staines off the bowling of Amar Ullah, The Fleetwood inninings closed shortly afterwards on 228-7 off their 50 overs

Mohamed Naddem took 3-76 off 16 overs, Tom Higson 2-32 off 11 with Tom Bradley 1-18 and Amar Ullah 1-63

St Annes got off to a good start with Gurman Bains and Henry Higson taking the score to 40 when Bains out well caught by Joe Bell off the bowling of Sam Bell for 22

Sam Bell struck again bowling Higson for 25 53-2, There was a promising stand with Mohamed Nadeem and Nathan Armstrong when Neels Bergh was introduced into the attack and had Nadeem out lbw for 19 94-3

On 104 Nathan Armstrong was out stumped off Joe Bell's bowling by Dean Bell for 29.

Jamar Ifill joined Amar Ullah and they added 29 runs before Ifill became another Bergh victim caught out on the longest boundary by Paul Willis for 24 off 20 balls including 2 sixes 133-5

St Annes tried to push on but on 151 they lost their 6th wicket when Richard Staines was stumped off the bowling of Neels Bergh, On 161 Amar Ullah was out for 25 bowled by Declan Clerkin

Tom Higson became Neels Bergh's fourth wicket when he was out lbw for 7, 165-8, Tom Bradley became the nineth wicket to fall caught by Liam Castallas off Declan Clerkin for 7

Matthew Derham 9no and Matthew Yeadon 0no batted out for St Annes who closed on 178-8 in their 50 overs

Neels Bergh was the pick of the Fleetwood bowlers with 4-34 off 13, Declan Clerkin 2-26, Sam Bell 2-61 and Joe Bell 1-24
