The early season top of the table clash in the Furness Building Society Northern Premier League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls) was ruined by rain on a day when the weather intervened to some effect.
2009 champions St Annes overtook 2008 champions Netherfield at the top last Saturday after they defeated Barrow in a runs chase while Netherfield went down to defeat at Morecambe. The top two clashed at Parkside Road with Netherfield still awaiting the arrival of their professional, Brady Barends.
St Annes are still without captain Andy Kellett due to a back injury with Duncan Whalley combining the wicketkeeping duties with those of captaincy.
Netherfield's latest sub-pro was Pakistan cricketer Waqas Satti who fell to St Annes pro Dinuka Hettiarachchi for a first ball duck. Netherfield reached 130/7 after 44.1 overs when the rain came and the match was abandoned. Cumberland County batsman Marc Brown made 44 off 112 balls opening the innings and John Mason hit 39 off 51 balls with Hettiarachchi returning 3/52 from 22 overs.
Blackpool's South African professional Con de Lange has recovered from back surgery and debuted when Darwen visit Stanley Park. Darwen remain unbeaten but again were unable to drive home the advantage when they were on top.
In a match reduced to 40 overs Blackpool reached 167/7 with opener Alex Smith continuing his impressive form by making 73 before he was run out, and Stephen Twist 34. 16-year-old Alex Davies led Darwen's charge and the Lancashire Second XI wicketkeeper/batsman was undefeated on 82 off 111 balls (12 fours) when rain washed the game out with the visitors 137/2 off 35 overs, Chris Clarke unbeaten on 46 off 71 balls./p>
Chorley were frustrated by the weather after seemingly working their way into a winning position against Kendal at Windsor Park. They restricted the visitors to 171/9 with Terry Hunte making 58 off 78 balls with five fours and three sixes and opener Jon Miles 32. Chorley pro Gaurav Dhar took 5/71 off 18 overs and Kieran McCullagh 3/20 including the prize wicket of Kiwi international Jamie How, caught by Jack Catterall for 14.
Chorley were 15 runs away from their target with five wickets in hand when rain washed out four crucial overs and they closed seven runs adrift of victory on 165/6, captain Andy Holdsworth making 44 off 84 balls, Jack Bentham 37 with pro Dhar unbeaten on 32.
Lancaster visited defending champions Leyland fresh from a thrilling home win over Fleetwood but went down to defeat by five wickets in the only game that was not interrupted by rain.

Lancaster's captain Michael Stevens batted throughout his side's innings of 147/5, making an unbeaten 72 off 133 balls with six fours. Brett Pelser bowled superbly to take 3/38 off 16 overs with skipper David Makinson producing a typically miserly spell to concede just 27 runs from 15 overs.
Tim Barry and Ben Simm each took two wickets for the visitors and Leyland were wobbling at 96/5, Luis Reece making a fluent 34 until adjudged leg before to Barry. But pro Pelser (38 not out) steered his side home in partnership with James Rounding (18 not out).

St Annes (65pts) lead Netherfield (61pts) by four points with Leyland and Chorley joint third on 55 and Lancaster fifth on 54pts.
Preston captain Lukman Vahaluwala, who has already captured 20 wickets took his side to Woodhill Lane where Pakistan A all-rounder Anwar Ali has made a fine start as professional with Morecambe. Preston were 106/4 after 31.2 overs when rain stopped play with Mohsin Modhi 25 not out. Anwar Ali and Chris Williams each took two wickets.
After a lengthy delay Morecambe then batted and knocked off the runs for the loss of four wickets in 23.5 overs despite Preston pro Saeed Bariwala taking 3/53 and Vahaluwala 2/48. Ikram Ullah made 30, skipper Mark Woodhead 20 and Phil Dennison 23 with Anwar Ali was unbeaten on 12 at the close.
The Fleetwood- Carnforth game at Broadwater was badly affected by the weather. Carnforth had made 134/5 in 31 overs when the game was interrupted, with Ryan Nelson (68) and captain Adam Hornby (45) adding 112 for the second wicket- their third century partnership of the season- after debutant Dave Robinson fell to a first ball duck, one of pro Ryan Smith's four victims. Further rain arrived after Fleetwood struggled in reply as they closed on 74/5 after 22.1 overs with Gareth Pedder and Adam Cowperthwaite each taking two wickets.

Match Report by Michael Fisher
Preston 2nds 113- 4 v Morecambe 2nds 114 - 5
Winning the toss and asking Preston to bat turned out the most significant factor in the game. Preston started steadily with Hussain and Kit Patel seeing off Morecambe's opening pair without loss. It was the introduction of Quyyum which brought the breakthrough bowling Hussain for 34. He was soon followed by his opening partner Kit Patel run out for 33.
With clouds gathering Preston started to accelerate. Moshin Patel was lbw to Quyyum for 11, Paynter was looking dangerous supported by Modessa they began to build an excellent base from which to accelerate. Graves had Modessa caught for 11 as the rain started to fall. Preston's innings was brought to a premature end 12 overs short by a prolonged break for rain.
The rain ceased long enough for Morecambe to have 32 overs to get the required runs, Maje and Edge both started brightly scoring quickly trying ensure the weather didn't intervene again.Yasin Patel came on to remove Edge for 22, Law carried on the momentum hitting a quick fire 28. Maje was caught for 30 soon followed by Tharlmalingum with Morecambe still needing 25 for victory. In form Pearson was joined by Fisher to all but secure victory, Pearson was out with the scores tied for 21 and it was left for Fisher to hit the winning run off the next ball in just over 23 overs.
Morecambe revival continues with their third successive victory whilst Preston rued their luck with the rain robbing them of any chance of setting a competitive total.
