Perera and Mounsey lead the way for Blackpool



Nimesh Perera scored a rapid 39 for Blackpool

Blackpool and Kendal enjoyed victories on the opening night of action in the Latham Baxendale Twenty20 Cup. Paul Danson's side earned a 28 runs win over Fleetwood at Broadwater while Ross McMillan's men got home by the slenderest of margins on run rate at Barrow after rain intervened late in the game.



Fleetwood's Matt Clark makes a fine catch to dismiss Perera

After winning the toss and electing to bat Blackpool made a lightning start as pro Nimesh Perera and John Mounsey plundered 69 off 53 balls before Perera was superbly caught by Matt Clark off Sam Bell for 39 (24 balls, 6 fours and one six).

Mounsey struck the ball well to make 38 off 43 balls but Fleetwood fought back well in the field as captain and pro Matt Frith (1 for 16), Mike Clinning (1 for 16) and Sam Bell (2 for 23) bowled well.
Blackpool reached 141 for 6 in their 20 overs, Andy Furniss's contributing a hard-hit 28. Ryan Smith took two wickets in two balls but saw his hat-trick ball despatched for six over extra cover by Danson and finished with two for 51



Blackpool's John Mounsey and Michael Moore compare notes

Frith led Fleetwood's reply with a fluent 35 off 27 balls before he was brilliantly stumped by Ben Heath off Andy Hogarth.
The home side struggled to dominate an accurate Blackpool attack in which Hograth (2 for 16) and Steve Mercer (1 for 19) particularly impressed and the closed on 113 for 4.
