The Northern Cricket League Review 5th May 2012

By Richard Edmondson

Round 4

Fleetwood stay top as Barrow, Netherfield and Morecambe close in!

Division 1 Action

Another round of action in The Northern Cricket League, brought up more centuries, with John Huck hitting an unbeaten 120 in Netherfields home win over Carnforth and Leylands Henry Thompson hitting 101 in the draw with Fleetwood.

The centuries were the start of a lot of fantastic action throughout the whole league, in another fruitful day for Fleetwood, Barrow, Netherfield and Morecambe!

Heres my review of all the weekends league action throughout division 1 and division 2

Netherfield v Carnforth:

Netherfield are just 2 points behind league leaders Fleetwood after another emphatic performance in their 167 run victory over Carnforth at Parkside Road.

The hosts were put in and started slowly as Ben Haddrick fell for 0 after being bowled by Adam Cowperthwaite, Carnforth then had Netherfield down at 24-2 after Professional Cobus Pienaar was caught by Toby Bulcock off Lewis Bradley's delivery.

However a 3rd wicket partnership of 66 between Marc Brown (61-100 balls), and Chris Williams (32-37 balls), steadied the ship as Netherfield took control of the game.

Once Carnforth professional Toby Bulcock bowled Chris Williams, Netherfield stayed in control with a 4th wicket partnership of 70 between Marc Brown and John Huck.

Despite Marc Brown going for a useful 61, both John Huck and John Mason saw the innings out with Huck reaching his century as Netherfield posted a score of 272-4 off 50.

In reply, Netherfield got off to the perfect start as Ryan Nelson went for 0 following a catch from John Huck from the bowling of Cobus Pienaar.

However Carnforth started to frustrate the hosts with both Jordan Relph (39) and Darren Moore (21) offering some resistance.

John Mason swung the game back in the hosts favour as he bowled Darren Moore for 21. From that point on Chris Williams came in to take 6-23 as Carnforth were bowled out for 105 in just 30.5 overs.

Leyland v Fleetwood:

Leylands Henry Thompson hit a 2nd innings knock of 101 in the losing draw with league leaders Fleetwood, Thompson's knock came from 151 balls, as Leyland held on reaching 155-5,

Earlier Fleetwood posted an impressive score of 265-6, with professional Shaun Liebisch top scoring with 56 off 54 balls . Naveed Yousef (55-69) and Adam Parker (49-62) also contributed.

In reply Darwen were all out for 148 off 48 overs with Daryl Wearing taking 5-32, Chorley's top scorer was professional Shaun De Kock putting in an all round performance as he ended unbeaten on 68 off 110 balls.
