The Leyland and St Annes teams hold a minute's silence for David Smalley

Blackpool close in on top spot as Leyland drop points, whilst Lancaster whitewash Kendal in an action packed afternoon of action in The Northern Cricket League

DIVISION ONE:

Blackpool v Penrith:

Paul Danson's Blackpool move up to 2nd and just 7 points behind Leyland following a comfortable 7 wicket win over Penrith.

Blackpool winning the toss opted to put Penrith in as they were bowled out for 88 in 40 overs. Namibian Professional Christi Viljeon ripping through the visitors batting with figures of 5-24.

Richard Gleeson and Stephen Mercer taking 2 wickets apiece, with Ben Eckton taking 1. Karanjit Bansal offered the main resistance for Penrith as he top scored with 34 off 58 balls.

In reply Blackpool knocked the runs off in 28.4 overs, Richard Gleeson with 31 and Christi Viljeon with 24 laying the platform. Before Paul Danson (10) and Andy Furniss (19), saw the hosts over the line as they closed on 92-3.

Penrith's Greg Hall took 2 wickets with Paul Hindmarch taking the other in an otherwise bad afternoon for the team from Cumbria.

Darwen v Netherfield:

In form Darwen suffered a surprise 7 wicket home setback to Netherfield at Birch Hall.

Darwen on paper went into the game in good form despite losing to Leyland last weekend, whilst Netherfield had been very inconsistent, up until the Chorley win last Saturday.

The hosts batting first were bowled out for 173, Sri Lankan Professional Saliya Saman (3-37) and Brad Earl (3-36), both taking 3 wickets each. Nathan Chambers also impressed with figures of 2-43, whilst Mark Clarkson returned figures of 1-47.

Ammer Mirza batted well for a top scoring 55, whilst South African Professional and stand in Skipper for the afternoon George Linde made 30, with John Cordingley making 38.

In reply, despite Netherfield losing Ben Barrow for 1, the visitors raced home in 41.2 overs, Marc Brown with a Captains knock, as he top scored with an unbeaten 90.Whilst Ben Phillips (45) and John Huck (33), also contributed with the visitors closing on 176-3.

Fleetwood v Chorley:

Fleetwood got the better of Chorley by 67 runs in a low scoring contest at Broadwater. Sub Professional Daryn Smit was the star of the show as he returned figures of 7-23 leading Fleetwood to victory.

The hosts batting first struggled as they were bowled out for 128. Adam Parker top scoring with 33 and Daryn Smit with 31.

Gaurav Dhar in good form as he returned figures of 5-37, whilst Rex Purnell returned figures of 3-41.

In reply Chorley were skittled out for 61 in 32.5 overs, Daryn Smit the match winner with 7-23.

Lancaster v Kendal:

Lancaster put in their best performance of the season as they demolished Kendal by 10 wickets at Lune Road.

Kendal batting first closed on 175-9, Darren Moore batting through for an unbeaten 73, as both Jamie How and Terry Hunte fell cheaply.

Iain Burstow returning figures of 5-45, and Michael Barry 3-24.

Lancaster replied in emphatic style as they raced to 176-0 in 36.4 overs. Former Kendal player Jamie Heywood top scoring with an unbeaten 86 off 109 balls and Michael Barry 84 off 111 the match winners.

Morecambe v Preston:

Morecambe picked up a much needed victory, after defeating Preston by 4 wickets at Woodhill Lane.

Preston opting to bat were restricted to 168-9, Soyeb Dukanwala the top scorer with 68. Yasin Patel contributing with 43.

Morecambe Skipper Tommy Clough returning figures of 4-68 off 25 overs, with Kelly Smuts taking 3-58.

The hosts easing to victory in 36 overs, Kelly Smuts with 70, and despite Saeed Bariwala returning figures of 3-31, Morecambe closed on 172-6.

St Annes v Leyland:

The game of the afternoon lived up to expectations as St Annes got a winning draw with League leaders Leyland in an exciting contest at Vernon Road.

St Annes batting first put an imposing score closing on 236-5. Toby Bulcock hitting an unbeaten 103 off 113 balls, whilst Nathan Bolus made a contribution of 41 runs.

In reply Leyland fell just short, closing on 227-8, Henry Thompson with 65 off 119 balls, Alex Ross with 59 off 56 balls and Andrew Makinson scoring 52 off 52 balls.

Toby Bulcock took 3-53, whilst Lukman Vahaluwala and Michael Harling claimed 2 wickets a piece.

Netherfield remain on top with another win ,whilst Leyland close in.

Chorley v Fleetwood:

Fleetwood batted first and made 230-9 at the close of their innings Zack Coultas 53 and Nick Wall 47 their main run makers

Chorley in reply scored the winning runs on the last ball of the game and finished on 231-8 thanks to Alexander Howarth 58, Kieran McCullagh53 and Jack Bentham 51

Kendal v Lancaster:

Kendal stay in good form following a six wicket win over Lancaster at Shap Road. Lancaster closing on 186-8, Keiran Moffat unbeaten on 72, whilst Jordan Sparks also batted well for an unbeaten 59.

Marcus Hill returning figures of 3-46, with Darren Nightingale (2-29) and Andrew Dugdale (1-51), also taking wickets.

In reply Kendal achieved their victory in 42 overs, as they finished on 187-4, Paul Dodds 72, Richard Herron 41, and Shane Hyland 36.

Leyland v St Annes:

A Will Jacques hat trick lit up The Stanning Memorial Ground as Leyland defeated St Annes by 5 wickets.

St Annes batted first as they were bowled out for 116, Will Jacques taking 6-42, including the hat trick.

Leyland's Sam Oldham top scoring with an unbeaten 43 as Ian Farringtons team eased home in 35 overs closing on 118-5.

Morecambe v Preston:

Morecambe batted first and made 200 - 7 in their 45 overs. In reply Preston were bowled out in the 43 over for 130

Netherfield v Darwen:

League Leaders Netherfield remain on top after a comfortable 7 wicket win over Darwen. Netherfield never in any real trouble, as Darwen batting first were bowled out for 108.

Stuart Nixon returning figures of 4-31, with Ryan Wilson taking 3-25.

In reply Netherfield raced to victory in 26 overs, Scott Clement opening with 28, and Liam Dugdale with 23. before Matthew Goodall hit an unbeaten 43, including a big six at the end seeing Netherfield to victory. Netherfield closing on 113-3.

Penrith v Blackpool:

Penrith got a winning draw with Blackpool. Penrith closing on 193-9. Kiron Trevaskis top scoring with 75. Ash Moreau returning figures of 3-49 for the visitors.

Blackpool replied with 183-7, Adrian Darlington with 57. Martyn Crouch returning figures of 3-42 for the hosts.
