3D SPORTS NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE

IT'S THE AMEER KHAN AND DAN CHRISTIAN SHOWS

Gerry Wolstenholme

The by now almost obligatory change of leadership in the 3D Sports Northern Cricket League First Division saw Netherfield replace Kendal at the top while St Annes, with a third successive victory, made a move into the top four.

Netherfield batted first against Morecambe and piled up 268-6 declared after 45.5 overs with substitute professional Dan Christian making a sparkling 111, and there was assistance from Ryan Brown 59, Simon Little 27, Ben Haddrick 27 and Mark Daley 26. The best of the Morecambe bowlers were Tommy Clough with 2-47 and Jono Gates with 2-61. Morecambe lasted only 34.4 overs as Netherfield dismissed them for 145 with none of the top order making double figures. Damien Gudgeon came to the rescue with 41, and down the order Stuart Errington made 13, Graham Cassidy and Gareth Peddar both made 16 with Jono Gates making 28 not out coming in at number 11. Ryan Wilson took 2-42 and Mark Daley 2-58 but it was Christian with 5-36 who destroyed the Morecambe early order.

Preston made 209-9 against Chorley with Bilal Asad making 98, Lukman Vahaluwala 47 and Yasin Patel 20 while Stephen John took 4-49 and Billy Smith 4-74 for Chorley who replied with only 88 to lose by 121 runs. Ian Mawdesley made 13, Jack Bentham 26 at number nine and Will Moulton 13 while Vahaluwala took 6-18 from 12 overs and Rhys Williams had 2-35.

Carnforth were all out in 28 overs for 107 with the best efforts coming from Adam Hornby 22, Robert Parker 22 and Atiq uz Zaman 16 as the wickets were shared by Tim Barry with 4-49, Luke Stockhill with 4-30 and Danny Milligan with 2-24. Lancaster comfortably posted 108-4, Montcin Hodge top scoring with 39 not out as Jamie Heywood made 20 and Adam Cowperthwaite took 2-31 for Morecambe.

Barrow were put in to bat at Stanley Park and made 214-6, Pasan Wanasinghe 83 was the top scorer and Jonathan Miles made 77 and Ian Allington 24 as Justin Kreusch took 3-47 in 14 overs and Luis Reece 2-24. Blackpool replied with 51 from Luis Reece, 18 from Adam Parker and a superb 108 from Kreusch but when he was out Blackpool lost their way and ended up with a draw at 205-8. Justin Quint, who took the crucial wicket of Kreusch, one ball after having him caught and bowled from a no-ball, took 6-52 for Barrow.

At Shap Road Kendal almost reached 100 for the loss of only two wickets with Ikram Ullah making 51 and Kevin Howarth 29 but then only Phil Thornton with 35 not out reached double figures of the rest, as the home side were dismissed for 136 in 49.2 overs. David Makinson took 2-24 but it was the Ameer Khan show once again as he took 8-54 from 17.2 overs. Khan then had a short rest until he came in at number three after the loss of an early wicket and made 72 not out and he was assisted by Peter Cummings 34 not out and Karl Cross, who made 21. Graeme Aldridge took 2-67 as Leyland coasted home by six wickets at 139-4 made in just 30 overs.

St Annes batted first at Broadwater and made a modest 164 with openers Adrian Darlington, 25, and Gareth Evans, 37, giving them a good start, which was carried on by Shane Harwood, 27. But it was Adam Cotton firing 46 that helped his side to their eventual total as Kyle Smit took 6-69, Steve Whiteside 2-42 and Adam Breakell 1-30. Fleetwood lost four early wickets before Wayne Clarke, 21, helped James Ellis to steady the innings but once they were separated, Harwood returned and the innings closed at 126, which meant defeat by 38 runs. Ellis finished with an excellent 46 not out and he was helped by 14 from John Wright as Harwood had six clean bowled, one leg before wicket and one caught at slip in his 8-27.
