3D SPORTS NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE

FLEETWOOD AND KENDAL THE ONLY WINNERS

Gerry Wolstenholme

Four of the six First Division games in the 3D Northern Premier League were drawn on Bank Holiday Monday with Kendal and Fleetwood being the only winners, points were shared in all the other games.

Kendal made only 145 in their local derby with Netherfield but found it was enough to win the game as they bowled the home side out for 122 to achieve victory by 23 runs. Terry Hunte top scored for Kendal with 53 and Phil Thornton made a useful 35 as Kendal were dismissed in 33.5 overs with Marc Hadwin taking 6-23 including a hat-trick. Charl Langeveldt assisted with 3-55. When Netherfield replied, Kevin Howarth took 3-29, Chris Miller 2-26 and Graeme Aldridge 2-32 while only the first four Netherfield batsmen reached double figures, Craig Walmsley, 11, Chris Parry a top score of 33, Ryan brown, 11, and Mark Daly, 21.

And the other winners came at Stanley Park where Blackpool batted first and in a rain affected innings of 46 overs made 161-6 to which Justin Kreusch contributed 55 and Tom Reece 37 while Tom Blundell took 3-45 and Kyle Smit 2-56. In reply Michael Clinning, missed early in his innings, made 48 before losing middle order wickets but then skipper Wayne Clarke and Chris Stanhope turned the game with a steady partnership for the seventh wicket. Stanhope made 40 and was out just before victory was achieved while Clarke finished on an excellent and responsible 31 not out as Fleetwood achieved their target at 162-7. Kreusch had a good all-round game with 4-34.

There were 493 runs at the Ernest Pass Memorial Ground but the game ended in a draw. Carnforth made 264-7 with Ryan Nelson making 73, Atiq Uz Zaman 44, Darren Moore 37 and Lyndell Richardson 32. Pasan Wanasinghe was the most successful Barrow bowler with 3-44 and he then made 98 in Barrow's reply of 229-7. Iain Kermode made 37, Jonathan Miles made 34 and Chris D'Leny 25 as Irfan Fazil took 5-107 in 22 overs.

Winless St Annes continued their dismal run as rain spoiled their game with Preston, who batted first and got off to a flying start that led to a total of 251 in 46 overs. Sajid Patel, promoted to open the innings, made a fine 86, Lukman Vahaluwala made 61 not out and Bilal Asad 39 as St Annes' stand-in professional for the injured Shane Harwood, Mahendra Nagamootoo took 7-74 with his leg-spin. Stephen Twist was the mainstay of the St Annes innings as he hit an undefeated 77 with only Adrian Darlington, 21, and John Musgrave, 19, giving him much support as Rhys Williams took 4-50. St Annes had reached 136-5 in 35 overs when the game ended.

Morecambe scored 228-4 in their game against Lancaster, who replied with 162-7. There were three half-centuries for Morecambe, Werner Coetsee 59, Vishnal Goyol 58 and Mark Lomas 52 not out with Gareth Peddar chipping in with 32 not out as Iain Burstow took 3-65. It was the veterans who starred for Lancaster as Tim Barry made 50 not out and David Heywood 41 as the wickets were shared between Peddar, 3-41, Coetsee, 2-25, and Jono Gates, 2-50.

Finally rain ruined the Darwen versus Chorley game at Birch Hall after Darwen had made 183-5 thanks to Keith Semple's 85 not out, 25 from Gareth Cordingley and 24 from Chris Lowe and 2-61 from Chorley's Stephen John. Craig Millward made 22 and Ian Mawdesley 22 not out in Chorley's reply of 59-3 that was cut short by rain.

Congratulations to Andy Armstrong of Blackpool in Division Two as he undoubtedly achieved the bowling performance of the day as he took the tremendous figures of 10-44 against Fleetwood, he joins a small number of players to achieve the feat of taking all ten wickets in an innings. Andy was solely responsible for bowling Fleetwood out for 134 and Robin Bracewell's 62 not out and Alex Smith's 59 not out in Blackpool's victory march to 137-1 played second fiddle to a remarkable bowling performance.

I apologise for the lack of a match action report but I am as yet not well enough to attend a game, still recovering from my hospitalisation.

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone who has sent me their good wishes, they did me a power of good and without them I doubt whether I would have survived!

Thanks again from the bottom of my heart, or whatever is left of it!!!! I hope to see you all soon in the not too distant future.
