St Annes stretch lead at the top

New Kendal Record for Du Plessis

Delight for Chorley; despair for Fleetwood after a thrilling game

St Annes stretched their lead to 15-points at the top of the Furness Building Society Northern Premier Cricket League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls) after a thrilling last-over win at Vernon Road over Blackpool; Leyland and Netherfield, who began the day joint second meanwhile shared a high-scoring draw at Parkside Road.

St Annes' pro Dinuka Hettiarachchi collected his second seven-wicket haul in successive games, following up his 7/31 against the Colts with 7/60 off 25 overs in Blackpool's 168/8. Opener John Mounsey top-scored with 41 off 99 balls and pro Con De Lange hit 25 before he was bowled by his opposite number. De Lange took 3/48 and Steven Mercer 2/54 as Blackpool fought hard to defend their total but St Annes wicketkeeper Duncan Whalley followed up his three catches with an unbeaten 32 off 73 balls as his side edged home by three wickets with five balls to spare.

Defending champions Leyland had to settle for ten points from a winning draw at Netherfield who took five points from another fine game. Luis Reece hit a magnificent 130 off 135 balls for Leyland, sharing a third wicket stand of 168 in 23.1 overs with pro Brett Pelser whose 95 came off 90 balls including seven fours and three sixes. Reece hit 12 fours and two sixes. Netherfield's sub-pro Ashar Zaidi toiled away to take 2/99 off 20 overs in Leyland's 283/5.

Zaidi, the Accrington pro then hit a magnificent 104 off 77 balls with 13 fours and two sixes with good support from Alex Atkinson (25) and John Huck (34). John Mason, batting no7 then made 53 off only 44 balls as the home side closed on 268/9, Pelser taking 3/67.

St Annes have 113pts, Leyland 98, Netherfield 93 and Chorley 92.

Lancaster pro Dwayne Hees stood tall to hit a magnificent unbeaten 96 in his side's three wickets win over Kendal at Lune Road. Hees shared a second wicket stand of 108 with Captain Michael Stevens who hit 66 off 102 balls with nine fours and one six. Hees faced 133 balls and hit 13 fours and three sixes, steering his side home after a late clutter of wickets as Jack White completed a fine all-round game with 4/50.

Earlier White hit 56 off 58 balls to rescue his side from 76/5, Gareth Ashburner making 35. Kendal reached 188/9 against a depleted Lancaster bowling attack in which Ben Simm toiled away manfully to bowl unchanged and take 5/56 from 25 overs. Stevens and Liam Moffat shared the duties at the other end.

Barrow pro Pieter Malan continued his fine season, hitting an unbeaten 88 off 118 balls with 11 fours in his side's seven wickets win against Preston. Ben Harrison (60 off 128 balls) and pro Saeed Bariwala (63 off 70 balls) had rescued the visitors from 48/3 with a stand of 105 as Daryl Wearing and Gary Collins each took three wickets. Malan received good support from the top order, Guy Heffernan (29), Rob Lightfoot (22), Liam Livingstone (21 off 12 balls) and Iain Kermode (20 not out) all batting well.

Chorley's five-wicket hero Billy Smith bowls to Adam Parker

Chorley edged home by one wicket after an enthralling game against Fleetwood at Windsor Park. Adam Parker hit a superb 69 off 101 balls including 13 fours after his side had been reduced to 63/5. Pro Ryan Smith supplied the fireworks with five fours and four sixes in his 48 off 43 balls, the pair adding 61 in 31 minutes. Billy Smith bowled superbly to take 5/39, including both openers and then Parker and namesake Smith in his second spell. Chorley opening bowler Kieran McCullagh was forced to leave the field after bowling 6.5 overs with a heel injury.
