Netherfield 1st XI 2012

The opening day of The Northern Cricket League season, got off to a flier, with many highlights and some surprising outcomes.

Carnforth v Kendal:

One of the many was Jamie How's unbeaten 160 for Kendal in their 167 run win over Carnforth at Lodge Quarry.

How who returns as professional for a 2nd season hit 160 in just 124 balls, The New Zealand Test star struck up a crucial 6 wicket partnership of 125 with recent signing Graham Baker who hit 57 in 64 balls.

The performance of How and the crucial partnership with Baker helped Kendal to 264-7 off 50 over's.

For Carnforth their new professional Toby Bullcock impressed taking 5-104, on debut, and looks a good signing for the club.

In reply to the 264 Carnforth were bowled out for 97 with Kendal skipper Chris Miller taking 5-25 since his return from wintering in New Zealand.

Darwen v Lancaster:

Their was also a century for Darwens Alex Davies in their winning draw with at Birch Hall,

Davies hit an impressive 118 off 136, and formed a partnership of 134 with Andrea Agathangelou who impressed making 78 off 87 balls as Darwen made 254-7.

In reply Lancaster held out making 146-7 with MZ Kahn top scoring with 69, whilst Darwens Andrea Agathangelou picked 4 wickets for 43.

Leyland vs Barrow:

At The Stanning Memorial Ground Leyland picked up 15 points in an exciting encounter with Barrow.

Batting first Leyland made 164-9 with Professional Brett Pelser hitting a crucial 91 off 82 balls, a knock which helped recover from a bad start as they made 166-9.

Barrow's Gary Collins was in impressive form taking 6-38, with Sub Professional Adnan Rasool taking 3-103.

The second innings was all about the bowling performances of Henry Thompson (5-35) and David Makinson (4-59) as they bowled Barrow out for 157 in an exciting finish.

Barrow's Ryan Brown put the visitors in with a chance of victory hitting 68 off 92 balls, before Thompson and Makinson struck!

Chorley v Fleetwood:

Their was a surprise at Windsor Park as Fleetwood picked up a 7 wicket win over Chorley. Adam Parker was the talking point for the afternoon as he took 9 wickets for just 14 runs.

It was an impressive performance by the player who helped bowl the home team out for 58!.

The reply was emphatic as the 22 by James Ellis and 23 by Adam Parker helped the hosts to victory reaching 63-3.

Netherfield v St Annes

Defending Champions St Anne's began their defence of the league in a losing draw at Netherfield.

Netherfield captained by John Mason, welcomed new professional Cobus Pienaar to the side, as he made 48 in the 1st innings.

Marc Brown also impressed top scoring with 66, whilst Chris Williams made 36, as Netherfield ended on 251-7.

St Anne's who had Himesh Silva as sub professional for the afternoon, made an instant impact as he took 4-86.

With a big total to chase St Anne's started well with Atiq Uq Zaman top scoring with 73, however once Netherfield got into their tail, St Anne's held on reaching 164-7.

Preston v Morecambe:

At West Cliff Preston picked up a 15 point win over Morecambe, in what was a low scoring encounter.

The hosts were put into bat and were bowled out for 94 with Gareth Pedder taking 6-45. S Nalaband top scored for the hosts scoring 50.

In reply Morecambe were all out for 51 J Baladiwala taking 5 wickets to help Lukman Vahaluwalas team to victory.

Blackpool v Lancashire Colts

On Sunday The Lancashire Colts picked up a winning draw in an exciting game .

The Colts opted to bat and made 183-5 off 50, with Henry Thompson scoring with 69 off 126 balls.

Fayez Ugradher also impressed with 44 runs off 75 balls, with Blackpools new professional Dale Deeb taking 2-66 and Richard Gleeson taking 2 -62.

In reply made 181-8, with skipper Paul Danson hitting an unbeaten 65 off 64 balls.

Division Two (2nd XI)

Barrow v Leyland:

Defending League champions Leyland suffered a surprise defeat losing by 2 wickets at Barrow.

Leyland were put into bat and were bowled out for 94, with 3 wickets each from George Smith and Patrick Allington.

In reply Barrow got over the line reaching 95-8 with Lee Hoggs unbeaten 29 helping the hosts reach the target.

Fleetwood v Chorley:

Their were 6 wickets for Anthony Ellison in Fleetwood's 54 run win at Chorley, Fleetwoods's Andrew Singleton top scored with 60 in the 1st innings as the home side reached 168-9.

Chorley's Ian Oakes struck with 4-26

In the visitors reply Chorley were all out for 114, with Ellison's 6 wicket haul helping Fleetwood to victory.

Kendal v Carnforth:

At Shap Road Kendal's 2nds cruised to an 80 run victory over Carnforth with Mark Phillips taking 7-23 in the 2nd innings to dismiss the visitors for 51,

Kendal earlier posted a 1st innings of 131 with Andrew Dugdale top scoring on 39.

St Annes vs Netherfield:

At Vernon Road St Anne's 2nds picked up a 44 run victory over Netherfield's 2nds, 52 by Andrew Jarvis and 42 by Greg Whitehead helping the hosts to 189-7 off 48 over's.

In reply Netherfield were bowled out for 145 in 41 over's, with David Bartholomew taking 5 wickets.

Matt Goodall impressed for Netherfield scoring 42, with Steven Wilson also contributing with 37.

Morecambe vs Preston:

At Woodhill Lane Gert Maartens took 6-19 in Morecambes 8 wicket win over Preston 's 2nds.bowling the visitors out in the 1st innings for 62.

Morecambe easily reached their target in 19.2 over's making 63!

And finally Darwens 2nds eased a comfortable 118 run victory over at Lancaster
