Morecambe drop points as Darwen and Fleetwood close in, while the Blackpool challenge falters on a dramatic afternoon of action in the Northern Premier Cricket League.
DIVISION ONE:
Barrow v Chorley
Barrow picked up a much needed win as they defeated an out of sorts Chorley side by 54 runs in a rain affected encounter at Ernest Pass.
The game getting underway at 2.30pm with the overs reduced to 42 aside.
Chorley won the toss and invited Barrow to bat. The decision seemed a good one as Barrow were 40-4 with Keian McCullagh doing the damage for Chorley.
Barrow staged a recovery thanks to Ryan Gilmour posting a crucial unbeaten knock of 30 off 73 balls, with contributions of 25 by Greg Reynolds as well as 21 by the returning Daryl Wearing all helped in reaching 132-8 in their 42 overs.
Keiran Mc Cullagh was Chorley's best bowler with 4-19 supported by Will Moulton 3-19.
In reply Chorley were blitzed by the bowling of Toby Mowat and Gary Collins. Mowat returning figures of 4-12, with Gary Collins weighing in 3-14 as they were bowled out for 78 in 35.5 overs
Darwen v Blackpool
Darwen closed in on Morecambe after winning by 65 runs against current League Champions Blackpool.
Darwen started their innings badly reduced to 18-3 Ammer Mirza and Reece Davies falling to Richard Gleeson and John Cordingley was dismissed by Christi Viljoen.
Sub Professional Raheel Majeed was key in Darwen's recovery as he guided the team from Birch Hall to some form of stability taking them past 100. He had partnerships with David Bowden 19, Neil Cordingley 10 and Niall Burke 7 which gave the home side a total to defend.
Majeed's scintillating innings came to an end when on 79 he was caught and balled by Richard Gleeson with the total on 146. The innings ended shortly after with the host's bowled out for 147 in 49.1 overs.
Richard Gleeson finished with the magnificent figures of 8-41 from 19.1 overs and Christi Viljoen took 2-52.
In reply Blackpool's top 3 went in quick succession leaving the Stanley Park side stranded on 4-3. Neil Cordingley doing the damage taking the wickets of Matthew Houston and Tom Jefferson and Niall Burke bowling Josh Boyne.
A partnership of 36 between Ben Howarth and Steven Mercer delayed the inevitable for a while but the introduction of Raheel Majeed to the attack saw the end of the Blackpool innings as he claimed the wickets firstly of Steven Mercer for13 and finally Ben Howarth for 21.
Blackpool had been bowled out for 82 in 26.2 overs thanks to Neil Cordingley 5-24, Niall Burke 3-22 and Raheel Majeed 2-5.
Fleetwood v Netherfield
Fleetwood also remain in contention for the League title after defeating Netherfield by 28 runs in a rain affected encounter.
Netherfield won the toss and asked Fleetwood to bat and would have been happy as Fleetwood were bowled out for 119 in 29.4 Overs.
Fleetwood professional David King once again held the innings together top scoring with 40 supported by the late order James Wilson 16, Captain Mat Clark 18 and Joseph Davies 12 to enable them to top the 100 mark.
Mark Clarkson with figures of 4-32 and Dieter Klein 3-23 did the damage.
However Netherfield's reply was blitzed by the bowling of Adam Parker and youngster James Amor as Netherfield were all out for 91 in 34.2 Overs.
Adam Parker took 5-43 from 17overs with James Amor taking 4-10 from 4.2 and David King took the other wicket.
Kendal v St Annes
St Annes moved above Kendal as they won by 12 runs in a low scoring game at Shap Road.
Kendal dominated as St Annes were all out for just 72 in 32.5 overs. St Annes at one stage were struggling on 34-7 and then 13 from no 10 Mitchell Bolus saw them to their final total.
The bowling of Eldred Hawken and Chris Miller did the damage Hawken with 5-18 and Chris Miller taking 4-46.
The Kendal wicketkeeper Richard Herron took 5 catches and 1 stumping.
With a low score to chase Kendal would have fancied their chances however St Annes had other ideas as they shocked Kendal by bowling them out for just 60 in 28.2 Overs.
The introduction of professional Xander Pitchers into the attack started the collapse with him taking 4-5 and Matthew Grindley providing support at the other end and finished with 3-22 from 14 overs.
Lancaster v Penrith
Penrith eased past Lancaster by 139 runs at Lune Road,
Penrith won the toss and elected to bat posting an imposing 208-8, Ryan Carruthers with 71 and Alex Atkinson with 62 the main run makers with Paul Hindmarch giving support with 30 runs.
Ben Simm had the best bowling return with figures of 4-46.
In reply Lancaster were blown away for 69 in 18.2 overs. Ben Simmwith 18 and Samuel Moorby 16 the only Lancaster batsmen to reach double figures Paul Hindmarch doing the damage as he returned figures of 6-39 in 9.2 overs
Leyland v Morecambe
Morecambe dropped points at the top as Leyland got a winning draw,
In a rain affected game reduced to 35 overs Leyland won the toss and decided to bat, They made 141-7 off their 35 overs with their leading run maker Richardt Frenz top scoring with 58 along with contributions of Luis Reece 23 Sam Oldham20 and 19 from Henry Thompson.
Suraj Randiv had figures of 3-59 from 18 overs supported by Tommy Clough 2-28 and Edward Read 1-50.
Morecambe were 109-8 in reply after 35 overs, Suaj Randiv with 29 and Lewis Edge 29 gave Morecambe hope but when they were out left they were hanging on for the draw.
Sam Oldham took the wicket of Edge and finished with 3-20. The other wicket takers were David Makinson 2-20, Luis Reece 2-36 and Karl Cross 1 -17.

Chorley v Barrow
Chorley got a winning draw with Barrow.
Barrow invited Chorley to bat and they were 19-2 when Michael Critchley joined Max Harper. They had a partnership of 73 when Harper was out for 31, Critchley was out for 59 with the score on 124. Roland Horridge then took over and steered the total to 160- 7 and was unbeaten on 25.
Jordan Nicholson took 4-35 from 11 overs.
Barrow lost and early wicket then a second wicket partnership of 34 between Jordan Nicholson and Matthew Wall gave Barrow a chance but when they were out Nicholson 34 and Wall 18 the game swung towards a Chorley victory. Robin Adams with 23 gave hope and they hung on and were 100-8 at the close.
Rex Purnell with 4-18 and Matthew Tinsley 2-8 gave Barrow a fright.
Morecambe v Leyland
Leyland remain second and behind league leaders Netherfield after a 3 wicket win at Morecambe.
Leyland won the toss and put Morecambe in, Morecambe were all out for 115 in 39.4 overs with Adam Derham scoring 48 and Steven Fisher 18 with Joe Singleton 10 the only batsmen to reach double figures.
The introduction of Michael Birchall into the attack turned the game with figures of 4-40,
Leyland were made to fight for their win and it was thanks to unbeaten innings of 40 from Dale Vardy and 11 from Steven Pallett with contributions from Hamza Khan 22, Lloyd Tennant 15, Rss Bretherton saw the visitors home in 38.4 overs closing on 116-7
All the Morecambe bowlers bowled tightly Joel Derham taking 4-17 and Irfan Qayyum 2-19 off 12.
Netherfield v Fleetwood
Netherfield continue to dominate at the top of Northern Premier Cricket League Division Two after defeating Fleetwood by 8 wickets.
The game reduced to 38 overs, and Netherfield asked Fleetwood to bat. After the loss of two early wickets Nick Wall and Andy Singleton steadied the ship but when both were out for 29.
It was left to James Gregson unbeaten on 30 and 18 from Mark Wilkinson to push on and Fleetwood were 123-8 in their 38 overs.
When Marc Hadwin was introduced he reoved the middle order and finished with 4-29 form 12 overs.
Netherfield took only 25.2 overs to reach their winning total of 124-2 thanks to Matthew Goodall with 52 and Matthew Atkinson unbeaten on 52.
Penrith v Lancaster
Penrith were awarded the game as Lancaster were unable to raise a team
St Annes v Kendal
St Annes made light work of a depleted Kendal easing home by 9 wickets.
Kendal were all out in 32.5 overs for 71 with Oliver Tyson top scoring with 35.
The St Annes wicket takers were Matthew Yeardon 4-19, Jake Higson 3-8 and Kevin Reid 3-10.
The hosts raced home in 18 overs closing on 72-1, Josh Taylor was unbeaten on 29 and Ricky Parmar scored 27.
