Another change at the top

A rain affected afternoon sees Fleetwood go top of Division One as Darwen fall to surprise defeat

DIVISION ONE:

Blackpool v St Annes

The rain swept in at Stanley Park as Blackpool closed with a winning draw against St Annes.

The defending League Champions batting first posted a competitive score of 181-8 off 50 overs. Matthew Houston opened with a top scoring knock of 76 off 147 balls. Andy Furniss and Stephen Twist both made some crucial runs, with Furniss making 33 off 37 balls and Twist 28 off 48 balls.

St Annes professional Xander Pitchers bowled through and had figures of 3-72 off his 25 overs

In reply the visitors were doing well at 79-3, before the rain came in on the 28th over, Xander Pitchers was unbeaten on 36 off 51 balls.

The rain, came and with very little hope of the game resuming the match was called off as Blackpool take the draw.

Darwen v Barrow

Tharanga Paranavitana showed his class as he helped Barrow to a 103 run win at Darwen. Paranavitana top scored with 53 off 69 balls, before returning figures of 4-24, including a hat trick in a result which was the surprise of the afternoon.

The visitors batting first were bowled out in 48.4 overs for 195. Sam Dutton with 40 off 43 balls was in a key stand with Tharanga Paranavitanas to give Barrow a respectable total.

James Price had figures of 5-43 including the hat trick for the hosts supported by John Cordingley 3-50.

In reply Darwen were blown away for just 92 in 26 overs, James Price with 28, Ammer Mirza 22 and John Cordingley 12 were the only Darwen batsmen to reach double figures.

Daryl Wearing had figures of 5-44 before Tharanga mopped up the tail.

Fleetwood v Lancaster

Fleetwood go top of Northern Cricket League Division One following a narrow 2 wicket win over Lancaster.

Lancaster were bowled out for 185 in 49.1 overs thanks to Alex Metcalfe top scoring with 46, and Rameez Raja 42.

Once again Ian Holland taking the bowling honours with figures of 5-64 supported by Adam Parker with 4-66.

Fleetwood knocked off the runs in 49.3 overs, closing on 187-8. David King setting the chase up with a top scoring 68. Adam Sharrocks took on the challenge with an unbeaten 39 along with Mat Clark unbeaten on 13 guiding his team home to victory.

Iain Burstow 4-67 and Ben Simm 4-84 lead the Lancaster fight to no avail.

Leyland v Kendal

Leyland take the Winning Draw with Kendal after the rain came in on the 24th over of Kendal's reply.

The hosts closed on 214-6 with Chris Parkinson 55 off 79 balls and Richardt Frenz 49 off 59 balls. Henry Thompson also contributing with 34 off 50 balls and Andrew Makinson unbeaten on 36 off 37 balls.

Saeed Bariwala returning figures of 2-56.

Kendal were on 101-4 off 24 before the rain arrived, Saeed Bariwala opened the innings and made 25 off 36 balls, Darren Nightingale with 37 off 24 balls and professional Eldred Hawken 23 were leading the Kendal chase when the rains came.

Leyland's Lancashire player Luis Reece had 2-33 off 11overs.

Morecambe v Penrith

Morecambe make light work of Penrith in an 8 wicket win The result puts Morecambe right in the chase at the top of Division One.

Penrith were skittled out for 119 in 46.2 overs with Nicky Burns top scoring with 22. Eddie Read with 5-66 and Suraj Randiv with figures of 4-30 doing the damage for Morecambe.

The hosts knocked the runs off in 28.4 overs closing on 123-2, Mark Woodhead setting up the victory with 45 and Suraj Randiv with an unbeaten 45 off 57 balls andRyan Pearson unbeaten on 28 off 51 balls sae their team home

Paul Hindmarch was Penrith's best bowler with figures of 2-25.

Preston v Chorley

Chorley swept aside Preston by 154 runs at West Cliff. Ian Dickinson and Brenton Mc Donald both posting centuries in Chorley's dominating total of 246-3 off 50 overs. Dickinson unbeaten on 111, whilst Mc Donald posted 100.

Preston were skittled out for 92 in 32.4 overs, Brenton Mc Donald ripping through the hosts with figures of 6-13.

The result brings Chorley back into a chance of the title.

Division 2 Round Up:

St Annes extend their lead at the top

Barrow v Darwen

Darwen won by 7 wickets at Barrow. Peter Deeks 38 top scoring as the hosts were bowled out for 92 in 38.4 overs, Greg Lawrenson 5-28, Andrew Cook with 3-3 the Darwen destroyers.

Darwen raced home in 26.3 overs with John Painter unbeaten on 56 as they reached their winning total of 95-3.

Chorley v Preston

Chorley won a close encounter with Preston by 1 wicket at Windsor Park.

Preston were all out for 141 in 44.1 overs, Yasin Patel with a patient 43 off 107 balls and Akmal Shah with 27 off 24 balls. Michael Mead was Chorley's best bowler with figures of 4-17.

The hosts edging home in 38.5 overs closing on 142-9, Ian Mawdesley 30 off 62 balls and Lewis Saunders unbeaten 11 seeing the hosts home.

Akmal Shah 3-16 and Yasin Patel with 3-44 lead the Preston valiant fight.

Kendal v Leyland

Leyland made light work of a depleted Kendal Second team with a 10 wicket win at Shap Road. Kendal were all out in just 28.2 overs for 56. Steven Pallett returning figures of 3-18 and Michael Birchall returning figures of 3-11.

The defending champions racing home in 11.3 overs, closing on 59-0. Hamza Kahn was unbeaten on 29 off 43 with Lloyd Tennant unbeaten on 19 off 35 balls.

Lancaster v Fleetwood

Fleetwood won by 8 runs at Lancaster, Declan Clerkin top scored with 68 as Fleetwood posted 194-9 off 45 overs. Ethan Markland returning figures of 4-30 and Philip Sparrow 3-34.

Liam Davies top scored with an unbeaten 54 and Danny Welbourne with 40 in Lancaster's reply. However figures of 5-20 by Declan Clerkin and 4-65 by Tom Clarke saw Fleetwood bowl Lancaster out for 186 in 44.1 overs.

Penrith v Morecambe

Penrith picked up a seven wicket win over Morecambe, as they chased down a big score to claim victory.

Morecambe closed on 216-6, Michael Fisher with an unbeaten 75, and Matthew Derham with 69. Ross Bryson and Jamie O'Brien had 2 wickets each.

An opening partnership of 124 set up a Penrith victory with Joe Stamper 102 and Mark Osborne 35 before Eddie Robson with an unbeaten 41 saw Penrith home on 219-3 in 42.3 overs.

St Annes v Blackpool

The rain swept in at Vernon Road as St Annes go clear the top after taking a winning draw with Blackpool.

St Annes made 189-8 off 45 overs. Thanks to Geeth Malinda 53 and Sajid Nalbandh 38. Paul Wilks with unbeaten on 36 late on saw St Annes to a respectable total.

Sam Owen was Blackpol's best bowler with figures of 3-20 from his 12 overs and Matthew Siddal had 2-46 from his 12.

Blackpool were 105 -4 when the rains came in the 31st over. They went out for 3 more overs and finished on 131-5 with Michael Penney top scoring with 47.

Kevin Reid had figures of 2-40.
