Alex Atkinson led Netherfield's victory charge

Leaders Netherfield, still awaiting the arrival of South African professional Brady Barends continued their fine start to the season in the Furness Building Society Northern Premier League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls) on a rain-affected afternoon.
Netherfield made short work of Carnforth at Parkside Road despite playing without a professional, a highly unusual occurrence for a club of their standing.
In a game reduced to 30 overs-per-side Carnforth never recovered from being reduced to 1 for 3 by opening bowlers Stuart Nixon and Nathan Chambers. Tom Barnfield made a fighting 35 off 51 balls and Phil Thornton 29 but the visitors were dismissed for 103, Nixon claiming 6/63 and Chambers 4/40.
Carnforth sub-pro Mel Whittle bowled Ben Haddrick for 22 but Cumberland County pair Alex Atkinson (52no off 26 balls including four fours and five sixes) and Marc Brown (32no) sped Netherfield to a nine wickets win despite a short break for further rain.
Champions Leyland defeated Morecambe by eight wickets at Fox Lane, Unicorns all-rounder Luis Reece leading the victory charge with an unbeaten 68 off 91 balls including ten fours and two sixes. Adam Coates made 33 off 33 balls and also kept wicket. Morecambe had reached 154/5 in 37 overs with Chris Williams providing the cornerstone of their innings with an outstanding unbeaten 82 off 104 balls including nine fours. Leyland pro Brett Pelser took 3/37.
Chorley earned their second successive win a low-scoring encounter at Windsor Park despite being dismissed for 109 by Lancaster in a 37-overs game. Tom Burrow claimed 3/18 and Ben Simm and Iain Perrieman two wickets apiece with Michael Critchley's 35 and Ian Oakes' unbeaten 28 providing the cornerstone of the home side's modest total.
Billy Smith then got to work with a fine spell of opening bowling claiming 5/20 off ten overs as Lancaster subsided to 73 all out despite a defiant 38 off 91 balls from opener Zac Godfrey-Plews on debut. Pro Gaurav Dhar and spin twin Iain Critchley each claimed two wickets.
Just 25 overs-per side were possible at Ernest Pass where Barrow claimed a winning draw in an exciting finish against unbeaten Darwen. The home side made 147/5 with openers Rob Lightfoot (38) and pro Pieter Malan (31) posting 71 for the opening stand. Darwen pro Zimmy Khan and Niall Burke each took two wickets.
Darwen fell eight runs short in the runs chase, closing on 140/6. Pro Khan was stumped by Barrow skipper Chris D'Leny off Gary Collins for 43 and Gareth Cordingley struck 37 off 24 balls with two sixes and two fours before being bowled by Daryl Wearing in the final over, Graham Dawson claiming 3/54.
St Annes pro Dinuka Hettiarachchi spun his side to an exciting derby victory at Broadwater over Fleetwood. Hettiarachchi took 5/38 off 15.3 overs as Fleetwood, chasing 106 to win were bowled out for 99. Crucially James Ellis was run out after making 28. Fleetwood pro Ryan Smith earned 6/53 as St Annes reached 105/8 in a game reduced to 32 overs per side.
Preston captain Lukman Vahaluwala produced an outstanding all-round display in his side's winning draw over Blackpool at West Cliff. Vahaluwala made 88 off 105 balls and added 115 for the first wicket with Sajid Patel as Preston reached 200/8 in a game reduced to 40 overs.
Patel smashed three fours and five sixes in making 71 off 86 balls as Blackpool's Steven Mercer claimed 4/55. Blackpool opener Alex Smith continued his fine start to the season and steered his side to safety with an unbeaten 56 off 112 balls as Vahaluwala claimed 5/14 off 12 overs.

Match Report by Michael Fisher
Morecambe 2nds 143-5 (15pts) v Leyland 2nds 126 all out (1pt)
Morecambe returned to winning ways securing maximum points with an exciting win against last season champions Leyland, with rain reducing the game to 35 overs per side Leyland won the toss and asked Morecambe to bat. Progress was steady with the ever accurate Pallet restricting scoring opportunities. Maje keep the score board moving along with a useful 36.With Izzat progressing steadily Morecambe tried to inject Impetus into the innings with First Milner (7) who was well caught by Hurt and Fisher (8). Pearson and Tharlmalingum both perished to Williams. Izzat batting through the innings passed 50 for the second time this season and with Maartens (9 no) added the final push. Izzat finished with a flourish hitting McDonnell for 2 sixes in the final over. Morecambe finished with a respectable 143-5 thanks mainly to Izzats' 70 Not Out.
Leyland started brightly with Dickinson timing the ball sweetly and Royle looking to play a shot a ball. He fell to Alam caught by Milner at slip and with score board rattling along the introduction Milner started to change the balance of the game first bowling McDonnell (11) and then having Dickinson caught for 23. Lamb & Parker soon followed LBW and caught respectively. With Leyland skipper Farrington taking the game by the scruff hitting boundaries at will of Milner. The game really turned on the re-introduction of Alam. Firstly removing Watkinson (9) quickly followed by Cartwright for a duck. When Farrington was trapped LBW for 31 victory was in sight for Morecambe. Youth and experience continued Leyland's push for victory with Hurt threatening to take the game with a couple of lusty blows. When Alam bowled Pallet one wicket was needed for the home side victory. This came of the last ball of 34th over when Hurt was bowled for 17. Milner finished with 4-56 whilst Alam secured his first 5 wicket haul for Morecambe with 6-43. His second spell returned remarkable figures of 5-20 of 6 overs.
