Morecambe march on with Darwen and Blackpool close behind

It was a busy Bank Holiday Monday of action in The Northern Cricket League as Morecambe remain the early season pace setters, whilst defending League champions Blackpool march on to another victory;

DIVISION ONE:

Blackpool v Chorley

The bowling attack of Christi Viljeon and Richard Gleeson were in scintillating form as Blackpool defeated Chorley by 5 wickets at Stanley Park.

In a low scoring game, Blackpool put Chorley in with the visitors bowled out for 103 in 44.3 overs. Richard Gleeson had figures of 4-36. and Christi Viljeon 4-51,

Brenton McDonald battled through with a top scoring 22 off 54 , with Will Moulton, Jack Bentham and Ian Oakes the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Andy Furniss and Stephen Twist with 1 wicket apiece were the other wicket takers.

In reply Blackpool saw the game home in 35.3 overs, closing on 106-5. Chorley to their credit put pressure on taking 5 wickets, however an unbeaten 31 off 99 balls by Matthew Houston, as well as the 26 off 25 balls by Christi Viljeon eased the champions home to victory.

Chorley's James Lee had figures of 3-44. Brenton McDonald and Chris Harty taking one wicket each.

Darwen v Kendal

Darwen eventually ran out convincing winners as they saw off the Kendal challenge by 89 runs at Birch Hall.

Kendal's batting issues continuing to haunt them, as they were bowled out for 64 in just 29.4 overs after earlier bowling Darwen out for a modest total of 153 in 47.4 overs.

Darwen struggling throughout their innings, as Kendal's South African professional Eldred Hawken returned figures of 4-39, with Saeed Bariwala in the wickets with figures of 3-25. Stu Parkin, Chris Miller and Andrew Dugdale rolling back the years with 1 wicket apiece.

The hosts iwere ndebted to the lower order batting of Neil Cordingley who top scored with 36, whilst Reece Davies battled for a crucial 26 runs. Ammer Mirza opened with a steady 36 runs.

Kendal were blown away in their reply as David Bowden ripped through Chris Miller's team with figures of 3-11, whilst Niall Burke, Neil Cordingley and Sub Professional Daniel Salpietro claimed two wickets apiece.

Eldred Hawken top scoring with 34 for the visitors in an otherwise forgettable innings for the visitors as Darwen march on.

Leyland v Lancaster

Lancaster making it two straight wins, whilst Leyland suffered their second straight League defeat.

Leyland batting first were skittled out for just 95 in 28.5 overs, Callum East with figures of 5-31. Iain Perrieman with a brace of wickets, with Liam Moffatt and Rameez Raja taking one wicket each.

Karl Cross top scored with 22 off 19 balls for Leyland.

In reply Lancaster eased home in 35 overs closing on 96-4. Jamie Heywood batting through the innings for a steady 39 off 105 balls easing Ben Simm's men across the line. Charlie Swarbrick also contributing with 22 off 31 balls.

For Leyland David Makinson returning figures of 2-23, with Karl Cross and Sam Oldham taking a wicket each.

Morecambe v St Annes

Morecambe continue to lead the way at the top of Northern Cricket League Division One, winning their third straight game this time defeating St Annes by 97 runs at Woodhill Lane.

Josh Dixon's men continue to impress as they set Andy Kelletts men a target of 192-5 off 50 overs.

Mark Woodhead with a powerful 85 runs, lead the charge with Josh Dixon making 37. Suraj Randiv making a useful 20 and Gareth Pedder unbeaten on 19 with Edward Read also unbeaten with 11.

St Annes's Matthew Grindley was their most economical bowler with figures of 2-37, whilst Mitchell Bolus and sub professional Hendro Puchert, claimed one wicket a piece.

In reply St Annes were blown away in 44.5 overs for just 95. Eddie Read returning figures of 4-24 and Suraj Randiv 4-45 with. Tommy Clough taking the other two wickets.

St Annes early seasons struggles continuing as they look to respond. Morecambe marching on to another 15 point win.

Netherfield v Penrith

Penrith won the Cumbrian derby after defeating Netherfield by 5 wickets.

Netherfield losing their third straight game of the season, on a high scoring afternoon at Parkside Road.

Kriss Mclean winning the toss and putting the hosts in and Penrith got off to a great start as Ben Barrow fell for a duck with Netherfield on 0-1.

However a second wicket partnership of 136 off 30 overs, steadied the Netherfield innings, as Richard Potter hit his first century as he top scored with 113 off 140 balls (11 fours and 3 sixes).

Once Marc Brown fell to Paul Hindmarch for 44, Netherfield battled through a third wicket partnership of 42 in 12 overs through John Huck and Rick Potter.

Netherfield lost further wickets through Paul Hindmarch who returned figures of 5-64, as the hosts closed on 228-5.

In reply Penrith battled with a first wicket stand of 45 between Nicky Burns and Michael Slack. Before forming a second wicket partnership of 27 between Alex Atkinson and Nicky Burns.

Alex Atkinson fell just short on a century, 98 off 66 balls.

Penrith getting over the line in 46.5 overs closing on 229-5. Greg Hall and Jonathan Osbourne seeing the visitors home.

Netherfield's bowlers shared the wickets with Mark Clarkson, Dieter Klein, Ryan Wilson and Rick Potter taking 1 wicket each.

Preston v Barrow

Barrow eased past struggling Preston by 8 wickets at West Cliff.

Preston's early season struggles showing no sign of improvement as they were bowled out for 72 in just 25 overs.

Adam Hunter coming to the forefront of the Barrow attack with figures of 4-22. Daryl Wearing and Gary Collins taking two wickets each.

Preston professional Sajid Patel top scoring with 21, with Yasin Patel and Mohammed Bhola the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Barrow finished the game off in just 17.5 overs, Dean Williams setting the victory up with a top scoring 34, whilst the 21 by Toby Mowat put them on the verge with Tharanga Paranavitnas 16 and Sam Dutton 1 seeing Barrow home to the win.

Division Two

Division 2 Round Up:

Leyland, St Annes and Netherfield continue to lead the way at the top of Division Two, whilst Kendal pick up their first win of the season.

Barrow v Preston

Barrow overcome a resilient Preston by 8 wickets at Ernest Pass.

Omer Sabir's men setting the hosts with a reasonable chase of 154 all out. Mustafa Durrani the main stay of the innings with a top scoring 92. Syed Ajmal Abbas Shah with 22, and Abdulla Kadvas 26 also contributing.

Barrow skipper Paul Riley returning figures of 4-40, whilst Jordan Nicholson returned figures of 3-8. Patrick Allington and Sam Henderson took 1 wicket each.

In reply Barrow eased home in 33.4 overs, Peter Deeks the main scorer with 88, whilst Tom Penny's 32 and the unbeaten 24 by Guy Heffernen saw Barrow home.

Chorley v Blackpool

Blackpool continue to respond from their opening day defeat, as they saw off Chorley by 3 wickets at Windsor Park.

Chorley were all out for 111 in 41.5 overs, Jamie Thompson and Joel Watson taking 3 wickets each, Sam Owen taking 2, Matthew Siddall and Chris Baines with 1 each.

Jack Catterall with a top scoring 22 off 38 balls for Chorley

Blackpool winning in 46.3 overs closing on 112-7, Ciaran Johnson with an unbeaten 57 off 110 balls guiding Sam Owen's team to victory, Fo Chorley Michael Mead and Edwin Moulton took 2 wickets each.

Kendal v Darwen

A youthful Kendal defeated Darwen by 32 runs at Shap Road. Kendal batted first and were all out for 128 in 43.5 overs.

Ethan Burrow with a top scored of 29 off 32 balls and valuable contributions from. Mike Dugdale also contributing with 18 whilst Shaun Stuart 23, by Oliver Tyson 22 and Mike Dugdale 18

Zac Whalley returned the best figures of 3-25 for Darwen

Toby Tyson was the hero for Kendal as his spell of 4-15 helped Kendal to victory, with Ethan Burrows 3-34 also making inroads into the Darwen innings. Darwen were all out for 96 in 41.1 overs. Andrew Brown top scoring with 31 off 51 balls.

Lancaster v Leyland

28 and Michael Birchall's 3-28 saw Lancaster all out for 124 in 42 overs.

Alex Metcalfe with a captains knock of 36 and Lawrie Atkinson with 33 were the main run makers for the hosts.

Tom Reece with 66 and 34 by Dale Vardy set Leyland up for the win seeing the visitors home in 30.3 overs closing on 126-4.

Penrith v Netherfield

A Joe Portman hat trick eased Netherfield to a 7 wicket win at Penrith.

Penrith batting first were all out for just 86 in 43 overs. Portman's 5-25 including the hat trick and Marc Hadwisn 3-11 helping Netherfield to an easy chase.

Netherfield knocked the runs off in 19.3 overs. Craig Walmsley the top scorer with 33. Matthew Goodall with an unbeaten 21 seeing the visitors home as they closed on 86-3.

St Annes v Morecambe

St Annes defeated Morecambe by 6 wickets at Vernon Road

Morecambe closing on 176-5 off 45 overs. Gulam Maje top scoring with 46 off 93. and both Luke Bray 44 and Phil Thornton with 40.were not out at the close

David Bartholomew returning figures of 2-43 for St Annes

St Annes won in the 43rd over closing on 178-4. Thomas Bradley 75 off 88 balls was.ably assisted by Luke Wilks with 45 off 78 balls. David Bartholomew 22no and Ricky Parmar 8no saw the host hokme.

Gulam Maje had figures of 2-20 off 12 overs for the visitors
