The Northern Cricket League Review

On a glorious sunny day the Northern Premier League was treated to some wonderful cricket.

The battle for the top saw last years champions v this years leaders with the champions coming out on top by 6 wickets

St Annes kept up their challenge with a last ball win against Fullwood & Broughton.

There were wins also for Chorley, Fleetwood, Garstang and Leyland

DIVISION ONE:

Blackpool v Netherfiled

Netherfield won the toss at Stanley Park and invited the hosts to bat, the total was 15 when Ciaran Johnson was trapped lbw to Matt Jackson for 0,

Matthew Houston and Joshua Boyne batted steadily and had taken the score to 57 when Joshua Boyne was out lbw to Matt Jackson for 21, 57-2

Jovaun Van Wyngaardt joined Houston they moved the total to 72 when Matthew Houston was bowled by John Boyle for 38 72-3

The fourth wicket soon followed when Boyle struck again having Ben Howarth caught by Harrison Cox for 4, 83-4

The combination of John Boyle and Marc Hadwin were causing the Blackpool batsmen problems, Marc Hadwin had Andy Furniss lbw for 11 106-5

The Netherfield bowlers made further inroads into the Blackpool innings when Van Wyngaardt was caught behind by Lewis Edge off Marc Hadwin for 23, 107-6

It did not get any better for two wickets fell without a run being added, Jake Muncaster caught and bowled by John Boyle for 0, 107-7 and then Paul Danson was bowled by Marc Hadwin for 0 107-8

Matthew Grindley and Jamie Thomson dug in and had taken the score to 124 when Thomson was bowled by John Boyle for 4, 124-9

Blackpool were all out in 45.5 overs when Marc Hadwin trapped Matthew Siddall lbw for 0 with total on136, Matthew Grindley remained unbeaten on 20no

Marc Hadwin had figures of 4-22 off 13.5 overs, John Boyle 4-36 from 14 with Matthew Jackson 2-26 off 9

The Netherfield batsmen were in no rush and the first wicket fell with the total on 22 when Ben Barrow was run out by Matthew Siddall for 12 (35 balls)

John Boyle joined Josh Dixon and they took the score to 67 when Boyle was caught by Matthew Grindley off Joshua Boyne for 13 (57 Balls), 68-2, Josh Dixon soon folowed caught behind by Ben Howarth for 42 (91 balls) 73-3

John Huck and Bradley Earl quickened the pace and moved the score in sight of victory when Huck was bowled by Joshua Boyne for 30 (30 balls) 129-4, Netherfield sealed their win shortly afterwards in the 39.3 overs at 138-4 with Bardley Earl 32no and Lewis Edge 4no

For Balckpool Joshua Boyne took 2-67 from 11.3 overs with Matthew Siddall 1-33 off 11

Chorley v Penrith

Penrith won the toss at Windsor Park and decided to bat, they lost four early wickets to Edwin Moulton, Ashwin Hebbar caught behind by Harry Barcley off the first ball for 0, and then Nick Hodgson bowled for 3

He had Samuel Hall caught by Will Moulton for 0 and Greg Cameron caught behind by Henry Barclay for 6, Alister Craig was the next to go bowled by Chris Harty for 12

Penrith were in dire trouble and Chris Stockdale and Greg Hall battled to rebuild the innings, Stockdale was out caught by Wian Van Zyl off Stuart Naden's bowling for 51 (108 balls) and Greg Hall another Naden victim caught by Edwin Moulton for 21 (51 balls)

Penrith were bowled out in 43.5 overs for 110, Edwin Moulton had figures of 4-35 off 10, Stuart Naden 3-17 from 6, Ian Oakes 2-8 off 6.5 and Chris Harty 1-26 from 12 o0vers

In reply the Chorley batsmen played steadily and knocked off the runs in 29.4 overs closing on 113-5 with Will Moulton top scoring with 39no

James Ellis took 2-12 off 4.4 overs, Jpnathon Osborne 1-12 from 3 and Ashwin Hebbar 1-23 off 7

Fleetwood v Morecambe

Morecambe won the toss and elected to bat and made 210-7 in their 50 overs thanks to Reuben Orr 54no with contributions from Luke Jongwe 37, Daniel Edwards 28 and 27 from Luke Pearson

Joe Bell took 2-13 from 7 with Alex Ryder 2-51 off 12, Damien Hutchinson 1-18 from 4 with Sam Bell 1-51 off 10

Fleetwood were made to fight for their victory scoring the winning runs with 1 ball to spare closing on 213-7 in 49.5 overs, Neels Bergh top scored with 45 supported by Dean Bell 41, Jeremy Davies 32 with James Gregson 26 (24 balls)

Alex Ryder 17no and Joe Bell 6no saw Fleetwood home. Stefan Dixon had 2-29 from 9, Luke Jongwe 2-38 off 9, Jamie Cassidy 2-49 from 11.5 with Daniel Edwards 2-79 off 15 overs

Garstang v Preston

Garstang batted first at the Riverside Sports ground and lost Fayaz Ughradar caught behind by Haroon Patel off the bowling of Rizwan Patel for 0, Michael Wellings fell to the same combination for the same score 0

After losing Michael Walling for 18 Mark Walling and Coen Oosthuysen took charge to enable Garstang to declare after 49 overs on 256-7, Oosthuysen making 90 and Walling 74, Rizwan Patel finished with 3-50 off 9

Preston were bowled out fot 96 in 30.4 overs Rizwan Patel top scoring with 26, Danny Gilbert did the damage for Garstang with 5-45 from 11 overs with Fayaz Ughradar taking 3-21 from 9 and Travis Pieters 1-5 from 4 and Coen Oosthuysen 1-0 off 4

Leyland V Barrow

Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and batted first and closed on 217-8, they were indebted to their professional Umar Waheed who made an unbeaten 105 with support from Henry Thompson 29 and James Rounding 27

Daryl Wearing took 3-43 from 10 overs, Ryan Gilmour 3-44 off 11, Jordan Nicholson 1-19 from 7 and Gary Collins 1-51 off 12

The Barrow batsmen had no answer to the Leyland attack and were bowled out in 31.1 overs for 66 with Daryl Wearing top scoring on 14 with 13 from Robin Adams and Jordan Nicholson

For Leyland Ross Bretherton took 3-15 from 7, Andrew Jacques 3-23 off 7, Andrew Makinson 2-13 from 5, Karl Cross 1-13 from 11 with Henry Thompson finnishing the innings with 1-2 off 1.1

St Annes v Fulwood & Broughton

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at Vernon Road and chose to bat, the openers had taken the score to 28 when Richard Turner was bowled by Jamar Ifill for 8 28-1.

Simon Kerrigan joined Rana Pratap Singh Thakur Shiv and they took the score to 44 when Thakur Shiv was caught by Mohamed Nadeem off the bowling of Muhammad Imran-Sadiq for 23, 44-2

The third wicket fell at 56 when Matthew Smith was bowled by Amar Ullah for 9, Charlie Rossiter soon followed caught one handed by Jamar Ifill off Amar Ullah for 1, 62-4

Mark Smith joined Kerrigan and they took charge of the innings with a partnership of 119 taking the score to 181 when Smith became another Ullah victim caught by Thomas Bradley for 56, 181-5

Kerrigan began to attack the bowling but lost partner Jon Fenton stumped by Richars Baines off Ullah for 4 208-6, with the innings drawing to a close Kerrigan was out for 95 caught by Alex Bradley off Tom Higson, 216-7

The innings closed on 220 for 8 Dominic Jackson run out by Tom Hicson off the last ball for 0, Amar Ull's figures 4-64 from 16 overs, Jamar Ifil 1-45 off 12, Muhammad Imran-Sadiq 1-25 from 7 with Tom Higson 1-50 off 12

St Annes got off to a bad start with Henry Higson run out by Matthew Smith for 3, 4-1. Incoming batsman Jamar Ifill and Muhammad Imran-Sadiq began the St Annes fight back but on 62 Ifill was out caught by Simon Kerrigan off the bowling of Jon Fenton for 40, 62-2

The third wicket soon followed with Mohamed Nadeem bowled by Matthew Smith for 1, 75-3, Amar Ullah was next to go caught by Simon Kerrigan off Arbab Munir for 0, 79-4

Captain Nathan Armstrong and Imran-Sadiq took the score to 90 when Imran-Sadiq was out lbw to Arbab Munir for 25, 90-5, Richard Staines joined Armstrong and they looked to be taking control when Armstrong shouldered arms to Richard Turner and was bowled for 22, 141-6

Tom Higson was Staines next partner and they worked towards the visitors total but on 189 Higson was out lbw to Arbab Munir for 35, 189-7,

Andy Drake came to the wicket and supported Staines who took over the St Annes charge for victory, it came down to the last ball St Annes needing 1 run for the win and it seemed right that it was Staines who drove the ball down the gound for four to give St Annes victory on 224-7

Arbab Munir took 3-85 from 17 overs, Richard Turner 1-14 off 5, Matthew Smith 1-23 from 9 and Jon Fenton 1-34 off 8
