St Annes opened up a 13-points lead at the top of the Furness Building Society Northern Premier Cricket League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls) after following up successive 12-point wins against Lancaster and Carnforth over the Bank Holiday weekend with another win batting second against Lancashire Colts.

St Annes' pro Dinuka Hettiarachchi was in fine all-round form as his side recorded the earliest victory of the day. Hettiarachchi, the Sri Lankan spin ace took 7/31 including the wicket of Colts captain Oliver Newby as the Colts were dismissed for 100. Only Ross Zelem (22) and Charlie Taylor (24 not out) reached double figures. Despite losing openers Atiq Uz-Zaman and Nathesh Kiruparan cheaply, Atiq to Leyland's Liam Hurt for 15, skipper Andy Kellett made an unbeaten 28 while Hettiarachchi made 36 off 40 balls as St Annes won by six wickets.

St Annes (101pts) lead the way from defending champions Leyland (88pts) and Netherfield (88pts) with Morecambe and Chorley both on 80pts.

Leyland pro Brett Pelser hit 85 off 99 balls with ten fours and three sixes; he added 151 for the third wicket with David Fisher as Leyland reached 214/4 against Carnforth at Fox Lane. Fisher made 84 off 134 balls with six fours and two sixes. Adam Cowperthwaite bowled well to take 3/38 off 13 overs.

Despite being without leading batsman Ryan Nelson and captain Adam Hornby Carnforth made a good fight of it; opener Dickon Morris, a former Gloucestershire Second XI and Oxfordshire Minor County player making 89 off 133 balls with seven fours and one six. When opener Morris was seventh man out Carnforth showed impressive resolution and Warren Quinn and Rob Horsfall hit 15 off the last over to secure maximum batting points as they closed 181/8. Leg-spinner Tayyab Afsar took 4/61 for Leyland and Pelser 3/44.

Richard Gleeson held his nerve in a tense finish to steer Blackpool to victory by three wickets over Netherfield at Stanley Park. Gleeson hit an unbeaten 34 as Blackpool, wobbling at 104/6 defied a fine bowling display by Netherfield sub-pro Ashar Zaidi. The Accrington pro was adjudged leg before to Steven Mercer for 27 in his side's 141 and then bowled unchanged and took 6/47 on a dry batting pitch.

Mercer had destroyed Netherfield's vaunted batting line-up with a superb spell of 6/41 backed by pro Con De Lange's economical spell of 1/39 off 17 overs and Gleeson's 2/36. Rob Sissons made two fine stumpings. De Lange hit 36 in Blackpool's reply on a hot day at the coast but Zaidi looked to be turning the screw until Gleeson displayed his growing batting prowess.

Chorley's Iain Critchley produced a fine all-round display to earn his side maximum points from their trip to West Cliff. Critchley, batting no7 made an unbeaten 45 off 92 balls to steer his side to 135 after they had been 38/5. Will Moulton made 40 off 71 balls. Preston skipper Lukman Vahaluwala continued his fine season with a spell of 6/36.

Spin-twins Critchley and pro Gaurav Dhar then combined to bowl out the home side for 118; slow left-armer Critchley taking 4/21 and leg-spinner Dhar 4/20 after Moulton had claimed the prize wicket of opener Vahaluwala, bowled for 26.

Morecambe pro Anwar Ali bowled his side to victory at Fleetwood, taking 5/36 off 13 overs as the home side were dismissed for 103. Earlier opener Josh Dixon made 56 off 111 balls and wicketkeeper Lewis Edge made a superb 66 off 64 balls batting at number 8. Morecambe recovered from 57/6 to reach 184, Dixon and Edge adding 96 for the seventh wicket. Joe Bell took 4/35 for Fleetwood

It was Ladies' Day at Birch Hall as Darwen, celebrating their Centenary season staged a highly successful fund-raising event in aid of cancer charities. Visitors Lancaster reached 177/6 with openers Michael Stevens and Zac Godfrey-Plews posting 73 for the first wicket and Lee Sparks hitting an unbeaten 41 off 33 balls with Kamran Anwar running out pro Dwayne Hees for 11.

Darwen's Alex Davies hit 55 off 82 balls to help his side recover from the early loss of opener Niall Burke and pro Zimmy Khan to Iain Perrieman. Skipper John Cordingley hit an unbeaten 31 and steered his side home in partnership with elder brother Gareth who was 15 not out at the close after middle brother Neil had made 25 alongside Chris Clarke's 25. Stevens claimed 2/13 as he continued his fine all-round form.

Barrow recovered from the wreckage of 12/5 to reach 206/8 at Shap Road, Liam Livingstone making 66 off 95 balls, Iain Kermode 73 off 117 balls and Graham Dawson an unbeaten 43 off 29 balls in a remarkable recovery. Jack White had claimed three early wickets, including that of Barrow pro Pieter Malan and finished with 4/38. Livingstone and Kermode turned around Barrow's fortunes with a stand of 114.

Jon Miles hit 87 off 111 balls against his former club and opened with a stand of 106 with Gareth Ashburner (28). Match Report by Michael Fisher

Morecambe 2nds 114-6 v Fleetwood 2nds 112

Fleetwood chose to bat first, a choice skipper Clarke may regret as Fleetwood were comprehensively beaten by the home team. He was the first victim of Usman Alam, This saw Wilson (13) join Coultas (23) and game seemed to change instantly with both batsmen taking the attack to the home bowlers, the score board rattled round until Fleetwood hit the self-destruct button.

Alam was the beneficiary picking up 3 further wickets in quick succession. The returning Cupit then joined the act taking three quick fire wickets. Tom Clarke (24) launched some lusty blows to get the visitors towards the three figure mark; Gregson batting at eleven finished 12no as Fleetwood were bowled out for 112 in just 29 overs.

Usman Alam returned his second 6 wicket haul of season finishing with 6-37, while Cupit ended up with 3-56 figures which didn't really do him justice as a large number of runs had come from the edge.

Morecambe started brightly as stand in skipper James Law punished anything loose from the Fleetwood bowlers. Maje struggling with injury struggled his way to 9 before coming Neil Gregsons first victim with Tom Clarke taking a fine diving catch. Izzat smashed two fours then perished to Tom Clarke. Law soon followed for an attractive 32. It was left to Cupit to guide the home team to victory supported firstly by Cockburn and then Ahmed. Cupit enjoying a rare opportunity to bat finished 34 not out as Morecambe sealed a comfortable 6 wicket victory and 12 points.
