Blackpool and Lancaster win but Darwen and Morecambe falter

It was another entertaining round of Northern Cricket League action, as Blackpool and Lancaster march on, whilst Morecambe lose their first game of the season.

DIVISION ONE:

Barrow v Blackpool

Defending League Champions Blackpool, climbed to the top of Division One, after winning by 5 wickets at Barrow. Blackpool even at this early stage of the campaign are looking unstoppable as they aim to retain their league championship.

Barrow who themselves have been in good form, were blown away in the first innings by the bowling of Richard Gleeson who returned figures of 6-32. Barrow were bowled out for just 74 in 36.3 overs. Namibian professional Christi Viljeon weighing in with figures of 2-19, whilst Steven Mercer had figures of 2-9.

Barrow's Chris D'Leny offered some resistance with a top scoring 33 off 90 balls, whilst Tharanga Paranavitana was the only other player to make double figures with 12.

In reply Blackpool had to battle as Barrow put the pressure on taking 5 wickets, however Richard Gleeson with an unbeaten 29 off 83 balls eased the Champions home in 31.2 overs closing on 75-5.

Tharanga Paranavitana and Gary Collins took 2 wickets apiece, whilst Daryl Wearing claimed the other wicket.

Chorley v Morecambe

Chorley ended Morecambe's unbeaten record, after defeating Josh Dixon's team by 43 runs at Windsor Park.

Andrew Holdsworth's team batting first closed on 139-6 off a rain reduced 45 overs, Overseas player Brenton McDonald top scoring with 55 off 104 balls. Ian Dickinson also in the runs with 29 off 74. Andrew Holdsworth batting down the order made a steady 22 off 23 balls.

Edward Read had the best bowling figures for Morecambe with 3-47

Morecambe's reply was a disaster as they lost the top three cheaply and never recovered to be all out for 96 in 37.2 overs. James Lee took 2 of the first three wickets and finished with 3-23. Will Moulton was brought into the attack and destroyed the tail with figures of 4-11.

Philip Dennison 29 and Edward Read 27 offered the main resistance from the team from Woodhill Lane.

Kendal v Preston

It was a first win of the season for Kendal as they saw off Preston by 82 runs at Shap Road. Both sides have been out of form, it was no surprise that Preston put Kendal in, hoping to test their batting frailties.

However despite getting the early wicket of Richard Herron who was caught by the ever green Ralph Cairns off the bowling of Afzal Kapadia.

Kendal steadied the ship through Darren Braithwaite and Saeed Bariwala, taking the score to 50. However Preston broke the Braithwaite and Bariwala partnership when Bariwala was caught by Afzal Kapadia off the bowling of Shabnan Ali.

At this stage Preston's tails were up as they saw off both Eldred Hawken for 0, and Ryan Shepherd for 10. Kendal now were in a bit of trouble on 74-4. Darren Braithwaite was joined by Shane Hyland and their partnership pushed Kendal on to 141,with Braitwhaite falling for a top scoring 79.

Kendal closed on 196-8 with Sajid Patel returning the best figures with 3-46.

Preston were bowled out in 44.3 overs for 114, Chris Miller and Saeed Bariwala claiming 3 wickets each with Eldred Hawken taking 2.

Lancaster v Darwen

Lancaster's good start to the season continues after they defeated Darwen by 20 runs at Lune Road. Ben Simm's team are now 3 from 3 and look a team that mean business in 2015.

The hosts however struggled in the first innings as they were bowled out for 132 in 49.2 overs. Darwen Sub Professional Adnan Ghaus returning figures of 6-35.

Iain Perrieman top scoring with 24, with Iain Burstow scoring 23.

With a low total to defend, Lancaster bowled and fielded well as they bowled Darwen out for 112 in 36.1 overs. Ben Simm returning figures of 5-23. Neil Cordingley top scoring with 21 for the visitors.

Leyland v Fleetwood

Leyland picked up a much needed win after defeating Fleetwood by 4 wickets. Fleetwood chose to bat and closed on a competitive score of 176-9 off 50. David King top scoring with 61 off 114 balls and Ian Holland 51 off 50 balls.

Sam Oldham had Leyland's beat return with figures of 4-27 and David Makinson had 3-31.

Leyland edged home in 48.1 overs, closing on 178-6, Chris Parkinson top scoring with 52. Andrew Makinson's unbeaten 34 seeing the hosts home. Fleetwood's Adam Parker returning figures of 3-52.

St Annes v Netherfield

Netherfield picked up their first win of the season following a 5 wicket win at St Annes.

St Annes batted first on a rain affected wicket closed on 163-8 off a reduced 45 overs

Andy Kellett and Sub professional Mohammed Zimmy Kahn forming a second wicket partnership of 56. Kellett and Lukman Vahaluwala also forming a solid partnership of 22.

Lukman Vhaluwala top scored with 44 and formed an eight wicket partnership of 32 with Mitchell Bolus.

John Mason returned figures of 3-29 for the visitors.

In reply Netherfield saw the game home in the 41st over closing on 164-5. The visitors starting brightly with a first wicket partnership of 27 between Marc Brown and Ben Barrow. A fifth wicket partnership of 39 between John Huck and John Mason put the visitors into a winning position

John Huck was out for 56 off 66 balls. John Mason and Dieter Klein saw Netherfield home both 24 not out

Blackpool v Barrow

The match was abandoned without a bll being bowled

Darwen v lancaster

Darwen demolished Lancaster by 8 wickets at Birch Hall. Lancaster were blown away for just 41 in 26 overs. Sam Painter,Chris Crompton and Thomas Lawrenson with 3 wickets each.

Darwen raced home in 8 overs closing on 44-2. Michael Douglas with an unbeaten 23.

Morecambe v Chorley

Chorley defeated Morecambe by 7 wickets. Morecambe were all out for 121 in 43.4 overs, Michael Mead returning figures of 3-31 and Morecambe's Matthew Derham top scoring with 34.

In reply Max Harper's unbeaten 49 off 126 balls and a top score of 51 off 79 by Jack Catterall saw Chorley home in 41.3 overs as they closed on 122-3.

Netherfield v St Annes

Netherfield won the battle at the top of the table as they defeated St Annes by 57 runs at Parkside Road. Netherfield closed on 155-9 off 45. Brendan Herron the top scorer with 51. Nathan Dixon chipping in with 31 whilst Scott Clement scored an unbeaten 19.

St Annes were all out for 98 in 40 overs, Matthew Clinton returning 4-15 and Joe Portman 3-37.

Preston v Kendal

Kendal sauntered past Preston b y 7 wickets in a rain reduced 33 over game at West Cliff. Preston were all out for 57 in 17 overs. Toby Tyson returning figures of 3-34.

In reply Kendal knocked the runs off in 17.1 overs closing on 58-3 with Steve Watson making 24.
