DIVISION 1 ROUND UP:
Another interesting afternoon at the top and bottom of The Northern League as the race for the title heats up, here's my weekly review of all the latest league action:
Barrow v Leyland:
Leyland close in on the top 2 after defeating League Leaders Barrow by 2 wickets at Ernest Pass. The defeat means that Barrow's advantage at the top has been cut down to eight points, following on from Fleetwood's win over Chorley
The visitors opted to put Barrow in, and despite a top scoring 76 by opener Ryan Brown who batted throughout, a stunning return of 6-52 by Professional Brett Pelser ripped through the batting line up as Barrow were all out for 139 in 47 overs.
A fantastic performance by Pelser against an inform team, with Liam Livingstone the second top scorer with 23.
Luis Reece also bowled with figures of 2-37, with David Makinston taking 1-47
In the visitors reply, Barrow made Leyland work hard for their win, as Daryl Wearing returned with figures of 4-45. Liam Livingstones 3-29, made it a very nervous innings for David Makinson's team.
However Luis Reece's top scoring 56 set the platform, with David Fisher finishing the job off with an unbeaten 27 as Leyland got over the line reaching 142-8.
Fleetwood v Chorley:
Fleetwood close the gap on Barrow to 8 points after beating Chorley by 13 run's at Broadwater.
Batting first Fleetwood did well to make 118, after being in trouble at 61-8, the lower order batting of Mat Clark (37) and Lee Jones (unbeaten on 29) to thank for getting past 100
Chorley's Billy Smith was in inspired form taking 6-24 as Fleetwood were struggling, in a game which lost an over due to rain
In reply Gaurav Dhars 45 was the only notable score as 5-32 by Sam Bell and 4-42 by Professional Shaun Leibisch helped Fleetwood to victory as Chorley were all out for 105 in 41.3 overs.
St Annes v Netherfield:
Netherfield had to make do with a winning draw in their away clash at League holder's St Anne's a frustrating result especially with Barrow dropping points at the top.
John Mason's team made a fantastic score of 238-6, a great effort after struggling at 43-3 with the top 3 going for low scores
Netherfields recovery was led by John Huck's unbeaten 79 off 79 balls, as well as John Mason 46 off 62 balls. Ben Haddrick (33 off 42 balls) and Chris Parry (31 off 24 balls) also made major contributions in posting the big score
St Annes Professional Dinuka Hettiarachchi the main wicket taker with figures of 4-83.
In reply St Annes reached 167 for 8 off 45 overs, Atiq Uz Zaman top scoring with 84 off 88 balls.
Cobus Pienaar was the top wicket taker with 4-38, whilst Nathan Chambers (2-10), as well as Chris Williams (1-39) and Stuart Nixon(1-28) all contributed only to be left frustrated as Netherfield go 4th in the table
Kendal v Carnforth:
Kendal keep up the pressure on the top 3 after a 26 run victory over Carnforth in an exciting game at Shap Road.
After being put in Kendal declared on 175-5 off 47 overs, in a rain reduced innings which lost 3 overs.
Jamie How top scoring with 62 off 90, Terry Hunte was also going well on 37 off 48 before falling to a sensational one handed catch on the boundary by Brad Hoyle.
In the reply Carnforth started well and looked favourites early on in the innings, with Adam Cowperthwaite making an impressive 34 off 29 balls. However a flurry of wickets pushed the game back in Kendal's favour, until Carnforth fought back with Darren Nelson and Brad Hoyle putting on an 8th wicket stand of 39.
However Kendal fought back to bowl the visitors out for 149, Chris Miller (3-34) and Jack White (3-46)
