Leaders Morecambe came a cropper at the hands of one of the chasing pack as Netherfield defeated them by 137 runs at Woodhill Lane on Saturday.
Netherfield batted first and scored 214-6 from their 50 overs with Chris Parry making a top score of 54, Simon Little making 38 and Grahame Clarke making 36 not out. When Morecambe replied only professional Garnet Kruger, 23, reached double figures as the next best effort was eight, made by Messrs Peddar, Lomas and Dennison. Marc Hadwin had 4-5 and Peter Lawson 3-36 as Morecambe were hustled out for just 77.
Morecambe still retain top place because second-placed Darwen could not force victory against Leyland Motors. Atif Ashraf led Darwen's batting with 78, Gareth Cordingley made 42 and Chris Clarke made the next best with 16 in their total of 197-8. But they were then unable to bowl out Motors who finished with a draw at 151-8 to which Ameer Khan, having taken 4-46 when Darwen batted, made 62, Peter Cummings 28 and Karl Cross 26.
St Annes moved into third place with a convincing win over Fleetwood who batted badly to be bowled out for just 91 with Michael Clinning making 23 and Wayne Clarke 22 as new St Annes' professional Arshad Khan took 3-21, Michael Baer 3-7 and Joe Davies 2-26. St Annes then made short work of their target, winning by eight wickets at 93-2 inside 21 overs. Ian Austin's 50 not out was the backbone of the innings.
Blackpool pulled off victory at the Ernest Pass Memorial Ground where Barrow were at one time cruising at 112-2 but then skipper Paul Danson took a hand with his off-spin and skittled out seven of the last eight Barrow batsmen so the home side were all out for 143. Danson finished with a Northern League career-best 7-28 as only Stuart Knox, whose watching dad Bobby Knox has a place in football history as the first substitute to score a goal in League football, for Barrow in days gone by, with 45 and Tod Bamber with 43 made any impression. Only Ahmed Alma with 13 of the rest reached double figures. Blackpool then made 145-3 to complete the seven-wicket victory as Charles Boucher made 52, Justin Kreusch 49 not out and Luis Reece 28 not out.
Kendal took a bold step at Fox Road and declared their innings closed at 190-0 from 37 overs as Ikram Ullah, 107 not out, and Kevin Howarth, 70 not out, put the Leyland attack to the sword. The move paid dividends for Leyland were then bowled out for 121 to lose by 69 runs as only Zubar Patel with 27 got past 20 as Kabir Khan had 3-15 and there were two wickets each for Chris Miller, Ben Simm and Dilawar Khan.
Carnforth showed once again that they are one of the best scoring sides with a magnificent 263-4 to which the impressive Lyndell Richardson contributed 93, Omari Banks 75 and Atiq Uz-Zaman 39 not out. Tim Barry took all four wickets to fall for 104 runs in a 21-over spell. But Lancaster were not bowed for they made 171-8 to earn a draw with Jannisar Khan making 79 not out.
Finally Preston and Chorley played out a draw at West Cliff where the home side made 251-4 before declaring to which Chorley replied with 193-7. Bilal Asad led the Preston innings with 83, Munaf Bavla made 66, Lukman Vahaluwala 41 and the impressive young 'Pip' McDonald 36 not out as Gaurav Dhar took two wickets. Skipper Michael Critchley led the Chorley reply with 42 and there was 33 for Mark Richardson, 32 for John Ratledge, 29 for Jack Catterall and 20 from Ian Mawdesley.

In the Second Division Blackpool's Chris Taylor made the club's second highest individual total in their high-scoring game against Barrow. His 139 not out was second only to Arthur Mott's 158 not out in 1959 and came as Blackpool successfully chased Barrow's 244-9 declared to which Guy Reynolds just missed out on a century with 99. Blackpool's 245-5 gave them a five-wicket victory as Lee Cosgrove, 42, and Mark Griffiths, 40, supported Reynolds and Taylor respectively.
The day's bowling honours went to Preston's Yasin Patel whose 6-19 helped his side to a 16-run victory over Chorley who were 111 all out in reply to 127.
Lancaster's Danny Milligan ran Patel a close second as he took 6-29 as Carnforth were bowled out for 130 to which Lancaster replied with 134-2 for an eight-wicket win.

MATCH ACTION
A ONE-SIDED CONTEST
Fleetwood 91, St Annes 93-2
By Gerry Wolstenholme
The local derby between St Annes and Fleetwood at Vernon Road on Saturday was very much a one-sided contest as St Annes controlled the game almost from the first ball. They won the toss, put Fleetwood in to bat, bowled them out for a meagre 91 and scored 93-2 in just 20.4 overs to have the game wrapped up by 5.12 pm.
James Ellis, seven, and Zac Taylor, 12, put on 18 for the first wicket before the former chopped a ball from Joe Davies onto his stumps. And it was Davies who also dismissed Taylor when he had him caught low down at point by Stephen Twist and that was 33-2.
Michael Clinning, who had played a beautiful square drive for four from his first ball, made a top score of 23 for Fleetwood and while he was at the crease there was always a chance they could make a decent total if someone could stay with him. Professional Paul Harris, five, was unable to do so as he played away from his body to edge Ian Austin to new St Annes' professional Arshad Khan at second slip and that was 42-3.
Wayne Clarke, missed behind the stumps before he had scored, provided the only other substance of the Fleetwood innings and he and Clinning took the total to 60 before the latter drove the mercurial Khan to Davies at short extra cover. Clarke, 22, was then the first of three wickets to fall while the total remained on 75.
Khan had him leg before wicket and then bowled Nick Coultas first ball. Adam Sharrocks was then stumped by Duncan Whalley off Michael Baer for three and Fleetwood were in big trouble at 75-7.
Baer bowled Steve Hill for nought at 77-8 and caught and bowled Tom Wilson for two off a leading edge at 78-9. Tom Blundell, three, and stand-in captain Dave Fish, 11 not out with two boundaries, edged the total to 91 before a direct throw from Russ Bradley ran out Blundell and the innings closed nine short of 100. Khan had taken 3-21, Baer, not introduced until the 31st over, 3-7 from 6.2 overs, Davies 2-26 and Austin 1-21.
St Annes set off in reply as though they intended to get the game over very quickly as Adrian Darlington, 23, and Gareth Evans, 18, attacked from the start. Darlington then stood in almost disbelief when he cut Hill to square leg where Taylor held onto a fine catch and that was 37-1.
Ian Austin came to the crease and he also attacked from the start, quickly overhauling Evans, who was dismissed when the total had reached 74 as he pushed forward to Taylor to present Ellis with a straightforward edge. But that was Fleetwood's last success as Austin finished the game with a pair of sixes off Taylor in the 21st over. He finished with an excellent 50 not out made from only 47 balls with four sixes and four fours while Whalley was two not out as St Annes retired with 93-2 to their name and an eight-wicket victory.
James Ellis of Fleetwood lets the ball go from Joe Davies.
