Leyland v St Annes - The Stanning Memorial Ground

St Annes suffered their second loss of the weekend as Leyland took a comprehensive 15 points at The Stanning Memorial Ground.

After inserting the Fylde Coast side Leyland made immediate inroads as Kiruparan was caught at the wicket off the bowling of Karl Cross.

Gurman Bains (29) and Luke Wilks (25) offered some resistance but it was not enough as two runouts from Richard Everett started a collapse of sorts as Leyland sub-professional Brett Pelser entered the fray to collect six for 33 in 11.2 overs.

Leyland had a stuttering start as Parkinson was removed by Matthew Grindley but some stability was maintained as their top order marshalled the chase with aplomb to take them past the winning post in the 34th over.

Thanks to a proficient weekend of cricket Leyland now sit top of Division One on 41 points, their nearest rivals are Blackpool CC (35 Points) and Chorley CC (31 Points)

Morecambe v Fleetwood - Woodhill Lane

Morecambe's bowling attack swept through Fleetwood's batting line up to leave any hopes of victory in tatters as they bowled the Broadwater line-up out for 42 in 23.4 overs.

Earlier Fleetwood themselves had put in a skilful bowling performance to restrict Morecambe to 129-8 in their allocation of 37 overs.

Laurence Read held the Morecambe innings together with a good knock of 52 before he was removed by Adam Parker 3-43, he was ably assisted by Lewis Edge 17 and Viraj Bhati 23 as they dragged Morecambe to a respectable total.

What followed was quite remarkable as the Woodhill Lane outfit demolished Fleetwood's top order with great haste. Sub-professional Daryn Smit had a red letter day as he picked up four for 7 in 5.4 destructive overs.

Edward Read had a good day with the ball as he picked up 3-22 including the decisive wickets of Travis Dean and Adam Parker.

Division Two

Division 2 Round Up:

Four Northern League Division Two games managed to avoid the inclement weather on Bank Holiday Monday.

Blackpool, fresh from victory against Morecambe took on Chorley at Stanley Park. Chorley won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Blackpool to bat.

Chris Harty was particularly accurate and prevented the Blackpool batsmen from scoring at any great rate, Skipper Sam Owen made a patient 44 and he was ably assisted by Ciaran Johnson 36 before Jake Muncaster made 33 in good time.

Ian Oakes was the pick of the Chorley bowlers as he picked up 6 for 34.

Chorley's innings had a turbulent start as Chris Baines and Dec Fisher both picked up wickets in their first over.

Alex Howarth 23 and Joe Barker 32 came together to give the innings some impetus but when Howarth was bowled by Baines the scoring rate slowed and the Blackpool attack moved swiftly to clean up the tail to give them 15 points.

Fleetwood put in a stellar performance as they beat Morecambe at Broadwater, bowling first they restricted the Woodhill Lane side to 159-6 from their allocation of 39 overs.

Matthew Derham 37 and Steven Fisher 48 made a good start for Morecambe but wickets began to fall as Wayne Clarke 4-26 came into the attack, Phillip Dennison 42 provided late momentum as he guided Morecambe to a respectable total.

Fleetwood's batsmen then made short work of the target as Paul Willis made 79 not out in an innings which had seven 4's and three 6's, he was assisted by Wayne Clarke who put in a fine all round performance as he hit 51no to see Fleetwood home in the 37th over.

Leyland had to settle for a winning draw at Vernon Road as St Annes finished 158-7 in the setting sun.

Earlier the Fox Lane side had scored well to record a total of 191-8 from their 45 overs. Hamza Khan 65 and Ross Bretherton 61 were the mainstays of the Leyland batting line-up whilst Kev Reid bowled with accuracy to pick up 3-21.

St Annes had a decent start as Geeth Malinda Kamburugamuwe 22 and Alex Bradley 21 built a good foundation from which to build but it was not to be as the Leyland attack bowled with precision to thwart the St Anne's batsmen ensuring that they could not score at the required rate.

The game petered out to a draw as David Bartholomew 30no and Kevin Reid saw out the remaining overs to frustrate the Leyland bowlers.

Penrith claimed the spoils in the only Cumbrian derby match which went ahead as Kendal travelled to the Eden Valley to face Penrith.

Penrith won the toss and elected to field, they made immediate inroads as Dan Morland 3-28 picked up three early wickets, Paul Dodds (41) was the only Kendal batsmen to offer any resistance to the quartet of Penrith bowlers as Kendal were bowled out for 89 in 33 overs.

Kendal had a good start as they removed both Penrith openers cheaply but this was as good as it got for the Shap Road team as Eddie Robson 30no and Kieron Trevaskis 27no saw the Tynefield Park outfit home in the 28th over.
