Fleetwood move back to the top

DIVISION 1 ROUND UP:

Fleetwood move back to the top of Division One after winning the battle of the top two, in a rain affected afternoon of Northern Cricket League action:

Fleetwood v Barrow

Fleetwood defeated Barrow by 3 wickets to go 3 points clear at the top of Division 1 in the battle of the top two at Broadwater.

The hosts went into the game on the back of their TWP Wealth Twenty/20 finals day success the previous weekend, and faced league leaders Barrow who had come off a good win over St Annes last week.

Mat Clark's team won the crucial toss, and opted to but Barrow in on what was a dry start to the afternoon.

Good bowling and fielding was on display by the hosts, restricting the league leaders to a score of 121-8. The rain did come in disrupt the game, between 2-22 and 3.38 pm, as the match went from a 50 over aside contest to a 39 overs game.

The key bowler for Fleetwood was Sam Bell who returned figures of 5-40, their were also 2 wickets for Adam Parker.



Barrow Pro Vaughn Van Jaarsveld

Barrows main response came through Greg Reynolds (32) and Daryl Wearing, (32 off 22 balls)

The batting of Reynolds and Wearing helped the visitors to the score after struggling at one stage on 98-8

With a good total to chase, Fleetwood were made to work hard for their win, with Daryl Wearing taking 4-24.

However crucial runs throughout the team, with Dean Bell (25), Shaun Liebisch (23) and Adam Sharrocks (26), helped the hosts stay on track.

Eventually Fleetwood reached 122-7 in 33.2 overs, with Chris Stanhope and Mat Clark seeing the hosts home to what is a huge win in the context of the season

Carnforth v Leyland

Leyland move up to third in the table after defeating a spirited Carnforth side by 5 wickets at Lodge Quarry.

With the visitors title aspirations suffering setback over the past few weeks, getting back on track was the key for David Makinson's team.

Carnforth opted to put themselves in after winning the toss, and made 173-8, in another rain affected game. The rain coming into play twice, with the game finally reduced to 47 over's aside.

The main runs coming from Ryan Nelson who hit 39 off 90 balls,Adam Coweperthwaite also contributing with an unbeaten 27 off 39.

Leyland's main bowler was Andrew Makinson with figures of 3-29, David Fisher (1-21), Brett Pelser (1-30), Dale Jones (1-15) and Luis Reece (1-63) also contributing

The visitors were struggling in their reply on 48-4, with Darren Nelson doing the damage with figures of 3-75.

However Danny Lamb steadied the nerves hitting a crucial 65 off 105 balls, before falling to Toby Bulcock.

Andrew Makinson batting at number 6 top scored with an unbeaten knock of 66 with both Makinson and Lamb forming a commanding partnership as Leyland saw the game home in 42.2 overs reaching 175-8.

Lancaster v Netherfield

Netherfield came away from Lune Road with a winning draw in a rain affected encounter with Lancaster. For Netherfield it was all about putting an end to their bad run of form and trying to regain some momentum

Lancaster put Netherfield in with the visitors reaching 166-4, in a rain reduced encounter, a first wicket partnership of 102 between Marc Brown (44 off 74) and Chris Williams (55 off 91) got them to 102.

The rain and thunder came into play disrupting the innings, when they came back out Cobus Pienaar finished unbeaten on 36 with Lancaster Professional Timycen Maruma taking 3-41.

In the reply Lancaster reached 154-7, Timycen Maruma hitting an unbeaten 73 off 92 balls. However wickets from Cobus Pienaar (2-32), Marc Hadwin (2-39) and Chris Williams (2-41), gave the visitors a sniff of victory.

But with the lost overs, Lancaster got a losing draw, but for Netherfield an improved performance which they can build on for the rest of the season.

Darwen v Morecambe

Morecambe defeated Darwen by 59 runs at Birch Hall, Lewis Edge's team posting a competitive score of 150-9, Umar Amin with an unbeaten 66 off 80 balls. Niall Burke the best bowler with figures of 3-34.

In reply Darwen all out for 91 in 34.2 overs, Umar Amin 5-35 and Richard Cupit 5-27, ripping through the hosts line up.

Blackpool v Chorley

A rain affected game at Stanley Park, the first innings reduced to 45 overs, with the second innings reduced to 39 overs.

Blackpool taking a winning draw, Professional Dale Deeb hitting a top score of 52 off 88, as the hosts made 135-8

Chris Harty taking 4-55, with Billy Smith (2-45) and Keiran McCullagh (1-25), also contributing.

Chorley making 89-4 in reply off 39 overs, but with the lost overs a draw was always going to be the likely outcome. Chorley's Stuart Naden (25 off 78) and Iain Critchley (25 off 68 balls) the main contributers,

St Annes v Preston

St Annes defeated Preston by 4 wickets at Vernon Road, Preston all out in 39.2 overs for 101, Dinuka Hettiarachchi taking 6-33, with Peter Cummings taking 3-47

Lukman Vahaluwala top scoring with 45 off 72.

In reply St Annes reached 102-6 in 31.4 overs, Atiq Uz Zaman top scoring with 33. Lukman Vahaluwala taking 5-47

Duncan Whalley unbeaten on 15 and Kushan Mirando unbeaten on 19 seeing the game home.

Division Two (2nd XI)

Division 2 Round Up:

Leyland v Carnforth

Leyland stay top of Division 2 after a comprehensive 110 home victory over Carnforth, The game was reduced to 42 overs aside due to the rain.

The hosts batting first declared on 184-6, Nathan McDonnell top scoring with 62, Ian Dickinson (43) and Jake Peake unbeaten on 42 also in the runs.

In reply Carnforth were bowled out in 40 overs for 70, Will Jacques (4-9),Steven Pallett (3-4) the main wicket takers. Chris Kelly (2-30) and Nathan McDonnell (1-6) also taking crucial wickets.

Barrow v Fleetwood

Barrow stay second and keep up the pressure on Leyland after a 26 run victory over Fleetwood in a low scoring encounter at Ernest Pass.

The hosts seemingly without a chance after being bowled out for 68 in 37.3 overs. Anthony Ellison doing the damage with 6-37.

However Barrow staged a miraculous comeback bowling Fleetwood out for 42 in just 22.2 overs.

Lee Hogg taking 5-20, whilst George Smith claimed 3-9 and Patrick Allington returning with figures of 2-9.

Netherfield v Lancaster

Bottom side Lancaster pulled off a shock 47 run victory over Netherfield at Parkside Road.

Lancaster captained by Danny Welbourne put in a fantastic performance, to defeat a Netherfield 2nd team that has done well this season.

Netherfield lost the toss as Lancaster opted to bat, as Danny Welbourne returning to his former club hit a top scoring 97 off 129.

Welbourne falling just short of his century, after seeing his effort caught by Brendon Herron off the bowling of Marcus Hill.

Marcus Hill was the main wicket taker with figures of 3-52, as Lancaster closed the innings on 191-6.

Their was a rain delay at tea with 8 overs lost, with the second innings reduced to 42 overs

Netherfield's reply started relatively well with Nathan Dixon hitting 18 runs,

However the wickets soon fell with Netherfield in trouble.

Steven Wilson fought back with a top scoring 49 off 62 balls for the hosts, however once Wilson was out, Netherfield tried to bat out for a draw, until Steven Armstrong bowled Chesney Walling with Netherfield all out for 144 in 36.1 overs.

Lancaster's key bowler was Tom Williamson with figures of 3-36, Steven Armstrong, Tom Burrow and Callum East taking 2 wickets each, with Phillip Sparrow taking 1

Chorley v Blackpool

Blackpool picked up a winning draw at Chorley in yet another rain affected game. The overs reduced to 45 after various delays

The visitors set Chorley a target of 187-7, Benjamin Heath with a captain's knock of 59 off 81, with Ash Moreau hitting 41 off 54 balls.

Michael Mead taking 6-71 for the hosts.

In reply Chorley made 111-6, David Edwards top scoring with 30, Blackpool's Ross Parker with 3-29.

Morecambe v Darwen

Morecambe defeated Darwen by 14 runs at Woodhill Lane, the hosts 128-6 off 46.2 overs in a rain affected game.

Sam Cockburn with 41, Zac Whalley for the visitors taking 3-28

In reply Darwen reached 114-9 off 42.2 overs with the rain knocking some more overs off. Tommy Clough with 6-22, whilst Darwen's Scott Jackson top scored with 28

St Annes v Preston

St Annes cruise to a 9 wicket win over Preston, the visitors all out for 47, David Bartholomew with 5-6.
