It turned out to be a very good afternoon at the top for both Barrow and Lancaster, they both had huge wins, as the battle for league honours takes another twist, in what was an afternoon of drama in The Northern Cricket League.

DIVISION ONE

BARROW V LEYLAND

Australian Professional Jonathan Wells put Barrow in pole position at the top of Division One after taking a stunning 9-48 as they defeated second placed Leyland by 40 runs at Ernest Pass.

This was undoubtedly the game of the afternoon, where a result for either side would put them in a strong position for league honours.

Barow batted first and made a low total of 135, Chris D'Leny returning from injury lead the way with 40 off 58 balls. Ryan Brown also batted well for his 39 off 76 balls.

Luis Reece with 4-31 and David Makinson 3-22 did the damage for Leyland

Jonathan Well's bowled a devastating for his 9-48 and Leyland's Adam Coates offered the main resistance scoring with 33 off 65 balls in what was an otherwise poor reply by the visitors. Greg Reynolds took the other wicket that of David Makinson

FLEETWOOD V LANCASTER

Lancaster's good run of form continues after they defeated League Champions Fleetwood by 5 wickets at Broadwater. Ben Simm's team continue to surprise many as they keep themselves in the hunt for the Division One Crown.

Fleetwood decided to bat first and made 165-9 in their 50 overs, Naveed Yousaf 54 off 85 balls, Adam Parker 48 off 77 balls and Joe Bell 34 off 55 balls the main run makers. The bowling honours belong to Ben Simm with 5-62 and Jannisar Kahn 3-19 for the visitiors.

In reply Lancaster knocked the runs off in 42.5 overs, Charlie Swarbrick setting the reply off with 34 off 53 balls. Jannisar Kahn's unbeaten 66 off 75 balls winning Lancaster the match, whilst Samuel Moorby's unbeaten 18 off 21 balls and Keiran Moffat's 15 off 27 balls was also crucial.

Ian Holland 2-63,Sam Bell 2-55 and Keiran McGann 1-19 were the main bowlers for the hosts.

PRESTON V CHORLEY

Chorley picked up a comfortable 8 wicket win at bottom side Preston. Will Moulton taking 7-25 as Preston were all out for 86 in 33 overs. Sajid Patel top scoring with 41.

Chorley racing home in 25.1 overs reaching 89-2 with Ian Dickinson unbeaten on 32.

KENDAL V DARWEN

A violent thunderstorm with 10 overs remaining of the second innings brought the Kendal v Darwen game to an abrupt end as Darwen go away with a winning draw. The thunderstorm coming as a surprise after the afternoon started out sunny and clear

Darwen batting first were all out for 192 in 49.5 overs. Openers Jordan Clarke 16 off 44 balls, and Ammer Mirza 48 off 67 balls batted well and were folowed by their professional Alan Kruger who top scored with 63 off 72 balls.

The hosts were on 145-5 of 40 when the thunderstorm ended the game, Terry Hunte made 42 off 50 balls, Jack White 32 off 72 balls, and Darren Moore with 22 off 41 balls with John Cordingley taking 4-52 for Darwen

ST ANNES V MORECAMBE

Morecambe's resurgent form continues following a 2 wicket win at St Annes.

St Annes were all out for 129 in 46.2 overs. Nanthesh Kiruparan with an unbeaten 45 off 74 balls and Toby Bulcock with 40 off 69 balls the main run makers for the hosts, Tommy Clough taking 5-49 in 21 overs and Jake Smith 4-30 doing the damage for Morecambe

Mark Woodhead's patient 44 off 84 helping Morecambe to the win with Tommy Clough's 24 off 25 balls also crucial with Morecambe reaching their target of 130-8 in 38.5 overs.

Matthew Grindley 5-39 and Lukman Vahaluwala taking 2-40 fought hard to bring success for the home team

BLACKPOOL V NETHERFIELD

Netherfield take the winning draw at Blackpool, the visitors closing on 178-7 off their 50 overs, Marc Brown remaining unbeaten throughout the innings with 86 off 139 balls. Colin Ackermann also contributing with 29 off 56 balls. Danny Gilbert taking 3-52 for the hosts.

Blackpool were holding on in reply as they closed on 153-9, Gurmandeep Bains 38 off 63 ,Paul Danson 27 off 60 balls and Andy Furniss 29 off 85 balls. Brad Earl taking 3-27 had the best bowling figures for the visitors.

Division Two (2nd XI)

Division 2 Round Up:

It's all change at the top of Division Two as Morecambe and Leyland go joint top of the Division.

MORECAMBE V ST ANNES

Morecambe go top of Division Two after a 2 wicket win over St Annes at Woodhill Lane.

St Annes were bowled out for 97 in 29.1 overs with Charles Boucher their top scorer with 47 off 60 balls. The bowling of Gareth Pedder 4-19 and Ayush Sharma with 4-41 resulted in the visitors small total

St Annes made Morecambe fight all the way and they squeezed home in 35 overs reach their winning total of 98-8, Matthew Derham with 22 off 51 balls. Kallum Ahmed scoring 18 off 47 balls, Ben Hornby 12 off 31 balls, and Gulam Maje ended unbeaten on 9 off 9 balls.

LEYLAND V BARROW

Defending Champions Leyland join Morecambe at the top of the Division following a 9 wicket win over Barrow.

Barrow struggled to 97-9 in their 45 overs, Glen Kermode with 23 and Ian Allington with 21 the main contibutors for the visitors. Sam Oldham took 3-15 for Leyland

Emma Lamb making a stunning impact during the Leyland innings making an unbeaten 48 as Leyland raced home to their wiining taget of 100 - 1 in 27.1 overs.

DARWEN V KENDAL

Darwen defeated Kendal by 4 wickets at Birch Hall. Kendal were all out for 110 in 40.5 overs Kendal's Darren Nightingale 38, and Shane Hyland 30 with the main runs. Mutib Ali taking 4-25 for Darwen

In reply Darwen reached 112-6 in 27.4, Andrew Brown 29, Zac Whalley 27 and Lee Thompson 22 the batsmen to see them home Andrew Dugdale 3-31 and Joseph Dodds with 3-33 the best bowlers for the visitors

LANCASTER V FLEETWOOD

Lancaster defeated Fleetwood by 6 wickets at Lune Road. Fleetwood were all out for 128 in 35 overs. Tom Wilson with 59 top scored for the visitors

Matthew Liver with 5-35 and Billy Swarbrick 4-25 doing the damage for Lancaster.

In reply Billy Swarbrick was Lancaster's main run maker with 77 as they reached 129-4, knocking the runs off in 28.1 overs.

CHORLEY V PRESTON

Chorley ended with a winning draw against Preston, Michael Critchley with 59 off 108 balls and Keiran McCullagh with 42 off 37 balls helped Chorley to 172-5 off 45 overs.

In reply Preston were restricted to 153-9. Zakariyya Patel being unbeaten on 54 off 109 balls.

NETHERFIELD V BLACKPOOL

A youthful Blackpool team defeated Netherfield by 19 runs at Parkside Road. Netherfield restricted Blackpool to 139-8, Sam Owen with 34 off 94 balls for the visitors. Stuart Nixon taking 3-30 and Blake Wilson with 3-40 wer Netherfield's best bowlers

In reply Netherfield struggled until Steven Wilson hit a top scoring 73 off 52 balls to give the 2nds a chance of victory. However once Wilson was out Netherfield fell in 43.4 over's as Marcus Hills attempted strike was caught near the boundary by Nick Wall and Netherfield were all out for 120.
