Morecambe remain clear at the top, in a full afternoon of action across the Northern Cricket League
DIVISION ONE:
Blackpool v Morecambe
Morecambe are still top of Northern Cricket League Division One after holding on for a losing draw at League Champions Blackpool.
The hosts went into the game without Namibian Professional Christi Viljoen after being banned by the League.
Kelly Smuts deputised and the South African all rounder was playing against his former Morecambe team mates being the professional at Woodhill lane last season.
Blackpool won the toss and batted but got off to a bad start as they lost opener Matthew Houston for 3 off 14 balls caught by Phillip Dennison off the bowling of Eddie Read.
With Morecambe getting the early breakthrough, Blackpool dug in thanks to a second wicket partnership of 60 between Tom Jefferson and South African professional Kelly Smuts.
Morecambe broke the partnership when Kelly Smuts fell for 41 off 42 balls after being caught by Geert Maartens giving Eddie Read his second wicket.
Blackpool now struggling on 67-2 were under pressure as they saw further wickets fall with Eddie Read getting his third bowling Richard Gleeson for 0.
A fourth wicket followed as Tom Jefferson went LBW for 41 falling to Suraj Randiv
Blackpool were struggling on 98-4, but got back into the contest thanks to a crucial fifth wicket stand of 48 between Stephen Twist and Andy Furniss.
The partnership looked solid as Blackpool got back on track, but in a tight contest, Morecambe managed to gain some initiative as Stephen Twist was run out by Josh Dixon for a steady 31 off 47 balls.
Joshua Boyne, Michael Penney and Ben Howarth all fell to Suraj Randiv. Eddie Read then cleaning the innings up as he took the wickets of Steven Mercer and Paul Danson, as Blackpool were all out for 177 in 47.5 overs,
Andy Furniss remained unbeaten on 35 off 60 balls with Eddie Read 5-59 and Suaj Randiv 4-72 taking the bowling honours
In reply Morecambe struggled as both Josh Dixon and Suraj Randiv went cheaply with Dixon going LBW to Kelly Smuts and Suraj Randiv caught by Paul Danson off the bowling of Richard Gleeson.
Morecambe then lost Lewis Smith for 15 as he was LBW to Kelly Smuts as the visitors were struggling on 44-3.
Josh Dixon's team managed to form a mini recovery largely thanks to a fourth wicket stand of 44 between Lewis Edge and Ryan Pearson. However the recovery was short lived as Edge fell for 25 to Steven Mercer.
Mercer then took the wickets of Philip Dennison and Ryan Pearson, before Kelly Smuts had Morecambe on the brink at 116-8, as Eddie Read and Andy Bird both fell to the South African.
Morecambe to their credit dug in thanks to Tommy Clough and Geert Maartens ninth wicket stand of 34.
Kelly Smuts broke the partnership with Maartens falling for 21, however Michael Fisher and Clough saw the league leaders to a losing draw as they closed on 150-9 off 52 overs. Kelly Smuts returning figures of 5-49.
Darwen v Penrith
Darwen recovered from their surprise setback to Netherfield as they defeated Penrith by 7 runs in a close contest at Birch Hall.
The hosts recovered from 111-9 , a crucial 41 runs by Niall Burke as well as the lower order batting of Neil Cordingley with 35 helped the hosts to the recovery withDarius Ainslie chipping in with 18 and the hosts were bowled out for 165.
Paul Hindmarch the Penrith professional returning figures of 5-42.
In reply Penrith fell just 7 runs short of victory despite Liam Trevaskis's knock of 73 and Alex Atkinsons crucial score of 26 runs.
Penrith were all out for 158 in 48.5 overs, David Bowden with figures of 4-38 and Neil and John Cordingley taking a brace of wickets.
Fleetwood v Chorley
Fleetwood recorded an emphatic eight wicket win over inform Chorley, the visitors closing on 185-9 off their 50 overs, Andrew Holdsworth with a skippers knock of 53 off 54 balls. Ian Holland and James Amor took 3 wickets each for Mat Clark's team. David King also taking a wicket.
In Fleetwood' s reply they knocked the runs off pretty emphatically, seeing the game home in 34.5 overs, closing on 190-2.
Adam Parker top scored with 81 and fellow opening batsman David King was unbeaten with 76 off 95 balls.
Will Moutlon took 2 wickets for the visitors.
Lancaster v Barrow
Barrow had to make do with a winning draw at Lancaster. Daryl Wearing's men closing on 193-9 off 50 overs thanks to Tharanga Paranivatana with 72 and Dean Williams and Daryl Wearing with 31 runs apiece.
Iain Perrieman, Liam Moffat, Ben Simm and Iain Burstow took two wickets apiece.
Lancaster were holding on at the close with 159-8. Jamie Heywood made 51 with support from Keiran Moffatt with 33.
The Sri Lankan professional Tharanga Paranivatana returned figures of 5-35.
Leyland v St Annes
Leyland take a winning draw with St Annes in a high scoring game. The hosts closing on an imposing 273-6 off 50 overs.
Tom Reece with his top score of the season made 75 off 109 balls, Richardt Frenz making 68 and Henry Thompson making 56 runs.
Matthew Grindley was the pick of the St Annes bowlers with figures of 4-68. Xander Pitchers taking 2-86.
St Annes closed on 185-8 off 50, Andy Kellett retiring not out on 6 due to injury, Adam Holt digging in for 65 off 74 balls, and Matthew Grindley was unbeaten on 30 off 44 balls.
The Leyland bowlers shared the wickets around, Will Jacques, Nathan McDonnell and Sam Oldham taking a brace of wickets, with Henry Thompson taking 1 wicket.
Preston v Netherfield
Netherfield blitz Preston by 10 wickets, Sajid Patel's team putting themselves in got off to a good start where they were 80-1.
However a bowling change which saw South African sub professional Ockert Erasmus come into the attack made a dramatic difference as Erasmus returned figures of 7-25, to totally destroy the Preston innings.
Nathan Chambers also weighing in with figures of 3-13. Preston all out for 107 in 40.3 overs, Sajid Patel the only batsman with a score as he made 71 of Prestons 107 runs.
The reply was quick as Netherfield raced home in just 15.1 overs, closing on 111-0, Richard Potter unbeaten on 75 and Ben Barrow unbeaten on 30
Netherfield climb up to seventh as Preston remain bottom of the table.

Netherfield and St Annes lead as Leyland fall to defeat
Barrow v Lancaster
Lancaster won the toss and invited Barrow to bat. In their 45 overs Barrow were 153 - 6 thanks to Tom Penny 72 and a late 29 from Joshua Allington. Tom Whitehouse took 3-32 in his allowed twelve overs
In reply Lancaster reached their winning total of 158-4 in 34 overs. Tom Whitehouse 82 not out and Danny Welbourne 34 laid the foundations for victory with Matthew Liver chipping in with 17 not out
Chorley v Fleetwood
Fleetwood come away from Chorley with a winning draw. Andy Singleton 70 off 103 balls and Declan Clerkin unbeaten on 58 off 66 balls helped Fleetwood recover from 63-3 with a crucial fourth wicket stand guiding Fleetwood to 221-4.

Chorley were holding on at the close on 162-9 thanks to Rod Gardner with 59 off 59 balls and Max Harper with 30 off 60 balls. Alex Ryder and Declan Clerkin with 3 wickets each were the most successful Fleetwood bowlers
Morecambe v Blackpool
Blackpool won by 9 wickets at Morecambe. Morecambe closing on 177-6 off 45 overs, Matthew Derham top scored with 64. Jamie Thomson and Declan Fisher with a brace of wickets.

Netherfield v Preston
Netherfield go back to the top of Northern Cricket League Division Two after an easy ten wicket win over Preston at Parkside Road.
Scott Clement's team having no trouble against a struggling Preston side. The visitors were put in by the hosts and were all out in just 25.4 overs for 83. Stuart Nixon returning figures of 5-42, Scott Clement weighing in with figures of 2-9. Dylan Hoyle Michael Curran and Joe Portman also taking a wicket each.
Preston captain Amer Abbas Kahn making the most runs with an unbeaten 28.
The reply was instant as Netherfield raced home in just 15.2 overs closing on 87-0. Brendan Herron unbeaten on 41 and debutant Matthew Atkinson unbeaten on 36.
Penrith v Darwen
10 man Darwen came away from Penrith with a remarkable win as they defeated the Tynefield Park outfit by 5 wickets.
Darwen who have now found some form put in a good displays despite the numerical disadvantage.
Penrith were restricted to 150-9, Jamie O'Brien unbeaten on 35 and Will Tyson with 33 for the hosts. Andrew Cook returning figures of 3-27 for the visitors, Reece Davies and Greg Lawrenson taking 2 wickets each, Sam Painter taking 1.
Darwen knocked the runs off in 34 overs with Mark Emery 56 and John Painter 35 the visitors closing on 151-5.
St Annes v Leyland
St Annes knocked Leyland off the top of Division Two after winning by 5 wickets at Vernon Road. Leyland closed their innings on 175-8 off 45 overs. Dale Vardy with 60, Lloyd Tennant with 40.
Thomas Bradley had the best bowling figures for St Annes with 3-46.
St Annes reply with 177-5 in 44.2 overs, Geeth Malinda setting the win up with 87,Luke Wilks contributing with 32. David Bartholomew and Paul Wilks saw the hosts home, as both close unbeaten on 21.
