Match Day 20th May 2006

NETHERFIELD STEAL A MARCH ON RIVALS

By Gerry Wolstenholme

Rain decimated the Surridge Northern Premier League programme on Saturday when only one First Division game was completed and only two got underway in the Second Division.

It was at Parkside Road that the one game finished and the win for Netherfield gave them a decided advantage over all their rivals as they earned 12 points to the four points of those not playing.

Leyland Motors batted first and were bowled out for 113 with four wickets each for skipper Scott Clement and Peter Lawson, for 26 runs and 49 runs respectively. Tommy Prime was then Netherfield's top scorer with 46 out of the winning total 114-3.

In the Second Division two games were played with Morecambe defeating Carnforth and Leyland Motors and Netherfield playing out a draw. James Vipond was the chief wicket-taker with 6-25 as Morecambe dismissed Carnforth for 77. Morecambe then made short work of the target and won by nine wickets with 79-1.

It was a 27-over game at Sandy Lane where Netherfield very nearly pulled off a dramatic victory. Having made 151-5 with Jared Winder making a top score of 41 and veteran Sifton Prince taking 4-35, they very nearly clinched a win by having Motors at 91-9 when time ran out.
